There are several ways to write a file to an external storage device designed for storing, transferring information, as well as for exchanging data and Reserve copy files – i.e. flash drive or USB flash drive. You can record using file managers, similar Total Commander, but we will use the tools of the Windows system itself.

Let's consider the simplest option for recording or, in other words, copying small-sized image files. Let's connect the USB flash drive to the PC. Open the folder with the picture you like on your computer and select one photo, for example, a kitten. Let's click on it with the right mouse button. In the window that opens, find the “Send” command in the list and then select your flash drive as the destination. The second option is a little more complicated - it starts in the same way, only in the window from the list, click “Copy”. Next, open the flash drive and click anywhere. We select “Paste” from the list, and the cat is copied. You can also use the function of transferring files from one folder to another using simple mouse manipulation. Open a window with files, and the drive window next to it. Hover your mouse over the image, selecting it with the left mouse button, pull it and drag it to the desired location. Where you release the mouse, there is an image and “land”. To record several selective files at once, you need to hold down the “Ctrl” key and left-click on the desired photos, selecting them, or hold down the “Shift” modifier key - this is a quick selection of pictures one after another. Having selected it, you either set the commands “Copy” and “Paste”, or drag it using one mouse. Copying large files to a storage device larger than 4 GB may cause minor difficulties. Available for sale USB flash drives formatted in the FAT32 file system, which does not allow recording files weighing more than 4 GB. To record a movie with the .mkv or .dvd extension on a device up to 16 GB in size, you must format it in the NTFS system. Open “My Computer” and right-click on the removable drive. Select “Format” from the list and select the NTFS file system. In this case it will do quick formatting, which means: check the box and activate the “Start” button. Now there should be no difficulties with recording large files.

The last formatting option is provided for files larger than 4 GB. If your flash drive has small size, then deep cleaning in NTFS is impractical and can reduce the service life of the drive, and it will also not be possible to view information from it on DVD player and if necessary, create a bootable USB drive.

How to transfer photos from a computer to a flash drive?

It’s easier than a steamed turnip - just drag and drop the photos you need with the left mouse button onto the flash drive. We open the flash drive in My Computer, if necessary.

To transfer photos from your computer to a flash drive, you must first do this removable media connect to your computer via USB port.

The computer will detect and install the new device (if it has not been connected to it before).

I transfer photos to a flash drive in two ways:

I copy necessary files with photos and opening the flash drive, just like we open any disk in the My Computer section, I insert them there.

While looking through the photos, I click on File - Save As and in the My Computer section I select a removable disk (flash drive) where I want to add the photo.

First, you need to connect the flash drive via a USB connector to the computer and wait until the computer detects it. A window should open with various combinations of actions, including Open device. If you are sure that the flash drive is safe, then click Open without hesitation, otherwise you need to find the flash drive through My Computer and scan it with an antivirus program before opening it.

Next, open the folder where the photos that we want to transfer are located. If we want to copy a photo, we use the Copy-Paste steps. If we want to transfer photos so that they are not left on the computer, then Cut-Paste.

Then, using Safely Remove Hardware, I disconnect the flash drive so that there are no errors.

To do this, you must first insert the flash drive into its slot on the system unit. Then open the folder containing the photo that needs to be transferred to the flash drive.

    • you can simply grab and drag the photo with the mouse (by clicking and holding the left mouse button on the photo)
    • You can also click on the photo right click mouse and in the list that opens select send, and then the name of the flash drive
  • You can upload a photo by copying or dragging with the left mouse button.

The most reliable thing is to copy and paste the photos into a folder that you should create on a flash drive.

The first method is to circle the photos with the left mouse button - copy, then you need to open the flash drive and paste, move the photos to the folder.

The second method can be copied from the key combination: Ctrl+C(copy) and Ctrl+V(insert), all photos are moved to a folder.

But it’s also worth remembering that the flash drive needs to be removed from the computer in safe mode, or otherwise the photos will not be saved.

Or right mouse button + send + select a flash drive.

    Good luck!

There are three main ways to transfer photos from a computer to a flash drive. First you need to insert the USB flash drive into your computer:

    1. Mark one or more photos (you can mark several photos with the mouse while holding down the control key), then right-click on them, select Send and select a flash drive (for example, removable drive H). The photos were loaded onto the flash drive.
    2. Mark photos in the same way, copy them (either with the right mouse button or by pressing the controll and C buttons), then open the flash drive and press control and V or right-click paste. Photo on a flash drive.
    3. Or simply drag the selected photos with the left mouse button onto the flash drive.
  • To transfer a photo to a flash drive, you must first, as usual, connect the flash drive to your computer, then right-click on the desired photo and select copy (if the photo is on a computer), then open the flash drive through My Computer and paste the photo (by right-clicking in an empty space mouse button and selecting Insert.

If we found the photo we need on the Internet, then we first need to save it on the computer, and then do the same steps.

Insert the flash drive into Computer USB, then open the flash drive. Perform the following actions on your computer with photos, select them, copy and paste them onto an open flash drive. You can also save photos while viewing them, select the Save As option in the File Menu and find the USB flash drive on your computer, then save it there. You can also stand on the photo and right-click and click the option to send to a flash drive. In addition, you can drag and drop photos from your computer onto an open flash drive.

It's very easy to do. Take your flash drive and insert it into one of the USB connectors. Your Personal Computer will recognize this device and give you a message about it. In the window that appears, you select: Open device for viewing.

Choose the place where you want to copy the photo, you can create new folder or select an existing one on your drive. Now select the required photo, right-click, a window pops up, select copy.

And also on flash drives, right-click and select insert (in the location you previously selected). And it is easily copied to your flash drive. Good luck.

This is easy and simple to do.

First, insert the flash drive into the computer and open it. Find the folder where you want to dump the photos. If there is none, then create it.

Your photos can be either on your desktop or on local disk D. Go to where your photos are. Select them, right-click and select copy.

Then you click on the arrow at the top, which means back, and you go back to the flash drive. Right-click and select insert line.

Photos are saved on your computer and on a flash drive.

    1) right-click on the photo - in the Send drop-down menu - select flash

    2) right-click on the photo - in the Copy drop-down menu - then My Computer - open the flash drive - Paste

    3) With ostracism. Open photo for viewing. File - Save As - My Computer - select the flash drive - Ok - close the photo.

    4) Open a window with a flash drive, next to it open a window with a photo (almost the same option with a file manager, such as Total Commander or Q-Dir). Just drag the photo with the mouse from one window to another.

Transfer files
from computer to flash drive/disk.
And from a flash drive/disk to a computer.

Very often computer users need to save
some files, be it keys to electronic wallets, photos, text documents, music, etc. – to external media.

And vice versa, having on external media
some files – download them to your computer.

Such external media information, among others, are
flash drives ( USB Flash Drive) and discs (CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD, etc.).

Working with a flash drive on a computer

Flash drive

Flash drives are different. Both in terms of memory capacity and appearance.
In the picture, the flash drive has a retractable connector. In order to
pull out the connector - there is a special button on the side panel.

Your computer has USB ports that
and insert flash drives, mouse, etc.

On a laptop, USB connectors are located mainly on the side panels
bottom of the laptop. Depending on how sophisticated it is, there can be two or four connectors on one side.

On a desktop computer, USB connectors may be located on the front panel System unit, and on the back. Take both horizontal and vertical positions.

So, let's start working with the flash drive.

Open the “Computer” folder through the “Start” button
(or "My Computer"). Insert into the USB connector on the computer,
flash drive. After a short time in the “Computer” folder, it will appear
"Removable drive".

In my screenshot, this is the drive (E:). It may have a different designation for you. It is important that when loading the flash drive you have the “Computer” folder open. And then you will see for yourself what designation “Removable disk” will appear in this folder.

With the advent of a removable disk in the “Computer” folder, Kaspersky
will offer you options for checking files from the disk for viruses.

And just like that, with the appearance of a removable disk in the “Computer” folder,
On the taskbar (below the screen), a removable disk icon will appear.

Later, this icon may take place in the “Display Area”
hidden icons" (like mine). And when you hover your mouse over this
icon – the following message will appear.

We will need this for safe removal
flash drives after completing the planned work.

In the meantime, let's look at the "Computer" folder.
If you already have files on the flash drive, then below the removable disk
It will be written how much is free from the total volume of the flash drive.

Open the removable disk (E:) - either double click, or right-click and select “Open”. In a separate window, open the folder with the file that you are going to transfer to the flash drive (or vice versa from the flash drive to the folder). Right-click on the file you want to transfer and select from context menu"Copy".

Go to the folder where you are transferring the file, right-click
mouse over the white field of the window and select “Insert” from the context menu.

If the file is large enough, you will see
the copying process is in a new window, with a green scale.

And when you paste a file into a new folder, you will also see the pasting process.
And if the file is small, it will simply appear in a new location.
That's all! The transfer took place.

If you want to delete something unnecessary on the flash drive, then right-click on the file you no longer need and select “Delete” from the context menu. In a new window, confirm the deletion, click “Yes” and the file will be deleted. And again, depending on the volume - either immediately, if the volume is small, or with a new window and a green scale.

If the file you transfer from your computer to a flash drive
is no longer needed on your computer, then instead of copying you can
use the "drag and drop" method.
How to do this - see the page
My computer (in the right column).

Safely removing a flash drive from a computer

Safely removing a flash drive

To safely remove the flash drive, click on the flash drive icon
on the taskbar. Or, as I have in the “Hidden Icon Display Area”.
The following dialog will appear

Click on the button “Extract the name of your flash drive here.”
After a short time a confirmation will appear that you can
remove the flash drive from the connector.

That's all. You can take out the flash drive.

How to transfer files from computer to disk

Disk

On a laptop, the “Disk Drive” is located with right side bottom of the laptop.
And on a desktop computer, the “Disk Drive” is most often located on the front panel of the System unit.

Open the “Computer” (or “My Computer”) folder through the “Start” button, remove the drive - either manually by pressing the button on the drive, or in the “Computer” folder, left-click on “Disk Drive (D:)”, on the top panel The "Extract" button will appear. Click this button and the drive will open. Insert your disc into the drive and close it.

After a short time, the “Autorun” window will appear and, if your disk is blank, it will offer you the “Burn files to disk” option. If there are files on the disk, it will prompt you to “Open folder to view files.” In both cases, choose these options.

If the disk is blank and you clicked the “Burn files to disk” option, a new window will open with the question “How do you plan to use the disk?” Select “As a USB flash drive” and click “Next” at the bottom. After this, the disk will be formatted and a new window will open with the “Open folder to view files” button. Click and a folder will open in which it will be written: “Use your mouse to drag files into this folder to write them to this disk.”

If, after you insert a blank DVD into the drive, AutoRun does not automatically open, then click on the drive in the Computer folder to highlight it. Then click the “Burn to CD” button on the panel. A window will appear where you confirm that you are using the disk as a flash drive. And then the disk formatting will begin.

You can also open “Autorun” from the panel.

If the disk already contains files, then after loading the disk a window will appear prompting you to “Open a folder to view files.” At the bottom of the “Computer” folder you will see information about the loaded disk, including the amount of free space. Click on the “Open folder to view files” button and the folder with your files will open. You can add files to this folder (if the amount of free space allows) by copying or dragging files from your computer. Or vice versa - transfer it from this folder to your computer.

Just like on a flash drive - if the file is no longer needed on the computer, you can drag and drop it. And if you need a file or don’t want to drag it, then just like on a flash drive, you copied it in one place and pasted it into another. You can also delete files that are no longer needed on the disk using the right mouse button. When finished, click the “Eject” button on the panel and wait until the program prepares for ejection and opens the drive itself. I don’t recommend removing it manually using the drive button - you can damage the disk and it will no longer be usable.

Flash drives vary in memory capacity and appearance.

You can take out the flash drive.

Hello dear visitors. Yesterday they asked me a question: what should I do? I can't send it off large file to a flash drive? The system says that there is not enough disk space, but there is enough space on the flash drive. It was necessary to copy a movie of about 9 GB in size to a 16 GB flash drive. If you think logically, then everything should fit, but the system refused to put such a large file on a flash drive and that’s it.

I knew what was going on, and while I was explaining what needed to be done, a bright thought appeared in my head that I should write about this on a blog, so I’m actually writing it :). Let me explain why first large files, to be precise, files larger than 4 GB do not want to be written to the flash drive and a message appears that there is not enough disk space.

The fact is that when you buy a flash drive, it is already formatted in file system FAT32, and the file system is FAT32 does not support files larger than 4 GB. Here's the thing, it's very simple. We need to change the file system of the flash drive from FAT32 to NTFS. Because the NTFS file system supports, if I'm not mistaken, files up to 16 GB.

This question is becoming more and more relevant every day, because the size of memory on flash drives is growing and they are becoming cheaper every day. You can already buy a 16 GB flash drive for the same money that a year ago you could only buy a 4 GB one.

We just need to change the file system of our flash drive from FAT32 to NTFS. I will now write two ways in which this can be done.

Format the flash drive to the NTFS file system

I have already written about how. But I think it wouldn’t hurt to repeat it again and pay special attention to the fact that we are formatting it into an NTFS system.

Attention! Formatting a flash drive will destroy all information on it. Make sure that your flash drive does not contain the files you need. If there are, then copy them to your computer.

We connect the flash drive to the computer, wait until the computer recognizes it, go to "My computer" and right-click on our flash drive, select "Format".

A window will open in which we need to select the NTFS file system, select and click “Start”. We agree to the system warning.

After the formatting process is completed, you will receive a clean flash drive with file NTFS system, to which you can copy large files.

Converting a flash drive to NTFS for writing large files

The second method is to simply convert the flash drive to NTFS, this method essentially differs from the first, only in that the files you have on the flash drive will not be lost. But I still advise you not to risk it and copy the necessary files to your computer.

Our flash drive is connected and recognized by the computer. We go to “Start”, "All programs", “Standard” and select “Run”. Or just press Win+R. A window will open in which we write the command cmd and click “Ok”.

A window will open in which we need to enter a command to convert the flash drive to NTFS:

convert k : /fs:ntfs /nosecurity /x

Where k is the letter that the computer assigned to your flash drive, go to "My computer" and see what letter you have. Enter this command and press “Enter”.

Once completed, a report will appear:
