We continue our acquaintance with D-Link devices using the example of the DIR-620 router. In the case of resetting the settings on a D-Link router to factory settings, the instructions are also suitable for other models, such as D-Link DIR-300, 320, 615.
How to reset a D-Link router to factory settings?
In what cases can the factory reset function be useful? For example, when you change providers, it is always more convenient to delete old data in one step and enter everything from scratch.
- Login to the admin area at 192.168.0.1
- Go to the “System - Configuration” section
- Click on the “Factory settings” button

I decided to combine all the actions related to saving and resetting parameters in one chapter, since they are all located in one administrative section, which is called “Configuration” in the “System” menu
Before resetting the D-Link router, I want to warn you that all previously entered data will be erased and you will have to configure it from the factory settings!
In any of these cases, returning to the default settings of the D-Link router is carried out by holding the key down for a long time - 10-15 seconds until the indicators blink. In the combined version, WPS is called by a short press, and Reset by a long press.
Setting up the D-link DIR-615 has not yet been described in as much detail as this time. In this publication we will look at how to configure a fairly common router from D-link DIR-615. In the article I will refer, as an example, to the D-link DIR-615/A. But even if you have a router of a different brand, it doesn’t matter, since in many ways the settings are identical for everyone. Therefore, this manual is applicable to most D-link models. I will try to present everything in detail and in accessible language.
I won’t describe the features of the router itself for a long time; if necessary, you can read about DIR-615/A if you follow the link located a little higher. I will only note that this model copes well with its functions at home, or in not too large offices. With its help, uninterrupted Internet is provided to computers, tablets, and phones via a wireless connection.
In terms of setting up the D-link DIR-615, it is quite easy to do. Provided that your Internet provider uses the Dynamic IP connection method, then you just need to connect and turn on the router, and you will have access to the Internet. You just need to put a secret code on Wi-Fi and change the name, if necessary. The only thing that doesn’t suit me is that in almost all editions the settings of the D-link parameters, that is, the control panel, are changed (visually). Therefore, your router settings may look different from what is shown in this post. Although this is fixable, you just need to reflash it.
We proceed according to the following scheme:
- We connect the router and enter the D-link DIR-615 settings page.
- Setting up an Internet connection on the router
- We set up a wireless network and change the password combination.
Now let's look at each of the stages in more detail.
Connect D-link DIR-615 and go to settings
Turn on your router by first connecting it to a power source. If there are no lights in the foreground, the power button on the back may be turned off. In case the setting D-link DIR-615 will be done via a cable, find the power cord and connect the access point to the computer (the cable is sold as part of the router). We connect one side of the cord to LAN black connector (to the first of four), and connect the other to network adapter laptop or computer. The Internet cable should be inserted into WAN connector, which is painted yellow.
If there is no cord available or a computer with network card, you can make settings using wireless network. In this case, even a phone or tablet will do.

Then you should open the router control panel. But first, I recommend resetting all existing settings so that if they are set, they will not fail. Thus, we will configure our router “from scratch.”
Reset settings on D-link DIR-615
Resetting the settings is not at all difficult. To do this, take a sharp object and use it to press the button. RESET, which is slightly recessed into the system case, and wait a little. Then stop pressing and wait for the router to reboot.
Log in to any Internet login program and navigate to the Internet address 192.168.0.1. A window will pop up asking for your login and secret code. If you have not changed this data, then dial admin both lines and the control panel page of your router opens.
It may be that the settings there will be on English language, which can easily be changed to a more suitable and understandable one (Russian, Ukrainian).
A window may also pop up instructing you to change the initial password used to log into the D-link control panel. Then enter any cipher you came up with and repeat the same on the next line. And be sure to remember, or better yet, write it down, since you will need to enter it every time you enter the router settings.
I recommend that you immediately, before setting up, download a new software to your D-link. You can read in detail how to do this in this article . But you can configure it further without firmware, if, for example, it will be difficult for you to do this.
After entering the password, we went directly to the settings, now we can configure the router.
The sequence of the Internet setup process on the D-link DIR-615 router
- First of all, it is necessary find out what connection technology your provider uses. Active IP address, fixed, PPPoE (practices Dom.ru, and other Internet providers), L2TP (uses Beeline). In my articles I talked about how to find out the connection technology. It is possible to find out this information on the provider’s main website, or even call the company.
Provided that your Internet connection is made using the widely used Dynamic IP method, the router should distribute the signal as soon as a wire from the company that provides the Internet is connected to it. Then you will just need to make the wireless network settings (we’ll look at how to do this later). If you have a static IP address, then you will need to configure it.
- Find the tab Start— Click'n'Connect. Double-check your internet cable connection and select Further.
- Find the required connection from the list that appears. If, for example, your connection is PPPoE, and your Internet provider also provides IP in addition to this, then we choose PPPoE + Static IP. Provided that the IP address is not provided, then put the selection icon opposite PPPoE + Dynamic IP. We do the same if the connection is L2TP.
- Next, enter the IP address data if it is provided to you (otherwise this window will not appear). And press the button Further.
- Then the “Addresses of local resources of the provider” window may open. If you don’t know what this is, or you simply don’t want to enter additional addresses, then click Further. A window will pop up asking for the connection name and username, and to enter and confirm a password. This data is provided by your Internet service provider. In order to deposit more settings, go to the Details tab
Then a survey of Internet connections and the reality of connecting to Yandex selection will be carried out. But that's if you want. Still, these settings can be changed.
The settings were considered using the example of PPPoE for the D-link DIR-615 router. Your settings may vary.
If you set up an access point, but as a result there is no Internet, “no Internet access” is displayed, or there is no access to pages, then this problem is related to the settings from the provider company. Double-check, maybe you indicated the type of connection incorrectly, or some other data.
Therefore, connecting PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP and Dynamic IP is more complicated than using the Static IP connection method.
Very important! Provided that you previously accessed the Internet using high-speed data exchange, now you, in fact, do not need it. This Internet connection will be carried out by your router and only distributed over the wire and wireless network.
Change settings from the provider using the same Click’n’Connect, or by going to Net —WAN, while selecting and changing the required connection.
Provided that everything is in order and the Internet connection through the router is available, then we proceed to setting the wireless network parameters.
A clear example of setting up Wi-Fi and changing the password combination on D-link DIR-615
Now we just need to change the name of the wireless network and come up with a different secret code to secure the Wi-Fi connection.
Stand on Wi-Fi — Basic settings. Here you can change our name wireless connection. In line SSID enter the name of the network - Internet, and select Apply.
Next, open the menu WiFi — Security Settings, and in the line "PSK encryption key" Enter the code; you will then use it each time to connect to the Wi-Fi network. The secret password must contain at least 8 characters. Remember, or write it somewhere so you don’t forget later
The parameter settings you have made must be saved. System - Save. This may be the final stage of setting up the D-link DIR-615 router. If no settings

It is also possible to change the admin password, which must be used to enter the router settings. To do this you need to use the tab System - Administrator password.
Enter the code you created twice and select the button Apply. Be sure to save the steps you have taken.
Remember or make a note secret code, so that you don’t have to reset all the settings again, since without a password, logging into the router’s control panel will not be available.
The DIR 615 router model from Dlink has proven itself well in the computer equipment market. This router maintains a stable network and has the ability to connect via Wi-Fi. It makes it possible to protect almost all home computers while providing transparent communication between them. However, not everyone can immediately correctly configure everything they need. Let's try to check how simple the process of setting up the DIR-615 router is.
DIR-615: equipment
When purchasing such a device, you need to make sure that the initial package contains everything necessary for operation. Agree, it won’t be very pleasant to buy a router, bring it home and realize that you need another cable to connect, since when you turn on the DIR-615 for the first time, configuration is carried out only by network cable. Setting up via Wi-Fi will not work for the first time, since the network is disabled. However, the DIR-615 router comes with everything a user might need for the first connection - a cable for a computer, a pair of antennas, a power supply, the device itself and a disk with programs. Also included with the router is a whole bunch of paper documentation, warranties and instructions in Russian. The set also includes a special stand. Thus, the user will be able to place the router on its edge so that it takes up less space on the desktop.
DIR-615: connection to a computer
Connecting the DIR-615 router to a computer is quite simple. First you need to connect the antennas. They have the most ordinary carvings. After this, you need to remove the Internet cable from the computer and plug it into the wan socket on the DIR-615 router. The first connection must be set up via cable. There is a sticker next to the wan socket. Having unhooked it, the user will be able to find four identical ports behind it. Using a cable, you need to connect one of the ports to the PC. The ports are completely equivalent, so you can decide for yourself which one to choose. On the computer you need to plug the cable into the socket where the Internet used to be. Now you need to plug the power supply into the power connector. Everything you need for initial setup, ready. Now you need to plug the plug into the socket and wait until the router boots up. At the same time, if you have not done this before, at this stage you need to turn on the computer.
DIR-615: start of setup
So, we turned on the computer, the router, connected the cables, but there was still no Internet. We won't need it at first. You need instructions for the DIR-615 router. The instructions describe in sufficient detail the process of setting up the router. You need to turn the page to the Russian language and start setting up. First, you need to tell the router how to set up the Internet. To do this you need to use special settings, which were issued by the provider upon connection. If your Internet connection is via adsl-modem, then the setup process will be significantly simplified. Now you need to turn on the browser and enter the following combination of numbers in the address bar: 192.168.0.1. The router receives this address at the factory. It can be changed in the future. In the login window that appears, you must enter the required data. They are included in the instructions, but for this router they are quite ordinary: you must enter admin in both fields. Now press the Enter button to confirm. As a result, we will find ourselves on the main screen of DIR-615. All settings will be displayed here. You can set them up in the floor automatic mode, using the special buttons on the left, but a better option would be to check and perform all the settings yourself. In the lower right corner you need to click on the “Advanced settings” button, and then proceed to the step-by-step setup. The language is usually picked up correctly. However, if what you see is not Russian, you can fix this by clicking on the button on the far right.
DIR-615: Internet setup
It’s worth mentioning right away that if the Internet cable is connected to the modem, and not to the DIR-615 router, then the setup process will be significantly simplified. The difference is that if the Internet comes through a modem, then you can select a static or dynamic IP in the router. The rest should be picked up automatically. If there is no modem, then access to the network can be configured directly on the DIR-615 itself. To open the Internet settings, you must use the Wan link in the “Network” block in the new open window. Next, you need to follow the link and select the connection type. Most Internet providers use PPPoE. The connection type must be selected in the top field. Just below you set the port and name of the router. In order for your provider to recognize the router and allow it to access the network, sometimes you have to change the MAC. This can be done in the “Ethernet” section. If you connected the router to the same network outlet through which you logged into the network before, you need to click on the “clone MAC” button. In the PPP section, you must enter a username, password and set the MTU value to 1492. The provider provides this information when connecting. If the MTU value is higher than specified, certain network problems may occur. In the “Miscellaneous” block you need to check two boxes. Be sure to check “NAT”. It is also advisable to include " Firewall" It provides additional protection when working online. It's like a firewall built into your router. Now you need to save all the settings by clicking on “Apply”. The main work is done. You can open the same Yandex search engine in a new browser tab.
DIR-615: Wi-Fi setup
If you have a smartphone or laptop, you can access the Internet through a router. To do this, you need to return to the main DIR-615 settings window. Wi-Fi setup carried out in a block of the same name. Here you need to click on “ General settings" In the window that opens, click on the “Enable” button. After saving all changes, you need to return to the main window. After this, in the same block you need to click on the “Basic settings” link. Here you need to set the network name. After that, click “Change” again. That's all, actually. If you live in an apartment building and don’t want your neighbors to use your connection, you can protect it with a password. To do this, you need to go to “Security Settings”. Here you need to enter your password and click on the “Change” button. Now everyone who wants to connect to your network will have to provide this password. That's all that is needed for normal operation with the DIR-615 router. The setup is complete. Now we need to try to find new network on your smartphone or laptop and connect to it. You can put an end to this in the process of setting up the router. All that remains is to find a good place to install the router.

D-link: factory reset using the RESET button and through settings
You can clear all parameters either using a special button or through the router control panel.
Connect power to the router and find the button on the case RESET. There's not really a button there, but just a hole in the body. The button is recessed so that it is not accidentally pressed. Press this button with something sharp, hold for at least 10 seconds and let go.
Look at the indicators on the front panel. All should go out except POWER, and the router will reboot and the settings restored. If it doesn't work the first time, try again and hold the button for more than 10 seconds.
Restoring settings through the control panel
On D-link, as on other routers, you can clear all settings through the router settings page. If you have access to settings. If not, then use the method I wrote about above.
Often, in such complex equipment as a router, some internal software errors occur. As a result, the device simply stops working normally - it does not “distribute” the Internet or simply does not allow you to connect to it. Performing a manual reboot is required in emergency cases, when for some reason you cannot use the web interface.

Sometimes it happens that the entered settings lead to a serious software error during the operation of the router. Moreover, these settings are saved in volatile memory and do not allow a restart programmatically, because I can't log into the web interface. The manufacturer has provided for such a situation. It is for this case that there is a special reset button to standard settings.
To perform this operation you will need a long thin object. For example, an awl or a ballpoint pen.
When something like this is available, proceed as follows:
- take the device body in your hands and turn it towards you on the side where the LAN ports are located;
- Find the button recessed into the plastic - press it and hold for 10 seconds.
After completing this operation, the device will reboot. U this method there is one drawback - all previously entered settings will be erased.
Restarting the D-Link DIR 615 is quite simple. But you should remember that not all methods allow you to save settings entered by the user.
