Imagine the following picture: we take a laptop on a modern mobile platform and, in turn, cut off the display, keyboard and battery from it. We place the remaining filling in a compact case. The result is a mini-PC, which, despite its small size, has all the capabilities of its older brothers. What is the name of this computer? Kraftway Urban KU23.

The external reflects the internal

The appearance of the Urban KU23 is simply remarkable: a neat black box slightly larger than an external DVD drive. There is no shame in putting such a system unit in the living room. The surface of the case is glossy, you should move it by holding the side inserts, otherwise you will not end up with stains. On the front side there are: a power button, a card reader, a USB port, a hole for loading a disc and an eject button.

Urban is based on a mobile platform Intel Centrino. Processor used Core 2 Duo T5600 operates at a frequency of 1.83 GHz, random access memory- 2 GB, which is a standard by today's standards. The integrated graphics core completes the picture. Intel GMA 950, the capabilities of which are clearly not enough for modern games, but for the installed Windows Vista Home Premium Enough with your head.

Built-in volume hard drive- 120 GB. For an impressive collection of films and music, this is not enough; in such a case, you can attach an external HDD from Western Digital or Seagate. Both manufacturers have black models - they will complement each other perfectly.

Of course, call it Urban KU23 gaming platform The tongue does not turn. However, it will play hits from two or three years ago and the most popular things like World of Warcraft. However, its main role- the role of a compact media center - the computer works 100%.

Kraftway Urban KU23 is a stylish and multifunctional PC, as well as a clear example of the successful implementation of an interesting idea.

We thank the companyKraftway (www.kraftway.ru) for the computer provided for testing.

Last year we talked about the previous generation of Kraftway Credo VV23 nettops. With the update of the line, the general concept of the device has not changed: the modern VV25 model is still packaged in a compact but durable metal case, which is also a radiator. The nettop is absolutely silent, although the structure of the cooling system has changed a little - now there are no heat pipes, and the processor, as the only essentially hot element of the system, transfers heat to a massive aluminum cylinder, which, in turn, dissipates it on the surface of one of the ribbed side covers of the housing.

The nettop no longer uses Atom, but a very good fresh one Intel Celeron N2930 with four cores operating at 1.83 GHz, a two-megabyte L2 cache and integrated Intel HD Graphics. This, in general, is not just a CPU, but quite an SoC - there are memory controllers, PCI-E, USB, SATA-II. The motherboard in Kraftway Credo VV25 is slightly smaller standard format Mini-ITX. Nevertheless, it has two SO-DIMM slots, into which you can install a total of up to 8 GB of DDR3L-1333 memory. We got just such a configuration. In addition, the manufacturer has abandoned the use of conventional hard drives, and new PCs are equipped with SSDs up to 512 GB. The test unit had a 120 GB Foxline FLSSD120X3 drive installed.

In general, the configuration turns out to be balanced, although it does not imply any significant upgrade. However, the board has two Mini PCI-E slots into which you can insert, for example, a wireless module. By default it is not there, which is quite logical from a security point of view, but there is a hole on the case with a plug into which the antenna can be output. As before, the nettop has an optical network adapter. In our configuration it was multimode D-Link module DEM-211 at 100 Mbit/s. The advantage of this connection is better protection against hidden eavesdropping and a longer operating range compared to a conventional LAN connection. However, the device also has a built-in Realtek gigabit Ethernet adapter. Kraftway Credo VV25 is powered by a small external power supply with a power of 36 watts.

Kit external interfaces expanded significantly. There are as many as six USB 2.0 ports exposed - four in the back and two in the front. There are also various indicators on the front panel, one USB port 3.0 and the usual smart card reader ISO standard 7816 Class A/B/C, due to which the built-in protection system works, which we will talk about below. The rear wall has 3.5 mm audio jacks for connecting speakers and a microphone, a power socket and two HDMI ports. The presence of at least one D-SUB or DVI video output would have made the nettop even more attractive, but, alas, the manufacturer decided otherwise. On the back wall there is also a slot for installing an SFP module with its own activity indicators.

In general, the filling of the Kraftway Credo VV25, in our opinion, is perfectly balanced and is excellent for office tasks, for which the nettop is designed. The device body is painted black. It is supposed to rest on the table, as indicated by the rubber feet on the bottom. Although, I think, if you really want to, it can still be attached to the back wall of the monitor. Perhaps the only thing missing is a slot for a Kensington lock. The process of assembling and disassembling the device cannot be called completely simple, but in this case this is only a plus, because, for example, to initialize or reset the protection system, you still have to climb inside the case. So unnecessary obstacles in the way of a potential attacker will not hurt. Yes, this is how harsh it is, the world of secure systems. Let's tell you more about him.

⇡ Security

When turning on the computer, the first thing the user will see on the screen is not the usual POST report on the performance of the device components, but a report on checking the system with Kaspersky Anti-Virus for UEFI. Yes, UEFI allows you not only to simplify work with your PC even before loading the OS, but also to protect the latter from third-party interference. As a matter of fact, UEFI is not simple here either - the mini-computer uses its own Kraftway Secure Shell (KSS), which is equipped with various security modules, and antivirus is just one of them. Kraftway has own modules, but third-party developers can also integrate their solutions into UEFI. Once again, it is worth emphasizing that all this works at the very “lowest” level. The manufacturer states that you can bypass the system only by receiving physical access to the insides of the PC and flashing the BIOS.

In the test instance, in addition to the antivirus, which checks boot areas, the bootloader and OS kernel, critical system files/folders and application components, as well as the registry, there were other modules. Immediately after checking for malware, the protection module is activated file system. It checks hash sums of files pre-selected by the administrator and can work with FAT16/32, NTFS and EXT 2/3/4 file systems. Modules for monitoring logical drives on a drive and the integrity of equipment work in a similar way. In addition, KSS has its own hypervisor built in, and any actions are recorded in a log. If at any stage of the check a violation of the integrity of the system is detected, its loading is immediately stopped. In this way, the possibilities of unauthorized access to the system are limited as much as possible.

The KSS shell itself also has a number of standard security settings, such as disabling booting from external drives, checking its own integrity, time limits for entering the shell, and so on. It also integrates with the Kraftway security server Security Center For remote configuration PC, inventory, advanced authentication settings, access control and many other functions to simplify work with a fleet of machines without compromising their protection. Finally, the most important and most important part of the shell is the Krypton-Vityaz hardware-software trusted boot module (APMDZ). It starts after system checks by antivirus and FS and hardware integrity modules. The module's tasks include procedures for identifying, authenticating and authorizing users.

Users are identified using a smart card, they are authenticated using their password, and then the user is authorized in accordance with the role model. There are three levels of access. The first is the level system administrator, which configures and initializes the APMDZ. To turn it on, you need to move the switches located on motherboard, to a certain position. Only after this can you initialize the security module and create a system administrator profile that has full access and to APMDZ, and to all other system settings. The second and third access levels are, respectively, administrators and regular users. Administrators can also separate permissions to access certain sections of the settings.

In any case, without a smart card and password pre-registered with Krypton-Vityaz, it will be impossible, let alone change BIOS settings or Kraftway Secure Shell, but also just download the OS. Naturally, all sorts of standard security measures are applied here - limited password validity, a limit on the number of login attempts for a specific user or all users at once, setting a minimum password length, logging, monitoring OS loading, and so on. Separately, it is worth noting that Kraftway Credo VV25 is one of the few similar solutions that has been certified by FSTEC and is being certified by the FSB of Russia. In addition to the above modules, other extensions are available within the KSS platform for creating secure storage, creating secure network connections, identification and authentication and so on.

⇡ Performance

In the PCMark 7 Basic benchmark, the Kraftway Credo VV25 scored more than three times more points than its predecessor VV23 - as much as . The new product received points in GeekBench 3. The performance is more than enough for an office machine, because now it is no longer a thin client, but a good work computer. Of course, you won’t be able to play games, but there will definitely be no problems with simple image processing, and even more so with working with documentation. Absolute noiselessness was already mentioned at the very beginning. It is worth adding that during operation, even under heavy load, the body of the device, or rather its top cover, which is a heatsink for the CPU, heated up slightly. In general, progress is obvious.

Test

⇡ Conclusion

Kraftway Credo VV25 is a significant step forward for Kraftway in creating secure computers. Firstly, the performance of the platform has increased significantly. Now this is not just a terminal station, but a completely modern office computer for working with important documentation. Secondly, the security system has also undergone updates and improvements. The most interesting thing is, of course, the built-in UEFI-level antivirus and the trusted boot hardware and software module. Both allow you to reliably protect your PC from penetration. Of course, we shouldn’t forget about OS-level security measures, the distribution of rights when working with documents, and other security measures. Thirdly, Kraftway Credo VV25 inherited key advantages from previous generations - compactness, noiselessness and strength. Overall, the creators have created a completely modern and reliable secure platform. Naturally, it’s not the cheapest, in the opinion of the average person, but there’s no getting around it - you always have to pay for the safety of critical data. The recommended price for the PC configuration we tested is 23,000 rubles. The cost of a finished PC depends on both the components and the selected security modules.

Management

According to the FAS, Kraftway Corporation PLC (Kraftway), Adaptive Technologies, Express + Service and the Research Institute of New Technologies (NII NT) entered into an anti-competitive agreement to maintain prices at auctions. In 2016, Kraftway gained control of the companies Adaptive Technologies and Express + Service.

The antimonopoly authority discovered a minimal decrease in the initial price of government contracts, as well as several cases when, after the end of the auctions, the winner bought computer equipment from the “losing” participant at a lower price and resold it to the customer.

To participate in the auction, the companies used the same IP addresses and email addresses. The General Director of Adaptive Technologies used email address, whose email domain belongs to Kraftway. Kraftway also provided security for other companies to participate in the auction.

In total, as part of the conspiracy, the companies held 17 auctions and sold IT solutions worth 2.3 billion rubles to government agencies. The FAS reported that three of the four companies admitted their guilt in order to mitigate liability. The department does not name their names.

FAS opened a second cartel case against Kraftway

The FAS explained to TAdviser that in January a second case was initiated against Craftway Corporation PLC. In the first case, the company is suspected of participating in an anti-competitive agreement at an electronic auction for the supply of equipment for the State Automated System “Vybory”. In the second case, we are talking about participation in an agreement that could lead to an increase, decrease or maintenance of prices at auction, a representative of the antimonopoly service told TAdviser.

A representative of Craftway told TAdviser that he would comment on the situation later.
