The main feature of Fallout 76 is, of course, multiplayer. It is worth remembering that even in an interview with Noclip studio - on which in-game documentary videos regularly appear - Bethesda, that the idea of ​​​​an online mode came to the company while working on. After its release, work began on a sequel. Using the Fallout 4 engine, Fallout 76 is very similar both overall and in specific details.

Graphics - almost unchanged

Fallout 76 does not have any graphical innovations: the picture as a whole has become more pleasant, but the game does not bring any specific miracles. Some materials are carried over directly from the previous part: Feral Ghouls, for example, look and behave exactly the same as their counterparts from Fallout 4.

The overall color scheme has changed: instead of the bright colors of the Commonwealth from Fallout 4, you can observe the expanses of West Virginia in the warm tones of autumn forest leaves, which are regularly replaced by green meadows and plains.

Interface - slightly changed

Things with the interface are somewhat different: it is also taken from Fallout 4, but there will be more new details here. This is due to the addition of multiplayer and the inability to pause the game. This forced the developers to add a “quick inventory”: you can put weapons and equipment in the radial menu cells without opening the entire inventory.

The usual inventory has also been supplemented. Now you can choose whether to use the Pip-Boy - the interface of which, with the exception of small parts, copies the model from Fallout 4 - or the menu that opens when used power armor(also, by the way, from the mentioned part).

And here is a map from Pip-Boy. In all previous parts of the series, the map was displayed in two colors on the device of the shelter resident. Now you need to navigate Appalachia (the official name of the game area) using a separate, similar to a tourist map. Functionally, it is no different from analogues from previous Fallouts, but visually it has been transformed - the two-color design has been replaced by a hand-drawn tourist version.

Directly during the game, the Fallout 76 interface was replenished with new elements. Above the health points (HP) bar is a list of team members, their level of HP and radiation exposure. Above the Action Points (AP) bar are hunger and thirst bars. The survival-oriented RPG forces you to monitor the condition of your character, keeping him fed and watered.

Active quests are now displayed in the upper right corner: both your own and those of your team members. Without taking up much space, they allow you to track your progress without having to check the menu.

Gameplay - minor changes

Game mechanics accounted for the most changes: some were tailored to single player game and needed change. In particular, we are talking about the system. Since , when V.A.T.S was activated, time would stop, allowing the player to target specific body parts, and shots would be fired automatically with a certain chance of hitting.

In Fallout 76, the operating principle of V.A.T.S is different: time no longer stops, and the shot is fired immediately after selection. A specific body part can only be selected if the player has the required perk from the Perception characteristic. The shot also occurs automatically, and it also has a certain chance of hitting the target.

Separately, you can notice an improvement in the construction system from Fallout 4. Compared to it, many more objects will be available in Fallout 76 - both structural (options for walls, floors, foundations, roofs), and decorative and functional. For one type of item you can select it different kinds- for example, several shapes and colors of a table or shelf. There are also more ways to have fun: in your camp you can make musical instruments and play with your team!

The developers have not forgotten about mechanisms useful for survival: the range of traps and protective equipment has been replenished with new types of turrets and spiked platforms. All this will be useful for protection from other players, since when starting a duel, the turrets of the fighting player will help in the battle. In Fallout 76, in addition to survivors, you should also be wary of the fauna - wild animals and monsters will regularly raid the bases. Buildings can be destroyed, so there is a reason to install a couple of additional turrets.

In addition to all this, buildings can be saved in memory by creating blueprints - so, if the player wants to build a copy of a house or restore a destroyed one, just select your blueprint and the necessary items will be built themselves (with enough materials).

But there are almost no changes in combat mechanics, other than V.A.T.S. The only significant difference is in injuries: if the player's health is taken away, he will fall to his knees, unable to move - this is what some NPCs did in The Elder Scrolls and Fallout series. Only if the latter cannot be killed, then this is the last chance for the player to survive. The wounded can be raised from his feet, and he will return to battle. But if no one decides to help, then he will die, leaving all his trash at the place of death.

He can take it back by returning to the point of death. But only if the killer doesn't get ahead of him. And the player chooses the place of rebirth: he needs to select a location on the map, and he will appear there. Fast travel Fallout 76 has it too, but you have to pay for travel in caps. You can also move to team members, but, again, not for free.

Fallout 76 - failure or long-awaited success?

The idea of ​​multiplayer in the Fallout series originated with Bethesda a long time ago. Although many fans of the series do not like this idea, it is clear that the studio is acting confidently, but carefully - this is, for example, evidenced by the future early access to Fallout 76, called B.E.T.A (you can read about the beta test) and carried out to identify problems in the game.

The company’s carefulness is also indicated by the huge number of similarities with Fallout 4 - Bethesda decided not to delve into new technical and graphical innovations, paying attention to multiplayer, which the studio itself is working on for the first time (the company is a publisher of some online games, including The Elder Scrolls Online, but not is a developer).

However, it is still too early to decide the fate of Fallout 76 - as journalists who attended the press screening noted, the three hours they were allocated for the game are too few to appreciate the continuation of the series at its true worth. In Fallout 4, Pip-Boy 3000 version 4 allows the player to:
