CDR— vector graphic format, associated with the popular graphics editing program: Corel Draw. CDR is also compatible with several other programs that run on Mac OS, Windows and Linux. Mainly used for creating and editing digital graphic files.

Format PNG was developed as an improved alternative to the previously created JPG and GIF formats. PNG gained widespread popularity and was highly regarded due to its ability to provide good data compression without loss of quality and support for an alpha channel, which opens up a wide range of possibilities for creating effects.

Professional users can convert CDR to PNG using

The PNG format has replaced GIF format and has certain advantages over it. This is full support for alpha-transparency, which will make certain areas translucent; new algorithm lossless compression; the possibility of interlaced scanning simultaneously both vertically and horizontally (which was not in GIF) and built-in gamma correction. In addition, if you use this format for large-sized images, then the size compressed file it gives JPEG a head start. There are two versions of the format: PNG-8 (uses index colors, like GIF) and PNG-24 (full color palette, like JPEG).

Let's look at how to make a transparent PNG-8 in Corel Draw. Select the desired object and call the optimization window (menu File>Publish To The Web>Web Image Optimizer).

If the object is not selected, then the entire page with all the objects located on it will appear in the optimization window. In the window that opens, we see two viewing sections. If necessary, you can make four of them by clicking the buttons in the upper right part of the window.

In each section under the picture there are two drop-down lists. On the left you can select the format of the saved file, on the right - ready-made templates for optimization. For each section you can choose your own templates. The optimization results of the selected section - it will be circled in red (in the figure on the right) will be saved to a file when you click OK.
Move the image if necessary, especially when high magnification, you need to move the mouse over the image of the main section (the cursor above it will turn into a hand, in two-section mode it is the left one), press the left mouse button, move the image, then release the mouse button. A simple click on the picture of the main section will increase the viewing scale; clicking while holding down the Shift key will zoom out. The image on all other sections will immediately repeat the actions of the main one. In all windows that will open further, the same principle applies.
Information about the optimized image is displayed under the above two menus. We are primarily interested in the file size, palette and number of colors. In the figure we see that the file will occupy 10.1 kb, the palette is adaptive, the number of colors is 128.

Now, after describing the basic window settings, let's move on to creating a transparent PNG. We will not touch the right section, we will leave it for the original image, and in the right section we will select PNG8 from the format selection list (see figure). Then press the button Advanced(Additional).
In the Convert to Paletted window that opens, there are optimization settings that you will have to consider. The fact is that if a template was selected for optimization, then when you click the Advanced button you will have to configure everything again, in this window. Inconvenient and unclear.
Slider Smoothing(Smoothing) adjusts the degree of smoothing, which will hide small optimization artifacts, but sharpness is lost at higher values.

Drop-down list Palette will allow you to choose a color reduction algorithm, or, more simply, how Corel Draw will make an indexed image from a full-color image, with a limited number of colors. This process is also called choosing a palette. Of all the options in the list, the following palettes are of interest:
Adaptive (adaptive palette) - creates a color table with maximum transmission color range Images;
Optimized (optimized palette) - creates a palette of colors that are most often found in the original image;
GrayScale - will convert the image into a palette containing 256 shades of gray;
WebSafe (Web-safe) - converts the image into a standard table of 216 colors.
Adaptive and optimized palettes give the best results.
Drop-down list Dithering(dithering, scattering, imitation, shuffling - this option is called differently) will allow you to select a pixel mixing algorithm. Undesirable sharp gradient transitions will be smoothed out and new colors may appear. But when producing a file with transparency, this option may interfere.
Engine Dither Intensity(Stirring Intensity), as the name suggests, controls the intensity of stirring.
On the list Colors You can choose the number of colors. After all, an image can contain fewer than 256 colors. By choosing fewer colors, we will reduce the file size. Note that this list is not activated in all palettes - only adaptive and optimized palettes will allow you to change the number of colors.
After clicking OK, the current window will close and the PNG Export window will appear. It is in it (we finally got there) that the inclusion of transparency is located. Well, and at the same time, interlaced scanning options Interlace Image. Enabling Interlace Image will allow the image to load gradually, allowing the user to see the information before the image is fully loaded.

Radio button check mark Image Color turn on Transparency. On the right side of the window, under the picture in the form of small squares, a color table is activated, in which all the colors of the image will be present. We need to choose a color that will become transparent. This can be done in the table by clicking the corresponding color, or with the Eyedropper tool. Having selected it (the button with an eyedropper design), click the cursor on the desired color in the original image. If the Preview button is clicked, the result will immediately be displayed in the form of a chessboard (right picture in the figure). This part will be transparent. It is also possible that the transparent part is displayed not with chamat board, but with another, paler color. For example, in the image the color is green and the transparency is displayed in pale red.

Click OK, return to the Web Image Optimizer window and save the transparent PNG file.

The work was carried out in Corel Draw version X4, but all settings, windows and keyboard shortcuts are also valid for Corel Draw X3.

The CDR file format is a vector graphics format associated with a widely popular advanced graphics editing program: Corel Draw. CDR is also compatible with a few other programs from the Windows, Mac OS and Linux platforms. Used primarily for creating and editing digital graphics, CDR files tend to be very large in size.

The PNG(Portable Network Graphics) file format was designed in the mid-1990s as an improved alternative to the previously existing JPG and GIF formats, and as an extension which would be particularly web-friendly. In time, PNG files have gained a wide popularity and are highly appreciated at the moment for their ability to provide a lossless compression of images, which translates in high-quality and detailed renderings.

We have found one software suitable in our database for this conversion.

CorelDRAW supports many graphics formats, including PNG format much like any other graphics editor and you can import .png files the program as objects.

If you need to convert graphics from a . png file to Corel vector graphics, you can use a special function in CorelDraw called Corel Power Trace which can be used to convert bitmap graphics to vector and thus saved as CDR format. This function is accessible through the Raster Convert to Raster menu option when you have selected the object (previously imported .png picture). In previous versions of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite it was a standalone application called Corel Power Trace. In newer versions it is integrated into CorelDRAW program as a function.

Because the Corel CDR format is not that well supported in 3rd party programs (usually only old versions of the formats are), there is probably no other software that could perform simple png to cdr conversion.

The table with program actions contains information about what each program is capable of doing with their files. This may be a good pointer for further searches for certain file conversions and help you find the converter you are looking for if our search result is insufficient for you. However, it is far from perfect and may sometimes show results which are not really usable because of the nature of the software handles the files. So a conversion that appears as possible, just because of matched actions, may in fact not be possible.
