GENERAL INFORMATION

1. The Kedr-Auto charger is designed for charging 12-volt batteries. Charging time depends on the battery capacity and its level of discharge.

Important information for the car enthusiast who wants his battery to last a long time.

A common mistake made by car enthusiasts is that they start taking care of the battery when the car can no longer be started. It is known that in the urban driving cycle the starter is often used, and during short trips the generator does not have time to fully charge the battery.

Let's look at the chemistry of the process

When the battery discharges, a white coating of electrolyte deposits on the plates. This is a normal process (sulfation). And if you start charging the battery in a timely manner, it will be restored. But if we allow a deep discharge, the deposit crystallizes, and charging will not clean the battery plates, it will decrease sharply.

That is why it is necessary to recharge the battery almost daily. This means cleaning the plates and keeping the battery in perfect working condition, extending its uninterrupted service life for a long time. The Kedr-auto charger allows the car enthusiast to easily cope with this task.

2. The device provides an automatic transition to the low-current charging mode upon completion of charging in the “AUTOMATIC” mode.

3. The charger makes it possible to restore the battery (desulfation), for which the “CYCLE” mode is provided.

4. The Kedr-auto-10 device model provides a battery charging mode with an increased current of up to 10 A (pre-start mode). The pre-launch mode is provided thanks to the microprocessor that the Kedr AUTO 10 charger is equipped with. To activate it, you just need to press the “Automatic” button intended for this. After that automatic system the charger supplies increased current. This mode is indispensable in cases where you need to charge the battery as quickly as possible.

5. The device has light indicators corresponding to operating modes.

6. The device has reliable protection from overload, incorrect connection and short circuit of the battery cord terminals.

ATTENTION! If the battery is completely discharged, you must remove the battery terminals. After 30 min. connect the charger.

ATTENTION! The device only works in conjunction with a battery. The light bulb connected to the battery cord terminals will not light up.

OPERATING PROCEDURE

All work to disconnect or connect the battery to the device must be carried out with the mains voltage turned off.

Before you start charging, you need to make sure that your battery needs recharging and is in good condition. To do this, you need to measure the voltage at the terminals. Maximum in winter permissible level discharge is no more than 25% of the nominal value, and in summer - no more than 50%. If the voltmeter shows lower values, then the battery needs charging.

1. Remove the device from the packaging container.

2. Connect the charger clamps to the battery terminals, observing polarity. At the same time, the “AUTOMATIC” indicator light comes on.

3. Connect the power cord plug to an AC mains voltage of 220 V.

4. You can verify that the charging process has begun using the dial current indicator, which should show a current of 5±1A.

5. Operating mode “AUTOMATIC”

When the device is plugged in, the device begins charging the battery automatically with a stabilized current of 5±1A. Upon completion of charging, the device automatically switches to low current charging mode - the charging current is reduced to a minimum value.

6. Pre-launch mode (only for the Kedr-auto-10 model)

The mode is activated by pressing the “AUTOMATIC” button again. The device begins to operate in pre-start charging mode with an increased current of up to 10 A for 5 minutes, after which it switches to automatic continuous charging mode.

7. Work in “CYCLE” mode

The “CYCLE” mode allows you to carry out the battery recovery process (desulfation).

If the battery is significantly sulfated, it is advisable to charge it in the “CYCLE” mode continuously for 3-5 days.

The desulfation process in the “CYCLE” mode will be more effective if it is carried out with a load with a current consumption of 0.5-1 A connected to the battery terminals, for example, a 6-12 W car light bulb.

Turns on by pressing the “CYCLE” button. In this mode, the charger will periodically turn on and off (45/15 seconds)

Hello, friends! Continuing the automotive theme, today we will talk about the Kedr Auto 5 car charger.

Every car owner must have a charger at his disposal. From time to time, we all need to recharge our car battery. Therefore, sooner or later, the car owner is faced with the choice of purchasing one or another car charger. We want it to be inexpensive, compact, reliable, small-sized, and yet powerful enough. Kedr Auto 5 meets all these requirements.

Two years ago I already talked about a car charger that has proven itself with the best side. Today we will deal with internal device Charging Kedr Auto 5:

As you can see, there are not many controls located on the front panel. On the left side there is an ammeter, which can be used to monitor the strength of the charging current. WITH right side two buttons. Automatic button, and cycle button, with two LEDs. As you have already noticed, the device does not have a regulator responsible for regulating the charging current. On the one hand, this is an advantage, since you don’t need to rack your brains about what current should be set to charge the battery. Perhaps for some it will be just a godsend. But I prefer to have a regulator with which I can set the charging current that I need for a specific battery. From the name of the charger itself, it is clear that it can provide the battery with a current not exceeding 5 amperes, which in principle is sufficient to charge a conventional 55 ampere battery. But if you have a battery with a larger capacity, then this charge will not charge the battery much longer, since the charging current must be set to approximately one tenth of the battery capacity, so Kedr Auto 5 cannot produce more than 5 amperes:

This charging is carried out in Russia, in the city of Tomsk. This particular copy was produced in 2010, as evidenced by the sticker on the back of the device, as well as the stamp on the main board, but more on that later:

The power cords are located on the back of the device. Unlike the Orion PW325, the Kedr Auto 5 charger does not have a niche for laying wires and there is also no cooling fan, since the device is low-power. But the wires look better:

Let's see what's inside. Opening the lid, we see a lot of free space. Since the charger is built according to a transformer-free circuit, that is, it has pulse block nutrition. There are two boards inside, one is the charger itself, and the second, which is located on the front panel, is the board for selecting charging operating modes. The self-tapping screw that was used to fasten the cooling radiator to the semiconductor device immediately caught my eye. Although this cannot be called a radiator, it is just a piece of a metal plate, or rather it will be a heat sink. It’s strange that the factory didn’t have an M3 bolt, although it’s certainly easier to screw it on with a self-tapping screw:

On the ammeter we see a shunt, which is made of a piece of copper wire twisted into four rings:

Before we look at the device in more detail, let's turn to the circuit diagram of the Kedr Auto5 charger.

Kedr Auto 5 scheme

I copied the circuit itself directly from the charging itself, so there may be some inaccuracies. Although I checked it several times, I hope that I did not make any fatal mistakes. To make it easier to understand the components, I divided the entire circuit into two parts, one of which is the control board. Well, in fact, it is so. It is connected to the main board by three wires: red, black, yellow, they are labeled in the diagram:

Please note that the power supply constantly produces 14.9 volts at the output, and switching of all modes occurs using a field-effect transistor VT2, which in turn is controlled using a control board built on the ATTINY26L-85U chip:

The charger has only 2 modes. Using the automatic mode, the battery is charged to a voltage of 14.9 volts, and then the current sharply drops to a very small value and is maintained in this state indefinitely, while distilled water does not boil away from the battery. Using the second mode, the so-called “pre-charging” of the battery and the desulfation mode are organized. In this mode, the charging current is periodically turned on and then turned off at intervals of 45/15 seconds. In this case, the manufacturer recommends connecting a small 12 volt light bulb with a power of 6-12 watts to the battery terminals. You can learn more about the operation of the Kedr Auto 5 charger by downloading the instructions for use at the end of the article:

The LED located above its button indicates which mode is currently in use:

The control board is powered using a stabilized voltage, which is supplied through KR142EN5A:

The main board of the Kedr Auto 5 charger looks like this:

As you can see, in the upper right corner there is a stamp indicating the production date of 2010.

Since the board uses SMD mounting, the layout of the radio components is quite dense. Rectifier dual Schottky diode VD3, VD4 and power field-effect transistor VT1 are located on the heat sink. Switching transistor VT2 does not have a heat sink, since its internal resistance is low:

To maintain a constant voltage of 14.9 volts, a controlled zener diode TL431 and an optocoupler are used, with the help of which the low-voltage part is galvanically isolated from the high-voltage part of the charger:

Cedar auto 5 instructions for use

The charger in question has some features of its operation. First of all, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that this charger cannot charge a completely discharged battery. The fact is that if the voltage on the battery drops below 8 Volts, then the charger using the VT2 transistor cannot be connected to the battery. Therefore, you should remember this and avoid deep discharges of the battery. According to the manufacturer, this is not a malfunction of the device. Another inconvenience arises from this feature. The fact is that you cannot connect, say, a simple incandescent light bulb to a charger; it will not light up. That is, the device cannot be used as a power source, unlike the Orion PW325. To study the device in more detail, see the instructions:

As I mentioned above, the charger has some features. In the process of studying this device, I discovered that if the drain-source of transistor VT2 is short-circuited, the transistor opens and remains in open position. A voltage of 14.9 Volts appears on the plus and minus crocodiles of the charger. Who needs this, you can display a separate button without locking, and use this button to force the charger to turn on. Thus, it will be possible to charge a completely discharged battery, and it will also be possible to use the Kedr charger as a power source.

This is where I will conclude my review of the Kedr Auto 5 charger. I hope my story, and circuit diagram charger will help you with repairs. Bye everyone.

Thanks to scientific minds, the technology for producing various technical assistants for a comfortable life is constantly evolving. More and more new types of batteries are being produced that need constant recharging. And we are forced to purchase our own charger for each type of battery. To get out of this vicious circle, we advise you to pay your attention to the development of Russian scientists - charger "Kedr-auto-5".

This is the undisputed leader among chargers for 12-volt lead-acid batteries with an operating capacity of 14 and 190 ampere-hours. Another thing that helped instantly win over Russian consumers was that the Kedr-Avto-5 charger is very easy to use and significantly extends the life of your battery due to several different charging modes. The built-in microprocessor of the charger automatically selects the optimal charging option and reduces all power current fluctuations to a practical minimum.

The undeniable advantage of the Kedr-auto-5 charger is its completely silent operation, the small dimensions of the device and its light weight, as well as the fact that there is no gas or sparking during charging.

Unique technology of the Kedr-auto-5 charger

All of the above advantages of Cedar are possible thanks to the unique technology developed by Russian scientists. It allows you to achieve maximum performance and minimal deviation in current and voltage in charging. If, at the moment of replenishing energy in the battery, the mains voltage drops to 100 Volts, then charging will not stop - the Kedr charger will continue the process, and the output voltage will remain the same.

The entire charging process is fully controlled by a built-in microprocessor, which, at a constant current value, minimizes overheating of the battery, which significantly extends the battery life and does not harm on-board computer car.

There is another undeniable advantage for car enthusiasts - this is “smart” charging. Most chargers stop the charging process only when the power supply is disconnected or the battery is disconnected. After finishing charging, Cedar automatically switches to pre-charging mode. This way, you will always have a 100% charged battery, even during long-term storage.

Such wise brains of the device are enclosed in a body made of impact-resistant high-quality plastic. On Kedr-auto-5, all output contacts are carefully protected from polarity reversal and short circuit. The insulation resistance of the product is stated to be 4 kV. The weight of the product does not exceed 600 grams.

The compactness and lightness of the Kedr-auto-5 charger allows you to take it with you on a long journey or a family trip.
