The modern smartphone user is a spoiled creature, accustomed to the fact that there are always devices on sale for every taste and with any technical characteristics. Therefore, manufacturers bend over backwards to please him. One needs a large phablet, another needs a compact phone for everyday carry, a third needs a powerful gaming model, and so on.

with a 4.5-inch screen - a solution for those who find a 5-inch display too large and a 4-inch display too small. Let's see what else is interesting about him.

Appearance

Samsung GALAXY Core Prime Duos looks strict and elegant. The case is made of plastic, the build quality is good, there is a nice metallic frame along the perimeter of the case. There is no particular variety of colors expected; there is a white model, dark gray and silver.

The case thickness is 8.8 mm, which is average, so the device cannot be called either thin or thick. It fits well in the palm of your hand and is easy to operate with one hand.

The button layout is standard, the on/off and lock button is on one side, the volume button is on the other, they fit well under your fingers, regardless of which hand you hold the device with. And it’s good that the developers did not experiment with placing controls in unexpected places.

Screen

The resolution of the 4.5-inch screen is 480 x 800 pixels and this is more than enough, especially considering that Samsung displays are considered the best in the world today, pleasing the eye with a bright, clear and contrasting picture.

"Filling"

The smartphone is powered by a quad-core processor with a clock frequency of 1.2 GHz, supported by 1 GB random access memory. This is a good combination for devices of this level; performance is okay. Smooth operation and the absence of any slowdowns, lags, freezes and other troubles will definitely please you. Samsung GALAXY Core Prime Duos easily copes with any tasks, everything quickly opens and closes, starts, locates, etc. When tested in AnTuTu, it scored 7,470 points. What can be said about this? There are smartphones of the same category that scored more points, and there are those that received worse scores. So Samsung's performance Galaxy Core Prime Duos are average, to say the least.

The amount of permanent memory on this device is 8 GB, in addition you can use microSD card and increase the memory by another 64 GB. With such a card, you can carry with you a good selection of films, a solid collection of music, and a really huge number of photographs will be included there.

The capacity of the removable battery is 2,000 mAh. The developers assure that with such a battery you can:

Talk – up to 10 hours;
watch video – 9 hours;
listen to music – up to 40 hours;
work on the Internet from 9 to 11 hours (depending on whether you access the network via 3G or Wi-Fi).

At average operating intensity, the battery charge will definitely last for a day, or even more. In addition, Samsung's proprietary energy saving mode is implemented here, in which unnecessary functions are disabled, and the picture on the screen becomes black and white. If you're waiting for an important call, this mode will help you seriously stretch the remaining charge in the battery.

Cameras

As for the main samsung cameras GALAXY Core Prime Duos, then it can be called standard: 5-megapixel matrix, LED flash. This a good option for the amateur photographer who wants to be able to save as a souvenir what he sees around him.

But if you expected to see a front camera with a 0.3-megapixel matrix in this device, then we will please you: there is a more powerful 2-megapixel camera here. This is, of course, not ideal, but it is very pleasant to use. It is suitable for video communication and for taking good “selfies”.

Communication capabilities

Wi-Fi for connecting to the Internet, Bluetooth for synchronizing with other devices, GPS for using various navigation applications - the smartphone has it all.

Samsung GALAXY Core Prime Duos also has two slots for SIM cards of the microSIM standard. This solution is used quite often today, because thanks to it you can use two numbers from one device. Why is this necessary? The traditional option is a convenient separation of contacts, for example, you allocate one number only for personal contacts, another - exclusively for work, and on weekends the second number can be turned off so that your bosses and colleagues do not disturb or interrupt your legitimate rest.

An interesting “trick” is the “Search for Smartphone” function. If your device was suddenly stolen, if you lost it, and so on, using this function you can track its location online, initiate a call from it to find out where it is, block its operation, and even delete it from a distance. his personal data and confidential information.

Samsung Galaxy Core Prime review

Today we are reviewing a new product from Samsung Galaxy smartphone The Core Prime is a device with average specifications and an affordable price, with some caveats, however, given its affordability, the device can safely be considered a contender for purchase.

Design:

The device is presented in a standard monoblock form factor. It is surrounded by a silver plastic edging along the edges. The display has a 4.5-inch diagonal. Below the screen there are 2 touch keys and one mechanical button. A 2-megapixel webcam is nestled above the display. The physical dimensions of the smartphone are 131.3x68.4x8.8 mm, it fits comfortably in the hand and is quite pleasant to use; moreover, thanks to its not very large dimensions, it does not tend to slip out of your hands. The set of keys is quite typical. On the right is the on/off key, on the left is the volume rocker, at the bottom is a micro-USB port, and at the top is a 3.5 mm headset slot.

Hardware:

TFT display - 4.5 inches, 16 million colors, supports up to 5 touches, resolution 480X800 pixels. The screen is quite bright, but when tilted it loses a little contrast.

The Galaxy Core Prime has a 4-core processor from Qualcomm (MSM-8916) with a frequency of 1.2 GHz, as well as an Adreno 306 coprocessor. RAM (ARM) 1 GB, built-in storage of 8 GB of which about 5 are available to the user , there is a slot for memory cards up to 64 GB. The smartphone operates on the Android OS 4.4.4 (KitKat) platform, updates to Android versions 5.0 Lollipop probably shouldn't be expected.

Camera:

The main camera module has a 5-megapixel resolution and supports LED flash with autofocus. Maximum resolution 2592X1944 px. Front matrix - 2 Mps. Maximum video resolution 1280X720. There is an accelerometer and a proximity sensor.

The smartphone received a 2000 mAh battery. Under normal load, the Galaxy Core Prime will last from morning to evening. Continuous video viewing (720P) with 60% brightness - 6 hours 11 minutes. Internet surfing at 50% brightness - 12 hours 53 minutes. After 2 hours of playing Angry Birds with 70% brightness, 61% of the charge remains from 100%.

Conclusions:

Galaxy Core Prime turned out to be absolutely typical, and yet, this smartphone has many more pros than cons. Of course, I would like to see some innovations in terms of design, however, the classics have not yet lost their relevance. We confidently recommend the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime for purchase, especially for those whose budget is limited, but really want to get a truly reliable smartphone.

TFT IPS- High quality liquid crystal matrix. It has wide viewing angles, one of the best indicators of color rendering quality and contrast among all those used in the production of displays for portable equipment.
Super AMOLED- if a regular AMOLED screen uses several layers, between which there is an air gap, then in Super AMOLED there is only one such touch layer without air gaps. This allows you to achieve greater screen brightness with the same power consumption.
Super AMOLED HD- differs from Super AMOLED in its higher resolution, thanks to which you can achieve 1280x720 pixels on a mobile phone screen.
Super AMOLED plus- this is a new generation of Super AMOLED displays, differs from the previous one by using a larger number of subpixels in a conventional RGB matrix. The new displays are 18% thinner and brighter than displays made using the old PenTile technology.
AMOLED- an improved version of OLED technology. The main advantages of the technology are significantly reduced power consumption, the ability to display larger color scheme, smaller thickness and the ability of the display to bend a little without the risk of breaking.
Retina-high pixel density display designed specifically for Apple technology. The pixel density of Retina displays is such that individual pixels are indistinguishable to the eye at a normal distance from the screen. This ensures the highest image detail and significantly improves the overall viewing experience.
Super Retina HD- the display is made using OLED technology. The pixel density is 458 PPI, the contrast reaches 1,000,000:1. The display has an extended color gamut and unsurpassed color accuracy. Pixels in the corners of the display are smoothed at the sub-pixel level, so edges are not distorted and appear smooth. The Super Retina HD reinforcing layer is 50% thicker. It will be harder to break the screen.
Super LCD is the next generation of LCD technology, it is characterized by improved characteristics compared to earlier LCD displays. The screens not only have wide viewing angles and better color reproduction, but also lower power consumption.
TFT- A common type of liquid crystal display. Using an active matrix controlled by thin-film transistors, it is possible to significantly increase the performance of the display, as well as the contrast and clarity of the image.
OLED- organic electroluminescent display. It consists of a special thin-film polymer that emits light when exposed to an electric field. This type of display has a large reserve of brightness and consumes very little energy.

Samsung does not want to leave the fight for the segment budget smartphones and following last year's Galaxy Core 2 with the updated and improved Samsung Galaxy Core Prime. What has improved? Firstly, the camera. A decent camera now shoots HD video and takes good pictures for 5 megapixels. Secondly, performance. The smartphone runs on a more recent chipset, with which the system interface works quite quickly, and the hardware even allows you to play most games. Thirdly, Samsung increased the amount of memory, both built-in and RAM, to 8 and 1 GB, respectively. By and large, there are no other changes. Among the advantages, we also note support for two SIM cards and very good time battery life for a capacity of 2000 mAh - up to 7 hours of HD video viewing at maximum brightness!

However, the main drawback of the model remains the same - the display. This is not an IPS screen, it has a low resolution, no protective glass and no oleophobic coating. The smartphone doesn't even have a brightness sensor! The only advantage of the display is good viewing angles.

We can only recommend it for purchase if a clear display is not that important to you. By and large, a smartphone is worth its money, but for 9,000 rubles you can find models with better formal characteristics on the market. However, in practice it turns out that they have worse cameras and batteries or are less reliable in use. And the range of functions and capabilities is poorer (from interface features to settings in the browser and multimedia).

Dimensions - 4.2

The Samsung Galaxy Core Prime smartphone can be called compact among budget phones with the same diagonal. The weight of the phone is 130 g, dimensions are 131 × 68 × 9.1 mm, which is comparable to the LG L70, which was 5 grams lighter and slightly shorter (127 mm), or the Nokia Lumia 630, which has a thicker body and is heavier a few grams and only a couple of millimeters shorter and at same. If you're looking for ease of use with one hand, then the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime may well be for you - it fits comfortably in your hand thanks to its rounded corners and slightly sloping lid.

As you can see from the photo, there is a “classic” silver frame at the ends of the smartphone, thanks to which the side frames around the display look a little at the same, since the frame slightly envelops the front panel and rises slightly above it.

Externally, the smartphone is more similar to the Galaxy Grand Prime than to previous Galaxy Core. In our opinion, it looks nice, but almost the same as many of the company's other smartphones. The back of the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime we purchased is made of a semi-glossy, impractical material that easily picks up scratches and even small chips. As for the build quality in general, Samsung did not disappoint here - the smartphone is well assembled, the body does not creak when pressed, and the lid is easy to remove and closes tightly.

The Samsung Galaxy Core Prime smartphone can be purchased in black, white and gray colors.

Screen - 3.3

The Samsung Galaxy Core Prime uses a 4.5-inch non-IPS display with no oleophobic coating or protective glass. Same as with Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime, on the display, it seems they decided to save money. The screen resolution is 800x480 pixels, the pixel density is low - 207 per inch, this is especially noticeable after working with clear displays. While working with the screen, we sometimes even wanted to wipe the display: it seemed that fine dirt had stuck to it, but no, it’s just individual pixels that catch your eye. The screen has average viewing angles and good brightness for a budget phone - up to 385 cd/m2. The minimum brightness, in our opinion, is too high for reading in the dark - about 24 cd/m2. In the sun, the display did not behave well - it is possible to read or view something, but it is not easy on the eyes.

The display collects fingerprints very easily, and it is better to wipe them off with special means. Glove mode is not supported. Unexpectedly, the savings even affected the light sensor - you don’t have to look for the auto-brightness function on your phone. As a result, the display does not leave positive emotions, and this is at a time when IPS matrices and even protective glass are no longer such a rarity for budget models, such as Asus Zenfone 4 or Explay Tornado.

Camera

The smartphone has a 5 MP main camera and a 2 MP front camera. The main camera has a flash and autofocus; the standard set only lacks an HDR mode. The maximum resolution for photos is 2592x1944 pixels, and for video recording - 1280x720 pixels. Recording speed is 30 frames per second, sound is recorded in mono mode. There's no autofocus tracking, so you'll have to tap the display to focus. In the camera's arsenal you can find many modes - from shooting panoramas to retouching and night shots, as well as many effects - sepia, negative and others.

As for the shooting quality, it is good for today’s “typical” resolution - in good lighting, as tests have shown, the frames are clear and saturated, autofocus usually works clearly. However, as is usually the case, the quality drops as the illumination deteriorates - for example, in the room the camera began to make a noticeable “noise”, and in some of our frames it “appeared” green. You can see this by looking at the photos below. Generally speaking, the camera is good for what it does price segment and resolution and can be suitable for passing shots.

Working with text - 3.0

Samsung Galaxy Core Prime comes pre-installed with a convenient branded keyboard, with the ability to switch to 3x4 format, like on the old ones push-button phones. Simple text input, in our opinion, is convenient. Gesture input (Swype) works well, and to switch between languages you need to lightly press the spacebar and drag to the side. There is no marking of additional characters, only quick dialing of numbers from the top row of keys. The keyboard is convenient for typing text, but sometimes the layout of additional characters may be missing.

Internet - 5.0

Samsung Galaxy Core Prime uses a browser Google Chrome with synchronization of tabs with the desktop version and the standard “Browser”. The first has a one-time auto-fitting of text to the screen size using a double click, search on the page and a number of other typical features. The Browser has auto-fit text, reading mode and functions quick control— when you swipe your finger from the edge of the display, control panel icons are revealed in a fan pattern. In general, in our opinion, the browser is quite functional.

Interfaces

In terms of interfaces samsung smartphone Galaxy Core Prime didn't surprise us at all. It supports a standard set of interfaces, like any tablet or smartphone: Wi-Fi (b/g/n), with the ability to distribute the Internet to other devices, Bluetooth v4.0 with support for the A2DP profile, A-GPS with support for GLONASS and Beidou. Count on 4G in budget model no, although an LTE version of the smartphone exists, but not for the Russian market.

The smartphone has a headset jack on the top edge and a Micro-USB 2.0 connector at the bottom without MHL support(which is not surprising for a budget employee) and USB OTG. The phone has two slots for Micro SIM cards and one radio module; if you use one SIM card and simultaneously call the second, you will not be available.

Multimedia - 2.2

We ran various audio and video files on a smartphone to check which formats the built-in players supported and backed up the results with AnTuTu applications Video Tester. Multimedia capabilities smartphones turned out to be average, it played videos up to Full HD resolutions, however, it often did not play videos MKV format, MPG and didn't even find AVI files. As for audio, in our tests the smartphone did not detect uncompressed FLAC audio, but there were no problems with WAV. The video player is simple but functional - it easily plays Full HD video, and also allows you to adjust the brightness and show external subtitles.

Battery - 2.9

It would seem that, Samsung display Galaxy Core Prime is quite bright when compared to budget phones, and the capacity is typical - 2000 mAh, which is sort of average. However, in terms of viewing time for HD video at maximum brightness, the smartphone outperforms most tested devices - almost 7 hours, longer than the iPhone 6 itself in our tests! But in audio player mode it slightly “failed” and was discharged in 43 hours - an average result. For example, Explay Tornado lasted 10 hours longer under the same scenario.

Because of charger with an output current of only 0.7 A, the Galaxy Core Prime takes a long time to charge, almost three hours. By the way, the charger is “non-separable” with a thin cable, although recently chargers have been consistently released together with a USB cable that can be pulled out of the charger - it seems convenient, but the thin “single” charging cable takes up less volume.

Performance - 1.7

The device uses the latest 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) chipset - four cores, frequency up to 1.2 GHz, graphics platform - Adreno 306, RAM - standard 1 GB. In daily work, the smartphone hardly slows down, only slightly when scrolling through desktops. It is unlikely to be suitable as a gaming platform, but most games run, and heavy games run quite well at low settings. For example, Minion Rush, like on smartphones based on MediaTek MT6582M, took a long time to load in our tests, but practically did not slow down. Regarding benchmarks, the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime smartphone on average obtained results only slightly higher than many quad-core budget phones on MediaTek (for example,

Memory - 3.5

Volume internal memory Samsung phone Galaxy Core Prime is 8 GB, of which about 5.47 GB is available to the user. There is a memory card slot; cards up to 64 GB are supported. It is possible to hot-swap the card.

Peculiarities

The smartphone works under Android control 4.4.4, with a proprietary, lightweight TouchWiz interface that generally works quickly. The smartphone doesn’t have many features - it supports two micro-SIM cards, which won’t surprise anyone, and there are flash notifications for people with hearing problems. They decided not to fill the phone's memory with unnecessary software: in addition to standard things and Google services, there is only a radio (works with headphones), a store Google applications Apps and file manager- nothing superfluous, which is good for a small amount of built-in memory.

Competitors

For winter 2015 Samsung of the Year Galaxy Core Prime costs 8,990 rubles. A competitor can be any smartphone with a similar diagonal, a lower price and with the same characteristics, if not better. For example, let's compare it with Lenovo A328 and LG L Fino.

In terms of characteristics, Lenovo A328 is very similar to Samsung. Similar in power, but older filling, display Lenovo smartphone in fact it turned out to be even a little worse. As for the battery, with the same capacity it gives different results in different usage scenarios: when watching video, Samsung turned out to be the leader; when listening to music, the A328 took the lead. To top it off, we can say that the Lenovo A328 has only 4 GB of internal memory, but today it costs almost 2,000 rubles less.

LG L Fino is 200 rubles more expensive and offers an 8 MP camera, IPS matrix and protective glass Gorilla Glass, similar battery life and original control buttons on the back of the device. But Samsung has more internal memory (8 GB versus 4 GB), a better front camera and a more recent and powerful chipset.
