    INTRODUCTION

    Volkswagen's first compact crossover was presented to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2007. The sonorous name Tiguan, derived from a combination of the words tiger (tiger) and iguana (iguana), was chosen as a result of a public vote, which fueled interest in the model even before its appearance. Built on the Volkswagen Golf platform, the car received a very harmonious and attractive athletic appearance: a long hood line, straight A-pillars and wide wheel arches.

    Traditionally for a German manufacturer, the Tiguan interior is distinguished by its strict design, the quality of the materials used and workmanship, as well as high level ergonomics. A comfortable steering wheel and clear instruments with bright blue backlighting, a climate control system control unit, an entertainment and navigation center with touch screen, as well as buttons for power windows and a control panel for electric mirrors, located on the continuation of the parabolic door handle - everything is aimed at making driving the car as comfortable and convenient as possible.
    The Infotainment system combines the functions music center and navigation system. The active Touchscreen is used to control the system. Area maps and multimedia files are stored on a 30 gigabyte hard drive. There is an SD memory card slot through which you can load MP3 files. The innovative navigation system function comes in handy when driving in off-road conditions and in terrain for which there is no electronic cards. The device can store up to 500 intermediate route points in memory, so you can always find your way back. As additional equipment, you can order options such as a rear view camera and the Park Assist system, which itself determines the possible parking location and controls the rotation of the steering wheel.

    The rear seat has a longitudinal adjustment of 16 cm and a backrest with an adjustable angle of inclination, allowing to improve passenger comfort or increase the usable volume of the luggage compartment. In addition, the rear seat can be folded in parts in a 40:60 ratio, and some versions have a folding front passenger seat as standard equipment, making the interior easy to adapt for transporting long items.

    Tiguan is the first SUV in the world to be equipped with only turbocharged engines: 1.4 liter (150 hp) and 2.0 liter (170 hp and 200 hp, depending on depending on settings), as well as 2.0 liter TDI turbodiesels (140 hp or 170 hp, depending on settings). All power units are equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, and two-liter gasoline and diesel units can also be equipped with six-speed automatic transmissions.

    Volkswagen Tiguan is available in three trim levels: Trend&Fun, Sport&Style, Truck&Field. The first two configurations differ from the third in the shape of the front overhang. The road version of the car is designed for use in metropolitan conditions and has limited off-road capabilities, the maximum approach angle is limited to 18 degrees, while the Track&Field off-road version can conquer slopes at an angle of up to 28 degrees. In addition, Track&Field has reliable protection engine crankcase and allows the driver to enable a special Offroad mode with modified shock absorber settings, electronic differential locks and special assistance modes when descending a mountain or, conversely, when starting up a hill. Sport&Style, thanks to the settings of the suspension and shock absorbers, is aimed at sporty driving. Chrome grille crossbars, chrome roof rails and 17-in. wheel disks make the appearance more sporty.

    The car is equipped with a fourth generation Haldex clutch in the rear wheel drive. The peculiarity of the settings is that at the start the clutch is always closed, and then it “opens up”. In normal mode, 90% of the torque goes to the front wheels, but if they lose traction, all the traction can go to the rear. The EDS system simulates differential locking. Offroad mode is activated with one press of a button, launching a range of auxiliary electronic systems. Hill descent assist automatically controls your speed when driving downhill. Hill assist modifies the characteristics of the engine management system and prevents clutch wear. Changing the accelerator operating mode allows for more precise dosing of torque, and the operation of the ABS system is also optimized for off-road driving. The Tiguan's chassis is designed to successfully conquer roads of any surface.
    The basic equipment of the car includes front airbags, side airbags to protect the head and body, front seat belts with pretensioners and force limiters, a front seat belt warning device, and ISOFIX fastenings on the rear side seats. After a series of crash tests, the European organization Euro NCAP awarded Tiguan five stars for occupant protection and, based on the sum of ratings, allowed the model to take a leading position in safety in the compact crossover class.
    Since October 2009, the Tiguan compact crossover has been produced at the Russian plant in Kaluga through the full production cycle.

    In 2011, an updated version of the Tiguan was shown at the Geneva Motor Show. Only the headlights have changed in the appearance of the car - they now have a fashionable LED edging. Changes invisible at first glance include the appearance of various electronic systems, such as Lane Assist road marking monitoring, driver fatigue recognition, and electronic imitation of the XDS cross-axle differential lock. Some changes affected power units - by changing electronic settings In existing engines, it was possible to increase power, environmental friendliness and efficiency. As before, the model is offered in both “road” and “off-road” versions, differing in the shape of the front overhangs. In addition, a modification with an extended wheelbase Tiguan Plus has now become available to customers, the owners of which can choose between an additional row of seats and a larger luggage compartment.
    In the summer of 2011, assembly of the updated Tiguan began at production facilities Kaluga.
    Volkswagen Tiguan, which embodies best qualities golf class models and SUVs, is optimal choice for any motorist.
    This manual provides instructions for the operation and repair of all modifications of the Volkswagen Tiguan produced since 2007, including updates in 2011.

  • Emergency procedures for VW Tiguan. Replacing VW Tiguan fuses

    8. Replacing fuses

    Due to the fact that the car is constantly being improved and the purpose of the fuses is constantly changing, it is impossible to provide a reliable specification of the fuses in this manual. The location of the fuses can be obtained from a Volkswagen workshop.
    One fuse can protect the circuits of several electrical consumers. And vice versa: one consumer can have several fuses.
    Replace fuses only after eliminating the cause of their blown. If the new fuse quickly blows again, have the relevant electrical equipment checked by a workshop.
    ATTENTION
    There is high voltage in the electrical system!
    Do not touch the ignition system wires under any circumstances.
    Avoid short circuits in electrical equipment.
    Unsuitable fuses and wire inserts may cause a fire.
    New fuses must be rated for the same amperage as the blown ones (the color and markings must be identical).
    It is prohibited to replace fuses with pieces of wire, paper clips and other improvised means!
    Using high amperage fuses may cause damage elsewhere in the circuit.
    ATTENTION
    Protect exposed fuse boxes from dirt and moisture. Dirt and moisture in the fuse box can cause damage to electrical equipment.

    Note
    There are other fuses in the vehicle that are not mentioned in this chapter. They can only be replaced at a service station.

    Preparing for replacement

    Turn off the ignition and the corresponding electrical consumer.
    Open the appropriate fuse box.

    Recognizing blown fuses

    Blown fuse

    A blown fuse can be identified by a burnt-out metal wire.
    Shine a flashlight on the fuse. This will make the burnt area noticeably better.

    Replacing fuses

    Remove the plastic tweezers from the fuse box cover.

    Removing and installing the fuse

    Grab the small fuse from above (A).
    Grab the large fuse by sliding the tweezers to the side (B).
    Remove the blown fuse.
    Replace the blown fuse with a new one, designed for the same amperage (color and marking must be identical), of the same size.
    Replace the cover.
    ATTENTION
    Using high amperage fuses may cause damage to the electrical circuit elsewhere.

    The Volkswagen Tiguan crossover is one of the best-selling cars on the domestic car market, mass-produced by the Volkswagen A.G. concern. within 10 years. This is greatly facilitated by the fact that its production was mastered in Russia at the Kaluga automobile plant of the German concern (2016).

    Of course, this is not the only advantage of the car. The main ones are the notorious reliability and build quality of Volkswagen cars. After all, it was the Tiguan that was recognized as the safest crossover among SUV class models, which has been repeatedly confirmed by the results of crash tests:

    At the same time, operational safety modern car largely depends on the reliability of the on-board electrical network and electronic control systems connected to it.

    Volkswagen Tiguan fuses

    The reliability of the on-board electrical network and electrical appliances connected to it is ensured by a developed protection system that prevents the failure of its components due to short circuits, power surges, overloads, etc. Such a system is a set of fuse links, grouped according to functionality and located in different places of the car .

    Important! Tiguan developers are constantly working to improve it and quite often change both the purpose and location of individual fuses. In this regard, reliable information about where a particular fuse is located and which circuit it actually protects can only be obtained from service centers servicing cars of the Volkswagen A.G concern.

    The main fuses that protect the electrical circuits of the on-board electrical network of the Volkswagen Tiguan crossover are structurally located in:

    • engine compartment;
    • salon.

  • Switching block.
  • Underhood fuse block.
  • Fuse box in the dashboard.
  • Automatic fuse block.
  • Salon

    In the cabin under dashboard The Tiguan is equipped with a relay and fuse block that protects the main elements of the electrical circuit:

    A - thermal fuse that protects the electrical circuit for adjusting the driver's seat.

    B - control unit (CU) of the parking autopilot.

    C - control unit for on-board network control.

    D - Relay and fuse box 1.

    E - fuse block C.

    F - relay and fuse block 2.

    Most fuse links are installed in block C, which can be accessed by the driver in case it is necessary to replace a failed element. You can recognize a burnt insert by appearance, looking at her “in the light”:

    In order to gain access to the inserts of fuse block C, you need to:

    The nominal value of the current for which a particular insert is designed is encrypted by the color marking of its body:

    Depending on the year of manufacture of the car, inserts in block C protect different electrical circuits. For example, initially (since November 2007) their purpose corresponded to the table.

    In 2009, the purpose of a number of fuse links in block C changed (see table)

    In 2011, Volkswagen A.G. carried out restyling of Tiguan.

    After the restyling, the purpose of the inserts changed again (see table).

    In November 2011, Volkswagen Tuareg crossovers appeared on the car market with modified electrical diagram, the modernization of which led to the need for another change in the element protection system on-board network power supply (see table).

    With a few exceptions, the layout of the inserts in the block located in the Volkswagen Tiguan cabin corresponds to that shown in the figure.

    Engine compartment

    Under the hood of the Volkswagen Tiguan, the developers installed units containing inserts in close proximity to battery(on the right, when viewed from the front bumper). At the same time, both powerful power fuses and lower power fuse links are color coded depending on the rated current:

    • Color coding of power fuses (Block A):

    Case color

    Current strength, A

    Orange

    Brown

    Lilac

    • Color coding of lower power inserts (block B):

    Fuse body color

    Current strength, A

    Lilac

    Light brown

    Brown

    Light blue

    White (transparent)

    Light green

    Orange

    Switching block

    Depending on the year of manufacture, the following fuses were used in the switching unit of the Tiguan crossover to protect power electrical circuits:

    Since November 2008, the purpose of power fuses has changed slightly

    Location of fuses (SA) in the switching block from November 2008

    In May 2009, crossovers appeared in which the purpose of the switching unit elements once again changed:

    Important! For the first time, powerful fuses with multiple fuses were used in the Tiguan switching unit. Such elements, in the event of failure of at least one element, are replaced only as an assembly.

    This version of the switching unit was used in the Volkswagen Tiguan for two years, and then was replaced with a similar one, but without group fuses. Their location is shown in the table:

    Notes:

    The last time the power fuse switching unit on Tiguan crossovers was changed was in November 2011.

    Notes:

    1. Only for cars with a 1.4 liter petrol engine;

    2. Only for vehicles with 2.0L engine;

    3. Depending on the configuration.

    The location and purpose of lower power inserts in the Volkswagen Tiguan engine compartment fuse box has been changed several times (2009, 2011). Initially it was like this:

    Notes:

    3) depending on the configuration.

    In May 2009, Tiguan crossovers appeared on the market, the fuse blocks of which were amended:

    Notes:

    In May 2011, changes occurred again in the fuse block:

    Notes:

    Further changes in the layout of protective elements and the Tiguan electrical circuits that they protect can be found at certified stations Maintenance Volkswagen cars.

    During operation of the Tiguan, fuse links often fail. The absence of layout diagrams and information about the electrical circuits that they protect in the accompanying documentation greatly complicates the search for a faulty insert and the elimination of the defect. Most often, car owners are faced with the need to replace fusible links responsible for the operation of:

    • headlight washer;
    • cigarette lighter.
    Headlight washer fuses

    One of the typical failures in the operation of numerous systems of the Volkswagen Tiguan crossover is the failure of the headlight washer. This happens especially often in the cold season, when the washer pump jams due to freezing. In this case, the protective fuse-link, which is located in fuse block C (behind the secret drawer for small items in the crossover interior), burns out.

    Having reached the fuse box, you need to check insert No. 29, designed for a rated current of 15 A (case color is blue). If the fuse link fails, replace it with a serviceable one.

    Cigarette lighter fuses

    The fuse link that protects the electrical circuit of the cigarette lighter often fails. This is due to the fact that the cigarette lighter socket is used by many drivers for other purposes. Using this socket, you can connect various electronic devices to the car’s on-board network that help the driver navigate the situation on the road (navigators, parking sensors, car recorder, etc.). In this case, the cigarette lighter circuit may be overloaded and the fuse link may fail. The rating of the fuse link that protects the electrical circuit of the cigarette lighter is 20 A. The color of the body is yellow. It was located in fuse box C, which is located in the Tiguan's cabin and hidden behind a secret drawer for small items. Its cover is located under the lighting control knob.

    In Tiguan crossovers produced from 2007 to 2009, it was installed in seat number 30, and in subsequent models - seat number 31.

    You can find out how to find and replace a burnt-out fuse link yourself by watching the video:

    General rules for replacement

    Failure of fuses installed in the Volkswagen Tiguan crossover is usually caused by a malfunction of the electrical appliance whose circuit they protect. In this regard, it must be replaced only after the identified defect has been eliminated. At the same time, you need to remember that when working, high voltage is present in some crossover nodes, so it is advisable to follow the following safety rules:

    • do not touch the ignition system wires;
    • prevent the possibility of short circuits;
    • do not use repaired fuse links (“bugs”);
    • exclude the possibility of closing the contacts of the crossover electrical network without a fuse;
    • do not install foreign current-carrying objects (wire, coins, paper clips, etc.) in place of the burnt fuse-link;

    Important! It is prohibited to install fuse links whose rated current exceeds the established value for a specific electrical circuit. The use of such fuses may cause malfunctions elsewhere in the crossover's on-board electrical network and, in addition, contribute to a fire in the electrical wiring.

    In addition, after opening any fuse box of the Volkswagen Tiguan crossover, it must be protected from dust and dirt. Dirty contacts of sockets intended for installation of fuse links can cause failure of electrical equipment.

    Information! The electrical circuit of a particular electrical appliance can be protected by several fuse links. One fuse can protect the electrical circuits of several electrical appliances.

    Problems with the cigarette lighter on any car, not just the Volkswagen Tiguan, are equally unpleasant for owners, even if they do not smoke at all. This device is today used to connect additional electronic devices, such as a video recorder, Charger for telephone, car compressor and many others. Often it is their fault that failures occur.

    Why crashes happen

    Most often failures occur due to a blown fuse. Experts recommend checking the power supply to fuses numbered 28, 29, 31 and their condition. Some models may not have number 28. This unit is located in the cabin under the steering wheel. Also problematic may be fuse number 50 in block B, which is located in the engine compartment. It is designed for a current of 50 amperes.

    Please note that fuse numbers may not be used, depending on model range cars. If a problematic fuse is found, you should find out the reason for its blown, since if there is a short circuit in the circuit, then until it is eliminated, the fuse will blow. Also, look very carefully and remember where the fuse is removed from, there are many empty sockets in the block, it’s easy to confuse the installation location, and then more problems will arise.

    What else should you pay attention to?

    The biggest problem is when using a socket for connecting non-standard electronic equipment, especially a car compressor. Its inrush current may significantly exceed the fuse's rated limit and it will blow during startup. Therefore, it is recommended to connect the compressor directly to the battery terminals.

    Cases have been recorded where non-standard connectors of connected devices were the culprits of failures. When connecting these devices, it is possible that a short circuit inside the cigarette lighter socket may occur, resulting in a short circuit. If this does not resolve the problems, you will have to disassemble the cigarette lighter socket to check the condition of the wiring.

    As in any car, Volkswagen Tiguan fuses are designed to protect electrical equipment in the event of any malfunctions or emergency situations. When there is a power surge, the fuse blows and the circuit is broken, which means that the supply of electricity to the problem consumer is cut off.

    We immediately warn you that the company’s specialists are continuously working to improve the design of the 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan and very often change not only the purpose, but also the location of the fuses. Therefore, you can only find more reliable information in the manual that comes with the vehicle.

    Location and electrical diagram

    The interior fuse compartment is located very conveniently at the driver's feet behind the glove compartment.

    The engine compartment is located under the hood to the right of the battery.

    Removal and replacement process

    The fuses in the Volkswagen Tiguan 2013 are located in fairly accessible places and replacing them is not difficult. The burnt out element can change as follows.

    In the engine compartment
  • Opening the hood of the Tiguan 2013.
  • In the diagram we find which element is responsible for the non-working equipment.
  • Next, you need to slide the clamps and open the lid.
  • We find where it is located, as we assume it is burnt out.
  • We remove it using tweezers, which is located in one of the compartments.
  • We set a new one corresponding to the value of the one being replaced.
  • We turn on the consumer that was not working.
  • If everything is in order, close the lid and snap the latches.
  • If there are problems with the equipment again, then it is necessary to look for the reason in it and not use it until it is repaired.

    In the salon department
  • Having opened the door, we pull it back and gain access to the electrical fuses.
  • Based on the catalog, we find the burnt out element and replace it.
  • You can only exchange for one that matches the face value.
  • If the equipment is working normally, put the box in its original position.
  • One electrical fuse sometimes protects the circuits of two or even three energy consumers. And sometimes one consumer can be protected by several elements.
  • Replacement of a burnt-out can be carried out only after the cause of the burn-out has been identified and eliminated. If the electrical fuse blows again after replacement, then you need to check the consumer that it protects.
  • Before work, you must turn off the electrical system.
  • Do not touch the wires that go to the ignition; they may be under high voltage.
  • Do not short-circuit the electrical system, as this may cause a fire.
  • Bugs or protective elements of a higher rating may cause a fire.
  • It is necessary to replace only elements with the same nominal value as the ones that have burned out. Maintain consistency in color and markings.
  • Fuses that are designed for high current can damage the electrical circuit.
  • Keep dust and water out of the compartments. This may damage the electrical system.
  • As you can see, the work itself is not difficult, the only problem is determining the location of the required element. Its exact value can only be determined from the diagram that comes with the vehicle, since the design of the car changes very often and the arrangement of many elements can be changed accordingly.
