Say what you want about Kanye West (and people do, by the way), but there's no denying that this is a man who takes inspiration from wherever he can find it.

His sixth studio album, Yeezus, features beats from British producers like Evian Christ and Hudson Mohawk. And it was recently revealed that one of the beats on his new LP, The Life Of Pablo, a track called Father Stretch My Hands Part 2, was actually based on a production by Adnan Khan aka Menace - a 22-year-old repairman mobile phones from Roshdale, North West England.

This was big news for Adnan when he found out about everything a couple of days before the release.

“One evening it was like a bomb exploded,” said Adnan Khan. - All these magazines, media outlets - everyone wanted to know who was behind this. Roshdale has only been the subject of media attention in recent times for unfortunate reasons, so I'm delighted to be bringing something positive to my town."

In the future, he said, he would like to hear something from Jay-Z on one of his tracks - within reason, of course, especially after it became known that he would perform with Kanye West at his G.O.O.D Music stable.

Here are some of his tips for those who want to get noticed.

1. Learn your craft

“I’ve been producing for ten years now, but it’s never gotten serious,” says Addie. “It’s only in the last few years that I’ve really gotten into it.” His favorite producers are Dr Dre and Scott Storch, a Long Island producer who makes beats for 50 Cent, The Game, T.I. and many others. Addie also learned to play the piano and instead of sampling, plays tunes of his own composition. “I don't use MPC or anything like that. All I have at my disposal is a computer, a keyboard and a synthesizer.”

2. Make your own website

Addie says he sold his first track a couple of years ago. “A guy contacted me on YouTube and said he wanted to buy a beat from me. So I got myself a PayPal account. On the same day I received payment and thought: I can make money from this!” Over time, Addy developed a detailed website that offers the purchase of his tracks in several options: from regular leasing (for 30 bucks you get a high-quality MP3 file, but the author retains all rights to the track) to exclusive sales (for 200 bucks you get wav file and unlimited commercial use). So far, Addy says he's sold "hundreds of beats," and one of his customers is the famous Meek Mill.

3. Create a name for yourself on social networks

Even in this age of the Internet, it is very important to actively engage in your own promotion. “It's really all about getting your name out there,” Addie says. His music did not reach Kaje West directly. Last year, rising Brooklyn rap star Desiigner surfed the Menace website and acquired exclusive rights to the beat, signing himself as Panda. When Desiigner went to Kanye's studio, he took the beat with him - and that's how it ended up with the famous artist.

4. Take care of publications

Track publishing is a complex and obscure part of the music business, but it plays a key role. Music publishers will place your track, solve all the complex issues with copyrights and bookkeeping, and make sure that you get your share of the money. However, if Addie sold his tracks in advance, he would not receive a penny for transferring the exclusive rights to the track. "I still have my rights to the track, it should make me some money," he says. Now he is in a strong enough position to negotiate with music business bigwigs: “I have good management, I have a good lawyer who monitors all the deals on my tracks.”

5. Work hard, diligently and conscientiously.

Well, it's true. Judge for yourself: now Addie still works as a mobile phone repairman. “But when I come home from work, I make beats... sometimes I do it all night long. Now my business has improved, I’m glad about it. I hope this will lead to me being able to dedicate all my time to music in the future.”

We answer all questions online.

How does the sale take place?

You upload only tagged instrumentals and demos to the service. After we have received payment from the client, our employee contacts you, clarifies all questions and transfers the payment per bit.

After this, our employee gives you the client’s email and you independently send him the finished instrumental.

Thanks to this approach, you do not risk anything: neither the transfer of your bit to third parties, nor its falling into the public domain.

How does the service benefit?

The service adds 10% of the agency fee to the price you specify. The client sees the price already with a 10% premium. Thanks to this, you receive payment for your bit in full.

How to download a beat?

To do this, you need to register in our service and log into your personal account.

Then you need to fill in your nickname and email. A nickname is required to display your beats in our system, and an email is required for purchase notifications.

After passing moderation (within an hour), the bit will be added to our system, and you will receive a notification by email.

What is the Bit Energy field?

This field is required for correct bit ranking. It represents the energy and atmosphere of the beat on a scale of 0 to 5.

For example: calm, classical music can be classified as 0, and vice versa - aggressive rock as 5.

What should I do if I don’t know the key of the backing track or its tempo?

Leave these fields empty, the system itself will determine the key of the backing track and its tempo.

Do I have a personal profile or page for my beat?

My profile is website/beatmaker/your_specified_nickname

Can I automatically publish my beats or profile on VK?

Yes, to do this you need to click on the VK icon in the “My Beats” section.

And so, good day. My name is Vlad and I have been making music since about 2010. During this time, I gained a small amount of experience. I warn you that it will not be particularly interesting for experienced beatmakers. So, we often come across “gansters” who book beats with us for a week, for two weeks, and when it comes time to pay, they start making typical excuses, as Negative said, “this one has an exam, that one is going to see his mother for a birthday party.” , then the beloved pig had a birthday and he spent money on holiday food, then he broke his nail and urgently needed a manicure, no, to bite the nail like a normal man and put an end to this problem - he goes and gets a manicure.
Ganster, how can he have no expenses? So, such kitchen gansters make reservations and don’t buy, and you sit and hope when these unfortunate 250 rubles will come to your wallet, you’ve already imagined how you’ll buy yourself monitors or a controller, or a gift for your beloved girl, with the money you set aside from the bits. And then you get screwed over like this, over and over again. How to prevent this? It’s all quite simple, and some people will find it very funny that an entire article is devoted to 2 words. These are the words - PAID RESERVATION.

It is not necessary to demand half of the cost of the bit, you can ask for a third or purely symbolically at least 50 rubles, if a person is really interested in the bit, then perhaps he will find 50 rubles! And if he made an advance payment and did not buy the bit, then you have already received at least 50 rubles and you are definitely in the black. If the “ganster” does not want to make an advance payment, then you directly warn him that with an advance payment you are holding the bit, and without it, the one who first paid for it takes the bit. For example, I had the following situation: one of my beats was armored, and I, being a decent person, kept the bit armored. But then I receive a message from another guy that he is ready to buy this bit today, but I told him that the bit is reserved, wait until the reservation goes down. As a result, the guy who booked the beat with me froze and Vladik was left with his nose. Now another disastrous experience regarding custom beats. Make a beat to order with advance payment, either partial or full. Since I also came across a “ganster” who swore to pay it right away, but in the end I ended up on the black list... These are the kind of clients I had, they cannot be avoided. But this article will help you dot all the i’s right away. For experienced beatmakers, this article will be funny, but sometimes vital, but for beginners it will be just the thing.

Conclusion:
1. Reservation is paid in a small amount of 3 of the cost of the bit.
2. Bits to order are also made on an advance payment basis.

Friends, first I want to say that a huge course with detailed analysis Instagram, as well as Facebook, are already half ready.
The information provided there will be as useful as possible for everyone, regardless of the level of sales. If you want to go out new level and start interacting with foreign artists and going beyond VKontakte, then this course is simply a must-have thing in your life.

Today we will talk about such a portal as https://www.fiverr.com
I don't just advertise portals and so on. I simply use trial and error to share with you all possible interesting and not so interesting ways of selling my beats. Perhaps someone will start spitting and declare that they are waiting for specific advice on the portal on how to earn money on beats, but then this sidekick has a place in the boys’ public pages on VKontakte and sending beats for respect.
If there is an opportunity to sell beats somewhere else besides everyone we know social networks like Vkontakte, Instagram, Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, I would also like to show you other options. I tested this portal the other day, and it is clearly not aimed at selling beats!
Yes, this is a platform more similar to message boards for all kinds of services. There are a lot of sections here, and people there post various offers, from drawing portraits to promoting your accounts on social networks. And they set their price for it, open an account, and also try to lure you into using its services with a small price. Prices here are often ridiculous and start from 5 bucks. I would have passed by this portal, but out of the corner of my eye I noticed the very popular beatmakers Fivestarbeats, who were previously often in the top on Airbit. They have now renamed themselves Pink Fader and are Grammy nominated. As you can see, no matter how cool you are, never miss the opportunity to earn extra money.

When I saw their account, I noticed that they posted 5 bits for 10 bucks mp3, and also added 5 wav bits for 20 bucks, And 5 bits trackouts for 50 bucks. What's the joke, it would seem? There's no catch here, Fiverr is a pretty popular site in Europe and is used by a lot of different creative and not so creative people. Accordingly, I started digging further and saw that Pink Fader were not alone here. There are a lot of beatmakers who post their beats here. Everyone's proposals are different, but the essence is approximately the same. A few bits in a pack, for a small amount of money.

After the transaction, buyers leave reviews, reviews here and play a decisive role in raising you in the ranking. And then I noticed that Faders has 290 reviews. Registered on the site in January 2017, that is, roughly speaking passive income from this site, if you take only mp3, according to reviews 2900$

And don’t tell me that bits are sold normally on VK. Get off your butt and work on your brand, gather a team and move forward, expand your capabilities. Even portals like fiverr can bring you decent money. I’m already silent that these 200 people could have taken trackouts for $50.
The point is that you are creating an advertisement, you don’t want to bother, copy my text from the advertisement or take it from the guys, redo it a little for yourself, formulate your proposal, add a video as an example of your sound, 3 audio tracks of your beats, photos, set a price for your services and keep working. At the beginning of October, I created an account, without a second thought I created an advertisement, everything is identical to FiveStars. And yesterday I received an email notification that someone had placed an order.
The procedure is as follows, everything works like on Ali Express, whoever ordered the goods there knows, the buyer, having read your offer, clicks “Buy”, the money is debited from his account and freezes, you receive a notification about the purchase, you must send it within the time you specified goods to the buyer. In my case it is 5 bits. Next, the buyer, having received the goods, confirms the transaction and the money is deposited into your account. For beatmakers whose PayPal does not work in the country, the site is ideal, because money can be withdrawn to a Payoneer bank card.

The number of sales is unlimited. You promote the account yourself, or you don’t promote it, but just wait for someone to search for it keywords bits.
The scheme is simple. And the trick is that you send the bits that you want to send. You ask the user to leave a review about the transaction, you yourself also write a review about how the transaction with the buyer went, and according to the reviews, your account will be displayed, as I understand above, plus the reviews will inspire more trust among new buyers.
The portal charged us a commission of $2 per transaction.
You can create as many advertisements as you want for different genres of beats, you can promote your mixing and mastering services, whatever.
If you have some free time, look through the site, maybe you’ll also try to upload your beats. As they say, the site doesn’t ask for food, so why not use an additional portal. Yes, 10 dollars is not such a large amount as we would like, but here you can just take it in quantity. Plus the site is free.
Anyone who found the information interesting, share it with your friends. I am sure that we still have thousands of beatmakers who are starting their journey and are faced with the issues of where and how to sell their beats. I am sure that my portal will soon be able to help a very large number of beatmakers.
