Procedure for turning on the device

Turning on the camera is very simple - just one press of the key (1). You may hear several beeps during the process.

Around the power key you can see a light indicator, the main function of which is to signal the current state of your device. If it lights up, the camera is turned on; if not, then it’s turned off.

Additional color indication allows you to determine the current battery charge level:

  • Blue color – high level
  • Purple – approximately half capacity remaining
  • Red – about 15% of the capacity remains and it’s time to recharge the camera.

Turning off the camera

To do this, you also need to use the key (1), and pressing should last about two to three seconds. Immediately before turning off, the camera will signal it three times with light and sound.

How to start shooting

Shooting both photo and video materials is carried out using the button (2) located on top. In the “photo” mode, the result of clicking on it will be a photo, and the process of creating it will be accompanied by two short sound signals.

In the “video” mode, pressing this key starts the recording process (accompanied by one short beep), pressing it again stops recording (you will hear two short beeps).

Switching between PHOTO and VIDEO modes

Immediately after turning on, the device goes into “photo” mode (the default mode can be changed in the settings). The current mode is changed by quickly pressing the power key (2).

You can determine which mode is currently active by looking at the indicator light located next to the above-mentioned key:

  • The indicator lights up – “video” mode
  • The indicator does not light – “photo” mode.

Charging the battery

Attention! Before charging, make sure the device is turned off! After this, connect the camera to a source of electrical energy (UMB, electrical outlet or the corresponding port of your PC) using a USB -> MicroUSB interface cable and wait. The charging ports are located on the back of your camera body under a removable protective cover. It may take 60 to 80 minutes to fully charge the battery.

Resetting the camera to factory settings

To cancel all current settings and return the device to its original state, you must simultaneously hold down the shooting, power and Wi-Fi control keys for five seconds. In addition, you can perform a reset programmatically through the corresponding menu section.

For a long time, a Xiaomi phone can delight you with uninterrupted operation, and then suddenly stop turning on. It is difficult to describe the emotions that arise in a user when he picks up a smartphone and it no longer shows signs of life. In such a situation, the first thing that comes to mind is: why did the gadget turn itself off and why won’t it turn on?

Yes, it’s a difficult situation, but there’s no need to panic. You need to first find out why this problem arose. Once you understand the cause of the problem, you can familiarize yourself with methods to solve it. And in today’s article we will help you figure out what to do if Xiaomi does not turn on. We will talk about the reasons that most often lead to the device refusing to turn on. Perhaps some of the above applies to your device.

Xiaomi produces high-quality products, but it is not immune to various malfunctions. After all, no technique is perfect. Owners of Xiaomi Redmi 4, for example, sometimes receive complaints that it does not turn on for unknown reasons. But other models, for example, Xiaomi Redmi Pro and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, can also upset the user. When such a problem occurs with your device, the first thing you need to do is find out whether warranty service is still available. If there is a warranty, you can easily resolve the issue with a specialist at an official service center. If the device does not turn on on the same day it was purchased, this may be a sign of a defect. In this case, you must definitely demand that the smartphone be replaced with a working one.

However, our citizens like to save a lot, fortunately today there is such an opportunity. This could be purchasing a gadget from Chinese online stores, from resellers, or a second-hand phone. Despite the noticeable advantages in the form of a low price, this method is quite risky, since the product does not have a warranty. A smartphone purchased from an official representative may also simply be under warranty. In this situation, you cannot count on free repairs if Xiaomi does not turn on. Therefore, you will have to delve into your device yourself to find out the cause of the problem in order to fix it. But it will not be easy for non-specialists to do this, but it is possible to conduct an analysis for the presence of problems that occur most often. The list of problems and ways to resolve them below is relevant for all Xiaomi models, since in software terms they are identical:

  1. Phone died before turning off. It often happens that the red indicator of a Xiaomi smartphone flashes and does not turn on itself. This may indicate that the battery is completely discharged. For this reason, the device may not have enough remaining power to start the system, making pressing the power key pointless. The issue is often resolved by putting the phone on charge for about 1 hour, after which you can start it up again by pressing the power button for 10 seconds. If the device is charged but does not want to turn on, take a closer look at the cable. It may be damaged, try a different cord. Or, just for fun, connect the old cable to another smartphone to see what the problem is. It happens that the USB connector in the device fails, so no power is supplied.
  2. System hangs. The second problem in turn is a software glitch, which entails turning off the mobile device, and it can also prevent it from turning on. If you have an older Xiaomi model with a removable back cover, you will need to remove the battery and then install it again. This performs a deep reboot of the smartphone. In gadgets in which the battery cannot be reached, for example in Xiaomi Redmi 5, to do this you need to hold down the power button for 10 seconds. After completing these steps, you can hope that the phone will still start.
  3. Malfunction of the power button and other hardware problems. Sometimes the cause may be mechanical damage due to the device falling or a possible manufacturing defect. Your own efforts are unlikely to help here; you will have to contact the service center. If Xiaomi turns off and does not turn on, the problem may also lie in a faulty power controller, due to which the gadget cannot gain energy to turn on; you can recognize the problem in this area by connecting a charged battery to the device.
  4. Firmware failure. Sometimes users encounter such a problem as their smartphone not loading completely. That is, the phone turns on, which is confirmed by the screen lighting up, but things don’t go any further. In this case, there is a high probability of problems with the firmware. Most likely, you will have to reinstall the device software. This can be done using the Mi Flash application, which is suitable for all the company’s gadgets, including the Xiaomi Redmi line.

However, it is not a fact that your device will have one of the above problems. Other reasons may also cause the inability to turn on:

  • a sharp change in temperature in the environment;
  • The battery is faulty, you need to buy a new one.

When the root of the problem becomes known, it will be immediately clear whether you should carry out the repair yourself or go to a service center. You cannot do without a specialist in case of serious damage, such as mechanical damage after a fall and water leaking into the body. Short-term disruptions may also occur as a result of individual applications not operating correctly. Moreover, all software problems can be treated in two common ways, and we will consider them.

Reset your device to factory settings

This method is not applicable when the Xiaomi phone does not turn on and does not show any signs of life at all. The so-called Hard Reset works if the device is turned off periodically or at least booted into Recovery mode. The problem can be solved in this way, but there is a significant drawback - the complete removal of all information from the device, including the contact list. Before proceeding with a factory reset, use a data backup and remove the memory card from the slot.

Follow this procedure:

  1. hold the volume down button and the power button at the same time until the Mi logo appears;
  2. Now we hold down only the volume key;
  3. after entering the recovery we look for the English language;
  4. We look for the Hard Reset designation, click on it, confirming our intentions.

When should you contact a specialist?

A serious malfunction will in any case require contacting a service center. Users who are not familiar with the inside of the device are not recommended to carry out repairs themselves, so as not to worsen the condition of the smartphone. If Xiaomi does not turn on, it is wiser to trust the technician, even if there are certain financial costs. Almost all you can do is change the firmware, reboot and reset the settings to factory settings. A signal to go to a specialist will be the following signs: the phone completely turns off even without the ability to enter recovery, the red light blinks when it’s off, the system freezes when loading the Mi logo, as well as obvious mechanical damage.

Today we invite you to look at GoPro’s main competitor among budget action cameras – the Xiaomi Yi camera. We will also learn how to set up the camera on Xiaomi and how to control it.

Even before it officially went on sale, this unit caused a lot of noise among users, because the manufacturer stated that it would have the same characteristics as GoPro, but at a very ridiculous price. The price was previously announced at $60, which, you see, is very, very tempting.

Almost all camera functions from Xiaomi can be controlled through special applications on a smartphone, which can be pre-installed via links and Remote Video. So far there are not very many of them, however, it is possible that with the update of the gadget’s firmware its functionality will expand. So far, the program allows you to make settings for photo and video modes, select the quality of shooting and configure the operation of the camera itself, as well as select the ability to visually display images from the matrix.

In the photo mode in the application we see the following picture: most of the display is occupied by the area for previewing the image from the camera matrix, and the selected resolution for shooting is written below. At the bottom are keys for controlling the action camera, and even lower is a status bar with the current battery charge of the phone, camera and Wi-Fi signal level. In video mode, the program looks almost the same. In addition, there is a Snapshot mode for creating quick pictures in a resolution of 640x480.

Parameters and their meanings

Setting up the Xiaomi Yi Action Camera is done through a special application, which we wrote about above, but there is an important point here - the application is only available for smartphones running Android OS, and owners of Apple products are still out of work. So, let's look at some of the modes with which I configure the camera. They are divided into several blocks.

  • Video. This is the mode for video settings. There are such items as Quality (video quality), Resolution (resolution), Time Stamp (display of time and date on video), Standart (video standard) and Metering Mode (exposure level measurement);
  • Photo. It is logical to assume that this is a mode that adjusts photography. There are such sub-items as: Resolution (also photo resolution), Default Photo Mode (this option allows you to select the default photography mode, for example, you can select normal, self-timer, burst and time lapse). Also available are the functions of displaying the date and time on the photo and Camera Default Start Mode (selecting the mode in which the camera will turn on by default);

  • Camera. Here you can configure the camera: Preview, Loop Recording (endless recording or recording in DVR mode), Lens Rectification (turn on/off Fish Eye), Auto turn on WI-Fi with Device (turn on Wi-Fi with the device), Buzzer Volume (adjusting the sound volume), as well as much more, such as Wi-Fi settings, LED indicator operating mode, setting the time and date, and turning off the camera after a certain time of inactivity;
  • Devices. This block contains complete information about the device, such as model name, serial number, current firmware version, as well as information about the flash card and the ability to format it. In addition, here you can enable the search function for the camera if it is lost somewhere nearby (it starts making sounds) and reset all settings to factory settings.

Conclusion

In general, we briefly got acquainted with the capabilities of the acclaimed Xioami Yi action camera and found out what each item in the settings means. In general, the camera shows very good results for its price, but the functionality could be expanded. We hope that the manufacturer will take into account the wishes of users and in the new firmware version will present us with new capabilities of such a small and bright unit.
