Hello everyone, I'm back. I passed the exam, but didn’t pass physics; in other words, I don’t know what will happen, but while there is time before they decide what to do with me, I decided to work on the blog.

Today I will write about how to install mods correctly, because I decided to fill out the mods section. In this post I will provide links to download the programs necessary to install mods and explain how to install mod in minecraft.

So let's get started. First, I will write the installation algorithm:

  • Choose installation path depending on the operating system and find the minecraft.jar file and make a copy (to return what was there in case of failure)

- For Windows XP the path is like this

C:/Documents and Settings/*Username*/Application Data/.minecraft/bin
(The files may be hidden; to do this, go to Tools-Folder Options-View-Show hidden files and folders)

— For Windows 7 or Vista the path

C:/Users/*Username*/AppData/Roaming/.minecraft/bin)

  • Open the minecraft.jar file with an archiver (WinRAR or analogues) and open the archive of the desired mod.
  • Drag files from the mod archive into the minecraft.jar archive

If everything is done correctly, then the installation is complete, all that remains is to clean up all our changes, and to do this we delete the META-INF folder in the minecraft.jar archive

But that’s not all, there are a lot of installation descriptions on the Internet, but not everywhere for all versions, and I can’t allow this, so I decided to combine in this post instructions for installing Minecraft mods for any version.

ModLoader for all versions.

I won’t go into details, because I want to write for people who are absolutely ignorant of modding matters, I will only say one thing - ModLoader greatly simplifies it. So, I put all currently known versions of ModLoader into the archive.

Remember, if a black screen appears instead of the game, you have chosen the wrong version of ModLoader for MineCraft.

Audio Mod for all versions

It’s also a program or a script, somehow I didn’t go into detail, but the point is that it is necessary for the correct operation of sounds in the installed mod. Just like ModLoader, you need to select a version. All versions are also in the archive.

And let's not forget about the GUI Api.

This is a graphical interface, you also need it, if you want more details, go to WikiPedia and read, I decided to teach you how to install mods, and not blow your mind with half a lecture on computer science and programming.

The last three things, GUI Api, AudioMod and ModLoader, are installed in the same way as regular mods, i.e. open minecraft.jar and the archive of what we are installing, transfer it, delete the META-INF folder.

Somehow like this. If you have questions, ask in the comments, I’ll try to help. Well, to reinforce the material, just like in school, watch the video about how to install the MineCraft mod.

Minecraft is the best survival sandbox the gaming industry has ever created. Its capabilities have long gone beyond the boundaries of the ordinary cubic world. Advanced shaders, improved graphics, new blocks and inventory - all this was brought into the game by modifications, and in common parlance - mods. Let's learn how to install such mods.

Before starting the installation, you need to download two supporting programs. You can use "ModLoader" and "AudioMod". The first allows you to run files that are not included in the standard package of the game. And the second one will reproduce the sounds included in the mod assembly. To download "ModLoader" go here, and "AudioMod" can be found here. After you've downloaded the mod you like, it's worth checking whether the build versions of the mod and your game client match. You should also make sure that the utilities mentioned in the first paragraph will work correctly with your launcher. If the versions do not match, look for a new mod, otherwise nothing will work. It should also be mentioned that some assemblies may not function correctly, conflicting with one another. After that, we move on to installing the modifications itself. First, find a file called "minecraft.jar". It can be located along this path:
  • C:/Users/Account Name/AppData/Roaming/.minecraft/bin – for Windows Vista, 7 or 8.
  • C:/Documents and Settings/Account name/Application Data/.minecraft/bin – for Windows XP.

This file should be opened with an archiver such as 7Zip or WinRAR. To do this, right-click on the icon and select “Open with”, a list of programs will be provided here.

In the window that opens, find the “META-INF” folder. Subsequently it must be removed. This needs to be done so that when generating a new world, you don’t see a black screen instead of a landscape. Next, copy and replace all files from the modification assembly. Thus, you can add new inventory and interior items, unique ore or blocks to the game world. If the monitor still turns black, this indicates broken mod files - and you will have to restore the standard data. Therefore, we recommend making a “clean” backup copy of all files in advance, and then replacing them.

To change textures in the game, you need to find the “resources” folder in the game directory. Also, the folder of the same name will be present in the mod assembly, files from it will be transferred to the first one. Afterwards, as in the previous case, we transfer the archived mod files to “minecraft.jar”. Remember that you have yet to delete the folder called "META-INF". Modifications to the server are installed according to the same principle, but with two small differences. Instead of “minecraft.jar” we will copy the files to “minecraft_server.jar”. And the second difference is that there is no need to delete “META-INF”.

And finally, a few small tips. If the modifications are not installed, look in the folder with them for the “Readme.txt” document. Some mod builds may have their own instructions and instructions for installing them. In addition, do not try to combine textures from different modifications, as some items may disappear.

A mod is a special add-on that adds new features to the game in order to expand it and make it more interesting. They come in a wide variety, allowing you to realize a large number of player desires. There are options when you can download any version of Minecraft with mods already installed, for example, Minecraft 1.3.2 with (ModsPack).

Some mods are installed by replacing some components of the game, while others are installed using loaders such as Forge. The first ones are not entirely safe to use: the game may not start, and in order to return it to how it was, you will have to install it again, or stock up on a copy in advance. For this reason, the idea was born to create bootloaders that make the process safer and, equally important, simpler.
There are notes on their descriptions that tell you exactly what type of installation they use. Most often this ModLoader And Forge.

Loaders from both cannot be used at the same time, otherwise the game will not be able to start.

Installation for Minecraft 1.6 and older

Starting from this version, the installation process has changed:
The main game file "minecraft.jar" has disappeared. Instead, folders with profiles have been created in which version files are located. These folders are placed in the "versions" directory.
In the official launcher, version files are overwritten if they have been changed. The same thing can happen in some other launchers.
Accordingly, mods for ModLoader are placed in “jar” version files.
If you perform an automatic installation via Forge, then you only need to move the finished mod to the “mods” folder.
To install mods you need a bootloader. How to install it is stated on the developers' website. Nothing complicated: download, run, follow the program instructions.

Installing ModLoader

  1. Download the mod you need.
  2. From the Start menu, select the Run dialog (or press WIN + R). Write “%appdata%.minecraft” in it and press Enter.
  3. Go to the "versions" folder. Select the version you need and copy it, changing the name.
  4. In the copy you need to rename the old files “*.jar” and “*.json”, they must correspond to the name of the folder.
  5. Open the one that is “json” with notepad. But it’s better to use Notepad++, it is more convenient for such things and has syntax highlighting, making it easier to navigate through the code.
  6. At the top there will be an “id” item, which contains the old profile name. Replace it with a new one (folder name) and save.
  7. The “*.jar” file can be opened through any archiver. Add files from the mod to it, replacing the existing ones. Delete the “META-INF” folder, because it will not launch mods or the game itself. Instructions on how to do everything correctly can be found in the description of the mod. As a rule, you need to unpack the downloaded archive; these will be the files that need to be replaced.
  8. Go to the launcher, select the created profile in its settings and try to enter the game. If the installation was successful, it will launch with mods.

Installing Forge

Forge will be installed - install any mod!

At the moment, this is the main program for installing new mods for Minecraft. Installation varies depending on the game version. I distinguish between installations on versions before Minecraft 1.6.x and after Minecraft 1.6.x

Installing versions after Minecraft 1.6.x

Installing versions BEFORE Minecraft 1.6.x

I won’t describe it, but watch the video

Mods are one of the most important additions to absolutely any game. And Minecraft is no exception, because this game has captivated millions of human minds, and mods can complement its gameplay and make it even more attractive for modern gamers. But many beginners are faced with the problem of installing mods, and to their credit, this issue is still open. So, how to install the mod on Minecraft correctly so that no problems arise?..

Detailed video about the correct installation of mods for minecraft

If the video does not load or there are difficulties, read the instructions.

  • Before you start installing a mod for the game, you must check the version of Minecraft installed on your PC and the mod. The point is that they match 1.5.2 for 1.5.2, 1.6.4 for 1.6.4 and so on - this is necessary for the installed mod to work correctly.
  • Also, before starting the installation, you need to ask what programs will be needed to install this or that mod, since there are quite a lot of them - it simply doesn’t make sense to describe everything. To obtain the relevant information, you just need to type the name of the mod into one of the search engines.

In general, in most cases the following programs will be suitable: ModLoader or Forge.

Using Forge

Using the Forge program, you can install mods either manually or automatically, it’s up to you. For automatic installation you need:

  1. First, download the required version of the program that matches the version of the game; it is better to do this on the official website. Remember that if you are interested in automatic installation, then you need to download a file called “installer”. Usually the recommended version is indicated directly on the official website, and it is best to download it, because it is the most stable and bug-free.
  2. Then you need to run the file that you downloaded. Just click "OK" and wait for the process to complete.
  3. After that, launch the launcher and select the required profile with the version suitable for Forge. Wait a little. That's all, the necessary mod is installed.

Manual installation using Forge is a bit outdated, but if you want to install the mod on Minecraft this way, then do the following:

  1. On the official website, download the version of Forge that matches your version of Minecraft.
  2. Open the file called “minecraft.jar”, for this we need an archiver. If you have it installed, then everything is fine, you can move on to the next step, but if not, then you need to download and install it. To simplify this operation, you can simply enter the following type of inscription “download archiver” into the search bar, absolutely any will do, then go to one of the links and download it. As a rule, this does not take much time; all that remains is to install it on your PC, after which you can successfully open this file.
  3. The file we need to open is located in the system folder of your operating system. If you have Windows 7 or Windows Vista installed, the path will be “C:/Users/”User name”/AppData/Roaming/.minecraft/bin”. If you are still using Windows XP, then "C:/Documents and Settings/"User name"/Application Data/.minecraft/bin". Important: “User name” indicates the name of your profile on your PC.
  4. Next, you need to open the archive in Forge and copy the files there into “minecraft.jar”.
  5. After this action you need to launch MineCraft. Forge will automatically scan the game files and even create a special folder called “mods”. That's all, now you can use your favorite mods.

Using ModLoader

To install mods in the Minecraft game using the ModLoader program, you need to do the following:

  1. Download the required version of the program that matches the version of the game installed on your PC. It is also recommended to do this from the official website of the program, so as not to pick up various types of viruses.
  2. Open the file called “minecraft.jar” using some archiver, if you don’t have one, then the solution to this problem was described above. The file location was also indicated for various OSs a little higher.
  3. After this, all that remains is to move all the files from the archive with the ModLoader program to “minecraft.jar”.
  4. Now you need to open the archive with the mod necessary for installation and copy the files from it to “minecraft.jar”.

There are, of course, mods for Minecraft that do not require the installation of various third-party programs. Very often, their installation is prescribed separately on the page where the mod itself is located. And the specifics are slightly different from the standard mod installation.

When downloading mods from third-party resources for the game Minecraft, it is recommended to beware of malware, which, in turn, can cause significant harm to your personal computer. Also keep in mind that some mods can successfully conflict with each other, since they are created on the same platform, for this reason even the game can, roughly speaking, “be covered.” Therefore, if you like to “play around” with mods, then make a Minecraft Backup from time to time. And, of course, you cannot install a mod if its version is different from the version installed on your PC of Minecraft. Nothing good will come of this.

To install mods on Minecraft 1.8 without Forge, you need to perform several steps. These instructions are valid for minecraft versions starting from 1.6.1 and if you are not going to install Forge, for example, if it has not yet been released for the current version of the game. In new versions of the game, the minecraft.jar file has disappeared, instead you need to edit other files, manual installation of mods has become more complicated, but you will succeed if you strictly follow the instructions.

1. Open the Minecraft folder by entering %appdata%\.minecraft in the search
2. Go to the versions folder
3. Create a copy of the 1.8 (or other desired version) folder and name it 1.8-mods
4. Login, rename the 1.8.jar file to 1.8-mods.jar, and the 1.8.json file to 1.8-mods.json
5. Open the file 1.8-mods.json in notepad, in the first line “1.8” change to “1.8-mods”
6. Download the desired mod that works without Forge, load all its files into the 1.8-mods.jar file and open it using an archiver
7. In the 1.8-mods.jar archive, delete the META-INF folder
8. Launch Minecraft, create a new profile, select 1.8-mods in the “Use version” field

Now you have patched Minecraft, ready to install other mods; to install a new mod, you only need to perform one action - this is the 6th step. If the game does not start, then either the versions of the mods and the game do not match, or you made a mistake when renaming the files, or your mod must be installed in a different way.
