Extraneous radio signals are interference for a wireless network, which it constantly has to deal with and is often caused by neighboring Wi-Fi routers. As an analogy, you can imagine the movement of traffic on the road, if you see that there is a lot of traffic on one lane and the traffic on it is slow, you will of course take the lane where there are fewer cars and the traffic is faster. This is what we will do in this lesson, and determining the optimal band, or in our case WiFi channel, will help free program called inSSIDer.

And first of all, we go to the official website of the developers of the inSSIDer program, this is http://www.metageek.net \ download \ inSSIDer for HOME ( Windows Vista, 7, 8) or inSSIDer 2 (XP, NetBooks)

I won't install it, because I have portable version, By the way, this program is not tied to the operating system, so you can safely copy the program folder from Program Files to your flash drive and then delete it from the system. It will work the same way from a flash drive!

There is no point in running the program on a desktop computer, since it needs Wi-Fi adapter, through which it will scan Wi-Fi networks, so I will connect to the laptop via remote access, through the RAdmin program.

We launch the inSSIDer program through the exe file and the first thing we see is the Wi-Fi adapter through which Wi-Fi networks will be scanned. Go to the NETWORKS item, i.e. network and here a table appears in front of us with the following columns:

SSID– network name

Signal– signal level

Channel– channel on which this network operates

Security– type of network protection

MAC address– physical address of the Wi-Fi router

The 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz windows display channels operating at these frequencies, and in the right window, information about the selected network connection and a graph of changes in its signal.

And so, mine network connection sys-team-admin I have selected channels 5 and 9. I have channel 5 entered manually, and the system selected 9 automatically to cover a large area of the channels involved. In general, if we select my network connection, then on the 2.4 GHz graph, the area of channels that the router can use to transmit information is displayed in the form of a trapezoid. Although I have the router configured to operate on channels 5 and 9, each of these channels captures the adjacent 2 channels from the left and right side, i.e. 5 captures 3,4,5,6,7 and 9 captures 7,8,9,10,11. Therefore, the system automatically selected channel 9 as the second channel, since it increases the continuous area of used communication channels.

Gray lines display the channels and current signal strength of neighboring Wi-Fi networks, from here we can see that our area intersects quite a few channels that other devices use.

In the window on the right we can see the inscriptions:

Co-Channel – this displays the number of networks that are configured to use exactly the same channels

Overlapping – the number of networks whose channels intersect is displayed here

So, we need to choose a channel on which there will be as few intersections with other networks as possible, in my case it would be optimal to choose channel 11, since there is practically no one on it, so I will do that ( 192.168.0.1\Advanced settings\Basic settings\Channel\11\Change)

Now we see that now I have one overlapping network and one similarly configured, but since their signal level is very weak, so they will not interfere with me, again, the yellow dotted line shows the signal level of a similarly configured network, and the red dotted line shows the overlapping networks.

And finally, a couple more tips:

1) If you share a channel with several sources, but their signal is bad, then it is better to stay on it than to share a channel with one source, but which has a good signal, since this will cause more interference

2) Use channels from 1 to 11 - if some devices do not see the access point, perhaps they do not support operation on this channel, so it is better to choose channels from 1 to 11, although my router supports from 1 to 13.

InSSIDer is an application that allows you to scan any of the detected wireless networks. This will provide comprehensive information about each connected device. Here its MAC address, the quality of the outgoing signal, the type of protection, as well as a large amount of other information about the network and the devices located in it will be shown. The uniqueness of InSSIDer lies in the rapid detection of uninvited guests located in the wireless network under study, as well as any faults present in it.

Wherein interesting opportunity The utility also measures the signal quality of detected Wi-Fi networks. InSSIDer can also not only calculate the bandwidth of each network, but also their performance. A useful function will be thanks to which you can determine how the signal is affected by interference in the form of doors, walls and other partitions encountered along its path. Taking into account this interference, you can find out the exact coverage area of a given wireless network.

Additionally, using InSSIDer, you can easily determine which wireless network channel is least used. And taking into account the fact that this utility can determine exactly what security settings are applied to the Wi-Fi network, allowing you to further optimize its settings and thereby prevent any unauthorized access to this network.

Despite the fact that the program uses such powerful tools for working with wireless networks, InSSIDer can be downloaded for free, and absolutely any user who wants to get such a network tool. Because today this application was able to win over its user, and the count all over the world goes into the millions, this is an excellent result for this type of program.

Features of InSSIDer:

  • obtaining data about each user on the Wi-Fi network;
  • suppression of unauthorized access;
  • detailed study of wireless networks;
  • Information about bandwidth channels;
  • accurate data on the wireless network coverage area, taking into account interference.

Thanks to such brilliant characteristics of the InSSIDer application, it can be safely recommended to anyone who is wondering about both the organization and security of wireless networks. With all this, this utility has an interface in both English and Russian.

The main goal of the InSSIDer program is to fully scan wireless wi-fi networks that are located in close proximity to your personal computer or laptop. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind with such a formulation is the possibility of searching for open points wi-fi access, which you can connect to. Thus, naturally, the program can also be used.

It is quite simple, does not need configuration, but to use it you need to have installed by Microsoft. NET Framework 2.0, which is installed on most modern PCs.

Insider - how to use the program if you are not a computer guru?

To start working with the application, just click on the “start scanning” button, after which the analysis of nearby networks with open / closed access. Russian language in basic version absent.

The InSSIDer program will display in detail basic information about the detected networks and give you the right to decide on their importance for further work with them.

InSSIDer program features:

  • displays the MAC address of the device on the scanned network;
  • displays the name of the equipment manufacturer, SSID router;
  • signal level and frequency, encryption algorithm used;
  • access point/router operating mode;
  • tests the channel and displays the maximum possible data transfer speed over the network;
  • shows the date and time the network was discovered.
  • displays the results of the program on a graph.
InSSIDer is also useful if you need to check the quality of work wi-fi connections with a network node, which is useful not only for ordinary users, but also network administrators when laying out and configuring network architecture.

Every year, so many programs appear on the Internet that can help you do whatever you want. A huge number of applications for testing, checking and debugging. There are software for entertainment and games, work and just everyday help. Today we will learn how to use inSSIDer.

Program

How many programs do you know that help diagnose your Internet connection? If there are any problems with it, we usually look for the first online service we come across. It is primitive and shows only basic data.

To get a more detailed analysis, you need to install inSSIDer. This software is designed to help you get various kinds of indicators that will later help you decide on the work of your Internet provider.

Tasks

As mentioned earlier, learning how to use inSSIDer is necessary for those who want to diagnose Wi-Fi networks and channel loading. Such software determines the speed and congestion of the network, and indicates signal strength indicators. Defines the SSID, security type.

Using the program, you can find out the addresses of access points, equipment manufacturers, etc.

Application

The utility is used only in a home or small office. Analyzes the operation of wireless Wi-Fi networks. Testing helps you choose a channel that is freer and more stable.

The software collects information via private networks with a frequency in the 2.405 GHz range. If you want to learn about the operation of other household devices such as a wireless baby monitor, microwave oven, etc., then you do not need information on how to use the inSSIDer program, since the software does not work with these types of devices.

These devices usually interfere with the wireless network, so the software cannot determine their operation correctly.

Usage

As practice shows, experienced users who like to keep everything under control need this utility in their collection. The tool keeps you informed and helps you work with a quality network. To use the program, you need to know one detail.

The fact is that the CIS countries work with 13 channels, but in the USA there are two fewer. If wireless adapter, which is connected to the device, must work in America, then you will have to use only 11 channels: from the first to the 11th.

If you use the others, then there is a chance that the device does not identify the access point.

Installation

Before you understand how to use inSSIDer, you need to download and install the software. We download to a device that uses a Wi-Fi wireless network. Do not forget that you need to download the program in accordance with your operating system to avoid compatibility problems. This can be done from the official website. From there, as always, it is safer and the likelihood that you will pump viruses or advertising into the system is zero.

It is important to understand that the program interface may differ depending on versions. But in general it is almost the same for any system.

If on your PC, then you will also need this package in order to understand how to use inSSIDer 4. You are in luck if you are working with official version Windows 10, then this package does not need to be installed as it is included in the system.

Set of libraries

It is still important to dwell in more detail on the NET Framework. The fact is that if you have previously downloaded some programs or games, then most likely the system already has this set of libraries. It's another matter if you want to install inSSIDer on a "clean" system. Then you will notice a notification that you need to download a set of libraries.

The good thing is that this solution will be offered to you automatically. All you have to do is agree. Then you need to find the corresponding file on the official website and download it.

Be aware that installing a set of libraries takes a long time. Of course, it all depends on your system. But you definitely have about 15-20 minutes left. After the installation of the NET Framework has been successfully completed, you can start working on the inSSIDer program.

Beginning of work

The installation of the utility itself is not difficult. Therefore it will be enough to follow step by step instructions. But then you can get started and figure out how to use inSSIDer. There is a video in Russian on YouTube, so if you perceive information more easily visually, you can watch a couple of guides.

The utility, as mentioned earlier, works with two bands: 2.4 and 5 GHz. She shows in a special table all the different networks that she could detect. There is also expanded information on each of them. The MAC address, name, signal strength, etc. are indicated.

It is possible to connect GPS, which will also provide information on geographic coordinates. All data can be easily collected into one KML file.

The question of how to use inSSIDer 3 should not arise. Especially if you need a superficial diagnosis. The interface is quite clear. At the top there is information about the equipment. It is through this device that the scanning takes place. To start the process, just click on the “Start” or “Stop” button to pause it.

Filters

To receive expanded information, you need to apply filters. They are located below the equipment name. Allows you to sort out all unnecessary data. To add parameters there, click “+”, and to exclude from the list, click “-”.

You can filter the results by SSID name. Simply enter the device manufacturer. You can also include your username here. Thus, the table will contain data for a specific manufacturer and user name

The “Channels” filter will help you sort out the frequency ranges you don’t need. Just enter 2.4 or 5 GHz. Here we also enter the channel number. You may want information on specific options.

In addition, you can filter information by network type and security. In the first case, you need to indicate one of a pair of proposed options. In the second, weed out the unnecessary type of security that is not of interest to you in this diagnosis.

conclusions

It's not difficult to learn how to use inSSIDer. You just need to take a close look at the interface and understand why you need this utility. If you understand its tasks, you can easily use filters and enter data. After a few minutes of diagnostics, it will not be difficult to understand what the situation is with your wireless network, whether the channels overlap, and whether they need to be changed.

Experienced users recommend scanning your wireless network at least once a week. This is because other users can change settings, which will affect yours. Therefore the search free channel can significantly improve the speed and affect the stability of Wi-Fi.

InSSIDer is an application whose task is to check and diagnose networks WiFi wireless types that are located within reach of the PC, and ultimately optimize the performance of existing connections. This utility causes practically no complications during operation. Also it does not require installation third party programs(except Microsoft. NET Framework 2.0) and is inexorably gaining popularity in different countries peace. Therefore, here users can download InSSIDer in Russian for Windows 7/8/10 for free with a key via torrent and start using the software. But it is worth noting that there is no scanner in portable form, it needs to be fully installed, like many other applications.

When the program is just launched by the user, it immediately, in a dynamic mode, automatically collects information from all freely accessible networks. The scanner presents the following characteristics:

  • throughput;
  • access points within range;
  • signal strength;
  • performance;
  • MAC address of the router and its developer;
  • security types, etc.

Functionality

The application provides information in table form about access points and any device connected to the network. Can scan the 2.4/5 GHz range, as well as build graphs and histograms for constant monitoring of signal strength. The utility easily detects problems in the found network. It indicates interior items or other interference in the signal path that affects the quality of the connection. In addition, it also shows the coverage area with existing obstacles.

The application will provide information about the geographic coordinates of wireless network access points if the PC has a GPS receiver. Any Wi-Fi has separately dedicated channels to transmit information. When Wi-Fi distribution points are located near each other and transmit information over the same channel, the quality of communication along with the network speed noticeably decreases. InSSIDer can help in this matter by identifying the least used channel and ensuring switching to it.

For work at 7, 8 and 10 Windows versions There is a function for determining “dead zones” with an unstable signal. To detect them, it is enough to walk through the entire building once with the program turned on. This measure will help identify the most suitable location for the router and avoid dislocation with poor connectivity in advance. The best decision for organizing Internet connections in wireless networks.

Conclusion

It turns out that InSSIDer is in a fast way a thorough analysis of available Wi-Fi networks, and the ability to determine the most suitable connection. Downloading such a utility will not hurt any wireless network user. Moreover, it is distributed in the public domain.

In addition to the 2 mentioned above Windows versions, the application supports Android and Mac. The user is given 3 download links for InSSIDer for 3 operating systems. The program, which already has a key, has been translated into Russian, which makes it even easier clear algorithm work. All that remains is to wish for a successful and easy resolution possible problems with wireless networks, as suggested by the functionality of this software product.
