In my coaching work, I constantly come across students who use statistical programs (Holdem manager), but do not display the most important stats in their work. Today I will talk about what stats need to be inserted into ANY HUD so that it is as informative as possible and takes up little space

You won’t believe that a well-tuned HUD will allow you to practically not use additional statistics.

Gentleman's set for poker player:

  • VPIP– shows in % how often the player participates in hands
  • PFR– how often does a player raise preflop?
  • Aggression– how aggressive is the player
  • WTSD– income before showdown after seeing the flop
  • 3bet– how often does he rearrange his opponent’s raise?
  • Fold to 3bet– how often does it throw out for rearrangement?
  • Cbet FLOP– continuation bet on the flop
  • Fold to cbet FLOP– fold to a continuation bet on the flop
  • Donk– bet out of turn

The first set of stats is simply necessary for all players. Based on them, you will be able to understand the player’s tendencies and will make very good decisions. I discussed the tendencies of players in one of my videos, I highly recommend it. General stats are gained quite quickly, and a large sample is not needed to understand which opponent is in front of us.

Expanded/clarifying stats

Very often I see that people do not add such important stats as Fold to kbet in POSITION and WITHOUT POSITION, but use a general fold to kbet. In current realities, these 2 stats are very different: in position a person can fold 40% of the time, and out of position - 60%, and the result will show you 50! We can make a mistake based on false statistics. The same applies to kbets.

The second very important clarification concerns statistics on steals (raises from late positions: CO, BTN, SB). Many people use a common stat - fold to steal, but you and I understand that, for example, BB vs SB and BTN and CO folds completely differently! The same applies to 3bet and fold to 3bet, position versus position. If you don't understand what I'm talking about, then look video, about the mathematics of fold equity.

Naturally, it is not very convenient for us to use too many statistics. A HUD that takes up half the screen does not make the game easier, so we need to clarify only those situations that most often occur in the game! And so I would add.

What stats to add to the HUD:

  • Steal
  • SB fold to BTN steal
  • BB fold to BTN steal
  • BB fold to SB steal
  • Resteal
  • BTN Fold vs 3bet Binds
  • Fold to cbet IP
  • Fold to cbet OOP
  • Fold VS Raise IP

And then you say: “Where are the turn stats, opponent’s raises, etc.?” - A reasonable remark, but on the turn, in order to make a decision, I already open POPUP, where I look at several stat combinations at once, which will simply skew the entire had. The same applies to raises - in order to cbet, we essentially only need the fold stat.

This is what my HUD looks like:

Notes on my HUD

The Cbet stat is general, there is no need for clarification here, since in order to play postflop as a caller, I always open a pop-up and there I look at a whole complex of 6-10 stats.

Steal is also common, since in any case you have to go to POPUP to see how a person folds to 3bet, makes 4bet, in a specific position.

Fold vs raise IP - in fact, the stat is a kind of option for playing against BTN when I am out of position after injecting a raise. I don’t see the point in bringing up a situation when I’m already in position, there are much more options to beat my opponent and we just need a POPUP.

In all other respects, the HUD is very compact and takes up minimal space!

Next time I will present a complete HUD + POPUPs called Smart-HUD, and tell you what is included there. It will be available for download, note caddy is not used there.

Detailed analysis of HUD Settings in Holdem Manager 2

In the second part we will look at the remaining tabs in the settings section:

  • Popup Designer
  • Chart Designer
  • Main Popup/Table HUD
  • NoteCaddy Popups
  • HUD Filters
  • Tournament Filters
  • HotKeys

Before we continue, we remind you that you can get to the HUD settings by clicking on the button, which is located in the Home tab.

Popup Designer

This tab is intended for creating pop-ups (pop-up windows that are displayed by the program when you hover over statistical indicators in the HUD). The tab includes three areas:

New popup – creating a new pop-up window. After clicking this button, we will be asked to enter the name of the new pop-up, and then it will appear in the list of all available pop-ups (area No. 2).

Area #3 shows the layout of the editable pop-up.

  • Import 1.0 is an option whose purpose is to import pop-ups from the first version of HM.
  • Reset – recovery button initial settings for all initial pop-ups of the program. The pop-ups you create will not change.
  • Delete – deleting the selected pop-up.
  • Cell Width – change the width of the pop-up layout columns.

Let's look at the graphical controls located under the layout of the edited pop-up:

  1. Add new column – option to add a new column to the popup window layout. To add a column, we need to select the cell after which we want to insert new column. If the cell that we have selected is in the first column of the layout, then a window will appear asking whether to create a new column in front of this cell. “Yes” – to create a column before the cell and “No” – to create it after.
  2. Delete column – deletes the selected column from the pop-up layout.
  3. Add new row – adding a new line to the pop-up. Selecting the location of a new row is similar to selecting a cell to create a new column.
  4. Delete row – deletes the selected row of the pop-up.
  5. Clear cell – clears the selected cell of all data and settings.
  6. Edit font – select a font to fill cells.
  7. Border – select the color of the cell border lines, as well as their number. Here you can select the following options: “One cell” – if you want to change only one cell; “All cell” – all cells; “Selected Row” – selected row; “Selected Column” – selected column.
  8. Text color – select the color of the text in the cell.

  2. Decimals – select the number of decimal places after the decimal point that will be displayed for a particular statistical indicator.
  3. NoteCaddy Heat Map – binding NoteCaddy to a stat in a pop-up cell.

Adding a stat to a pop-up is done by dragging the desired stat from the stat selection field into the pop-up layout cell.

Please note that after creating a popup, you should link it to a specific stat in the Stat Appearance tab.

Chart Designer

This tab allows you to configure the Percentile ranking HUD chart.

At the tables, the diagram works according to the following principle: the central line displays the “optimal value” of the selected stat (the optimal values are taken for SH games). If the stat histogram is located to the left (below) the center line, then the player performs this action less often than the “optimal value”; if to the right (higher) – then more often.

To add this chart to your HUD, go to the HUD Designer tab and add the Ranking by Percentile stat from the “Charts” list.

The Chart Designer tab contains the following settings:

1. Graphic menu for setting chart parameters, consisting of options:

Horizontal Bars – horizontal chart view.

Bars from origin – vertical view of the chart.

2. Field for displaying the list of stats that will be displayed by the program.

Add Stat – adding a statistical indicator to the chart.

Remove – removes a statistical indicator from the chart.

Up – increasing the stat position.

Down – decrease in stat position.

Here we can also change the color of the chart for each of the stats and the abbreviation that will be displayed on the stat histogram.

Main Popup/Table HUD

This tab is designed to configure the parameters of the main pop-up window and the field in which the gaming table statistics will be displayed. The tab includes:

1. Settings elements for the main pop-up window.

2. Elements for setting up the display of game table stats.

The main popup window is called by left-clicking on the player’s stats field, provided that the Click for popup option is disabled on the “Config Properties” tab. The main pop-up includes a list of tabs that we can configure in the panel in question.

Adding available stats from the “Available” field to the “Visible” field is done by double-clicking the left mouse button or dragging using the arrow button.

The “Visible” field in the “Table HUD Stats” area contains elements that will be displayed in the stats field of the game table. Adding stats from the “Available” field is done according to the principle described above.

This field can display the following gaming table statistics:

  • VPIP – average percentage of VPIP.
  • PFR – average percentage of preflop raises.
  • Avg pot – average pot size.
  • 3-Bet – average percentage of preflop 3-bet.
  • Agg pct – average percentage of aggressiveness indicator.
  • Avg stack (BB) – average stack size in bb.
  • WTSD% is the average percentage of player income before showdown.
  • Flop CB – average percentage of continuation bets on the flop.
  • TOT Fold to 3-Bet – average percentage of folds to preflop 3-bet.

NoteCaddy Popups

This tab is necessary to link NoteCaddy stats to pop-up windows. The NoteCaddy add-on is purchased separately from HM2. The tab consists of the following elements:

  1. List of available pop-ups to which NoteCaddy stats can be linked.
  2. Controls.
  3. Field of NoteCaddy stats available for adding.

In order to add a NoteCaddy stat to a pop-up, you need to select the name of the required pop-up in field No. 1, and then by clicking the “Add” button, bind the desired NoteCaddy stat from field No. 3 to the pop-up.

HUD Filters

This tab is intended for setting up the HUD at cash tables. It consists of the following elements:

  1. Filter by number of players – setting up filters for displaying statistics depending on the number of players at the table.
  2. Filter by date/number of hands – a filter that determines the number of recent months for which HM2 should display statistics for a player/or hands.
  3. Filter by limits – filter for displaying stats regarding limits, which includes the following categories:

– Include hands from other limits – if this option is active, then the stats for the player are calculated based on the statistical data from all limits available in the database; if the option is deactivated, then only the hands of the limit that are played in the game are taken into account to display statistics. this moment.

– Mix Fast and Not-Fast hands together – the same as above, but for game types: “fast” and “standard” poker formats.

Let's look at setting the filter “Filter by number of players” in more detail. The “Number of Players” column indicates the number of people at the table at which the values of the “Min” and “Max” filters specified by us will be executed. In the “Min” column we indicate the value of the minimum number of players at the table to filter the selection of statistical data from the array of available information; in the “Max” column – maximum.

For example, the filter “Number of Players = 5”, “Min = 4”, “Max=6” means that if five players are currently playing at the table (players who received cards are taken into account), then the data sample for displaying stats will be produced from a dataset of games where four to six people played at a table.

You can often find the following distribution range: 2-3 players, 4-6 players, 7-10 players.

Tournament Filters

The HUD filters settings tab for tournaments consists of the following elements:

1. In this field we need to set the minimum and maximum stack size in the big blinds, according to which HM2 will display statistics on players. The principle is the same as on the previous tab.

2. If the option “Add VPIP/PFR stats based on stack size to main popup for tournaments” is active, then when you hover over the main tournament pop-up, a pop-up window will open in which the VPIP and PFR stats will be displayed in accordance with the stack ratio to the big blind.

HUD in Holdem Manager 2 – best helper when reading your opponent and calling a bluff.

So, a HUD is a tool that serves to display data about your opponents in real time.

All players who are going to make a profit from playing poker need information on their opponents: what kind of player he is, how often he plays and how he can be exploited. This is especially important if you play a large number of tables.

This is what the standard HUD looks like in HM 2:

HUD in HM2

What does hud show us?

In the standard version of HUD you receive information:

1. TOT VPIP(voluntarily deposited money into the bank) - an indicator that displays how often you or your opponent enters the bank.

Bets must be voluntary, so posting blinds does not count. There are no ideal values, some play more aggressively, some less, but both can play to their advantage.

Optimal values for 9-max tables are 15-25%. I advise everyone to have average indicators from the spectrum that I outlined. 19-21% VPIP will be very cool.

2. TOT PFR(preflop raise) – characterizes how often you or your opponent raises preflop.

This takes into account not only the open raise, but also the 3-bet and subsequent bet increases. Optimal values are from 10 to 20%. PFR and VPIP are two fundamental indicators in Holdem Manager 2 preflop. The difference between them should not exceed 6%.

If you want to add an indicator to your HUD that determines the frequency of open raises, it is called RFI (raise first).

3. Postflop Aggression Factor(aggression factor) – determines the player’s aggressiveness and is calculated using the following formula: (%bet + %raise) / %call.

Let's say your opponent has an aggression factor of 4.1 - that's a lot (your opponent is playing aggressively postflop). Try to play more carefully against him; at showdown he may not have the strongest hands. And if your opponent has an indicator of 1.6, then he plays much more calmly, without particularly accelerating the bank.

This tab is intended for creating windows (pop-ups) that pop up after hovering the cursor over stats. It consists of three main areas.

New popup – creating a new pop-up window. After clicking this button, we will be asked to enter the name of the new pop-up, and then it will appear in the list of all available pop-ups (area 2).

Area 3 will show a clean layout of our new pop-up.

Import 1.0 is an option whose purpose is to import pop-ups from the first version of HM.

Reset - button to restore the original settings for all primary pop-ups of the program. The pop-ups you create will not change.

Let's move on to consider the graphical controls located under the pop-up layout.

1. Add new column - option to add a new column to the pop-up window layout. To add a column, we need to select the cell after which we want to insert a new column. If the cell that we have selected is in the first column of the layout, then a window will appear asking whether to create a new column in front of this cell. “Yes” - to create a column before the cell and “No” - to create it after.

2. Delete column - deletes the selected column from the pop-up layout.

3. Add new row - adding a new line to the pop-up. Selecting the location of a new row is similar to selecting a cell to create a new column.

4. Delete row - deleting the selected row of the pop-up.

5. Clear cell - clears the selected cell from all data and settings.

6. Edit font – select the font to fill the cells.

7. Border – select the color of the cell border lines, as well as their number. Here you can select the following options: “One cell” - if you want to change only one cell; “All cell” - all cells; “Selected Row” - selected row; “Selected Column” - selected column.

8. Text color – select the color of the text in the cell.

9. Cell background – select the cell background.

Here we can also change the color that is assigned to a particular stat by default, as well as the abbreviation that will be displayed at the beginning of the stat histogram.

Main Popup/Table HUD

This tab is designed to configure the parameters of the main pop-up window and the field in which the gaming table statistics will be displayed. The tab consists of:

  1. Settings elements for the main pop-up window.
  2. Elements for customizing the display of game table stats.

The main popup window includes tabs with different windows. Through configuration, we can determine which of them should be output and which should not. The main popup window is called by left-clicking on the player's stats field, provided that the Click for popup option is disabled on the Congig Properties tab.

Adding available stats from the “Available” field to the “Visible” field is done by double-clicking the left mouse button or dragging using the arrow icon.

The “Visible” field in the “Table HUD Stats” area contains elements that will be displayed in the stats field of the game table. Adding stats from the “Available” field is done according to the principle described above.

Include hands from other limits - if this option is active, then the stats for the player are calculated based on the statistical data from all limits available in the database; if the option is deactivated, then only hands of the limit that is currently being played are taken into account for displaying statistics.

Mix Fast and Not-Fast hands together - the same as above, but for game types: “fast” and “standard” poker.

You should consider the “Filter by number of players” filter in more detail. The “Number of Players” column represents the number of people at the table at which the values of the “Min” and “Max” filters specified by us will be executed. In the “Min” column we indicate the value of the minimum number of players at the table to filter the selection of statistical data from the array of available information; in the “Max” column - maximum.
