• Initial data: HTC Desire With latest version Android 2.2, software version 2.10.405.2, HBOOT bootloader 0.93.0001.
  • Goal: get root.

Having sifted through an immeasurable number of forums and sites, ours and Western ones, with all kinds of manuals, guides and facts on getting root for HTC Desire with Android 2.2, I regretfully stated that it is understandable and step by step instructions to the subject there is simply no. You need to pull out pieces of information from everywhere, blow your mind and invite a company of shamans with tambourines. I am going to correct this misunderstanding with this article.

So, download the archive (28.5 MB) containing: UnrEVOked 3.2 and HBOOT drivers, unpack it somewhere. There are two folders in front of you: Android USB Driver and reflash_package3.2:

Let's leave them like this for now.

We will divide the whole process into two stages: installing HBOOT drivers and directly rooting.

1 . Installing HBOOT drivers.

1.1 . Turn off the phone, then press the volume down and power buttons simultaneously, thereby getting into the HBOOT menu. You will see such a console menu, immediately remember DOS and Norton Commander

1.2 . In this state, we connect the phone to the computer and wait for the word HBOOT USB PLUG to appear on the phone screen.

1.3. Open Device Manager on your computer and look for an unidentified Android 1.0 device:

1.4 . Right-click on Android 1.0 and select Update Drivers. We need to specify the driver folder manually:

1.5 . Specify the path to Android folder USB Driver, and click next:

1.6 . If warnings occur, ignore them by clicking Install anyway:

1.7 . The drivers should install successfully and you should receive a window like this:

1.8 . Close the window and look in Device Manager - you should have the Android Bootloader Interface device in Android section Phone:

1.9 . That's it, the drivers are installed, in the phone's HBOOT menu select Fastboot > Reboot, the phone will reboot into normal mode.

2. Rooting using UnrEVOked 3.2.

2.1 . Install HTC Sync on your computer (you can get it on the HTC website) if you don’t already have it.

2.2 . We remove HTC Sync from the application manager without touching HTC Driver Installer - we leave it.

2.4 . Reboot the computer.

2.5 . Take Desire in hand, go to Settings > PC Connection > Default connection type, select Disk drive, uncheck Ask me.

2.6 . Next Settings > Applications > Development, check the USB Debugging box.

2.7 . We return to Applications and check if the Unknown sources checkbox is checked.

2.8 . In the reflash_package3.2 folder, run reflash.exe, in Windows Vista and 7 is required on behalf of the Administrator ( right button> Run as Administrator).

2.9 . We connect the phone to the computer.

2.10 . We wait (1-2 minutes).

2.11 . After loading ClockWorkMod Recovery, select reboot system now not with the power button, but with the trackball. The phone went to reboot.

2.12 . All! Rooting is complete.

If everything went well, you will see a new Superuser Permissions shortcut in applications, and applications that require root will begin to install

There are several ways to open Root access for smartphone.

First, through the menu CWM Recovery. I’ll describe it point by point, but first I want to remind you that the bootloader must be unlocked. Well, now let's talk about everything in order.

  1. You need to download “CWM Recovery” to your PC; the program is very popular, and therefore it is very easy to do.
  2. Rename the downloaded recovery to “recovery.img”
  3. Find and download the archive from “ADB”.
  4. In the root of drive D: create a folder and change the name to “Root”.
  5. Extract the “ADB” archive to a new folder.
  6. Turn off the phone, remove the battery from it for a couple of seconds, and put it back in place.
  7. Press “Power” and “Volume -” until the engineering menu loads.
  8. On your smartphone, select “Fasboot” and press “Power”. Moving up and down the menu is done using the “Volume +, -” buttons.
  9. We connect the smartphone and computer with a USB cable.
  10. Opening command line on a PC, and write commands in it
    - D:
    - cd D:/android
    - fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
  11. Once the installation is complete, select “power down” on your smartphone.
  12. Download the archive with root and transfer it to the device’s memory card.
  13. Turn on the phone in bootloader mode.
  14. Select the “recovery” item and press “Power”.
  15. Next, click on “install zip from sd card”.
  16. After installation is complete, reboot your smartphone.

Root access to your smartphone is now obtained.

Method No. 2

Obtaining rights using the program Universal Root.

Everything is simple here. First, remove the block from the bootloader. Then download this application and copy it to the memory card. In the smartphone settings, check the “Install from an unknown source” checkbox. Next, find our application on the memory card and click on it once. Your smartphone may give you the message “ This application may harm your device", ignore and click continue. After installation, open the program and click on “Root”. We reboot your htc and that’s it, the rights are obtained. It is worth noting that this is not a one hundred percent option, and may not root the device or damage system data, and therefore it is best to create a restore point or synchronize the data.

Method No. 3

Installation from a memory card. Loading the archive. Change the archive name to “update.zip” and move it to the root of the memory card. Turn on the smartphone in bootloader mode. After a couple of minutes, the program will automatically find the update archive and offer installation. Use the “Volume” key to select “Yes”, the firmware will begin. Upon completion, you need to reboot the device and delete the archive from the memory card so that the next time you boot, the program does not start installing updates again.

I once wrote about my smartphone HTC Wildfire S, which I got almost for nothing, broken and on which I . That was half the battle, right? how to root HTC Wildfire S then it became a priority for me.

But getting root on this smartphone was not as easy as on mine Lenovo tablet or even more so on another. Therefore, I tried several methods and will now tell you about the two most interesting ones.

How to root HTC via Unlock Root?

On the net I found the Unlock root program, which is designed specifically for getting root on HTC. First, let's go to the website UnlockROOT and see if your model is supported?

As you can see, my model exists, like many others, and it’s just wonderful. Now we download the program itself. There are three versions of the program on the website:

We download the software we need and try to flash the smartphone. Yes, you will need Windows for this :)

Here, below, you can download instructions for the firmware and drivers for your device. And without installing drivers, firmware is simply not possible.

I won’t describe the whole process in detail now, since I already got root on my smartphone, but in a different way.

How to root HTC using Unlocking Bootloader?

There is also another way to get root rights to HTC smartphones. Let's go to the site htcdev.com and select your smartphone model.

After that, click on the green button and follow the step-by-step instructions. Yes, don't forget to register on the site first :)

I was able to get root on Android on HTC using this exact method, although you may succeed first, a lot depends on the phone model and where and when it was manufactured. Here is the last thirteenth step, after which I received the long-awaited root:

Unfortunately, I can’t describe everything step by step, since I was flashing it a month ago and now I regret that I didn’t document it right away, but I’m glad that I at least saved a couple of screenshots.

If you have any difficulties, then write, I will try to help with advice, if I can of course :)

P.S. An easier and more versatile way to get root rights and in Android it is described in .

    Method 2 is unlock, on mine it was only possible to do it with the help of JuopunutBear for S-OFF

    Alexander, thanks for the addition. I think there are quite a few ways, I only wrote about what I used myself.

    Although root on this smartphone did not give much, there is still little internal memory space.

    I mean that this is the 1st stage of getting root - unlocking the bootloader, then usually installing a custom recovery and some Superuser.

    Alexander, yes, I understand. Indeed, you first need to unlock the bootloader, and then things will get easier :)

In the second half of 2011, HTC announced changes to its policy regarding loader protection and provided a way official unlocking available protection using the site htcdev.com. However, it is worth considering that using this opportunity, you will still lose the guarantee. In this regard, in all new official firmware, starting with update 2.3.5, at the loader state S-ON an additional state has appeared, now there are three of them: LOCKED, RELOCKED And UNLOCKED.
S-ON LOCKED indicates that the loader on your phone has been blocked.

S-ON RELOCKED– this RELOCKED state indicates that your loader is locked again, but before that it was already unlocked through the official website htcdev.com.
S-ON UNLOCKED– this state indicates that the loader is unlocked through the official website htcdev.com. In this case, not all memory is unlocked, unlike the case with S-OFF, so you will have to install firmware on it in two stages (more on this below). It is also worth noting that UNLOCKED does not unlock the loader partition, so you will not be able to flash to another HBOOT, and you will not be able to flash another radio module. But in S-OFF it is still possible.

How to find out which device you have S-ON or S-OFF

You need to remove the phone from fastboot mode: Settings -> Power -> Fast loading and uncheck here. Next, do the following:

Turn off the phone;

Press and hold the volume down button on the device and turn on the phone;

In the first line it will be written in caps S-ON for you or S-OFF;

How will it look like:
S-ON:

S-OFF:

If you have S-OFF or S-ON UNLOCKED, then go straight to the point 4 .

2. When S-ON, then you need to find out your version HBOOT.

HBOOT starts immediately when the phone starts, it is responsible for checking, as well as hardware initialization of the software. This is a kind of BIOS on a PC.

How to find out the HBOOT version

You need to remove the phone from fast boot mode: Settings -> Power -> Fast boot, uncheck the box here. Further:
- turn off your phone;
- press the volume down button and keep it pressed, turn on the phone;

A screen will appear with three green robots at the bottom;

The second line from the top is the HBOOT version of your device.

3. Get S-OFF or unlock the loader at stage UNLOCKED, can be done in different ways, depending on the loader version:
Before performing the operations described below, you must install the driver HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe

For Hboot versions 0.98.0000 And 0.98.0002 the following: instructions for getting S-OFF through Revolutionary, instructions can be followed until you get root.

For Hboot version 2.00.0002 there are two options:
Attention, remember that all your data will be erased!

  1. get S-OFF by returning to the previous firmware:

For number software(Settings -> About phone -> Software version) up to version 2.10.401.8 inclusive, done according to these instructions: HTC Desire S - Firmware (OS 2.3).

For the software version number 2.10.401.9, follow this link: HTC Desire S - Firmware (OS 2.3), but in point No. 2, you need to download firmware for Europe version 1.47.* RUU_htc_Europe.

Total you get old firmware with the old HBOOT, for which you get S-OFF through Revolutionary.

  1. Using this link, unlock Bootloader from HTC, as well as unlock HBOOT in S-ON UNLOCKED. We remind you that in the case of S-ON Unlocked, you can get root, then flash another firmware or another kernel, but you cannot change the hboot and radio module). This method, in theory, forever deprives you of the warranty, because... IMEI, which is involved in unlocking through the site, will be blacklisted and you will be refused when applying for a guarantee in all official service centers. Do not pay attention to the fact that our device is not officially supported on the manufacturer’s website; select “All other supported models” from the list. Register and do everything following the instructions. There is no point in screenshots, because... everything is so detailed and as clear as possible.
