Change Wi-Fi password networks, setting up Internet access, managing a VPN connection and much more are in the router settings. You may need access to them at any time. Let's look at what to do if you can't access the router settings.

What to do first

If the router settings do not open, follow these simple steps:

  • go to the settings from another browser, because your browser is faulty or uses a proxy server that prevents you from accessing the specified address;
  • by unplugging the power supply from the outlet for 15 seconds or more so that all static electricity comes out of the router;
  • restart your computer;
  • open the router settings from another device: phone or tablet.

How to make sure you're entering the correct address

There are instructions on the Internet that you can access the router by entering the address 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 into the address bar. In today's world, only 30% of routers use these IPs for the settings page.

To find out the address of your router settings, turn the device over and read the information. It may vary depending on the manufacturer. Access to the parameters is provided by the following addresses:

How to check on your computer whether a connection is established with the router

Access to settings may be blocked due to lack of connection to the router. There may be a problem with the cable connection ( bad connection the connector with the socket has a pinched or damaged wire) or there is no Wi-Fi connection. It’s very easy to check this: just pay attention to the network indicator, which is located in the lower right corner. The icon may indicate that:

The last example means that you need to look for a problem at the hardware level.

What to do if there is no connection

If there is no connection to the router, you need to restore it and make sure that everything is done correctly. To configure the router, it is better to use a connection via an Ethernet cable. It should be remembered that routers often have 4 or more ports for network distribution and one for reception. This nest is different in color from others.

The connecting cable must be inserted into the correct socket of the router

The cord and connectors must be intact and not crushed, and the connection of the cable to the port must be accompanied by a characteristic click, indicating that the RJ-45 is in place.

In addition, you need to check the power supply of the router. When connected to the network, the device indicators should light up.

Checking the settings for obtaining an IP address

The router settings may not be available due to non-standard IP address settings on the PC. To correct the situation, you need to set automatic so that the computer can determine its network independently:

  1. Press the Win + R key combination, enter the control command in the window that appears and launch it with the “OK” button.

Press the Win + R key combination, enter the control command in the window that appears and launch it with the “OK” button.

  2. Find and open the link “View network status and tasks”.
  3. Call up the “Network Status” window via the link opposite the connection to the router and open “Properties”.

Open the network status window, and in it click “Properties”

  4. In the dialog box, select the TCP/IPv4 element and click “Properties” again. In the protocol window, we make all settings automatic and save the changes using the “OK” button.

In the properties of the TCP/IPv4 protocol we set automatic settings IP and save changes

  5. Let's try to open the router settings.

Is the browser proxy enabled?

If a proxy server or similar setting is enabled in your browser or system, this may cause problems when you try to open the router settings.

The proxy group also includes VPN services, browser extensions, and Turbo modes.

The solution to the problem is quite simple: just disable all the above components. To be sure, you also need to check your computer for viruses. Malware may cause discord in system files. The consequence of this may be a failure in the operation of network systems.

What to do if the browser redirects to a search engine

When you try to enter the router settings using the IP address, a search page opens instead of a page with parameters. This happens due to the specific way observers perceive information. Any deviation from the protocol is considered a search request.

If the router address is written incorrectly, the browser sends a request to the search engine

To correct the situation, you need to enter the correct address. We indicate http:// at the beginning of the line, otherwise the program will only recognize numbers. Next, write the address without commas and letters instead of numbers. The correct one would be http://192.168.1.1. Replacing any character in the string will collapse the entire address.

What to do if after entering the settings the error “Incorrect login or password” appears

When trying to authenticate, most people make the mistake of entering the standard admin values in both fields. Some devices have these values entered by default, but this is not a permanent phenomenon. Some manufacturers set excellent passwords, for example, “1234”, while others write a separate code for each device.

To find out how to bypass the “Incorrect login or password” error, refer to the sticker on the bottom side of the router. We carefully read the lines that are reserved for login and password, and have the words admin, user, key, password, and so on in their name.

The router sticker contains the login and password for the device settings

If the values entered from the package also did not correct the situation, the problem is that the default value was replaced by another. In this case, you need to reset the router settings to factory settings. To do this, use the Reset button on the router body.

Resetting is very simple: you need to press and hold the button for 10 seconds (sometimes the settings are restored immediately, depending on the manufacturer). Then we reboot the device and, using the default data, enter the router settings.

Using the Reset button, reset the router settings to factory settings

It is very easy to correct errors when entering the router settings. You just need to diagnose the cause and use one of the instructions suggested above to eliminate it.

If you need to configure a modem (router, router), and in the browser at 192.168.1.1 the window for entering your login and password does not open, as in Figure 1, and instead you see a window as in Figure 2, or something similar , – then the technical support service of the Internet provider, as a rule, cannot help in this case, and in response you will hear: “Reinstall the network card driver.”

In fact, there are many reasons why the window for entering the modem settings does not open in the browser at 192.168.1.1, but it is quite possible to identify and eliminate them yourself.

I will list the most common malfunctions that prevent you from accessing the address 192.168.1.1 in the router settings:

  1. Lack of network card driver.
  2. The address to enter the modem settings is incorrect (i.e. it is not 192.168.1.1).
  3. The IP addresses of the network card are not registered.
  4. The cable connecting the computer and the modem is faulty.
  5. The modem is faulty.
  6. Malicious programs (viruses) on the computer.
  7. The network card is faulty.

Now let's look at the sequence of identifying and eliminating the above faults.

1. Lack of network card driver

To check for the presence of a network card driver, you need to go into Device Manager and look at the “Network Cards” section. It should be like in Figure 3. If the network adapter line shows yellow Exclamation point, then you need to install network driver.

2. The address to enter the modem settings is incorrect (i.e. it is not 192.168.1.1)

Make sure that for your router model the address to enter the settings is exactly 192.168.1.1, and not 192.168.0.1, 192.168.100.1 or some other (address 192.168.1.1 is usually used in modems Promsvyaz m200a, Huawei, zte, tp-link from byfly). To do this, you can call your Internet service provider and tell them your router model (located on the label on the bottom of the device). Often the address for entering the settings is indicated on the label next to the router model. You can look in the instructions you were given or on the manufacturer's website.

3. The IP addresses of the network card are not registered

This can be understood by the yellow exclamation mark on the network connection icon in the lower right corner of the screen. In this case, the easiest way is to contact your Internet provider for help.

4. The cable connecting the computer and the modem is faulty

To check if the cable is working properly, you need another cable :). Almost everyone has cables to connect a computer to a modem. Go get the cable from your neighbor and try to open the modem setup window using a cable that is known to be working.

5. Modem is faulty

To check that the modem is working properly, you need to connect it to another computer or laptop, and if after typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar the window for entering the modem settings does not open, then the router is faulty.

6. Malicious programs (viruses) on the computer

If all of the above steps do not produce results, then most likely you have a virus or software glitch on your computer. You can try reinstalling the network driver or running the utility for virus scan, but it’s easier to reinstall Windows with drivers.

7. Network card is faulty

You reinstalled Windows 7 or 8, installed necessary drivers, but you can’t open the modem settings window at 192.168.1.1, this means your network card is definitely faulty. For computers - an additional network card is installed, a laptop - for repair or an external network card is installed. Now you can definitely go to the modem settings at the address “192.168.1.1”. All that remains is to enter your login and password in the window that opens (usually the words “admin” and “admin”, respectively), and you are in the modem settings.

Frequently asked user question: why can't I go into settings Wi-Fi router at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1? Indeed, quite often the user cannot enter the router settings because an error is displayed:

Http://192.168.1.1 Web page unavailable

Address to enter settings

Actually, the address of your router's web interface does not necessarily have to be or . These are just the most common variations of the IP address, and only if no one has changed it. In this article we will talk about various reasons for the problem of logging into settings and ways to solve it.

What is a router?

First, let's figure out what a router is. If anyone still doesn’t know, a router (also known as a router) is a device that is used to connect several devices to the Internet at the same time. If you connect your provider's cable directly to your computer (without a router), then the Internet will only work on this PC and you will have to configure it to connect all other devices to the network. And if you have a router in the room, then the provider’s cable is connected to its WAN port, and all other client devices are already connected to the router - some using Ethernet cables, others via Wi-Fi. To put it simply, a router is a kind of “Internet connection splitter,” just like an extension filter in the case of electricity.

To enter the router settings, use any browser - Chrome, Opera, Firefox. In order to enter the settings, you need to enter a special IP address into the address bar of your browser. Most often these addresses are 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.0.1, but there may be others.

Unfortunately, people often have problems logging into their router settings at these addresses. And if you can't get into the web settings panel, you won't be able to access the web. There are many reasons for the problem. And in this article we have collected all the reasons and their solutions known to us.
Today we will answer the following questions:

  • How to setup network card to log into the web interface on 192.168.1.1 (192.168.0.1)?
  • Why can’t I access the settings of my router, modem or access point?
  • In what cases, when trying to open the settings page of the 192.168.1.1 router, does the “page unavailable” error appear?
  • Why, when trying to enter the settings of a router (modem, access point), does it redirect to Google search or Yandex?

What is the default IP address of the router settings?

The factory address of the router settings can be found:

  • in the instructions

The instructions always come with the device either in paper form or as a PDF document on disk, and very often both. In addition, setup instructions can always be downloaded from the official website of the router (access point, modem) manufacturer.

  • on the sticker

Typically, it is located on the bottom of the case or on the back of it. Here is an example from the D-Link DIR-300 router:

And this is what the TP-Link TL-WR841ND sticker looks like:

What IP should I register on my computer to access http://192.168.1.1

For initial setup The router needs to be connected to any of its LAN ports with the computer’s network card:

And to enter the settings interface, you need the IP address of the network adapter to be in the same subnet as the router address. Most routers have a DHCP server enabled by default. This means that in the settings of your computer’s network adapter you just need to specify receiving IP automatically.

To do this, click right click on the network icon next to the clock and select Network and Sharing Center:

  • Click on the link with the name of your network connection.
  • Select Properties.
  • Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4.
  • Click the button Properties.
  • Set both switches to Automatically.
  • Click OK:

But when setting up access points, repeaters (repeaters) or other network equipment, you need to assign an IP address to your computer manually, which in system administrator jargon is called “setting the IP address in the first place.” Go to settings and manually assign an address to the network card. For example, if the default IP of the router is 192.168.1.1, assign network adapter any address from the range 192.168.1. 2-254 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0 :

Accordingly, in order to access http://192.168.0.1, you need to enter (for example) 192.168.0.24

Login to router settings

Why doesn’t the address 192.168.1.1 (192.168.0.1) open and an error appears?

So, first we will analyze the situation when, instead of the router settings page, an error like Web-page is unavailable:

1. You are entering an incorrect IP address.

Your router has a different default address (for example, 192.168.0.1 rather than 192.168.1.1) or the address has been changed to something else in the settings (for example, 192.168.0.254).

Solution

Find out the current IP of your router. This can be done both with and on iOS or Android:

Enter the correct settings address in the address bar in the format http://192.168.1.1

2. The router’s IP address is in a different subnet

This often happens after changing the IP router or if the computer address is configured manually.

Solutions

Option 1. If you know the router's IP, assign an address from the same range to your computer's network card.

Option 2: If you don't know, follow these steps:

    • Make sure your computer is connected to the router's LAN port.
  • Set to receive network settings automatically.

  • View network connection information. The gateway address will be the router address.

  • Enter the correct IP into the browser line.

3. The browser has a proxy server enabled

This also includes the included Turbo mode in Opera or Yandex Browser, as well as various applications and extensions that change IP - for example, . In addition, the browser may be infected with malware. Under all these circumstances, attempts to log into the control panel at addresses 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1 or any others may result in an error.

Solutions to the problem

    • Disable Turbo
    • Disable the proxy server. You can also try checking the box Don't use a proxy for local addresses or add the router address to the exceptions.
  • Scan your computer for viruses using and.

4. Network interface is disabled

  • Enable the network interface.

To do this, log in Control Panel - Network and Internet - Network Connections - Changing adapter settings, right-click on the desired interface and select Turn on:

  • Switch the patch cord to another network card if you have several of them.
  • Install latest version drivers for the network adapter.

5. The power to the router is turned off or there is a problem with the network cable

Check the power supply and integrity of the patch cord. Try replacing the cable:

6. A non-standard port is used to enter the router settings

In the settings of many routers (for example, the popular manufacturer TP-Link), you can specify not only the address, but also the port through which the web configuration interface will be available. If the port specified is not standard (that is, not 80), then to enter the settings you will need to specify its number separated by a colon after the address. For example:

Therefore, in this case you have three options:

  • find out the port number from the person who configured the router;
  • try to enter the settings using the host name, for example tplinkwifi.net(naturally, if you have a TP-Link router). You will be redirected to the correct IP address and port (usually 192.168.0.1);

7. Router malfunction or failure

Perform a factory reset

Signs that the router is faulty:

  • no internet or network;
  • no indicator lights up;
  • I can't enter settings.

Can't access 192.168.1.1 (192.168.0.1) from iPhone and Android

Very common mistake when trying to access the router settings from a phone: when entering the username on iPhone and Android, the first letter is entered as a capital letter. This leads to the error " The username or password you entered is incorrect“, and you can’t understand what’s the matter. To enter your login correctly:

Why does it redirect me to Google or Yandex when I try to access the settings web interface?

1. You enter 192.168.1.1 without http://

Some browsers, instead of going to http://, will redirect you to a search by numbers:

Type the URL in the address bar, starting with 'http':

http://192.168.1.1

2. Commas instead of periods

If you type in the Russian keyboard, then commas may appear instead of periods:

192,168,1,1

In this case, you will also be redirected to the search engine.

Enter the correct URL in your browser starting with http:// and click Enter:

3. Letters instead of numbers in the IP address

Sometimes, for some unknown reason (most likely, of course, out of ignorance), people enter the letters “i” instead of ones. As a result, instead of an IP address you get the awkward 192.168.I.I or 192.168.l.l and after that you end up in the search instead of the router settings page.

The most common addresses, logins and passwords

For novice users: if you don’t have a sticker on your router, don’t have instructions, the Internet doesn’t work, etc., here are the most common default details.

Good day.

Quite a lot of questions come from users about setting up a wireless network: change the name of the network, change the password to access it, limit the number of users who have access to it, etc. When you say that all this can be done quite easily in the router settings, another question follows question: how to enter them...☺

The router settings page is a regular web page that can be opened in almost any browser (many even call this page the “Web Interface”). Actually, this article is just about how to get to this page...

Note: I want to say right away that most routers come with a CD. In 99% of cases, it contains a utility that makes it easier to configure the router (there are no drivers on it, and they are not needed - the router works as soon as you connect it). However, I’ll make a reservation right away: in such utilities, most often, there will not be all the settings, just the most basic ones. Therefore, in my opinion, all these utilities are useless; it’s easier to configure it yourself by opening a page with all the device parameters (more on this later in the article).

To go into the router settings, you need...

1) Connect the router to the computer

The first thing you need to do is connect your router with a cable to your computer (note: later, when Wi-Fi network will be configured, the cable can be disconnected). A network cable (at least 1 piece) is included with any router model (D-Link, TP-Link, Asus, etc.).

Please note that after you connect the computer and the router with a cable and turn on the devices, the LEDs on the router should start blinking (including those marked LAN). The network icon in Windows should also “come to life” - it usually says that a network has been found and it is “Without Internet access”.

2) Find out the IP address, password and login from the web interface with settings

Each brand (model) of routers has its own IP address, login and password to access the settings. Without this information, you won’t be able to enter them!

I want to say right away: in the documentation for your device, on its box, or a sticker on the case - 99.9% this information is there (below is a photo of what it looks like)!

If you have scoured the router up and down, and there is nothing in the documentation (or there are simply no stickers or documents left), use the sign below. It lists the most popular router models.

Table No. 1: Data for logging into router settings different models. Important! All settings are default. Recommended browser to enter settings - Internet Explorer.

Router model Settings page Login and password
Tp-Link 192.168.1.1 (in rare cases 192.168.0.1 , depending on the firmware version) Username: admin

Password: admin(type without periods, commas, etc.).

D-Link http://192.168.0.1 Login: admin

Password: either an empty string or the same admin.

Asus 192.168.1.1 login: admin

password: admin

Zyxel 192.168.1.1 Login: admin
Password: admin
TRENDnet http://192.168.10.1 User Name (login): admin

Password (password for access): admin

Router from Rostelecom (Sagemcom) http://192.168.1.1/ Password and login: admin
NetGear 192.168.1.1 Login: admin
Password: password

3) Enter the IP address in the browser address bar

Many people mistakenly enter the IP address into search bar, instead of address. And one more thing: it’s better to open the settings in Internet Explorer (Edge) - because... These browsers are preinstalled in Windows and firmware developers for routers optimize their web interface primarily for this browser.

4) Enter your password and login to access the interface

If the IP address was specified correctly, you will see that for further access, you will be asked to enter a password and login (this means that everything was done correctly before).

Most often, the default password and login are "admin"(enter without quotes). Sometimes, instead of a password, entering nothing at all is unnecessary. In general, enter the data specified by the manufacturer of your device and click OK.

5) Configure wireless network, Internet

Actually, if the login and password are correct, a web interface with settings will open. All that's left to do is to make the necessary changes to the parameters, save them and reboot the router.

You might be interested in an article on how to set or change a Wi-Fi password -

If the settings page does not open...

1) Check if the IP address you are entering is correct

The most common problem- This is when the user enters the wrong IP address. In this case, the browser will display an error like “This page cannot be found and displayed” (example below). I recommend double-checking the IP address and trying to enter it again into the address bar of your browser.

This web page cannot be displayed // Internet Explorer

2) Is the router connected: is everything ok with the cables?

By the way, a similar error, as in the screenshot above, can be seen when your router is not connected to the computer. It's possible that network cable is not tightly inserted into the LAN port, or it is simply broken. See if the LEDs on the router case are lit, if the Windows network icon indicating an available local connection.

3) Try a different browser

Many users use it to open the router web interface Chrome browsers, Firefox, Opera, etc., “hung” with a dozen or two plugins. The fact is that some plugins and settings in the browsers themselves (for example, turbo mode) can simply block and not allow you to log in using the local IP address.

Therefore, the advice is simple - try running Internet Explorer (without any add-ons), or at least just another browser.

4) Check if IP and DNS retrieval is set to auto mode

It is possible that you cannot connect due to incorrect IP and DNS settings. To check this, you need to open the tab network connections and see what’s going on there with the connection via local network.

To do this, call the "Run" window (a combination of buttons Win+R), enter in the "Open" line ncpa.cpl and click OK (example below).

How to open network connections || ncpa.cpl

Next, look to see if there are any red crosses on the local network connection (Ethernet, if you have the English version) (which will indicate a lack of connection - for example, the network cable is not tightly inserted into the LAN port).

After that open properties this connection (example below).

Next, find the line “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” and open it properties. Well, in fact, change the sliders to automatically obtain IP and DNS (as in the screenshot below). Save the settings and restart your computer. Next, try again to access the IP address of the router settings.

5) If the previous did not help...

Despite the variety of models and brands of routers, the principle of logging into the web interface with settings is the same everywhere (this is what I tried to convey in this article ☻).

Thank you for the additions on the topic. That's all, good luck everyone!
