Hello, friends! This is Andrey Khvostov, founder of the DohodSistemno.ru project. Today I’ll tell you about the volume mixer and where to find it.
Why did the sound disappear on my computer? Why does the sound disappear on my laptop? Perhaps the reason is that the volume icon or volume mixer has disappeared.

The sound mixer or sound icon is a volume control on the bottom horizontal bar, notification area, or system tray in Microsoft Windows.

Located to the left of the laptop battery charging icon. When connecting headphones, headsets, downloading programs that have a volume control function, or any other actions, the sound mixer disappears.

We are looking for it in its usual place, in the lower right corner, but it is not there. It's unpleasant, especially when you urgently need to change the sound volume.

I encountered this myself, so I decided to write this post. Next we will look at how to restore the volume icon.

Volume mixer

Getting the volume icon back is quite simple. If you don’t want to bother with the settings, then there is a proven clumsy method, which is not the easiest in this case - to restart the computer. When you restart the computer, the volume control will reappear and you can work with it.

If you don’t want to overload your computer, then right-click on the lower horizontal panel (tray) between the clock and the Internet access icon.

In the window that appears, click Properties.

The system icons window appears.

Opposite the Volume icon we see a volume on and off button. Click on it to turn up the Volume.

Now we should have a mixer on the tray. Also here you can enable the display of the clock, laptop battery power, and network operation.

If you need speaker and microphone settings, then this is also easy. Go to Start/Control Panel/Sound/Sounds. This is for the Windows 7 operating system.

This is how easy it is to do it. Often, because of such little things, we begin to get angry and nervous.

Look at the funny photo and smile.

I don’t know where this was made, but I observed something similar at the Prague Zoo. It was funny.

This is the photo.

I should write a post about curiosity.)))

P.S. I am attaching a screenshot of my earnings in affiliate programs. And I remind you that anyone can do this, even a beginner! The main thing is to do it correctly, which means learning from those who are already making money, that is, from Internet business professionals.

Why did the volume icon disappear on the Taskbar in Windows 7, you ask? I can’t give a specific answer, because firstly, I’m not a professional, and secondly, I think there can be quite a lot of reasons, from operating system failures and virus infections to conflicts between drivers and software.

But today’s article will not talk about the reasons for the loss of the volume control from the Taskbar, but about ways to return it to its place, because somehow you need to adjust the volume when listening to music or watching movies through headphones!

After all, many users are accustomed to controlling the volume level through this control. Today I will introduce you to several ways to solve this problem, at least one of which should help.

VOLUME ICON IS MISSING

. We repeat all the steps from the instructions “” and if it doesn’t help, move on to the second method.

2ND METHOD – CUSTOMIZING ICONS AND NOTIFICATIONS. Click on the arrow next to the notification area on the Taskbar and, if there is no volume control on the panel, click the “Customize...” link in the window.

We check whether the “Show icon and notifications” behavior is selected opposite the volume icon and if it is selected and the icon does not appear, then click on the “Turn on or off system icons” link.

Turn the switch to the “On” position opposite the “Volume” system icon and press the “OK” button.

If this did not lead us to the desired result, then we move on to the third option.

3rd METHOD – LOCAL GROUP POLICY EDITOR. In the search field of the Start button menu, look for the file “gpedit.msc” and run it.

Go to “User Configuration” – “Administrative Templates” – “Start Menu and Taskbar” and run “Hide Volume Control Icon”.

Check “Disable”, then “Apply” and “OK”.

Reboot the computer and if that doesn’t help, move on to the fourth method.

4TH METHOD – EDITING THE REGISTRY. In the search field of the Start button menu, look for “regedit.exe” and run it.

Let's go along the path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\LocalSettings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify

and delete the registry entries: “IconStreams” and “PastIconsStream”.

Restart Explorer (explorer.exe) as described in method 1 and additionally reboot the system. That's all! But, if the volume icon appears and then disappears again, I advise you to update your sound card drivers.

Thank you for your attention! Please leave your comments or questions in the comments to the instructions. I would be grateful if you don’t leave right away and take a look at any of our useful instructions and tips on this blog!

Anyone who uses the Windows operating system sometimes encounters such a problem that the sound icon disappears from the taskbar. It’s unpleasant, because now the sound cannot be adjusted without technical tricks. Before looking at ways to solve this problem, let's look at its causes. They may be as follows:

  • icon hidden;
  • the icon is disabled in the notification area;
  • there are problems with the taskbar;
  • the computer is infected with viruses;
  • the operating system is faulty.

There are five ways that will help you solve this problem and return the icon to its place.

Method No. 2

Must be enabled in the notification area. To do this, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to the menu "Properties" by right-clicking on the taskbar. A window will open with three tabs, but you only need the first one - "Task bar".

  2. In the tab you need, find "Notification area" and click on the button "Tune", which is on the right.

  3. Find the icon you need "Volume" and change its parameter to "Show icon and notification".

  4. If among the list of all icons there is not what you need, then it should be in the system icons menu, which can be activated by pressing the button "Turn system icons on or off".

Method No. 3

You need to restart explorer.exe. This system process, which is responsible for operating system interface elements, including the Start button, desktop, toolbar, and taskbar. To restart it, you need to do the following:

Method No. 4

Check your computer for malware. To do this, launch your antivirus and scan. After this process which may take from a few minutes to several hours, delete the infected files and restart your computer.

Method No. 5

Reinstall the OS. This is the most extreme method, which you should resort to only when none of the methods described above helped you.

One way or another, one of these methods will definitely help solve the problem with the volume icon. If you have any difficulties at any stage, re-read the instructions more carefully!

Video - The sound icon on the Windows panel has disappeared

The user faces various problems when constantly working at the computer. Whether it is a laptop, a computer or a netbook, it doesn’t matter. Today we will talk about a very interesting situation that can be found on different systems Windows, namely when the volume icon disappeared.

What to do in such a situation? First of all, we restart the computer, this usually helps to return the volume icon to its place.

If, as people say, it doesn’t work, then read on. The most common thing is to click on the tray tab and see if there is a volume control icon. If it is there, then we will configure its display on the taskbar.

Click on the tab, then select “Customize.”

A new window will open in which you find the same icon. Now select “Show icon and notifications” in the “Behavior” column.

Also just below this window, click “Turn system icons on or off.”

Make sure that these settings indicate: Volume – On. If you made any changes, click OK.

After which it should appear for you. You can also access these settings in another way: “Start” - “Control Panel”, set the viewing mode to “Large icons” or “Small icons” (this is done in the upper right corner of the window). Then we find the item “Notification area icons”.

Here you look for “Volume” and set the “Show icon and notifications” option opposite it. Then click “OK” and if nothing has changed, restart the computer, after which everything should appear.

Be sure to read the information if there is no sound on your computer.

Problem solving assistant

Well done Microsoft! They try to tell users when difficulties arise while working at the computer. Readers of my blog have more than once seen links to various fixes that help Windows users solve any errors that have arisen. To download the utility, follow the link.

After downloading, launch it. Click “I Accept”, thereby agreeing to the terms of use software. To get started Windows fixes, click Next.

We are waiting for the program to finish manipulating your Windows and creating restore points.

When the process is complete, you can click “Close”.

Check the volume icon for presence in the taskbar.

Editing the Registry

Above I talked about the situation if your system is not configured as needed. Next we will understand the problem itself.

For users who are on their own with a computer, I consider this method the most difficult, but it guarantees that the volume icon will return to 100% (if, of course, you perform all the steps on your computer).

Volume icon missing? No problem, we have a registry that will help you put the sound volume icon in its place. Go to “Start”, select “Run” - type regedit and press Enter. Then the Registry Editor opens. Now we need your attention, follow the following path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\

LocalSettings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify. In the right part of the window we find IconStreams by right-clicking on the parameter, selecting “Delete” - “Yes”. Then we do the same with PastIconsStream.

Exit the registry and restart the explorer.exe process (“Explorer”). To do this, we have to open the “Dispatcher” Windows tasks" This is done using the key combination “Ctrl” + “Shift” + “Esc”, then go to the “Processes” tab. We find explorer.exe there, right-click on it and in the drop-down menu boldly click “End process”. A message will appear in which we also click on the button of the same name.

Don't be alarmed, everything will disappear from your desktop. That's how it should be.

Please note that you do not need to close the dispatcher window, and if it is closed, simply launch it again. Now go to “File” - “New task (Run...)”.

Type explorer.exe and press Enter. We are happy because, firstly, all the desktop icons are back, and secondly, the volume icon has reappeared on the taskbar, as if it had never disappeared.

If nothing appears (in theory it should!), restart your computer. This method should be used only as a last resort, when nothing else helps, as you need to do it carefully! The registry is not a toy; if you delete the necessary parameters, the system may fail.

In this article I have provided examples for Windows 7, but for those using Windows XP, there is a very detailed article from Microsoft. Link to article.

If you have performed all the steps, but there is no result, then try restarting the computer after all the methods. Perhaps a reboot was not enough for Windows.

On this note I end my article.
