In Windows 10, the Start menu consists of two main elements: the link bar on the left side and the tile bar on the right. The link bar displays the current user's name and avatar, the computer's power management menu, a set of links to user folders, Explorer and the Settings panel, a list of frequently used applications, and the most recently installed application.

The contents of the list of frequently used applications are constantly updated, but you can forcefully remove unnecessary elements from it: just right-click on them and select “Do not show in this list” in the context menu. Clicking on the username brings up the account management menu, which allows you to go to its settings, block and log out.

For programs that support jump lists, additional menus are available with links to frequently used, pinned, and other items. Jump lists are a very handy thing that disappeared from the Windows 8 Start screen and returned to the menu in Windows 10.

The All Applications menu contains a list of all installed applications and games. Recently added applications are always available at its top; if there are more than three of them, it is automatically minimized. To clear this list, just click on the cross in the header (×); you can remove one element from it from the context menu by selecting “Remove from list”.

Applications in the menu are grouped in alphabetical order; by clicking on the desired letter, an alphabetical navigation panel opens, making it a little easier to find the desired item, eliminating the need for lengthy scrolling.

The tile panel is used to quickly launch applications and programs. Just like in Windows 8.1, the user is allowed to select one of the four available sizes for the tile, enable or disable the live tile, create a shortcut for the selected application on the taskbar, and, if desired, unpin the tile altogether. All of these options are available in the context menu of each tile.

For greater convenience, sets of tiles can be combined into groups, and groups can be assigned names; this feature is also very familiar to Windows 8.1 users. New for them may be the ability to almost randomly place tiles in the menu, and not strictly one after another, as was the case in the previous version of the system.

To create a group of tiles, just grab one of them with the mouse and drag it onto a small rectangle that will appear somewhere nearby and then become the group header. The solution is certainly not very successful, let's hope that Microsoft will abandon it in the future. By grabbing a group of tiles by the title, you can move it to the desired part of the menu.

If you already have a lot of tiles on the right side of the menu, and scrolling is inconvenient, you can increase the size of the menu horizontally and vertically. This is not difficult to do: just grab the cursor and drag one of its borders. Its maximum dimensions depend on the size and resolution of your screen.

Fans of minimalism can, if desired, unpin all tiles from the menu, and then reduce the size of the menu to a very compact one. Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to resize the All Apps menu horizontally.

Fans of Windows 8.1, accustomed to the Start screen, also did not go unnoticed by Microsoft: they were offered a full-screen mode for the Start menu. This mode can be activated manually or automatically when switching to tablet mode.

In full screen mode, the left side of the menu is automatically hidden, the tiles become larger and take up space in the center of the screen. If there are a lot of tiles, they can take up all the available space in the menu.

You can open the link panel by clicking on the “hamburger” in the upper left corner of the screen. To quickly access only the list of all installed applications or the computer's power management menu, you can use the buttons in the lower left corner.

Customizing the menu in the panel Settings → Personalization → Start. The user is allowed to disable the display of links to frequently used and recently added applications, enable full-screen menu mode, and get rid of links to recently opened items in the jump lists (this option applies to the Start menu and the taskbar at the same time).

In addition, there you can enable or disable the display of links to the desired user and system folders, including Documents, Downloads, Pictures, Music, Videos, Personal Folder, HomeGroup, as well as to Explorer and the Settings panel.

You can turn on or off the display of color and transparency for the Start menu in the panel Settings → Personalization → Color. This option also applies to the taskbar and action center.

If you still have any questions about using the new menu or have anything to add to our short review, welcome to the comments below.

See how much individual courses cost.

I didn't take this example out of thin air. You can see this for yourself if you search on the Internet.

The cost of such training starts from 950 rubles for one academic hour. As you know, it is equal to 45 minutes.

After you study with this teacher, you pay him money and he leaves. And in order to remember something from the past, you will have to call it again and pay again at this rate.

You will have to do the same if you did not understand something that was explained to you and you need clarification.

To understand that means this cost, let me give you an example:

Yandex Taxi hourly tariff 240 rubles per hour of waiting. This is in 4 times cheaper individual courses. The cost of these courses can only be compared with VIP taxi. And “very VIP.”

Do you know what you will think about when they explain to you how to do it correctly? click the mouse?

Right. You will feel like you are sitting in the most expensive taxi, for example in a Mercedes S class, or an Audi A8, or a BMW 7 Series. The taxi is stuck in a traffic jam, but the counter is ticking.

What a study this is!

Now, let's let's count.

General duration of all courses: 21 hour 01 minute

Divide by 45 minutes (academic hour). We get: 28 academic hours

Minimum cost for individual courses 950 rub.. per academic hour.

28 academic hours x 950 rubles = 26 621 ruble.

If you call a tutor, he will will cost you at least in this amount.

At the same time, no explanations or repetition of the material after the end of the lesson.

Considering that this course is recorded not for one, but for a fairly wide range of users, it would be fair reduce this price 3 times.

Thus, fairly justified price

Writes Augusta Sergeevna
from Saint-Petersburg:

You SHOW clearly, intelligibly, consistently

Hello, Evgeniy Alexandrovich! I first read the description of your video course in October 2011 and immediately ordered it. Having received it in November 2011, I remain a regular buyer of your courses, but I also enjoy receiving and studying your additional lessons with great pleasure.

You clearly, intelligibly, sequentially SHOW.

I specifically highlighted this word to show how it is important to us not only hear but also see what needs to be done. And you tell, without unnecessary ado, what and how to do in the issue under discussion. I read a lot of sites on training dummies, but in none of them, except yours, did I see such a clear, competent presentation and demonstration of the issue being studied. You understand your audience perfectly, that we need to chew and put in our mouths, otherwise we won’t understand, and other authors make exactly this mistake by presenting everything superficially.

You can repeat any lesson of the course, or an entire topic, always. At least in a month, at least in a year. And it won't cost you not a penny!

To get this amazing opportunity, you just need to order the Windows 10 Basic course.

And it will cost you total 95 rubles 71 kopecks for 1 academic hour.

I worked over this course 8 long months. I continue to work now, releasing additional lessons that you will also receive For a present. I am sorry give away your labor for such a small price. But since I promised, I will keep my word.

Working on a computer with Windows 10 is easy and pleasant thanks to a more friendly, beautiful and thoughtful interface than in the same “seven”. Although Metro seems something wild and unusual to many, in fact, if you delve a little deeper, there is nothing complicated or revolutionary new in Windows 10. Some elements were borrowed from Linux, others from MacOS, some were copied from mobile operating systems, windows and the ribbon were borrowed from Office 2007.

Let's take a look at how working in Windows 10 differs from other versions of Windows by familiarizing yourself with the main innovations in the interface and functionality of the new operating system.

In the G8, as you know, the Start menu was removed, instead of which it was proposed to use tiles, but a barrage of criticism from users forced Microsoft to return the main feature of Windows. However, there were some tiles on the right side of the window. On the left side of the menu there are links to applications, as in the “seven”, and the right side, where the system folders were located, is dedicated to tiles. Working with the new menu has become easier, especially when a lot of programs are installed in Windows 10: the alphabetical index will help you quickly find the desired shortcut, and the search bar will help you find any application or launch a system component.

Virtual desktop

One of the most important innovations for users who use a computer to solve a huge range of tasks is the introduction of virtual desktops. Now people familiar with Linux can sigh: Microsoft has finally added a feature that has been available on the free OS for over a decade. But its implementation is far from what has been seen in competing operating systems. Here you can create as many tables as you like, make some windows and applications common to several of them, and also move windows between tables. However, for some reason the developers did not dare to add more functions by simply copying them from competitors, and it is impossible to set different background images for each table. Note that even with this implementation, working in Windows 10 has become much easier.

Notification Center

Here Microsoft also plagiarized by adding features of mobile operating systems to desktop ones. As on a smartphone, all notifications, alerts and messages are displayed in a separate window, called up by an icon from the tray. In addition to the notification functions themselves, the new panel provides access to frequently used functions: changing the screen orientation, calling up system settings, turning on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and launching the notes application.

Working in Windows 10 on a portable device has become a smile thanks to the function of switching the interface to tablet mode, in which the tiles become larger and the windows expand to full screen. Virtual tables are disabled.

Phone Manager

Working with the file system of a mobile device in Windows 10 is no longer a chore. With the smartphone manager, even if it is designed for Windows Phone, the user can easily connect a smartphone/tablet to the computer, synchronize, backup or restore settings from a backup copy. And all this from one window without switching between modes. Setting up the connection, even in the case of a device running iOS and Android, is carried out in several steps and only once.

Browser

Browsing the Internet through the new Edge browser, unlike IE, is already real. But it is not suitable for everyday use. It's better to install Chrome or FireFox right away.

Due to the large percentage of outdated source code in IE, its further development does not make sense, because this drawback does not allow supporting many local web pages through which work is implemented in corporate and office networks.

Not surprisingly, the Edge icon is not much different from the IE icon: the first is a modification and improvement of the second after removing fairly outdated fragments from its code.

Command line

For users who know what working with the command line is, Microsoft has added several new benefits. For example, in the new OS you can select text fragments, as in a regular text editor, character by character, rather than entire lines.

Setting the transparency of the command line window in a wide range and adding hotkey combinations contribute to the convenience of the system administrator.

Quick access to any media and directory

Windows 10 has a very flexible interface and has many features that make accessing frequently used applications and file system objects easier. It allows you to pin any items (directories, applications, links) to the Start menu, taskbar, Start screen (tile area in Start), and Quick Access toolbar. If everyone is familiar with the first two cases from the days of Windows 7, then we will consider the latter in more detail.

By bringing up the context menu for a directory, file, Settings menu item, or even a site in Edge, you'll be able to add it to your Start screen.

As for the Quick Access Toolbar in Windows 10, pinning items to it will require opening an Explorer window and dragging the directory icon to the position in which you want to place it. Then going to the pinned directory will be possible after a single click on its shortcut.

In general, working in “ten” is not much different from working in Windows 7, with the exception of the presence of new interface elements and the location of frequently used functions, for example, the “Control Panel”, in the wilds of the system.

We welcome you to the first training video course on the Windows 10 operating system. The author of the video course, Andrey Sukhov, will introduce you to the functions of working with Microsoft Windows 10.

Andrey Sukhov also warns what not to expect from this course. But let's start in order, watch the training video.

If you are not a beginner and have long been familiar with how to work with Windows operating systems, then you will not find any secrets or system optimization. But if you want to study the operation of the operating system and generally learn how to work on a computer, then you can safely start studying this training course on working with the Windows 10 operating system. Andrey Sukhov will be happy to help you learn, playing the role of a guide in the computer world.

You should not count on the course as a guide to working with Windows 10. It will help you lay the foundation for independent work on the computer. A computer is a tool for adapting and solving one’s problems. Many of you can use it to work for, work with, and also as a way to make money online. But you can learn about this from other sections of our training portal.

If you consider yourself an advanced user and this course is not relevant for you, then we will be very glad if you recommend it to your friends and acquaintances. Let's work together to eliminate computer illiteracy. Don't forget to join our social groups.

The most obvious way to speed up your work with a computer is to buy more “advanced” components. For example, by installing an SSD drive and a powerful processor in your PC, you will achieve a significant increase in system performance and the software used. However, you can do it differently.

Windows 10, which will be discussed in this article, is generally a pretty fast OS. But, like any complex product, the Microsoft system is not without flaws in terms of usability. And it is precisely the increase in comfort when interacting with Windows that will allow you to reduce the time it takes to complete certain tasks.

New hardware can speed up processes that do not depend on the user: video rendering, program launch time, etc. But how you perform a task, how many clicks and mouse movements you make, and what tools you use to do so, determine the effectiveness of your interaction with the computer.

You can optimize your work with the system using the settings of Windows 10 itself and thanks to third-party solutions. Next, we will tell you how, using specialized software in combination with built-in functions, you can make interaction with the Microsoft OS more convenient.

Speed up authorization in the system

If every time you log into Windows 10, you still enter the password for your Microsoft account, then you are definitely wasting valuable time. The system provides a fairly secure and, most importantly, fast authorization method - a four-digit PIN code.

But if you don’t want to enter absolutely anything when you start your computer, you can completely deactivate the system authorization request.

As a result of these actions, when you restart your computer, you will not have to log in to the system and you will immediately be greeted with the Windows desktop.

Please note that you can disable the username and password request only if no one else has access to the computer or you are not concerned about the safety of the data located on it.

Use Punto Switcher

Every PC user often encounters a situation where, when quickly entering text, it turns out that a word or even an entire sentence is a set of English characters, whereas it was planned to write it in Russian. Or vice versa. Such confusion with layouts is a very unpleasant problem, if not annoying.

Microsoft did not begin to eliminate this seemingly obvious inconvenience. But the developers of the well-known Punto Switcher utility from Yandex did this. The main purpose of the program is to increase convenience and productivity when working with text.

Punto Switcher will understand what you are trying to write and will automatically switch your keyboard layout to the correct one. This will significantly speed up the input of Russian or English text, almost completely entrusting the program with changing the language.

In addition, using built-in keyboard shortcuts, you can instantly correct the layout of selected text, change its case, or perform transliteration. The program also automatically corrects common typos and can store up to 30 text fragments on the clipboard.

Add shortcuts to Start

Starting with the version of Windows 10 1607 Anniversary Update, a not entirely obvious change appeared in the main menu of the system - a column with additional shortcuts on the left. Initially, icons are located here for quick access to system settings and the shutdown menu.

But not everyone knows that you can add library folders here, such as "Downloads", "Documentation", "Music", "Images" And "Video". A shortcut to the user's root directory is also available with the designation "Personal folder".

Thus, a similar feature in Windows 10 allows you to navigate to the most frequently used folders on your computer in just a couple of clicks. Of course, the corresponding shortcuts can be created without problems both on the taskbar and on the desktop. However, the method described above will definitely please those who are accustomed to rationally using the system’s workspace.

Install a third-party image viewer

Despite the fact that the built-in Photos application is quite a convenient solution for viewing and editing images, its functionality is rather meager. And if the pre-installed Windows 10 gallery is really perfect for a tablet device, then on a PC its capabilities are, to put it mildly, lacking.

To work comfortably with images on your computer, use full-featured image viewers from third-party developers. One such tool is Faststone Image Viewer.

This solution not only allows you to view photos, but is also a full-fledged graphics manager. The program combines the capabilities of a gallery, editor and image converter, working with almost all available image formats.

Disable Quick Access in Explorer

Like many system applications, Windows 10 Explorer also received a number of innovations. One of them is "Quick Access Toolbar" with frequently used folders and recent files. The solution itself is quite convenient, but the fact that the corresponding tab opens immediately when you launch Explorer is simply not necessary for many users.

Fortunately, if in the “tens” file manager you want to first see the main user folders and disk partitions, the situation can be corrected in just a couple of clicks.

Now, when you launch Explorer, your usual window will open "This computer", A "Fast access" will remain accessible from the folder list on the left side of the application.

Define default apps

To get the best experience in Windows 10, you should set default programs for specific file types. This way, you don’t have to tell the system every time which program should open the document. This will definitely reduce the number of steps required to complete a particular task, thereby saving valuable time.

Ten has a really convenient way to install standard programs.

Moreover, in Windows 10, you can set which files will be automatically opened by which program.

Use OneDrive

If you want to be able to access certain files across multiple devices and still use Windows 10 on your PC, OneDrive in the cloud is your best choice. Despite the fact that all cloud services offer their own programs for the Microsoft system, the most convenient solution is the product of the Redmond company.

Unlike other network storages, OneDrive in one of the latest Tens updates has become even more deeply integrated into the system environment. Now you can not only work with individual files in remote storage as if they were in the computer’s memory, but also have full access to the PC’s file system from any gadget.

As a result, you will be able to view folders and files from your PC on any device. You can use this function, for example, from the browser version of OneDrive in the section of the site of the same name - "Computers".

Forget about antiviruses - Windows Defender will solve everything

Well, or almost everything. Microsoft's built-in solution has finally reached a level that allows most users to abandon third-party antiviruses in their favor. For a very long time, almost everyone turned off Windows Defender, considering it a completely useless tool in the fight against threats. For the most part, that's how it was.

However, in Windows 10, the integrated antivirus product has found new life and is now quite a powerful solution for protecting your computer from malware. Defender not only recognizes the vast majority of threats, but also constantly updates the virus database by examining suspicious files on user computers.

If you refrain from downloading any data from potentially dangerous sources, you can safely remove third-party antivirus from your PC and trust the built-in application from Microsoft to protect your personal data.

You can enable Windows Defender in the corresponding category of system settings section "Update and Security".

This way, you will not only save on purchasing paid anti-virus solutions, but also reduce the load on your computer’s computing resources.
