Just recently I came across information about an office suite from Chinese developers - WPS Office . Previously, this package was called Kingsoft Office. After installation, I saw a clone of the “fine-soft” product. Chinese programmers did a great job.

Knowledgeable users on forums, social networks. networks and blogs write that compatibility with ms office 2010 and other versions is simply excellent. You just need to install the necessary fonts and the result will be excellent. There is support for PPT, DOC, DOCX, XLS XLSX formats, and can also save documents in PDF format.

From the information on the WPS Office website:

“Compatible with Fedora, CentOS, OpenSUSE, Ubuntu, Mint, Knoppix and many more
Supports 32-bit and 64-bit systems
Fully compatible with Microsoft Office
Spell check in 10 languages
Supported by our open source community"

Included: text editor Writer, spreadsheet editor Spreadsheets and presentation creation in Presentation.

So let's start installing the program on Ubuntu. Go to the download page - . Download. deb package, which must match the architecture of your system. After downloading, install via Application Center or GDebi.

To Russify the program, go to Main menu - Tools - Switch Language . Select Russian language. The program will download language pack, after which you will need to restart WPS Office.

To add a Russian dictionary for spell checking you need to download the archive:

For the Ukrainian language download the archive:

In the opened file manager copy the ru_RU or uk_UA directory to the above folder. Now let's go to Main menu - Tools - Set language . Select Russian Federation or Ukrainian - Set as default. With this, let me take my leave.

IN Linux Mint interface of all three programs after launch it is English-language.

To download WPS Office on Linux, go to https://wps.com/download and select

Among the list available packages choose your own (for Linux Mint this will be a deb package), corresponding to the system bit size (32 or 64 bit).

When you first start you will be asked to accept (I Accept) the terms of use:

In the example under consideration, when launching WPS Office, an analogue was used Microsoft Word– WPS Writer. However, the changes you make will affect all components of WPS Office.

After launch you will be given a warning like

but for now you can close this window and “deal with” it after switching to Russian.

To switch to Russian, click on the arrow in the right corner of the Writer button

and go to "Tools" Switch Language". WPS Office will connect to its website and display a list of available languages. Search for Russian and follow it double click mouse.
As soon as the Russian localization is copied in the download window, WPS Office will inform you that the interface will switch after restarting the application.

After the restart, the meaning of the previously pop-up message became clear:
Now we need to install a Russian spell check dictionary. Download the archive.

The archive contains a directory with three files:

The WPS Office Russification guides on various sites contain instructions for adding Russian dictionaries through terminal commands. But it is probably more convenient and clearer to do this through a file manager. Execute in terminal

Sudo nemo – for the Cinnamon environment

Sudo caja – for MATE environment

Sudo thunar – for XFCE environment

And place the ru_RU directory in /opt/kingsoft/wps-office/office6/dicts

Launch WPS Writer and click on the arrow in the right corner of the button
Go to "Tools - Select language" and set the default to Russian:

You probably noticed that when WPS Writer starts, a not entirely clear process occurs, which is displayed by the Docer window:

Does LibreOffice's interface seem dull? Do MS Word documents open crookedly? A product from Chinese developers is in a hurry to help - WPS Office (Kingsoft Office), a clone of MS Office with maximum compatibility with the latest.

Package includes word processor WPS Writer, WPS Presentation software and spreadsheet editor WPS Spreadsheets. WPS Office is developed for the following platforms: Linux, Windows, Android and iOS. There are both free and paid versions for Windows.

WPS Office supports formats MS Office 2007/2010/2013, but with OpenDocument Format, Unfortunately, not friendly. There is a built-in feature export documents to PDF and several interface options - both classic and identical to MS Office 2013.

Installation and configuration

Attached detailed instructions for installation and configuration WPS Office For example Linux Mint 17 Qiana(based on Ubuntu).

1. Download the WPS Office distribution from the community website and install it.

2. Install ttf fonts:

Sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer

3. Most likely, these fonts will not be enough for the job. WPS Office itself complains about missing fonts when launched:

You can download the missing fonts here (http://allshrift.ru) or here (http://www.fontpalace.com).

4. Additional fonts put it here:

/usr/share/fonts/microsoft-non-dpkg

5. Update the cache fontconfig:

Sudo fc-cache -fv

6. Launch WPS Writer, select the language ( Writer -> Tools -> Switch Language). Or click the quick button on the panel on the right.

We are waiting for the translations to load.

7. Now it would be nice to enable Russian spelling checking. Download the Russian dictionary from here (http://wps-community.org/download/dicts/ru_RU.zip). The contents of the archive are placed in /opt/kingsoft/wps-office/office6/dicts. In Writer, go to the tab “Review”, “Spell Check” -> “Set Language”. Select the one you need:

8. Here we could be happy, but when we launch Writer persistently offers us a bunch of wonderful online templates:

This looks especially enchanting with a poor connection:

To disable annoying templates, you need to either open the empty document template once, which is located here: /home/%username%/.kingsoft/office6/templates/wps, or change the settings in the file /home/%username%/.config/Kingsoft/Office.conf:

Common\wpshomeoptions\StartWithHome=0 common\wpshomeoptions\StartWithBlank=1

Now, when launched, a blank document opens:

You can switch the interface from the menu "Service" or by the icon in the upper right corner:

Conclusion

Overall this office WPS Office makes a good impression; even quite complex MS Office documents open correctly.

And this is what the version for Android:
