Cautions

Precautions to Avoid Possible Excessive Exposure to Microwave Energy

Thanks to the interlocking contacts built into the oven door mechanism, you cannot turn on the oven with the door open. These latching contacts ensure that any cooking function is automatically turned off when the door is opened, because if you do not do so in the case of a microwave oven, you may be exposed to harmful microwave energy.
It is important not to try to do anything with the locking contacts.
Do not insert any objects between the oven door and the front panel and do not allow food or cleaning residues to accumulate on the sealing surfaces.

Do not use a faulty oven.
It is especially important that the oven door closes securely and that there is no damage to: (1) the door (bent), (2) hinges and latches (broken or loose), (3) door seals and sealing surfaces.
The oven should not be adjusted or repaired by anyone other than a qualified microwave technician.

Warning
Please always ensure that you set the cooking time correctly as cooking for too long may cause the food to burn and cause damage to the oven.

When heating liquids such as soups, sauces and drinks in your microwave oven, the liquid may overheat above its boiling point without producing visible steam bubbles. This may cause the superheated liquid to boil unexpectedly. To avoid this possibility, the following measures must be taken:

1. Avoid using cylindrical containers with narrow necks.
2. Do not overheat the liquid.
3. Stir the liquid before placing the vessel in the oven and then stir it again after half the heating time has elapsed.
4. Once preheating is completed, allow the container to sit in the oven for a while, then carefully re-stir the liquid or shake the container and check the temperature of the liquid before using it to avoid burns (especially baby bottles and jars).

Warning
Always allow food to stand after cooking using microwave energy and check
temperature of the food before eating it. This especially applies to the contents of bottles and jars of baby food.

How does a microwave oven work?

Microwaves are a form of energy similar to the electromagnetic waves used in radio and television broadcasting and normal daylight.
Typically, electromagnetic waves travel outward through the atmosphere and disappear into space without a trace. However, microwave ovens have a magnetron, which is designed in such a way that the energy contained in the microwaves can be harnessed. The electricity conducted to the magnetron is used to generate microwave energy. Microwaves enter the cooking area through openings inside the oven. At the bottom of the oven is a rotating turntable or tray. Microwaves cannot penetrate metal oven walls, but they can penetrate materials such as glass, porcelain, and paper—materials that make microwave-safe cookware.
Microwaves do not heat the cookware; however, the cookware is heated by the heat generated in the food.

VERY SAFE DEVICE

Your microwave oven is one of the safest pieces of equipment. As soon as the door is opened, the oven automatically stops producing microwaves. When microwave energy penetrates food, it is completely converted into heat, leaving no “residual” energy in the food that could have a harmful effect on your health.

Unpacking and Installing the Oven

Following basic instructions shown on the following two pages, you can quickly install the oven and check its functionality. Please pay special attention to the instructions regarding the installation location of the oven. When unpacking the oven, be sure to remove all accessories and packing materials that came with it. Please ensure that your oven was not damaged upon delivery.

1. Unpack your oven and place it on a flat, horizontal surface.

LG MS2047C

2. Place the oven on a flat, horizontal surface in the location of your choice, at least 85cm above the floor, but ensure there is at least 30cm of clearance at the top and 10cm at the back of the oven for adequate ventilation. To avoid accidentally knocking the oven onto the floor, ensure that the front edge of the door is at least 8 cm deep from the edge of the surface on which the oven is installed.
Ventilation holes are located on the top or side walls of the oven. Blocking these openings may damage the oven.

THIS PRODUCT SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR COMMERCIAL COOKING PURPOSES

3. Connect your microwave oven to a standard wall outlet alternating current. Ensure that the oven is powered from separate circuit. If your oven is not working properly, unplug the power plug from the outlet and then reinsert the plug into the outlet.

Important Safety Instructions

WARNING
Please always ensure that you set the cooking time correctly as cooking for too long may cause the food to FIRE and subsequently DAMAGE THE OVEN.

Please read carefully and retain for future reference.
1. Do not attempt to adjust or repair the door, control panel, interlock contacts, or any other part of the oven yourself. It is dangerous to perform any maintenance or repair work on the oven that involves removing any covers or covers that provide protection from microwave energy. Repairs should only be performed by a qualified microwave repair technician.
2. Do not turn on the oven when it is empty. When the oven is not in use, it is recommended to place a glass of water in it. If you accidentally turn on the oven, the water will safely absorb all the microwave energy.
3. Do not microwave dry clothes, which may char or burn if you heat them for too long.
4. Do not cook food by wrapping it in paper towels unless the cookbook specifically recommends doing so.
5. Do not use newspapers instead of paper towels when preparing food.
6. Do not use wooden utensils. It may overheat and become charred. Do not use ceramic cookware with metallic trim (such as gold or silver). Always remove twisted wires from food bags. Metal objects can create an electrical arc that can cause serious damage to the oven.
7. Do not operate the oven with a kitchen towel, napkin, or other obstruction between the door and the oven front, as this may cause microwave energy to leak to the outside.
8. Do not use recycled paper as it may contain impurities that could cause sparks and/or fire when cooking.
9. Do not wash the turntable in water immediately after finishing cooking. It may break or crack.
10. Small quantities of food require less time to cook or reheat. If you program the normal time, the food may overheat and burn.
11. To avoid accidentally knocking the oven onto the floor, ensure that the front edge of the door is at least 8 cm deep from the edge of the surface on which the oven is installed.
12. Before cooking, pierce the skins of potatoes, apples and other similar fruits and vegetables with a fork.
13. Do not cook eggs in their shells in the oven. Pressure will build up inside the egg and it will explode.
14. Do not attempt to deep-fry food in your oven.
15. Before cooking or defrosting food, remove any plastic packaging. However, please note that in some cases food may need to be covered with plastic wrap when cooking or reheating.
16. If the oven door or door seals are not in good condition, the oven should not be used until it is repaired by a professional.
17. If you notice smoke, do not open the oven door, but turn it off or unplug the oven's power cord from the outlet to allow the flames to go out without introducing air.
18. When cooking or heating food in disposable containers made of plastic, paper or other flammable materials, do not leave the oven unattended and check inside frequently to ensure that nothing is happening to the container.
19. Allow children to use the oven unsupervised only after you have trained them so that the child knows how to use the oven safely and understands the dangers of improper use.
20. Liquids or other products should not be heated in sealed containers as they may explode if heated.

The service life of this product is 7 years from the date of delivery of the product to the consumer.

Microwave cookware

Never use metal utensils or utensils with metal trim in your microwave oven.
Microwaves cannot pass through metal. They will be reflected from any metal object placed in the oven and will cause an electric arc, which is similar in origin to lightning.
Most heat-resistant non-metallic cookware is microwave safe. However, some cookware may contain materials that make it unsuitable for microwave use. If you are unsure about the suitability of a particular cookware, there is an easy way to determine whether it is microwave safe.
Place the item you are concerned about in the microwave next to a glass of water. Microwave on HIGH for 1 minute. If the water warms up and the utensil being tested remains cool to the touch, it is safe to use in the microwave. However, if the water temperature does not change and the dish becomes warm, it is absorbing microwaves and is not safe to use in the microwave. You probably already have a lot of utensils in your kitchen that can be used when cooking in the microwave. Just read the list below.

Table plates
Many types of dinnerware are microwave safe. If in doubt, consult the cookware manufacturer's documentation or perform a microwave safety test.

Glassware
Heat-resistant glassware is microwave safe. This also applies to all brands of tempered glass cookware. However, do not use fragile glassware such as glasses or wine glasses, as they may break when the food is heated.

Plastic containers for food storage
They can be used to quickly heat food. However, they should not be used for cooking for long periods of time, as hot food will eventually cause them to warp or melt.

Paper
Paper plates and containers are convenient and safe to use in the microwave, as long as the cooking time is short and the food is low in fat and moisture. Paper towels are also very useful for wrapping food and lining baking sheets in which fatty foods such as bacon are cooked. In general, try to avoid colored paper, as the dye may transfer to the food. Some recycled paper products may contain impurities that can cause arcing or fire.

Plastic bags for cooking
They are safe to use in the microwave provided they are specifically designed for cooking. However, be sure to cut a slit in the bag to allow steam to escape from the bag. Never use regular plastic bags for cooking food in your microwave oven as they will melt and tear.

Plastic kitchen utensils for microwave oven
Microwave cookware is available in a variety of shapes and sizes. For the most part, you can probably use utensils you already have in your kitchen rather than buying new ones.

Faience, pottery and ceramics
Vessels made from these materials are usually perfectly suitable for use in a microwave oven, but to be completely sure they must be tested in the above manner.

WARNING
Some utensils with high lead or iron content are not suitable for use in a microwave oven. To be sure that the utensils are microwave safe, you should test them.

Product characteristics and microwave cooking

Watch the cooking process
The recipes in the cookbook have been carefully developed, but your success in preparing dishes using them depends on how closely you observe the cooking process. Always watch food while preparing it. Your oven has a built-in light that automatically turns on when food is cooking, so you can look inside and check how it's cooking. Instructions given in recipes about when to lift, stir, etc. should be considered the minimum required. If you feel like your food is cooking unevenly, simply take steps that you think will improve the situation.

Factors affecting cooking time
Cooking time depends on many factors. The temperature of the ingredients used in a recipe greatly affects the cooking time. For example, a cake made with butter, milk and eggs fresh from the refrigerator will take significantly longer to bake than a cake made with the same ingredients at room temperature. All recipes in this Guide include cooking time ranges. In general, you will find that if you cook a dish for the minimum time specified in a recipe, it will usually not be fully cooked, and sometimes you will even have to exceed the maximum time specified to cook the dish to your liking. The basic principle adopted in this cookbook is to be conservative when specifying cooking times. After all, if the food is burnt, then it can no longer be corrected. Some recipes, especially breads, pies and custards, recommend removing the dish from the oven slightly undercooked. It's not a mistake. If food is allowed to sit, especially if covered, it continues to cook even after it is removed from the oven as the heat absorbed by the outer layers of the food gradually penetrates inside. If food is left in the oven until it is completely cooked, the outer layers will dry out or even burn. You will gradually become more adept at timing the cooking and standing time of various foods.

Density of products
Light, spongy foods such as cake or bread cook faster than heavy, dense foods such as roast beef or stew. When cooking porous foods, you must take care that the outer edges do not become too dry and brittle.

Food height
The top of tall foods, particularly roast beef, will cook faster than the bottom. As a result, it is recommended to turn a dish that has a large height during cooking, sometimes several times.

Number of products
The number of microwaves in your microwave oven remains the same regardless of the amount of food being cooked. Therefore, the more food you put in the microwave, the longer it will take to cook. When you cook any dish that is half the weight specified in the recipe, be sure to reduce the cooking time specified in the recipe by at least one third.

Products form
Microwaves only penetrate food to a depth of about 2 cm; The inside of a thick dish is cooked by transferring heat generated from the outside to the inside. Only the outer layers of any dish are cooked by microwave energy, the rest of the dish is cooked by conduction. It follows that the worst possible shape for a dish when cooked in a microwave oven is a thick square. The corners will have been ready for a long time, but the center will not even heat up yet. The microwave oven cooks most successfully round thin dishes and ring-shaped dishes.

Covering
The lid traps heat and steam, causing food to cook faster. To cover, use a lid or tight-fitting film, lifting one of its corners so that the film is not torn by the steam pressure.

Browning
Meats and poultry that cook for 15 minutes or longer will brown lightly from their own fat. For dishes that cook for a shorter time, a browning sauce such as Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce or barbecue sauce can be applied to create an appetizing color. Because relatively small amounts of browning sauce are added to dishes, the original flavor of the food remains intact.

Covering with greaseproof paper
Greaseproof paper effectively prevents splattering and helps food retain some of its heat. But because it covers the food less tightly than a lid or cling film, it allows the food to dry out slightly.

Placement and spacing
Piece foods such as baked potatoes, muffins, and snacks will heat more evenly if they are placed evenly apart in the microwave, preferably in a circle. Never stack food on top of each other.

Mixing
Stirring is one of the most important techniques when cooking food in the microwave. In normal cooking, dishes are stirred to combine ingredients. However, when cooking with microwaves, food is stirred to spread and redistribute heat. Always stir food from the edges towards the center as the edges heat up first.

Flipping
Large, tall dishes, such as large pieces of meat and whole chicken, need to be turned so that the top and bottom cook evenly. It is also recommended to turn chicken pieces and cutlets.

Placing thicker portions outside
Since microwaves are attracted to the outer parts of food, it is wise to place thicker portions of meat, poultry or fish closer to the edges of the dish in which they are cooked. This way, thicker portions will receive more microwave energy and the food will cook more evenly.

Shielding
To prevent corners and edges of square or rectangular dishes from overcooking, they are sometimes covered with pieces of aluminum foil, which block microwaves. Never use too much foil and ensure that the foil is held securely on the dish, otherwise an electrical arc may occur.

Lifting
Thick and dense dishes can be raised to allow microwaves to be absorbed by the bottom and center of the dish.

Piercing
Foods encased in shells, skins or membranes may explode in the oven if you do not puncture them before cooking. These foods include egg whites and yolks, shellfish and oysters, and whole vegetables and fruits.

Checking readiness
Microwave ovens cook food so quickly that you need to check it frequently for doneness. Some foods are left in the oven until they are fully cooked, but most foods, including meat and poultry, are removed from the oven slightly undercooked and allowed to finish cooking during the resting time. During the settling time, the internal temperature of the food rises from 30 C to 80 C.

Sludge time
Food is often allowed to sit for 3 to 10 minutes after it is removed from the microwave. Typically, food is covered while it sits to keep it warm, except when it needs to dry out on the outside (for example, some pies and biscuits). The settling allows the food to finish cooking and also allows the flavors to mingle and intensify.

Cleaning your oven

1. Keep oven interior surfaces clean
Drops of food or spilled liquids stick to the walls of the oven and get between the seals and the surface of the door. It is best to remove them immediately with a damp cloth. Food crumbs and drippings will absorb microwave energy and increase cooking time. Use a damp cloth to remove any crumbs or food particles between the oven door and sealing surfaces. These areas must be cleaned especially carefully to ensure that the door closes securely. Remove beads of grease from the internal surfaces with a soapy rag, then rinse off the soap with a rag and wipe dry. Do not use harsh detergents or abrasive cleaners. The glass tray can be washed by hand or in the dishwasher.

2. Keep the outside surfaces of the oven clean
Clean the exterior surfaces with mild soap and warm water, then rinse off the soap and wipe the cabinet dry with a soft cloth or paper towel. To prevent damage to the oven's interior, do not allow water to seep into the vents. To clean the control panel, open the door to prevent the oven from accidentally turning on and wipe the panel with a damp cloth, then immediately dry it with a soft cloth. After finishing cleaning, press the button Stop/Reset.

3. If steam condenses inside or outside the oven around the perimeter of the door, wipe the panels with a soft cloth. This may occur when the microwave oven is operated in high humidity conditions and does not in any way indicate a malfunction of the oven.
4. The door and door seals must be kept clean. To clean, use only a soft cloth and soapy warm water, then rinse off the soap and dry thoroughly.
DO NOT USE ABRASIVE MATERIALS SUCH AS CLEANING POWDERS, SWORDS, OR PLASTIC PADS.
Metal surfaces will be easier to keep clean if you wipe them frequently with a damp cloth.

Answers to the most frequently asked questions

Time adjustment is carried out using buttons or a knob. Manufacturers designate them in their own way. On some microwaves you can see a dial icon, on others there is simply the inscription “Time”.

A mechanical microwave oven has controls. They are responsible for the power and heating speed. It is necessary to adjust the timer correctly so that the food warms up, but does not burn.

You can heat the water in one minute, and the chicken legs will bake for 30-40 minutes.

To defrost food, you need to set the timer for 3 minutes, with the power set to minimum.

Automatic microwave ovens do not require time setting. Just select a mode, for example, “Popcorn” or “Fish”, and the oven will set the timer itself.

Electronic models from Samsung and LG allow you to increase or decrease the cooking time. No need to turn off the microwave or wait until set time will pass, you can use the “More/Less” buttons.

Some models have a Delay Start function. This is convenient for those who combine cooking with other things. The microwave oven will start working itself at the right time. Check that this function is working properly, otherwise the timer will not work correctly.

The clock gets lost every time you unplug the microwave or your apartment is without power. For example, recently the power went out.

What's the secret to delicious microwave food? The answer is simple - at the right time. Each dish will need something different. Modern microwave ovens allow you not only to heat up, but also to defrost food. Separate options and modes will help you bake a pie, cook porridge or bake fish. We talked about how to set the clock in this article.

How to set the time on a microwave

To adjust the time correctly, you need to use the buttons or adjusting knobs on the panel. Each manufacturer designates them in its own way: with an icon with a dial or simply with the inscription “Time”.

The principle depends on the type of control of the microwave oven. There will be controls on the mechanical panel. One of them is responsible for power, the other for heating speed. To prevent food from overheating or burning, it is important to set the timer correctly.

It takes 60 seconds to get boiling water in a cup. But baking chicken legs will take 30-40 minutes.

To defrost food in a mechanical microwave, set the power control to minimum and the timer to 3 minutes. There are minute markings around the knobs to make it easier for you.

Electronically controlled microwave ovens offer big choice modes. As a rule, you do not need to set the time yourself. Just select a certain mode, for example “Bird” or “Popcorn”, and the device will automatically set a timer.

IN electronic models Samsung, LG and some other brands can increase the cooking time. If the initially set period was not enough, then it is not necessary to wait for the shutdown. Adjust the parameters using the More/Less buttons.

In ElG models this is done like this:

  • Press the Stop/Reset key;
  • To set manual mode, select the “Start” button;
  • Now adjust the values using the More/Less keys. In this case, the readings will change by 10 seconds up or down.

Some models have additional mode"Delayed start." This is very convenient if you do several things at the same time. The device will turn off automatically as soon as the timer reaches the set point. Before adjusting, it is important to check the accuracy of the time on the microwave clock, otherwise the timer will not work correctly.

The clock may become lost during a power outage and will need to be reset. If this is your first time turning on the device, then our recommendations will also be useful to you. Don't forget to remove the protective film from the inside of the camera first.

All microwave ovens can operate on a 12-hour or 24-hour system.

How to set the time in LG:

  • Press the "Stop" key;
  • To adjust for 24 hours, press “Clock” twice. For 12 o'clock press again;
  • Press the 10 minutes key 15 times. Then the “1 minute” button 3 times. Now “10 minutes” 5 times;
  • Now again “Clock”.

That's it, installation is complete. Now select any function and start cooking.

For Samsung microwave ovens, other steps are needed to set the time:

  • Press the Dial or Clock key. For format 24 - 1 time, for format 12 - twice.
  • To set values, select the More/Less keys. They are indicated by up and down arrows.
  • Confirm the action - “Clock”.

To operate your microwave successfully, follow the basic rules:

  • Choose the appropriate cooking time;
  • Use only special heat-resistant dishes;
  • Do not place hermetically sealed containers in the chamber.

Of course, settings for technology different brands are different. Detailed information is provided in the attached instructions. Adhere to the operating rules, including those regarding the selected modes and options. What is suitable for one dish may not be suitable for another.

We have to spend a considerable amount of time in the kitchen: there we cook and eat food, wash dishes and clean surfaces, drink tea and talk during long evenings. It is very convenient to be near a clock; with it, home time management will be more effective. To do this, you don’t have to buy an additional device; you can easily set the time on the microwave.

How to adjust the time display

In models of microwave ovens from different manufacturers, the clock display function is arranged in a similar way. The interface differs: the location and name of the buttons, the digital display. In some devices with mechanical control, the design does not allow you to set the current time; it is only possible to set the desired cooking duration on the timer.

Clock on display

Setting the clock in different microwave ovens

Samsung brand ovens have the function of setting a clock that shows the time in one of two formats. When the microwave is plugged in, the number zero flashes on the display. To control, press the dial button and select the mode: day or half of them. Next, to set the required number of hours, use the up and down arrow keys. Secure with the clock button. Adjust the minutes in a similar way and secure with the “dial”.

The Mystery microwave oven is also equipped with an electronic display that displays the current time when the cooking process is not in progress. In the latter case, the duration of the specified mode is displayed on the screen. The first switching on of the oven is accompanied by sound signal, and the digital symbol “1:01” flashes on the display. The range can be set from 01 to 12; to do this, click the “Clock” icon. The current settings are reset using the icon in the Cancel menu. To set the correct time, you need to successively press the “1 minute” key as many times as there are hours, and secure it by touching the “Clock” indicator. Do the same with minutes.

Time on the Mystery microwave display

The LG microwave oven has the same principle: the number of hours and minutes is selected using buttons, confirmed by pressing the key on which the dial icon is located. Example of setting the time 13:25 in daily format:

  • clear the settings using the “Stop\Reset” button;
  • press “Clock” twice, select display in the whole day mode;
  • impulsively press on “10 minutes” until we reach the display of the number “13”;
  • use the “1 minute” button to set the number of tens of minutes, that is, press it twice;
  • the remaining five minutes will be given by the “10 seconds” button, which should be pressed five times;
  • We fix the result with the “Clock” icon.

If you need to correct the set values, you can do this by touching the “Stop\Reset” function.

Every time there is a power outage, the time is reset and you need to reset it on the screen.

Mechanics and electronics

Appliances equipped with a manual control for cooking modes are not designed to display the clock. Such microwaves are easy to use and affordable, but this does not mean that they are worse than expensive ones. Simplified models usually have two knobs; by turning one of them in a circle, you set the power or mode. The second serves to start the reverse timer and is most often used to warm up food.

Microwave with mechanical control

Electronic control type gives microwave ovens greater functionality. Touch buttons located on the front panel are needed to select a program. If you have a specific task to heat up food, you can use one of the keys indicating minutes and seconds. These microwave ovens have a built-in clock; after installation, the display will show the current time. To reset and change settings, you need to enter the “Clock” menu, then press the “Stop” or “Cancel” button.

Cooking modes for different foods

Each type of dish requires its own duration of boiling. Setting the minutes on the timer or touchpad depends on the recipe, volume of products and the required option. In the microwave you can cook porridge and vegetables, bake an omelet and a cupcake, make steamed cutlets or fish. Majority modern devices support the defrosting function: microwaves carefully penetrate the structure of the frozen product and thaw it, almost without heating it. Models with an electronic menu are equipped with a set various programs for automatic cooking. The most popular mode is the heating mode, which is supported by all microwave ovens.

Soft Menu Panel

Delay start is another useful option. The menu presets the time when the start will work and the microwave will turn on desired mode. When the cooking time has expired, the timer will automatically stop the process. When using this function, it is important to ensure that the time entered into the device memory is correct. Then there will be no unpleasant surprises.

You will learn more about the function of setting the clock and the purpose of the menu buttons from the instructions for the microwave.
