Any technology is short-lived, even the vaunted iPad Mini from Apple. Nobody says that it constantly breaks down, but user negligence or careless use periodically forces you to “open” the device in order to replace one or another module.

If you think that taking your tablet to a service center is stupid and you decide to fix the device yourself, use our instructions.

Required Tool

How to disassemble an iPad? This is difficult to do without special tools. You will need:

  • clock screwdriver (preferably 5-point);
  • plastic card/mediator/stack;
  • tweezers;
  • patience.

Display

We pick up our iPad Mini and see that the back cover cannot be removed, and the bolts are nowhere to be seen. Let's start with the fact that glue is used in the design. To do this, take a hairdryer and begin to gently “blow” over the entire front area of the screen.

As soon as you feel that the display has begun to “fidget”, carefully pry up the frame with a pick/card, as in the screenshot.

Slowly draw the tip of the card around the perimeter of the front. If you run into something, don’t pull.

Once the frame of the iPad Mini is removed, we proceed to removing the display itself. It is held on by 16 screws hidden by plugs like this one.

If the piece of metal is finally defeated, you can congratulate yourself. Now the disassembly process will be much faster.

Not only the sensor cable is “hidden” under the sheet of metal, but also part of the iPad Mini motherboard, as well as a Wi-Fi module with a set of letters in the name.

Carefully unscrew all the bolts around the perimeter, being careful. Mobile contacts are quite fragile.

We get to the treasured display cable, which is pryed off with the same pick or stack.

But the cunning Cupertino residents prepared another “trap” in the form of a couple of pieces of electrical tape. Carefully peel them off using tweezers. Now you can put the iPad Mini screen aside with a clear conscience.

Battery

We get to the battery, which is attached to the same adhesive tape. The peeling procedure is similar to manipulating the screen. Don't forget to disconnect the cable with the contact.

The battery is pryed around the perimeter with a plastic card and then removed.

Modules

So, let's get to the key components. At the bottom there are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas attached near the speakers.

On one's own? Then use our step-by-step instructions with pictures and videos, and remember the cheat for disassembly. You will need a set of special tools for repairing Apple equipment: a Phillips screwdriver, tweezers and a special spatula. Also, be extremely careful when performing repairs.

Repairing an iPad mini yourself is a very responsible undertaking that should be approached carefully. You need to be confident in your abilities and understand that you will not do any harm. If there are any doubts, then you better contact a specialist. Each user must take into account the fact that in the course of self-repair of the device, the owner may lose the official warranty from the manufacturer and assumes responsibility for all damage that may occur during self-repair of the equipment.

Step-by-step instructions for disassembling the iPad mini

Important! Before starting repair work, be sure to turn off your iPad mini!

Repairing an iPad mini usually begins by removing the touchscreen. To do this, warm up the iPad a little (you can use a hairdryer), pry up the touchscreen with a simple spatula and tilt it from the upper corners below, towards where the “Home” button is located. Be careful, because when working with cables you can damage them. They are short and require a special approach.

Unscrew the 4 screws of the matrix and move it towards the touchscreen.

Remove the 16 screws from the internal protection. The design protects the fragile matrix.

Remove 3 screws from the touchscreen protection, disconnect the touchscreen cable, remove it and the matrix.

Disconnect the battery from the surface of the motherboard. It is important to separate the battery from the device body. A spatula is used for this. When repairing your iPad mini, be very careful and careful.

We get rid of the three speaker screws, as well as the left antenna. At this stage, the antennas are disconnected.

Remove the four screws of the 8-pin connector. Remove the left speaker.

As a rule, the speakers in iPads are connected to the board with a thin adhesive tape. When repairing an iPad mini, it is very important not to damage this adhesive tape, which is very difficult to buy later.

Unscrew the 2 connector bolts. Remove the connector and remove the remaining speaker.

Remove the camera cable protection. Remove it by first disconnecting the cable.

Now disconnect the cable from the front camera. Bend the cable and disconnect the audio cable and screw.

Using a spatula, use a spatula to pick up the small plastic recess with the video camera and disconnect it.

Peel off the audio jack cable from the case, and then disconnect the volume and power button cable from the motherboard.

Remove the board from the device. Before doing this, you should warm up the iPad thoroughly, but do not overheat the device.

Unscrew the 4 bolts from the volume control button cable and the Power button. Remove the buttons by first unsticking the cable.

Fair, not overpriced and not underestimated. There should be prices on the Service website. Necessarily! without asterisks, clear and detailed, where technically possible - as accurate and concise as possible.

If spare parts are available, up to 85% of complex repairs can be completed in 1-2 days. Modular repairs require much less time. The website shows the approximate duration of any repair.

Warranty and responsibility

A guarantee must be given for any repairs. Everything is described on the website and in the documents. The guarantee is self-confidence and respect for you. A 3-6 month warranty is good and sufficient. It is needed to check quality and hidden defects that cannot be detected immediately. You see honest and realistic terms (not 3 years), you can be sure that they will help you.

Half the success in Apple repair is the quality and reliability of spare parts, so a good service works directly with suppliers, there are always several reliable channels and your own warehouse with proven spare parts for current models, so you don’t have to waste extra time.

Free diagnostics

This is very important and has already become a rule of good manners for the service center. Diagnostics is the most difficult and important part of the repair, but you don't have to pay a penny for it, even if you don't repair the device based on its results.

Service repairs and delivery

A good service values your time, so it offers free delivery. And for the same reason, repairs are carried out only in the workshop of a service center: they can be done correctly and according to technology only in a prepared place.

Convenient schedule

If the Service works for you, and not for itself, then it is always open! absolutely. The schedule should be convenient to fit in before and after work. Good service works on weekends and holidays. We are waiting for you and working on your devices every day: 9:00 - 21:00

The reputation of professionals consists of several points

Company age and experience

Reliable and experienced service has been known for a long time.
If a company has been on the market for many years and has managed to establish itself as an expert, people turn to it, write about it, and recommend it. We know what we are talking about, since 98% of incoming devices in the service center are restored.
Other service centers trust us and refer complex cases to us.

How many masters in areas

If there are always several engineers waiting for you for each type of equipment, you can be sure:
1. there will be no queue (or it will be minimal) - your device will be taken care of right away.
2. you give your Macbook for repair to an expert in the field of Mac repairs. He knows all the secrets of these devices

Technical literacy

If you ask a question, a specialist should answer it as accurately as possible.
So that you can imagine what exactly you need.
They will try to solve the problem. In most cases, from the description you can understand what happened and how to fix the problem.

During service, devices often fail. This also applies to Apple gadgets. Although they are famous for their high reliability, they still sometimes break down. In such a situation, there are two options: repair it yourself or take it to a service center. The first option is best used only if you are confident in your skills. The second option is suitable for anyone, especially if the iPad mini is not yet out of warranty.

If you decide to disassemble the tablet yourself, then you need to stock up on the necessary tools and prepare the gadget for disassembly. In order to disassemble the iPad mini you will need: a screwdriver (a clockwise one, or better yet a pentagonal one), a special hair dryer, a piece of plastic (a telephone card will do), small tweezers (eyebrow correction pliers will also work). You can prepare the device itself by simply wiping it and turning it off. Be sure to disconnect the charger if it is connected.

Disassembling the iPad mini

The case is assembled without screws, which will surprise you if you haven't noticed it before. These tablets use glue for fastening. This is where a hairdryer comes in handy. Turn it on and start warming up the screen around the perimeter. Do not enter the main work area; overheating may damage the display.

When the edges of the screen are well heated, the frame will begin to move a little. At this moment, you need to carefully pry it off with the card. Pieces of plastic must be inserted between the body and frame in several places. Next, run the plastic around the entire perimeter.

Having passed the entire perimeter, the frame will move away and can be removed. When the frame is removed, you can unscrew the display. The screws that secure it are hidden under the plugs, there are 16 of them. Look for the plugs and remove them. Set them aside in one pile so that nothing gets lost during assembly. You can put them in a saucer. Now remove the exposed screws. They should also be put in a pile next to the plugs.

It is not possible to remove the matrix right away; it is connected to the board with a cable. First you need to unscrew the metal screen. After you have removed it, you can unscrew the small metal plate. It is attached with three screws and has an irregular shape. Set the screws aside to avoid loss or confusion. Now you need to carefully disconnect the cable using a plastic spatula or card.

Next, a little surprise awaits you in the form of two strips of tape. Gently pick them up with tweezers and peel them off. The display can now be moved to the side. If the breakdown of the gadget is a faulty screen, then replace it with a new one and proceed to assembly. If the “Home” button is faulty, then you can replace it with a working one and start assembling the tablet.

If not, then move on to the next step. The next stage of disassembly is removing the built-in battery. To disconnect it, you need to disconnect the cable and peel off the tape where necessary. Now slide the plastic under the battery and lift it up around the perimeter. It is also attached with glue. Once she has completely moved away, she can be pulled out.

It's time for modules. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi antennas are located at the bottom of the case. They are attached next to the speakers. Here you can also find the touchpad. Lightning The connector is part of the system board and cannot be removed. Be especially careful with it, otherwise if you damage it, you will need to replace the motherboard.

All that remains is the motherboard. It is attached with glue and to remove it, you will have to use a hairdryer again. Take the body in your hand using a pot holder or a cloth folded in several layers. This is necessary so that you can hold the tablet while it heats up; it will be hot. Now, from the back side, heat the place where the motherboard is attached until it comes off.

Now you know how to disassemble a Mini tablet and can replace the broken part with a new one. There is no need to completely disassemble the gadget if the part that has failed is the “Home” button. After replacement, in order to reassemble the device, follow all the steps described above, but in reverse order. Gluing parts can be done by using double-sided tape of different widths. Or you can use one width, gluing it in two rows if necessary.

You can purchase a special iPad repair kit. It does not have a special hairdryer, but it does have a specific pad. It can be heated in the microwave and placed on the edge of the display in order to peel off the frame. When assembling the screen and touch glass, wipe the parts well with a lint-free cloth. It is important that there are no dust particles or fingerprints left between them.

This instruction is not suitable for all Mini models; for example, 4 has a slightly different structure. If you are not sure that you can fix the gadget yourself, it is better to take it to a repair center. Of course, this costs money, but it is better to pay to install a new part than to later pay for a more extensive tablet repair.

From within? How does he work? The first to try to answer these questions were the guys from iFixit, who, as always, managed to get hold of a new product even before the start of sales. They showed how easy the process of disassembling a mini tablet can be. Even for a beginner, it will take just a few minutes, without any risks to the device itself. In addition, the iPad mini received a low rating for the difficulty of disassembling. You just need to know some nuances...

First, warm up the front panel of the device. To do this, you can use such improvised means as, for example, a regular hair dryer or battery. Creatives from iFixit use their own development for this - the iOpener heating pad.

Now carefully lift the display and begin to open the device from the top. In the lower right corner you will come across the first obstacle - the touchpad cable.

You can't simply remove the touchpad because of this cable. It is necessary to remove the screen, but its screws are well hidden, so you should find them first. When you open the screen, you will see a solid metal plate. It is held on by 16 screws, which are not so easy to unscrew, be patient!

Once you have completed this difficult task, you will be rewarded for your patience! Now you can easily completely disassemble the device by disconnecting its parts.

Carefully remove the plate behind which the touchpad cable is located, and you will find a part of the motherboard with a Murata 339S0171 WIFI module.

Then disconnect the cable.

The last thing that continues to hold the screen with the body are two adhesive tapes. Peel them off carefully.

The first stage is over, the screen is disconnected!

Please note: the display has a separate circuit board behind the plate and adhesive tapes.

Now you can breathe a sigh of relief and move on to the battery. Use a regular plastic card to carefully peel it off the case.

The device's instructions indicate the battery's energy characteristic is 16.3 Wh, although in reality it is 16.5 - 16.9 Wh at a voltage of 3.72 - 3.78 Volts and a capacity of 4400 - 4440 milliamp-hours.

By disconnecting the cable, you can remove the touch panel. At the bottom of the mini tablet are Bluetooth and Wi-Fi antennas. They are attached to stereo speakers. We film them too.

There is no way you can remove the Lighting connector, because it is an integral part of the motherboard. The main thing is not to damage this connector, otherwise it will have to be replaced with the motherboard!

Pre-unscrew the motherboard so that it can be removed.

But that is not all. It is not yet possible to remove the main board; warming up is necessary again.

After warming up, carefully pry up the board and remove it. Now you can see what the motherboard looks like from the inside.

So, you have reached the A5 processor, as well as the main “filling”. Flash memory is highlighted in orange - a 16 GB Hynix H2JTDG8UD2MBR module. Green is the Apple 338S1116 audio controller manufactured by Cirrus.

The last thing left to do is to remove the cable with the microphone, mini-jack and FaceTime camera. Pre-heat it from the back side, only then can it be removed.

Congratulations, you did it! It is no coincidence that the complex and at the same time simple system for disassembling the iPad Mini, according to iFixit, receives only two points out of ten - the level of complexity does not require special practical skills. If you don’t want to or are afraid to disassemble the iPad Mini, then contact a specialized service.
