Useful information, review and photos of the best beach in Paphos - Coral Bay. How to get there, where to live and what to see in the surrounding area.

For those who often holidays in Cyprus It has long been no secret that Paphos has far from the best beaches and is much inferior compared to. Paphos is interesting with a rich excursion program, attractions, restaurants and entertainment for children and adults.

To make it easier for you to choose a vacation spot, be sure to read about, and today I will share my impressions about the coolest of them - Coral Bay.

Stony essence Paphos beaches and surrounding area complements golden sands of Coral Bay– the most popular place for those who like to soak up the sun and lie on the sand. This is not the only sandy beach in the city, but undoubtedly the longest and best.

Coral Bay or Coral Bay– a bay and the beach of the same name, which is 13 km away. from the central promenade of Paphos. An oval beach about 600 meters long, coarse dark yellow sand and picturesque stones along the edges and in the center of the beach. The beach is naturally divided into two parts; don’t be too lazy to walk through it all – it’s different.

The most popular part is the far one, near the final stop of bus 615. If you get off at the penultimate stop, you will find yourself in a less popular and less crowded part Coral Bay Beach. I recommend visiting both parts and deciding for yourself which is better for you.

Everything is there infrastructure– sun loungers, umbrellas, rental of water scooters and other equipment, changing cabins, showers, a cafe and a restaurant on the shore, as well as several hotels. There is parking for cars near the beach. The cost of sun loungers and umbrellas is standard for the whole of Cyprus - 2.50 Euro per sun lounger or umbrella. A set of two sun loungers and an umbrella will cost at least 7 Euros.

At sea in the bay Coral Bay Stones are poured in to dampen the waves and create comfortable conditions for children to swim. This is one of the features of the beach. At low tide, pay attention to the stones at the bottom; at this time it is better to go into the water in slippers. The stones at the bottom are of coral origin and they gave the name to the bay.

Coral Bay has a convenient and gentle entry into the water!

If the goal is beach holiday and as an addition a couple of forays into interesting places near Paphos. It is better to stay in hotels nearby. There are no cheap hotels on the first line here, I’ll warn you right away. Paphos is generally not the cheapest place in Cyprus.

If you live in Paphos, near the embankment or near other smaller beaches, on Coral Bay You will have to get there by public transport or by car. In the Coral Bay area, ATVs are very popular for short trips along the sea. You can rent them in advance at

How to get to Coral Bay

At the central bus station of Paphos, near the embankment, you need to take city bus No. 615, which will take you directly to Coral Bay. Come out to stop Coral Bay– it’s the final one, it’s hard to miss. Drive 20-30 minutes. A day ticket costs 2 Euro. A one-way ticket costs 1 Euro. You can get off at the penultimate bus stop - you will find yourself in a less popular part of the beach, from there it is convenient to walk the entire beach from beginning to end, about half a kilometer.

Buses run every 10-15 minutes!

What's missing from Coral Bay?

On Coral Bay there is no white sand - it is in, the sand is dark brown and golden, but also pleasant to the touch.

On Coral Bay there are no corals, there are stones of coral origin, which of course cannot be considered corals.

Sea nice color, especially in the mornings when there are few swimmers, but far from azure like near Baths of Aphrodite - compare in the photo below.

In general, the picture is far from heavenly; it is a good, but rather ordinary beach with yellow sand, a gentle entrance to the water and developed infrastructure. You can come here for the whole day or just choose it as a permanent vacation spot for your family.

On Coral Bay there are also low prices, like everywhere else in Paphos– this is quite an expensive place, especially in high season. But I also cannot say that the prices are critically high; everything is tolerable, especially for residents of the capitals and big cities of the countries of the former Soviet Union.

How to save money on your holiday in Coral Bay

If you want to save money, buy groceries and snacks for the day in the nearest Paphos supermarket ah, near a bus stop, for example.

You can buy one umbrella for the entire vacation period and take it with you. In this case, you won’t have to pay the rental companies every time. Can't do without an umbrella - summer in Cyprus the temperature is about +40, the heat is easily tolerated by the sea, the climate is dry, but there is no shade on Coral Bay No.

What to see in the vicinity of Coral Bay

Immediate attractionssea caves And half-sunk ship EDRO III. Both objects look picturesque in the sunset light. You can get to them by car, they are a five-minute drive away. If you are not afraid to walk in the heat, walk, or if you don’t have a car, take a taxi.

surroundings of Paphos - Coral Bay

To the right of Coral Bay there is a natural, very beautiful and picturesque cape, it’s nice to walk there and watch the surf that fills a small natural pool. At sunset, this is a stunningly beautiful place, spend a little time there without rushing anywhere. You can get there on foot along the shore, wearing slippers - the terrain is rocky.

How to get to Cyprus

IN Larnaca or Pathos very easy to get to, there are many direct flights from Moscow, Kyiv, Riga, Tel Aviv and other cities. You can choose a flight and buy cheap air tickets on the website aviasales.ru. I recommend checking the availability of cheap air tickets using the low price calendar.

Transfer from the airport in Cyprus

Cyprus– a top summer destination and taxi drivers at the airport often raise prices for their services. Plus, most of them don't have child car seats. They are not installed because the child seat takes the place of an adult passenger. Because of this, tourists with children have to run around the airport looking for a free car with a child car seat.

Both problems can be solved very simply. Transfer, both individual and group, is possible. There you can also choose the option with a child seat. You won’t have to overpay taxi drivers and there will be no problems with the safety of children.

Everything happens very simply. Afterwards, you will be met by a driver with a sign with your name written on it. Immediately after leaving the arrivals hall, you get into the car and drive to your hotel.

How to rent a car in Paphos

On Cyprus There are both expensive transnational rental companies and many small car rental companies. I use local rental companies, which are collected together on one website. There is Russian-language support. I used them three times in 2017 and 2018, everything was fine.

How to find an inexpensive hotel or apartment in Paphos

I won’t reveal any secrets - I use the trusted Booking.com and the aggregator site RoomGuru (HotelsCombined). The choice of accommodation, even for such a small island as Cyprus, is huge, but I recommend booking in advance because best options disperse a couple of months before the high season.

Paphos has a huge number of beaches: there are both secluded bays and crowded resorts. Surely every vacationer will find something of their own. One of the most popular beaches and the best in Cyprus is Coral Bay. There is fine soft sand and clean water, as well as a good smooth entry into the water, so you can safely relax with children.

The beach is marked with the “Blue Flag” sign - this is how environmentally friendly beaches are celebrated in the European Union. There are very strict requirements for such coasts. Therefore, the territory of water and shore is protected, and its cleanliness and safety are constantly monitored. Because of this, many foreign tourists and local residents vacation here.

How to visit Coral Bay

Paphos Coral Bay can be visited by public transport. Bus number 615 goes here. By the way, it also goes past the Royal Tombs - this is one of the most famous attractions of Paphos.

To make the journey as comfortable as possible, there is another way to get to the beach - use a custom transfer service. A car of your choice with a personal driver is delivered to the hotel, who promptly delivers tourists to their destination.

The beach has a developed infrastructure: many restaurants and eateries, shops, there is its own Luna Park, disco and bank, as well as a large number of water activities.

Holidays in Paphos Coral Bay are free, as it is a municipal beach. By the way, like all the beaches of Cyprus. This means that tourists can bask on the sand even near luxury hotels. True, sun loungers and umbrellas are paid, the cost is about 2.5 euros. But, as in any other resort towns, you can get a rug and feel free to bask in the sun in any place you like.

The beach is located 6 kilometers from Paphos, it has white soft sand. It is located between two limestone capes and has the shape of a crescent. To the north and south of Coral Bay you can see cliffs and sea caves. Not far from the main beach there is another place - Potima Bay. Buses run between Coral Bay and Potima every 15-20 minutes, so moving between the beaches is very short - about 5 minutes.

The beach belongs to the municipality of Peyia. In its vicinity there are the following interesting places:

  • monastery of Agios Neophytos;
  • Church of St. George in Agios Georgios;
  • Wind power plant;
  • City Bird and Reptile Park in Peyia.

Church of St. George in Agios Georgios

The church is small, stands on a rocky cliff on Cape Drepano. It was erected in honor of St. George the Victorious. At the foot there is a small port and village, as well as a sandy beach. Once upon a time this church was part of a large monastery.

Not far from the church there are ruins of the saint's basilica.

Monastery of Agios Neophytos

The Orthodox monastery is located near Coral Bay, 10 kilometers from Paphos. It was founded in the 12th century by Neophyte the Recluse.

History says that Neophytos was a novice of John Chrysostom. In an effort to become a hermit, he settled in the mountains where there were caves. The Neophyte chose one of them for asceticism and began breaking stones inside to enlarge it. Then he made a cell in it and closed all other exits from the cave.

The Bishop of Paphos in 1166 began to persuade Neophytos to accept the priesthood and take disciples. The neophyte resisted for four years, but finally succumbed. So his cell turned first into a monastery, and then into a monastery.

When the number of students grew, Neophyte decided to leave this hectic life and carved another cell into the rock. There he carved a grave for himself, and bequeathed not to touch it until the Last Judgment.

In the 15th century, the main building of the monastery was built and the relics of the saint were transferred to it.

Bird and Reptile Park

The park is located in Peyia. There is a lot of greenery and flowers on its territory; peacocks and ducks proudly walk along the paths. Not only birds and reptiles live here, but also zebras, deer, monkeys and other representatives of the fauna. The reserve is located in the open air and occupies 100 thousand square meters, and the animals are kept in enclosures and pens.

The park is especially rich in birds. It was with birds that his story began: in 2003, Christ Christopher donated a personal collection of birds, which was considered the largest in the world. Now the park is home to flamingos, parrots, eagles, ostriches, cranes and others.

There are also kindergarten: Visitors can get up close and personal with baby animals, feed and play with them. In addition, one of the best shows with parrots and owls is held here, it is simply a must see.

After visiting the park, you can walk to Coral Bay.

Wind power plant

Not far from Coral Bay is the first wind farm in Cyprus. Its description is perhaps standard, as for all other similar structures, but for people who have not seen such power plants before, it will undoubtedly be interesting. 41 impressively sized turbines were erected on the territory. They marked the beginning of green energy in the region.

Coral Bay Beach is included in its surroundings and is the most visited beach on the West Coast of Cyprus. Also in the resort area region, this beach is considered one of the best beaches for families with children of all ages.

The popularity of Coral Bay beach among tourists and residents of Paphos is due to the fact that the shore of the beach is covered with exceptionally fine and soft, light yellow sand with a reddish tint - most beaches in the tourist area have a mixed coating of sand, shell rock or pebbles, which may not be the best comfortable. The shore of Coral Bay is clean sand, which is comfortable to relax on and fun for children to play with. Sand is brought to Coral Bay from other places, and since the sea washes it out over time, the beach is completely “renewed” about once every 20 years.

Also, the advantage of Coral Bay beach is the seabed - it is also sandy (there are several underwater rocks, but they are quite large and, as a rule, protrude above the surface of the sea, so it is difficult not to notice them), shallow, with a convenient entrance to the water and a gentle slope depth, which makes swimming here the most optimal and safe for children. The beach itself is located inside a cozy bay, which is surrounded on the right and left sides by the protruding high, rocky peninsula of Maa-Paleokastro and the cape, which extend far into the sea. And beyond the coastal zone, Coral Bay beach is covered by a hill.

Thanks to natural barriers, comfortable weather conditions are maintained on the Coral Bay beach, and the water in the sea is usually 3 to 5 degrees warmer than on the beaches within. Although the beach water area is provided with natural protection from waves, there can still be small waves here. The only feature of Coral Bay Beach that can cause discomfort is the dark algae in both the water and on the beach - although they are cleaned daily.

Also, Coral Bay is not inferior to other famous ones in terms of amenities, comfort and infrastructure. The beach is marked with a Blue Flag certificate, there are beach equipment rentals, changing cabins, fresh water showers and foot washing fountains, sanitary areas; A rescue team is on duty during the day. There are also massage rooms on the Coral Bay beach - small tents, in the shade of which and in the fresh air you can relax while enjoying a massage procedure.

The shore of Coral Bay beach is about a kilometer long and 10 to 40 meters wide; At the same time, the length of the main bathing area, which is most prepared for receiving vacationers, is about 600 meters. Due to the high popularity of the beach (often the beach is almost completely filled with visitors), there is a fairly large number of recreational facilities - as a rule, these are two plastic folding sun loungers and a sun umbrella, while pairs of sun loungers are located at a sufficient distance from each other so as not to crowd visitors. At the same time, vacationers can easily stay away from the main bathing area, where it will be more spacious and quieter. Closer to the edge of the Maa-Paleokastro peninsula there is the Mycenaean settlement of Cyprus Museum and an active archaeological site. This very small museum was built on the site of excavations of an ancient settlement of the Mycenaean Greeks, who found refuge in Cyprus after the fall of the Mycenaean kingdom. The settlement arose in the 12th century BC and existed until 1150 BC. The museum's exhibition presents archaeological finds (mostly copies of them) made at the excavation site. Basically, more than the museum's exposition, tourists are interested in the unusual design of its building, which from the outside looks more like a landed UFO, and around which you can take wonderful and funny photographs.
