iOS has a great feature Restrictions(Settings->General->Restrictions). It allows you to impose restrictions on some iPad functionality. For example, you can prevent children from installing and uninstalling programs. To prevent smart children from correcting these settings themselves, there is a restriction password. But human memory is designed in such a way that we always forget everything. And it’s no wonder if the user forgets the restrictions password on the iPad (or iPhone, or iPod Touch).

Now we will look at how to change the restriction password in iOS 7 without jailbreak. The instructions for jailbroken devices differ in that all actions can be done in the iFile utility.

Please note that the password we will change so that you can access the function again restrictions and even remove the password and set a new one. Method restore lost or forgotten password does not exist.

Step 1. Turn off Find My iPad

Yes, in the future, after all the manipulations, this function can be turned on, but for this operation it will have to be turned off. Let's go to Settings->iCloud. Turn off the checkbox next to the item Find iPad.

You will be asked to enter your Apple ID password. Let's enter. The function is disabled.

Step 2. Back up your iPad

We connect the iPad to the computer and make a backup copy of the iPad in iTunes. We will need a current iPad backup in step 4, in which we will restore the device from it.

Step 3. Modify the backup

Download the program iBackupBot(it is shareware. You can download it from the official website of the developers). This program will help you get into Backup and modify one important file. Install the program.

We launch iBackupBot and wait until it recognizes all the backups made by iTunes (it took me a couple of minutes to process three backups). Let's go along the way.

Current_backup-> System Files -> HomeDomain -> Library -> Preferences. Finding the file com.apple.springboard.plist

We fit into it

SBParentalControlsPIN

1234

These two lines should be located between the tags And. The number 1234 shows the future restriction password. You can enter any four numbers here, which now you won’t forget! :)

Save the file and close it.

Close the iBackupBot program. She did her job.

Step 4. Recover iPad from backup copy

At this step, it remains to restore the iPad from a backup copy, which we slightly modified. Let's go to iTunes. And click the “Restore from copy” button.

Select the same copy that we made in step 2.

Recovery usually lasts several minutes. In iTunes we see this window:

On the iPad at this time this is the picture:

After iPad recovery will reboot. Let's go to Settings->General->Restrictions. In the password box, enter 1234 (the same numbers that you entered in step 3). Let's enjoy life, because now we can change the password or disable it altogether.

Note. You do all the above procedures at your own peril and risk. The last test of the described functionality was carried out on an iPad 2 with iOS 7.0.6 on board without jailbreak.

Password for iPhone limitations and the iPad is easy to forget - once you install it, you may not even remember its existence for a long time, exactly until the function you set the restriction on is no longer needed. In this guide, we will tell you what to do if you have forgotten your restrictions password on your iPhone or iPad.

If you forgot your iPhone or iPad restrictions password, then several key functions devices automatically become unavailable. The main thing is that all the functions for which you have set these same restrictions will refuse to work without a password. The secondary thing is that it will be impossible to reset the gadget’s settings, which, for example, is necessary before selling the device.

The procedure for resetting the restriction password on iPhone and iPad cannot be called very simple - it requires connecting the device to the computer and using special program. However, everything looks complicated only at first glance, and if you correctly follow all the steps in the instructions below, then you will not have any problems with resetting the restrictions password.

Step 1. Download free program iBackupBot

Step 2: Connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer and launch iTunes

Step 3: Create a new backup of your device by going to the gadget tab and clicking the “Back up now” button

Step 4: Install and launch iBackupBot

Step 5. Select in iBackupBot your device whose restrictions password you want to reset

Step 6. Using iBackupBot, find the file com.apple.springboard.plist, which is located along the path System Files/HomeDomain/Library/Preferences

Step 7: Double-click on the com.apple.springboard.plist file to enter edit mode

Step 8: At the end of the file, before the closing and and tags, paste the following code:

SBParentalControlsPIN 0000

Step 9. Save the file by clicking on the save icon or Ctrl + S (for Windows), then close the iBackupBot program

Not long ago, a curious incident happened to me, which any user should know about so as not to get into the same situation, or at least immediately know what to do if you have already found yourself.

When to reset your password

About a week ago I finally sold mine old phone– iPhone 5c. Naturally, this involved the need to reset the phone to factory settings. In order to do this, you need to go to Settings -> General -> Reset and then choose whether you want to reset everything or leave something. However, when I tried to do this, I ran into a problem: I needed to enter the restrictions password.

What is a restriction password?

Restrictions password is a special password that, at your choice, may be required when you try to install or uninstall an application (in case of accidental deletion), reset your smartphone (in case it is stolen, for example), and so on. You can enable it by going to Settings–> General–> Restrictions.

Harsh reality

It’s not hard to guess what happened to me: the password was set a long time ago and successfully forgotten due to its uselessness, and it was turned on precisely to protect against data reset. Since I didn’t have personal photos and videos on my phone, the buyer and I agreed that I would simply log out of all accounts and that’s it.

It would seem that everyone was happy, but the next morning a very unpleasant surprise awaited both of us: for some reason, the contacts in my new and old phones remained synchronized and the buyer, not knowing about it and thinking that he simply still had my contacts, began to methodically delete them and replace with your own.

As you might have guessed, what he did on his device was reflected on mine. Not immediately understanding what was happening, I began to do the same thing: delete his contacts and restore mine. Soon, I realized what was happening, although how the smartphones remained connected was never known. After calling the buyer, I told him that it was still necessary to reset the data so that any synchronization would definitely disappear.

In my case, the recipe was simple: I just needed to restore my phone from the latest backup. The buyer still faced the same problem: the restriction password. How to get around it will be discussed below.

How to bypass password restrictions

There are two ways to reset this password:

  • Restoring iPhone/iPad/iPod via iTunes, which will lead to complete erasing of data to factory state
  • Changing the password manually, in which all information remains

The buyer, of course, needed the first option, but there are cases when people set this password to install and uninstall applications, and then successfully forget it; they don’t want to lose data at all. This is where iBackupBot, which does not require jailbreak, comes to the rescue. With her help, everything will be incredibly simple.

Actually, instructions

  1. Using a USB cable, connect your i-device to a computer on which iTunes and iBackupBot are already installed, and then launch iTunes.
  2. Delete all backups made up to now. You can do this by going to Settings -> Devices. This procedure, of course, is optional, but it will prevent you from getting confused, both during the process and in case you need to restore the gadget.
  3. Create a new backup in iTunes so that if something goes wrong, it won’t be excruciatingly painful later
  4. Now, after taking precautions, start the process itself by launching the iBackupBot program.
  5. In the program there is only a copy created a minute ago, in which you need to find the file com.apple.springboard.plist, located at SystemFiles/HomeDomain/Library/Preferences. In case you can’t find it manually, the program has a search engine.
  6. Make a copy of the com.apple.springboard.plist file and save it ( right button mouse and select the desired line). Like point number 2, this action is optional, but it’s better to be on the safe side.
  7. Double-click on the file with the left mouse button, after which a window will appear in which you need to click “Cancel”, after which you can begin directly adjusting the restriction password.
  8. Find the closed tag, above which there will be the inscriptions CountryCode and ru (or ua) and paste your code under it. It may be that in your case there will be nothing similar, then scroll the file to the very bottom and insert your code before closing the tags And. Your code should look like this:
    SBPaternalControlsPIN
    1234
  9. Save the file you just edited and close iBackupBot.
  10. Open iTunes again and restore your gadget using the edited backup. To do this, select your device, go to the General tab -> Backups -> Restore from a copy.

The restoration will be followed by a reboot of the iPhone, iPad or iPod. Finally, you can check whether the plan worked: whether the password was reset. Go to the restrictions settings (the detailed path was indicated above) and enter New Password. If it fits, then everything is in order, and if not, then you did something wrong and then you need to go through the instructions again, but now more carefully.

An integral part of any Apple device is protection against use of the device by unauthorized persons. Latest iPhone versions are equipped with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor, which increases the level of security and speed of operation when unlocking several times.

But how can you disable the password on your iPhone or change it to a new one if you are afraid that you might forget it? Now we will tell you how to do this.

Removing a password using the standard method

Finding the location of the security controls in the iPhone is not difficult; to do this, you need to go to the “Settings” menu, in the window that opens, tap on the item “Passcode” or “Touch ID password” (if the device is equipped with a fingerprint scanner).

A settings submenu will open on the right, where you need to click on the “turn off passcode” line and enter the previously set password in the service window to confirm disabling the screen protection option.

In the future, the phone will be unlocked without entering the code, and to reinstall it, you need to do all the manipulations described above, only instead of the line “turn off password” there will be a field “enable”.

Cancel protection via iTunes (if the password has already been forgotten)

This method is suitable in cases where the password is forgotten:

  1. Launch iTunes utility on your computer and connect your iPhone via USB cable;
  2. Press and hold the “Home” and “ON” keys simultaneously for 10 seconds, then release “ON” and wait until iTunes appears on the smartphone screen, which will mean the device switches to DFU mode;
  3. The program will offer to perform a system restore, which must be confirmed with the appropriate button.

Attention! Since this manipulation involves filling in the iPhone new version operating system, then all files and data in the phone memory will be deleted. To recover lost content, you must have a backup.

Removing a lock via iCloud (if the password has already been forgotten)

Through a browser (for example, on a PC), log in to the iCloud website and log in using your Apple ID. Then you need to select the “ My Devices” tab and make sure that your iPhone is online in the menu that opens.

Now you need to tap on the name of the device and select “ erase iPhone” in the window that appears.

Please indicate again Apple password ID and wait for the reset procedure to complete. This way you will restore your phone “over the air”, which will entail not only resetting the screen lock code, but also deleting all content from the device’s memory.

Now, with your iPhone turned on again, sign in. account and create a new password or skip the last step to disable the blocking option.

Allows you to set a limit on the use of certain system functions, prohibits the use of certain programs for longer than the established mode, and introduces restrictions on visiting certain sites or services.

Screen time- this is a logical development of a feature called Restrictions, which existed on our devices before the release of iOS 12.

When you turn on screen time, a four-digit code is set; it will be required to make changes to the settings of this unit, to disable screen time, or to extend the established limit on the use of programs or games.

How to disable Screen Time without a password in Apple

If you forgot the password that is set when you turn it on, and now the feature prevents you from using the device normally, you will have to restore the firmware. There are no backup methods for resetting or changing your password.

Even the presence of Apple ID, mail, passwords and answers to security questions won't help in this case.

Apple suggests simply resetting the firmware via iTunes

After such an operation, of course, the password in the Screen Time section will disappear, but after data recovery from a backup copy (if it was already created with a password) the restriction will return to its place.

A wonderful feature that can be disabled only at the cost of losing all data on the device.

How to turn off Screen Time without noise and dust

It turns out that the password is simply stored in a backup copy of the device in an absolutely accessible form. No protection or encryption - just go in and take it.

A similar situation occurred with the password for the section Restrictions For previous versions iOS.

Enthusiasts with GitHub developed a simple terminal utility to retrieve the password from a system backup.

6. After a minute, the application will display a message telling you set password from Screen Time.

In the same way, you can find out the password for Restrictions in iOS 11 and older versions of the system.

For the especially sensitive and impressionable:

The utility is absolutely safe, it is posted on one of the largest portals where programmers and developers share their best practices and code examples.

Presented source utilities, any knowledgeable user can independently verify that the program does not collect user data and does not send anything to the network.

While the utility is running, you can completely disconnect from the network or turn it on to monitor network flows.

Unfortunately, this method can be used by children whose parents have set restrictions on the use of certain programs or time limits.

Apple needs to do something about this, but judging by the fact that the password has been stored in an unprotected form for a long time, they are not going to correct the situation.
