Matryoshka made of clay and plasticine

To work, we take a lump of clay and try to make a matryoshka doll. But no matter how hard you try, the sides of the nesting doll may turn out to be uneven. To fix this, we’ll make a template from thick cardboard.

We place the sculpted product on a pottery wheel or sculptural machine, attach the template to the figurine and turn it along with the wheel. The template itself will cut off the irregularities, and where there is a depression, add clay or plasticine.

And one more tip: to save clay and make the toy lighter, take a regular teaspoon and remove a little clay from the base. You can make a surprise - make a small nesting doll and cover it with a large one.

If it turns out that you don’t have clay or you are making a matryoshka doll in winter, use plasticine. And to make it more convenient to paint the resulting product, apply a little flour, talc or starch to the plasticine. This must be done so that the water-based paint, which is then used to paint the matryoshka doll, adheres well. Plasticine processed in this way can be painted with gouache, watercolor, tempera and even oil paints.

Papier-mâché matryoshka

A large fake nesting doll can be made using the papier-mâché technique (in French this means chewed paper). The essence of this technique is as follows: small pieces of loose paper (newsprint, packaging) are placed on an object (bowl, vase, etc.) in layers, covering each layer with potato paste.

There can be from 6 to 10 layers, depending on the size and shape of the product. After the paste has dried, the resulting form is removed. It’s easier to do this from a tray or saucer, but it’s not easy to do it from complex items (a jug, a vase). In this case, papier-mâché is cut into 2 halves, then, after removing them, the halves are glued together. The surface should be smooth, and if there are dents, they are primed with putty or carbolate, and the protruding tubercles are removed using sandpaper.

Matryoshka on a jar

A glass jar will serve as a good basis for making nesting dolls.

Take a glass jar of the required size (baby food, half-liter, 3-liter bottle) and close it with a lid. Let's form the sides and head of the nesting doll from plasticine. Then, using the papier-mâché technique, we begin making the toy.

To ensure that the finished paper product leaves the mold well, lubricate it with oil or Vaseline.

Tear the newspaper into small pieces and, having welded the glue, start gluing the matryoshka doll. We advise you to alternate a layer of newspaper with a layer of, for example, gray wrapping paper. After making 2-3 layers, let the work dry, then glue again. Cut the finished work into 2 halves with a sharp knife. Lubricate the edges of the cut with PVA glue and connect. You can tie them with thread. Glue the joint again. Sand the product with fine sandpaper, paint your nesting doll with water-based paint and paint it. To protect your work from exposure to water, coat the painting with varnish.

Matryoshka from a balloon

A large matryoshka can be made using a balloon.

Place it on the base (roll a strip of cardboard into a ring), it will be more stable.

Matryoshka, or as Americans call it Russian doll, is clearly in fashion now. A huge number of various variations on the matryoshka theme can be found on the Internet. While preparing for a lesson with the children (I had to replace our favorite teacher before the New Year), I found idea for an unusual nesting doll: either postcards or toys. We sculpted it with the kids and their mothers. And it was the mothers who were especially delighted :)

Matryoshka: postcard, craft, toy

  1. This time we did not create a template, but took the template from here.
  2. I cut out the matryoshka doll itself from colored cardboard, and the face, hair and flowers from flexics. If you don’t have flex, you can use anything (cardboard, colored paper, fabric, napkins).
  3. The parts can be glued to a glue stick or double-sided tape.
  4. I drew the face and flowers with markers.

This simple children's craft will delight kids, because it can easily be fold into an accordion, and then spread it out again, and so on 100 times, until something comes off... Well, it happens :) Or you can give it to someone and the nesting doll will proudly stand on the nightstand and remind you of the diligent little artist.

Everyone knows the wooden folding doll-matryoshka. Without a doubt, it is a symbol of Russian folk art. No less popular are toy options made from fabric, cardboard, clay and papier-mâché. We’ll look at how to sew a matryoshka doll with your own hands using a pattern and how to make a fun toy from papier-mâché below.

In 1896, Russian artist Sergei Malyutin came up with a detachable doll consisting of eight nested figures. different sizes. She depicted a woman with a round face, dressed in a colorful sundress and a colored scarf. The shape of the nesting doll resembled an egg, and the bottom was flat so that the doll stands steadily on the surface. The toy got its name from the name Matryona, which was common in those days, which translates as “noble woman.”

Usually, a doll toy is considered a traditional souvenir and is used as interior decoration. However, all children will like this doll with its bright and unusual appearance.

If you make a nesting doll with your own hands from fabric or other available materials, it can become every child’s favorite toy.

Irreplaceable felt

Most often, soft nesting dolls are made from different pieces of fabric. The most suitable material is felt. It consists of plates of compressed wool in numerous shades. It sews and glues well, does not have a pronounced front surface. The edges of the material are not prone to fraying, so there is no need to bend them. Felt is available in different thicknesses; thicker samples can be used for the base of the doll, and thinner ones can be used for small parts.

It is better to sew the face of the nesting doll from cotton or linen fabric in light shades.

To give the toy volume, materials such as padding polyester and holofiber are used. These fillers allow you to fill all parts evenly, do not cause allergies and retain the shape of the product even after washing.
