    Step 2: Remove com.microsoft files from Library > Preferences folders

    Click Go while holding down the Option key.

    Select Personal and open the Library folder.

    Open Settings and sort files and folders alphabetically.

    Note: If you have Office 2016 for Mac installed on your computer, DO NOT delete the com.microsoft.autoupdate2.plist file.

    Drag com.microsoft to the Trash.

    Still in Settings, open the ByHost directory and drag all files whose names start with “com.microsoft” to the Trash.

    If you've previously created custom templates that you'd like to keep, copy them to a different folder before continuing.

    Return to the Library, go to Application Support > Microsoft, and drag the Office folder to the Trash.

    Step 3: Remove com.microsoft.office.licensing files from Computer > Library folders

    Select Go > Computer

    Macintosh HD.

    Click Library > LaunchDaemons and drag com.microsoft.office.licensing.helper.plist to the Trash.

    Return to your Library folder, open Settings, and drag com.microsoft.office.licensing.plist to the Trash.

    Return to the library and open PrivilegedHelperTools. Drag com.microsoft.office.licensing.helper to the Trash.

    Note: If you have Office 2016 for Mac installed on your computer, DO NOT delete files whose names contain the characters "V2". These files are specific to Office 2016 for Mac.

    From the Apple menu, select Restart.

    Step 4: Delete Microsoft Folders and Office 2011 Files

    Select Go > Computer and double-click the hard drive icon.

    Default HDD called Macintosh HD.

    Open the Library folder, and then click Program Support.

    Drag the Microsoft folder to the Trash.

    Warning:

    Return to your Library folder, open Fonts, and drag the Microsoft folder to the Trash.

    Return to your Library folder and open Notifications. Drag all files whose names begin with Office2011_ to the Trash.

    Note:

    Finder click Empty Trash.

    From the Apple menu, select Restart.

    Step 5: Move to Desktop and Rename the Microsoft User Data Folder

    Select Go > Computer and double-click the hard drive icon.

    By default, the hard drive is named Macintosh HD.

    Open the Library folder, and then click Program Support.

    Drag the Microsoft folder to the Trash.

    Warning: If you have a plug-in installed Microsoft Silverlight, you may need to reinstall it after deleting this folder. Go to this site to reinstall Microsoft Silverlight.

    Return to your Library folder, open Fonts, and drag the Microsoft folder to the Trash.

    Return to your Library folder and open Notifications. Drag all files whose names begin with Office2011_ to the Trash.

    Note: They are not always available on the computer.

    Make sure you can delete all files and folders in the Recycle Bin. From the Finder menu, click Empty Trash.

    From the Apple menu, select Restart.

    Step 6: Remove Office application icons

    Control-click the Office application icon (such as Microsoft Word) in the Dock. Do this for each corresponding icon on the panel.

    Select Options > Remove from Dock.
