In this video we will look at the command Taskkill, which allows you to terminate certain processes from command line in the Windows operating system. But first, as always, let’s look at why this might be needed at all.

On regular workstations this command is not particularly in demand, since you can end the process through the task manager. Although, this does not always work out and in this situation the Taskkill command is useful, but this is rather an exception to the rule.

This command is mainly used by system administrators and I personally encountered the following situations:

1) Updating programs on the terminal server - when administering a terminal server, a large number of people can run the same application. But, in most cases, when updating a program, you must first close it, i.e. complete its process. If there are not many clients, then you can use the task manager, but if there are about 100 of them, then this is already problematic. And the Taskkill command allows you to kill all processes for a specific application.

2) Automatic program restart - as you know, not all programs work perfectly and sometimes they freeze. And if this program must work 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, then you have to periodically check its performance.

Personally, I came across the following situation: there is an online store into which product data is uploaded from 1C. But the handler is written somehow crookedly, as a result of which the exchange freezes once a day, or even every 2-3 hours. Therefore, it became necessary to forcefully restart the handler every hour, regardless of whether the program froze or not.

And so, let's move on to practice.

Consists in reducing the number of processes and tasks performed. This is not surprising, because such processes and tasks consume the resources of our computer, and therefore it can slow down or freeze when we try to play a demanding toy or work with complex programs. Naturally, we cannot simply close all processes in the task manager, because some of them are necessary for correct operation operating system.

The processes on each individual computer may differ, because we use various programs and we have different hardware installed. However, there are a number of processes that run on every computer under OS Windows 7, and their termination, in addition to speeding up the system, will not lead to any other consequences. So, let's figure out what processes can be disable in manager Windows tasks 7 .

First you need to open it yourself Task Manager: for this we use Ctrl+Alt+Delete. In the window that appears, click on the Processes tab. A list of processes with users will appear in front of you; so that all processes are displayed, check the corresponding box at the bottom of the window.

In the very bottom left corner of the window you can see how many active processes are running on the this moment. There are 134 of them in the screenshot. In the Memory column you can find out how much RAM a particular process is using.

The processes that are visible in the task manager are divided into two categories:

  • System– they are designed for the operation of the operating system as a whole, and its individual elements.
  • Custom– processes that were launched as an administrator, i.e. computer owner.

In the User column you can see which category a particular process belongs to. You should not end processes directly from the Windows 7 task manager, otherwise this may lead to crashes or reboots of the operating system. If you try to terminate an important process that is responsible for the performance of the OS, it will either not be closed or will reopen after a while, about which you will receive a corresponding notification.

So, in most cases, user processes need to be terminated. This category includes programs and services that have been installed by the user himself. However, there are some exceptions. So, if you try to close explorer.exe, the shortcuts and taskbar will disappear from the desktop.

If you don't know which user processes can be terminated in the Windows 7 Task Manager, take a look at where is this process file located?. To do this, click right click by process, and from the menu that opens, select File storage location. If it turns out that this file is located in the folder Windows, then it's under no circumstances can't be closed. However, there is an exception here too - if this file is malicious virus, then it must be removed immediately.

Here is a list of processes that do not need to be closed:

This table shows the processes that require termination (unless, of course, you need them at a given time):

In order to complete the process, you need to click on the appropriate button in the task manager, and after the warning window appears, confirm your action.

This method will, of course, close the process, but in most cases the effect will only last until the next reboot of the computer. When the system is rebooted, the completed process will again be loaded. Therefore, in order get rid of unnecessary process forever, we need delete appropriate program, or remove it from startup.

If you are not sure whether a particular task or process can be completed, then it is better not to risk it and leave it running. After using the computer for a long time without reinstalling the OS and cleaning programs, a large amount of completely unnecessary processes, which slow down the system. Therefore, task manager should be cleaned regularly.

All computer processes consume resources. But not all of them are vital. There are many unnecessary applications that are absolutely useless and therefore need to be terminated. If the performance level of Windows 7 decreases, the first thing the user asks is how to disable unnecessary programs on the system.

Where do you get unnecessary programs on your computer?

Where do unnecessary programs and applications appear on the computer?

  1. Firstly, the source installed programs is the computer manufacturer itself. Therefore, even in new car there are several dozen of them.
  2. Secondly, unnecessary programs are often installed with drivers peripheral devices- printers, modems and others.
  3. Thirdly, there are “bonus” applications. They are installed if the user forgot to uncheck the boxes during installation of the required utility.

Often, program authors deliberately hide windows for canceling installation, depriving computer owners of the opportunity to abandon unnecessary software. In addition, many additional applications not only take up disk space, but are also added to startup.

Antiviruses and various cleaning programs do not identify “bonus packages” as unwanted. Therefore, you have to remove such software manually.

How to determine which programs and processes can be removed

By and large, when working with Windows 7, only those applications that ensure the operation of the system should be enabled. account user and peripheral devices currently in use - the rest should be stopped. By the name of the process you can find out its description and role in the system. It is recommended to study information about it before deleting it.

Example: There is a process "spoolsv.exe". It manages print queues on the system and interacts with printer drivers. Accordingly, if you are not currently using the printer, stopping the process is possible.

The following programs must be removed from the installed programs:

  • [email protected];
  • [email protected];
  • AlterGeo Magic Scanner;
  • Yandex.Bar;
  • WinZix;
  • Google Toolbar;
  • Bing Bar;
  • StartSearch;
  • Update the Software;
  • Speedbit;
  • Ask toolbar;
  • Ask.com;
  • Gator;
  • QIP Internet Guardian.

When the condition is met, you can start using the program. To do this, click on Analyze. The system analysis process may take several minutes.

To run the program, you need to click on Analyze

As a result, the user will receive information about which programs can be “killed” forever and which are prohibited from uninstallation. This feature makes PC Decrapifier stand out from other similar utilities.

In this article I continue the theme of optimizing your computer; today we will stop some programs running in the background to speed up and operate your PC.

In the last lesson we disabled programs from startup(if you haven’t read this lesson, then I advise you to start with it, the link is at the end of this article), thereby increasing performance, and now we will disable Windows services running in the background.

Any of these services can be either system or third-party, but they all eat up a small part of the system’s resources; if you consider that there are several dozen of them, the load increases noticeably.

Of course in most cases system programs working in the background are necessary for the normal operation of the computer, but there are some that are not needed at all and are unlikely to be needed by anyone.

When disabling yourself, you need to be extremely careful; when disabling any process, you need to know what it is responsible for so as not to harm the OS. Below I will give a small list of what can be excluded and what can be switched to manual mode.

What programs can I disable?

To do this you need to log in Service Management by right-clicking on the My Computer shortcut, which is located on yours, or selecting Computer. In the menu that appears, select Control

then click on Services and applications and the last point Services. Here you can see all the necessary and unnecessary programs running in the background; in total, I have more than 150 of them!

First of all, I advise you to look through the entire list and find some familiar programs that you may have installed and simply disable them.

For example: torrent clients µTorrent or BitComet you can safely disable them, unless of course you distribute some files day and night. Program Skype(Skype) if you call once a month, then why will it waste resources every day?

Also with other programs, if there is no need for it to work every minute, feel free to stop it. Do not be confused in any way, disabling a program does not mean it will not work in the future! When you need it, just run it with , as you usually do.

Background mode is a standby mode, that is, the program is always running, although it is not used.

And finally, the list I promised Windows services which can be disabled for sure or switched to manual mode.

Parental Control– turn off
KtmRm for distributed transaction coordinator– manually
Adaptive adjustment— disabling brightness is necessary only for PC owners. with built-in light sensor for automatic adjustment monitor brightness
WWAN auto setup– disable if you do not have CDMA or GSM modules
Windows Firewall– disable it if your antivirus has this service
Computer browser– translate manually when not used local network
Support IP Service– turn off
Secondary login– disable or manually
Dispatcher automatic connections remote access – disable or manually
Print Manager– turn it off if we don’t use the printer
Windows Defender– disable it, a completely unnecessary service
Distributed Transaction Coordinator– turn off
NetBIOS Support Module– disable, but provided that there is no local network (connection of 2 computers or more)
Setting up a Remote Desktop Server– turn off
Bluetooth support– we turn it off, I don’t think this is relevant now.
Download service Windows images(WIA)– if you use a scanner, you don’t touch anything
Remote service Windows management – turn off
Remote Desktop Service– turn off
Smartcard– turn off
Tablet PC input service– turn off
Remote registry– everything is generally bad here; there is an opinion that this is a kind of open door for a virus that can change system registry. Definitely disable
Fax– we turn it off, it’s completely a thing of the past.

To disable a service, double-click on it with the left mouse button, a window will open where we change the value Startup type from Automatic to Disabled then Stop//Apply//OK. This is how we deal with every service we dislike.

This is the list of services that I was able to find out about; I will be glad if anyone can add to it in the comments to this article.

This article is over, but the topic of optimization will be continued, subscribe to updates so as not to miss it and other subsequent articles.

If you want your computer to run a little faster, you need to keep an eye on RAM. The more free volume it has, the faster operations and various other actions that the user does are performed. It should be remembered that not only loaded programs and open tabs browser. That's all background processes, and running services, and files reserved by closed utilities.

Now we’ll talk about disabling unnecessary services in Windows, and we’ll use a special program for this.

Easy Service Optimizer – free program in Russian, using which even an inexperienced user can manage services in operating system. The interface is very simple. The utility is portable, so you do not need to install it on your computer. Compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10.

You can download Easy Service Optimizer from the link at the bottom of the article from Yandex Disk. After that, open the “Downloads” folder on your computer and run the “eso” archive.

Extract the archived folder to any location comfortable spot on the computer.

You can download Easy Service Optimizer from the official website. To do this, go to their page (the address is circled in a rectangle in the screenshot below). You will find a download button called “Download” at the end of the article before the recommended posts and comments.

After extracting the “eso” folder from the archive, open it and run the file with the same name, opposite which will be written “Application”.

If you have the default interface language selected (English), then click on the “Options” - “Languages” tab and select the one you need from the list.

Now let's look at how to use the program. The main program window will display a list of services that can be optimized. Opposite each one, you can check or uncheck the box; this must be done, since the application installed settings and restoration only applies to those marked with a bird.

There is a label at the top that is displayed in the columns. At the bottom there are four tabs with modes. You need to choose the right one from them. When they change, the data in the column changes "Type of application". So “By default”, many services are started by the user manually or automatically, but if you select “Extreme”, then almost all of them will be disabled.

There is no need to disable all services in a row, as this may lead to problems with the system.

You can view a list of all Windows services by clicking on the button with two gears at the top.

In the program window, any of them can be edited: select it with the mouse and click the button "Edit…" up.

A window with basic information will open. Below you can set a specific launch type for each mode separately. Save your changes by clicking OK.

If you understand a little about what a service does, you can highlight it and disable it or start it using the appropriate buttons.

After selecting the appropriate mode: “Safe”, “Optimal”, “Extreme”, and marking the required fields, you can proceed to applying the settings by clicking on the button with the image of a rocket. After this, the selected services will either be disabled or started.

Since not all services have been added to the list, you can do this yourself. To do this, open them all by clicking on the button with two gears, double-click on the one you need and look at its name.

Now we return to the program window again and click on the button at the top "Add new". Next, enter the name that you remember, the rest of the information will be filled in automatically. Specify launch types for modes and click “Add”.

To remove a service from the list, select it and click at the top "Delete selected".

Please note that the service itself will not be deleted, it will simply disappear from the displayed list for optimization in the program. You can add it at any time using the method described above.

In order to return all settings to default, you need to click on the “Services” tab and select "Reset list".

Select a location on your computer and name it so you can understand it. In the “File type” field we leave everything as it is. Click "Save".

So you can create several files with various settings. To select one of them, open “File” – “Open” and click on the desired item. Next, click on the rocket icon to apply the settings to the marked services.

After disabling unnecessary services, the computer will work faster, this will be especially noticeable on those PCs with RAM sticks with a small amount of memory installed. Therefore, download the Easy Service Optimizer program and it will help you solve this problem.
