There are many digital video cameras on the modern technology market, among which IP models stand out, showing good, high-quality pictures and videos.

The devices have a number of positive qualities:

  • excellent data quality;
  • the ability to control the video camera remotely and adjust its position;
  • automatic software update;
  • simultaneous transmission of signal data from audio and video.

Why do we need digital video cameras?

IP cameras are necessary for video surveillance. This smart device comes with its own software. You don't need a computer to operate it. The equipment records:

  • to an external computer hard drive, DVR connected to the router;
  • to the cloud on the Internet;
  • to a memory card connected to the camcorder.

Also through the device you can watch video clips in real time over a network connection and via the Internet. Ease of use and the capabilities provided allow you to use the equipment for surveillance in an office, apartment, or warehouse. If the device is intended for video recording to a recorder or a computer that performs its functions, no auxiliary equipment is required to start it.

If you need to gain remote access to the video camera for viewing via the Internet, you will need to connect it to a router. The best option to organize monitoring of a remote object is to set up a Camera-Router-Internet connection.

Connecting and setting up a digital camera

You can connect digital equipment using two different technological installations - wired and wireless. Each installation has its own advantages and disadvantages. A wireless connection can work in hard-to-reach and remote places where a cable cannot be pulled. The only drawback of this method is the possible failures that arise due to the presence of nearby devices that can create interference and distort information flowing to the central server.

Wired installation ensures high-resolution images without interruption. This is achieved thanks to a rigid connection. The choice depends on the specific model, port, interface to which it would be reasonable to connect the system. The user's wishes are also taken into account. First he must decide how the device will be connected, then he needs to purchase additional equipment.

Attention! It is recommended to connect the IP camera via wire, as wired devices have advantages in signal quality. Wireless systems are connected if there are difficulties in laying the network cable (twisted pair).

Direct installation can be carried out in one of the following ways; a person chooses the scheme himself:

  • using an Internet browser;
  • using a special utility, which is offered in the same set with the surveillance system, it is quickly recognized by the interface;
  • through the cloud, which is supported by manufacturers.

Diagram of connecting an IP camera to a router

As you can see in the diagram, all devices are connected to the router via a category 5 network cable (twisted pair) with an rj45 connector.

The whole complexity of setting up an IP camera comes down to at least two things:

  1. determining the camera's IP address;
  2. changing the IP address of all devices with a network interface so that they are on the same network.

Example: Since in the diagram above we are using three devices. Connection: camera, router, computer, then the ip-address looks like:

  1. Router - 192.168.0.254 mask: 255.255.255.0;
  2. PC - 192.168.0.99 mask: 255.255.255.0;
  3. IP camera - 192.168.0.100 mask: 255.255.255.0.

If everything is connected correctly, the green light on the case will light up and the IP camera will make some movements. They wait for the device to stop and begin to configure the parameters:

  • include hardware on which Windows is installed;
  • click on “start” and click on “all programs”;
  • go to the “standard” section, click on “run”, this can also be done by pressing the Win + R keys;
  • A line will appear in which you will need to enter “cmd” and confirm your action by clicking on the OK button;
  • a window will pop up, in it you need to type “ipconfig” and click on the Enter key;
  • the user will be presented with information regarding network settings;
  • find the “local network connection” or “Ethernet adapter Local area” section;
  • the IPv4 address line indicates the path that needs to be written down or remembered, it looks like 192.168.0.100;
  • you will also need an IP subnet mask, you can make it simpler - do not close the window in order to copy all the data from it later;
  • insert the disc that came with the camera into the drive; this is necessary to install the software;
  • if there was no disk, download it yourself from the official developer page;
  • double-click on the program to be able to control the video system;
  • go to settings or look for it in the interface, indicating in the subnet address search field the data that you learned earlier;
  • the mask must be entered unchanged 255.255.255.0;
  • the address is formed based on information from the computer, if the IP is considered 192.168.0.100, then the first three digits are left unchanged, the final ones are indicated arbitrarily from 1 to 126, with the exception of the values recorded by the devices;
  • save all changed options;
  • if the IP camera asks for a login and password, then admin\admin is automatically set or can be found in the instructions;
  • then you need to reboot the device, click on the “open” button next to the Inner access field;
  • the video device will try to open through one search engine, but it is recommended to use Internet Explorer - the creators installed it by default;
  • click on the settings icon and go to Wi-Fi settings;
  • view active networks, click on theirs and enter the access code;
  • if the system is not detected, type its name manually;
  • then go to the network settings item and again check whether the IP and mask are the same as those that were entered previously;
  • confirm all changes, restart the computer and device;
  • when the computer turns on, turn on the browser and type the camera address in the address line in the form 192.168.0.100:81, where the last two digits are the port;
  • If everything went well, a picture will appear on the equipment.

Attention! If you have several IP cameras, it is better to use a different connection scheme with the recorder.

Video recording from CCTV cameras will go to the hard drive of the NVR.

Settings via the utility

IP Utility

You will need to download the IP Utility program, install and open it. Now let's start setting up the IP cameras. For users, all actions and tips are presented in Russian. Algorithm:

  1. In the list of devices, find the one that is currently being configured.
  2. Clicking on the desired name will launch the browser installed on the equipment by default.
  3. Log in to your IP by entering your username and password. If you need already supplied data, then look at the instructions.
  4. Click on “basic settings”, then TCP/IP. The remaining options - sending a recording command when moving at the location of the video surveillance system, frame rate, picture resolution - all functions are set to maximum values.
  5. Then enter the IP address of the DVR, computer or laptop and the IP camera.
  6. Save the data by clicking on the OK button.
  7. The video device will reboot with the new address.
  8. When turned on, the user enters a new login, password and the newly added IP address.
  9. The video is now available.

If any combination was specified incorrectly, you will have to repeat the settings procedure, so you need to write down your login and access code.

The Axis IP Utility program helps you manage only one list of camera addresses. You can add a new IP, change an existing one, or remove it.

The functionality of the application is limited. The main settings of the video surveillance system are made through an Internet browser. After the device is configured, the utility can be deleted; it only helps with configuration, but does not completely change the IP addresses, since each video camera has its own standard interface.

All digital equipment - video cameras, routers, players, recorders - are slowly beginning to be equipped with browser-based technological settings.

After checking the camera for its functioning, you can connect to the selected external device. The video will be automatically recorded on a laptop, computer or recorder.

The material describes in detail how to connect a digital video camera to a computer or laptop, and also indicates what settings need to be entered so that it works on a local network and is accessible via an Internet connection. Some details on equipment from different developers may be slightly different, but the principle of installing a video device is always the same.

At first glance, connecting equipment looks complicated, but there is nothing to be afraid of. The main thing is to avoid mistakes related to the correct entry of addresses and ports. Here it is recommended to be extremely careful and rewrite all combinations, as well as double-check the data already entered. This way the user will avoid having to re-install if a failure occurs.

How to check if the camera is working

After all the settings, you need to find out if everything is functioning well. Sequence of actions: open a search engine, type the camera’s IP address and its port in the top line in the following format: “http://camera IP address:port”.

Example. http://192.168.0.12:81

If the actions are carried out correctly, the video surveillance system will show and when entering different ports in the top line, the user will see an image broadcast from the device.

IP camera is a digital video camera that transmits video images in a digital stream over a network. Such a device is not just a device connected to a receiver or transmitter, but a full-fledged participant in the network. The camera can be connected via wire or WI-FI, depending on the model. The connection and configuration procedure is easy to carry out independently. The main thing is to know how to do it correctly.

Difference from webcam

A webcam and an IP device are different devices, contrary to what some users think. The webcam mechanism allows you to communicate with other people through Skype or other similar programs. The IP device is designed for video surveillance and displaying images in a digital stream.

The IP camera has its own address through which it connects to the network.

Types of devices

There are several types of IP cameras:

  • rotary;
  • cylindrical;
  • dome;
  • square;
  • case.

Of the non-rotating devices, the most popular are dome and case devices.

Depending on the place of use, the following devices are distinguished:

  • street;
  • for indoor use.

Various types of devices are used for video surveillance. The main thing is to install and configure the camera correctly.

Watch the video that describes the models of the best PTZ IP cameras for the home:

Where to install?

Correct installation of the IP camera is a guarantee of normal operation. Since the device runs on WI-FI, it is important that it is located close to the router. If you place the device too far away, there will be problems with image transmission and other failures will occur regularly.

Connection and setup

The device is connected to the computer and a video surveillance camera is set up. The installation process goes like this:

  • fix the antenna;
  • the device is connected to the network;
  • The provider's network cable connects the device and the computer.

After this, the IP camera is configured:

  • log in to the “Network Control Center” section;
  • go to the sub-item “Local Area Network Connection”;
  • select the “Properties” tab;
  • open “Protocol version 4”;
  • enter the IP address indicated on the device body into the appropriate window;
  • log into the browser;
  • enter the address of the CCTV camera into the search bar;
  • enter the device settings file;
  • Enter the login and password in the windows, which are indicated on the box of the device.

If only one device needs to be connected to the Internet, the procedure will be completed. If there are several cameras, then proceed as follows:

  • Change the IP address. To do this, place an icon opposite the inscription “Fixed IP” and enter the data. To perform the manipulation, you will need the router address. The same address is set for the camera, but the last digit is changed.

  • Opposite the “Port Number” inscription, enter or select the numbers 8181. If there is no such setting, set the WEB port value to 80 and save.

  • The cable is disconnected from the computer and inserted into the LAN port located on the router. After this, enter the local network connection settings on the computer. Clear all parameters, and then check the box next to automatically obtaining IP and DNS.
  • Return the patch cord back to the network card. Go to the new device address and enter your login and password in the appropriate fields. After this, go to the “Wireless” sub-item. Enter all Wi-Fi network data. The settings are saved and the device is rebooted.

  • The camera is turned off, another device is connected, and the procedure is repeated. The address for the camera is set to the same as for the previous device, but the last digit is changed, and the numbers 8282 are entered in the port window. The manipulation is carried out for all available devices, changing only the specified data.

The camera can be connected to a smartphone withAndroid andiOS. Details in the video:

Setting up on the router

If we talk about how to connect an IP camera to a router, then do it as follows. Connect the router to the camera. To do this, either use the appropriate wire or connect using Wi-Fi.

They do port forwarding so that the router shows the desired camera when accessing the local network address from an external one. To do this, go to the “Port Forwarding” section or any other similar one. Before this, an icon is placed opposite the inscription “Virtual Server”.

Then fill in the following fields:

  • service name – give any name;
  • port range – assign the value indicated above (for the first camera it is 8181, for the second 8282, etc.);
  • the corresponding IP address of the camera;
  • local port that was specified during device setup;
  • TCP protocol and corresponding number.

The same manipulation is performed for all devices, changing the data. After this, proceed as follows. In the search bar of the browser, enter the following data: “http://static_external_address_provider:8181”.

If the IP address is dynamic white, then the procedure is performed through the DynDNS service. To do this, proceed as follows:

  • enter the router settings;
  • go to the “WAN” sub-item;
  • select the “DDNS” tab;
  • check the box next to “Yes” in the “Enable DDNS” column, set the appropriate parameters and save them.

Connecting the camera via the router is complete.

Configuration via utilities

Another way to set up an IP camera is through a proprietary utility. To do this, use the disk that was included with the device. The first thing they do is connect all the CCTV cameras to the network via a router. Further actions depend on the brand of the device.

Setting up the camera through utilities will be discussed using a model from TRENDnet. The disk of such a device is equipped with two programs.

IPSetup

With its help you can change the factory settings. The program is installed on the PC, after which a window appears on the screen showing all the cameras that are connected to the device. Their name and address are indicated.

After the window appears, perform the following manipulations:

  • click the cursor on the name of the camera;
  • the device is given its name and authorized;
  • set new IP addresses according to the range used on the local network.

After this, you can set a new IP address of the device in the browser search window and configure the device accordingly:

  • in the “Network” menu, configure the main parameters;

  • the “Event Config” section allows you to configure the motion detector and control it;
  • the “Event Setting” menu allows you to configure E-mail or FTP, where recording data from a video surveillance camera is received;
  • The “Schedule Profile” section allows you to set a device operation schedule so that the device operates at a specified time or around the clock.

SecurView

Using such a program, you can add all the images that are shown in the “Live View” menu in the web interface to one control panel, where one image from each device is displayed.

To do this, perform the following manipulations:

  • install the program and launch the application;
  • enter the “Settings” menu;
  • in the “Camera List” item select one of the devices;
  • click on the “Add Camera” button;
  • Enter the device login and password in the appropriate fields.

This manipulation is performed for all cameras. This will allow you to receive images from all devices simultaneously.

Setting up a P2P device

You can choose an alternative P2P camera, where P2P is a peer-to-peer communication protocol. Advantages:

  • multifunctionality;
  • high fault tolerance;
  • ease of installation and ease of configuration;
  • no binding to a static address;
  • the ability to use various devices for video playback;
  • no dependence on distance.

To configure the device, perform the following manipulations:

  • download and install software that is compatible with the OS of the computer or other device on which viewing will be performed;
  • the camera is fixed and turned on;
  • the device is connected to the Internet using a wire or Wi-FI;
  • run the program on the computer and enter the device ID code in the search window;
  • Enter the camera password in the appropriate fields.

Knowing how to set up an IP camera, you can independently perform all the relevant manipulations and carry out video surveillance of the object of interest. The main thing is to follow the instructions given above.

We hope that you will not have any problems during the installation and configuration of CCTV cameras. If you have any questions, write to us, we will try to answer as soon as possible. Thanks to all!

On the day of Black Friday sales, November 25, 2011, among other things, I bought two IP video cameras for $25. Now such a camera costs about $45.

The camera allows you to view and record video with a resolution of 640x480 pixels, it can rotate up and down and in a circle almost 180 degrees. There is switchable infrared illumination, sound transmission and a built-in speaker.

The camera connects to the local network and is powered by 5 volts from the included adapter.

The adapter plug is Chinese, so you will need an adapter.

Video viewing and camera control occurs via the web interface, and there are three options:

1. Mobile interface. The simplest and most convenient to view.

In this interface, you can move the camera, set the camera in one of five pre-configured positions (presets), and allow or disable the backlight to turn on when the light level decreases.

2. Advanced interface. Allows you to configure camera settings.

3. ActiveX interface (works only in Internet Explorer).

In addition to all of the above, it allows you to record video from the camera with sound, as well as transmit sound to the camera (it becomes another sound card in the system).

Camera system parameters are configured in a separate screen.

By default, the camera has the address 192.168.1.99:99. It is pre-registered on the 88safe.com DDNS service. There is a sticker with the DDNS name and password on the bottom of the camera. Moreover, the camera can work with several DDNS services, including dyndns.com. This allows you to access the camera via the Internet.

The Internet connection must have a real IP address, and if it is also static, DDNS will not be needed. In order to see the camera behind the router from the Internet, you need to configure port forwarding on the router. For example, you can specify that port 8009 is forwarded to the address 192.168.1.99 and port 99. In this case, to access the camera via the Internet, you will need to go to the router address indicating port 8009 if the address is static or to the address given by the DDNS server and port 8009 , if the address is dynamic.

In addition to viewing through a browser, the camera can send frames by e-mail or ftp based on the movement of the object. In addition, the camera can send frames to FTP once every specified number of seconds. It was this opportunity that was used for bird broadcasting. Each frame has a unique and unpredictable name, consisting of the camera name, date and time of the photo.

In order for these frames to be used, one of my blog readers wrote a script that renames the newest frame, deletes all old frames and updates the picture every five seconds.

The camera sees perfectly in the infrared range. Apparently this is why the bright green foliage of trees turns out purple - it reflects IR well.

Here's a shot taken in complete darkness with the IR illuminator turned on.

A fragment of video recorded by this camera.

I did not regret spending fifty dollars - the cameras came in very handy when I found a wagtail nest on the balcony and I think they will come in handy again.

Upd: Instructions in PDF.

Before you learn how to connect and configure an IP camera through a router, you need to take a closer look at the very concept of an IP camera, its purpose and areas of application. It is worth saying that you can connect the camera directly to a computer or laptop. But then you can limit yourself to a webcam (if you need one). Wireless IP cameras make sense if you have multiple video surveillance devices.

Every day IT technologies are moving forward, and it is no longer necessary to lay a lot of wires for all devices

IP cameras are used to organize a video surveillance system. They are used mainly in stores and shopping centers. Of course, they can be installed in your own home or on the street. They are usually installed during the renovation process (if it is a new room), since otherwise you will have to hide cords and wires under special structures. Many devices and appliances are switching to wireless connections. Here IP cameras are no exception.

Of course, such a system has its drawbacks. Surely everyone has a Wi-Fi router at home. This is the simplest example of using such a system. You just press the power button, and the entire house has access to the Internet. But you should also have noticed that the further away from the router the device through which you connected to it is, the lower the Internet speed. And in some places it is completely absent. It turns out that the powers of the router are not limitless. This is due to the quality of the received signal.

This means that the further your IP camera is from the Wi-Fi router, the worse the signal quality will be. In this regard, problems may arise with image transmission, audio stream speed, sound recording, and so on. Modern routers cannot distribute the network over long distances. Therefore, you should make sure that the camera is located close to the device that distributes the Internet. Then the thought arises that a wireless connection of cameras with a router and a computer will be relevant for small rooms. Otherwise, you will not be able to do without a wired connection.

So, if you have figured out the location of all devices, you can proceed to actually connecting and setting up the IP camera through the router. Take this moment seriously enough so that there are no problems in the future. It is worth noting that the use of a Wi-Fi network, for example, by other users, can add problems with signal transmission to the camera. You need to take this point into account. But with a wired connection such problems should not arise.

To begin, select the connection method: wired or wireless. For the first option you will need an additional UTP cable. It is needed to connect the camera to the router. If you have figured it out here too, move on to the next series of actions.

Setting up an IP camera

  1. We connect the camera and computer with the appropriate wire.

  1. Now you need to log into the camera control panel. To do this, you need to find the installed IP address of the camera and set the same subnet to your computer (usually the IP can be found on a sticker on the device itself or in the device box). For example, the address is 192.168.0.20. Launch the “Network and Sharing Center” menu in the control panel. There we find “Local Area Connection” and one of its tabs - “Properties”. We configure “Internet Protocol Version 4” according to the screenshot.

  1. You have successfully configured the subnet. Next, launch the browser and enter the camera address http://192.168.0.20 in the field and enter the login information. They may also be on the box. If you still have one camera, then you don’t need to do anything else. If there are several, move on to the next steps.
  2. We change the IP address depending on the local network range (you will need to know the router address). You will need to install the same one for the camera, but change the last digit. For example, the router has an address of 192.168.1.2, then the camera can be set to 192.168.1.11. To do this, you need to check the box next to the “Fixed IP” field and enter the appropriate data.

  1. After saving the settings, you can disconnect the camera from the computer. We connect it to the LAN port of the router. Go to the local network connection settings (in the case of a wired connection between the router and PC). There we remove the previous settings (see point 2) and set automatic receipt of IP and DNS.
  2. Having returned the patch cord to the network card, go to the browser at the new address of the camera, as in step 3. Find the Wireless menu to provide a wireless network for connection automatically. Here you will need the SSID and password. We save and restart the camera.

  1. We disconnect it from the device and connect the others one by one. Their parameterization is the same, with only one caveat: they must have different IP addresses and ports. After finishing, you can proceed to setting up the router.

Setting up the router

  1. Since all manufacturers have different settings menus, we will use the following example. We need a Port Forwarding menu item (or something similar). But first you need to enable the virtual server, then enter the data according to the screenshot. Such manipulations need to be carried out for each camera (if there are several of them).

  1. If you have a static IP address, simply write in your browser: http://your address:8181. This will take you to the page with the view from the first camera. But most often a dynamic address is set. In this case, proceed to step 3.
  2. You need to enable the DNS client in the WAN menu. For example, Asus allows you to use their server for free. Otherwise, you can resort to using third-party services (NO-IP, etc.).

  1. Having saved all the set parameters, you can, which you got after registering in the services. Ready!

Now you know how to connect and configure an IP camera via a router. From now on, you can install your own video surveillance system and even make it wireless. Enjoy!

In our country, many facilities use modern video surveillance systems. Previously, such solutions were associated with certain operational restrictions, the need to attract expensive equipment and highly skilled labor. Now such devices have become more accessible and easier to maintain; they do not require a large number of steps when connecting. Therefore, everyone can easily figure out how to connect to an IP camera via the Internet.

Setting up remote monitoring of a site and managing all necessary devices is not that difficult. Any user can handle the project, even if his knowledge of Networking requires the use of certain devices.

Digital Video Recorders

It performs several main tasks, including recording information on various media, signal processing, and recording. For registrars, access to the network interface is important, otherwise the information cannot be processed in accordance with all the rules. The interfaces themselves can be software or server-based.

In the case of software varieties, special software is installed on the PC. Usually it comes with the recorder itself, on a disk. With the server interface, just open a browser to view the recorded files. Many manufacturers have developed extensions that simplify the solution of the problem. Their representatives tell us to go to the computer.

Local networks

The camera, router and recorder connect to each other through this network. We accept a wired or wireless option for organizing such networks.

Router, routers

This is the main component on which . Connects existing equipment to external channels. An example is the Internet.

  1. The IP camera itself.
  2. Software for viewing recorded information from various devices, including mobile phones, tablets.

Interesting. Obtaining a static IP address is also a mandatory requirement. Providers themselves provide such information, but it requires a separate fee. You can use cloud storage to watch videos.

Connecting one video camera

Connecting one device for recording is the simplest option for organizing remote monitoring. In this case, the procedure is simple:

  • Connecting an IP camera to a personal computer.

After this, you need to enter the IP address assigned to the device in your browser. Sometimes it is indicated on accompanying stickers; in most cases, the information is given in the user manual. Otherwise, it is impossible to figure out how to configure IP.

  • A network interface with settings appears in front of the user when he enters the desired address.

You must select the option to automatically obtain an IP address. Or static information is registered manually. The login and password for remote access are written in the same section.

  • Specify separately the port through which access to the World Wide Web is obtained.

The most commonly chosen value is 80.

  • When the required address is specified, the camera is disconnected from the Internet and connected to a personal computer.
  • You can view the video in the browser using any device. It is enough to first indicate the IP address, separated by a colon is the number of the port itself.

Networking with a router

A router is needed if the system includes several devices at once. This creates a separate subnet that has access to all devices. The principle of setting is in many ways similar to what was already mentioned earlier. Everyone can figure out how to connect WiFi cameras to routers.

The router settings are entered in the same way. You must assign your own port to each camera that will operate in the system. The most commonly used menu is called Routing. Thanks to this item, it is easier to transfer external requests to different IP addresses of the system.

The operating principle is characterized by the following description:

  1. Each device in the system has its own external port and its own IP address.
  2. When the router itself is configured, they move on to each individual camera. It is easy to configure each such device directly.
  3. Each device has its own unique IP address. You cannot use the common one.
  4. After setup, each camera is connected to the router. You can see the devices immediately after connecting.
  5. To view information, you need to use the request “static IP address: external port of a specific camera.”
  6. Connecting the system with DVRs is the same as described above. The wireless method works here too.

Important. Even when the system settings are correct, some users have problems with remote video viewing. The reason for this situation is frequent connections to cameras on the same network. That is, a request is sent from an IP address to connect to it. This is not a logical action; the device is physically unable to fulfill the request. Videos are viewed from other IP addresses.

Connecting a WiFi camera

Here in the connection diagram there are also practically no differences from the previous options. The only difference is the need to use a special application to view the video remotely. Manufacturers usually release software to resolve the issue. The program must be downloaded from the Internet, then installed on your smartphone.

The video camera connects to the phone through this program.

Interesting. If it is not possible to carry a full-fledged camera, it will be convenient. Connecting from a tablet or smartphone, even a laptop, will allow you to quickly view the necessary records at any time.

How to find out the IP address of a CCTV camera?

Without this information, the camera will not be able to connect to the Internet. There are several options for obtaining this information:

  • From the instructions.
  • On the device box.
  • Label of the device itself.

Sometimes the address is written only for the family, and not for an individual model. Then you need special software to accurately determine the characteristics of the camera. The best option is a proprietary application supplied in the kit. It's easy to get into.

Angry IP Scanner is a popular application for those who have problems using proprietary solutions. This development allows you to find out the address of any device if it is connected to a local network.

One of the available options to solve the problem is to use the command line. You need to use one of two commands:

  1. Arp-a.
  2. Ipconfig.

After this, the user will see all the devices that have been connected. Setup is no problem.

Interesting. You can first disconnect and then connect the camera to determine the address if other methods do not work. The correct address is the one that is connected.

Setting up an IP camera for viewing via the Internet

Any IP camera is a network autonomous device. Therefore, it is given its own IP address, as mentioned earlier. Such addresses can be static or dynamic. There is no need for additional manipulations if the address is dynamic. And when the service designated as DHCP was enabled on the router. The assignment of this parameter occurs automatically after connecting the main working elements, then take the cable. Then the camera itself appears in the list of devices.

But most devices have a static address type by default. There is a high probability that the numbers assigned to the equipment do not initially match the range of addresses typical for the network. Then you need to change the designation. A laptop assumes the same rules are used.

Note! If you change your address, you cannot do without connecting to a computer.

First you need to find the Ethernet item, then go to the settings section. There the user selects the required combination of numbers for the IP address that will be used in a particular case. The address and subnet mask are entered in the corresponding field. If necessary, you can delete any information during the settings.

How to open a port to access an IP camera from the Internet?

Another question is connecting the camera remotely from an external network. To do this you will also need to perform several steps:

  • To do this, the user must know his IP address on the Internet.
  • Usually the information is seen on the status line of the router. The connection goes through it. Another option is special services like 2IP.ru.
  • You need to open a port on the router that allows you to enter the video surveillance system from the outside.

By default, the camera web interface most often occupies port 80. The router interface belonging to a specific person can also be located there. But there is a simple way to resolve the conflict situation. To do this, they simply use a different port, because the device has this capability initially. After this you can always connect.

Note! As an example, the TP-Link camera interface. In the settings section, you need to sequentially open the Network-Information items. Otherwise, the connection cannot be established further.

On the next page, the user should see a parameter called HTTP Port Number. The value 80 is where the checkbox is by default. It must be moved to the input field, and then any free port must be entered there. It is acceptable to use the existing value of 20,000. The changes must be saved, then a port number is added to the IP address to enter remote control.

The main thing is not to forget to visit the “Virtual Servers” section. It also needs to specify the settings selected by the user for a specific situation. Otherwise the connection will fail.

The router's demilitarized zone is another login option for those who were unsuccessful with the previous solution. You need to find a section in the router settings called DMZ. The function is enabled by checking the appropriate box. After specifying the local IP for the equipment, save the changes.

How to connect to an IP camera via the Internet?

Note! First you need to figure out whether the provider works with so-called “white” numbers. This is important for further work.

There are two main types of ports:

  1. Real ones, which are called “white”.
  2. Virtual. Usually these are “gray” addresses.

A “white” address can be specified for direct connection to the camera. Then the connection does not cause problems.

To check the designation, it is better to use special services. Most providers work with real varieties of them. If not, then this is only a technical problem that can be easily solved if you set the correct values.

If the issue with the address is resolved, all that remains is to open the port. By default, the number 80 is always used. But it is better to replace this combination with any other number when setting up.

In the router menu you need to find the “Forwarding” item. In English it is called Port Forwarding. Here you need to specify several types of data:

  • The port through which external connections are made.
  • Import the camera itself.

Note! It remains to check the functionality of the connection when any changes are saved. You need to specify the IP address and port of the camera by opening any browser. If the web interface appears, it means everything is correct, the devices were connected successfully.

Programs for watching videos from a tablet or smartphone

In this case, no special settings are needed for the device itself. The following three applications that solve the issue have become the most popular.

  • Exacq Mobile.

Supports both iOS and Android operating systems simultaneously. Can work with 48 cameras simultaneously. The scaling function and convenient control are the main advantages of the application. Connecting a camera through it is as simple as possible.

  • IPCam Viewer.

Works with several cameras at once and combines them into groups. The application supports recording information on the media. Images can be easily scaled if desired. For quick access and updating of current information, you can install a widget. About 700 camera models are supported.

  • TinyCam Monitor Pro.

Supports up to 16 cameras simultaneously. It even supports multi-brand cameras. Multiscreens. Thanks to convenient management, settings are quickly transferred from one device to another. Data is written to the media directly from the program. Images support digital zoom. It doesn't matter which registrar is used.

Note! Working with any IP cameras around the world is an interesting feature specific to the applications. It will be especially easy if the device does not have a login with a password.

Video surveillance via cloud services

The main difference is sending files directly to storage facilities located on the network. From there, viewing is possible at any convenient time. To enable the function, all you need is a camera with P2P technology or a recorder. Device settings are displayed in the corresponding menu.

Services with video storage space can be either paid or free. The main thing is to maintain a static IP address.

Conclusion

The basic principle of connecting devices to the Internet remains unchanged. There are only small nuances that differ from one manufacturer to another. If everything is done correctly, the system begins to operate immediately after completing the basic manipulations.
