New tablets appear constantly, and there is a huge selection of similar products from various brands and brands. Now tablets can be divided into inexpensive, but also premium devices, which cost a lot, but are designed to surprise with their functionality.

Sony equipment can compete with many well-known brands

The Sony brand does not release new products very often; each creation is a reason for fierce competition between leading manufacturers. Tablet Sony Xperia The Z4 Tablet is attractive on the outside and beautiful on the inside, as we can see later when we look at its parameters and find out who it can compete with.

The tablet comes with a USB cable, a power supply and accompanying documentation - nothing extra, I would like to say. However, there is one accessory that would be quite useful as standard - the Quick Charger UCH10, or power supply for fast charging. Such a module allows you to fill the device’s battery in just over an hour, but for some reason it is not supplied with the tablet, although not only this, but also previous models support the corresponding Qualcomm quick charge 2.0 function. Therefore, it is highly desirable, in addition to the standard unit, to also have such a means for charging - it will certainly come in handy, and more than once.

The essence of the reproach on our part is that, given the cost of the tablet, it would be possible to add this useful accessory included in the basic package.

Design

The design of this model deserves special attention. First of all, it, like many products of this brand, has a water-repellent body, so you don’t have to be afraid of dipping or dropping the tablet into water. True, if you accidentally lost it in the sea, it is better to wipe it afterwards so that nothing is damaged due to the salt.

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is available in black and white versions - strictly, modestly, but stylish. The tablet has quite impressive dimensions due to the 10-inch screen, but everything is compensated by its thickness - it is only 6.1 mm. Thanks to this, it looks very elegant and impressive; it won’t fit in your pocket, but can easily get lost among the folders of papers in your bag.

Moreover, it has become lighter compared to previous models of the brand. Weighs less than 400 grams, which is an impressive figure for a device with a large diagonal. The rest of the tablet is quite simple, there is nothing in front except the screen and front camera, the power and volume buttons are on the right side.

What makes the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet different from its Apple competitor? That's right, the case material is plastic, but it has a pleasant rough surface, so it's pleasant to hold in your hands. However, if you definitely want to get a tablet with a metal body, like this model, you will have to buy an iPad.

However, you can easily come to terms with the material if you take into account the fact that the tablet itself is waterproof, unlike the American product, which is why it simply cannot be otherwise. In general, the design of the product from Sony deserves praise, because thanks to its thin body and light weight, it looks beautiful and is easy to use.

Screen

The tablet is equipped with a 10.1-inch screen with a high resolution Quad HD 2560x1600 pixels. It has become brighter and provides a colorful and rich picture. Image clarity is guaranteed thanks to the high pixel density of 299 per inch, and thanks to a wide brightness range, the screen remains readable even in bright sunlight. It’s nice that the manufacturer has provided an oleophobic coating so that fingerprints do not remain on the display so quickly.

In addition, the screen has maximum viewing angles, and the image quality is so high that photographers or videographers can use the tablet for professional purposes. In principle, in terms of resolution, the device has become one of the leaders on the market, so the screen is its undoubted advantage.

Performance

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet has an 8-core Qualcomm processor Snapdragon 810, 4 cores operate at 1.5 GHz, the rest at 2 GHz. Together with 3 GB flash memory, the device turned out to be powerful and capable of handling all tasks - from watching Full HD video with smooth and high-quality picture without any slowdown, up to any games with the most intense graphics.

Without any difficulty, the tablet copes with displaying a demanding screen, so you can use it without restrictions for office work, multimedia playback, games and any basic tasks. Moreover, the important fact is that powerful processor in a thin tablet, unlike many competitors, it does not overheat even in games. By the way, this is another argument in favor of a plastic case rather than metal.

If in many reviews you can often find complaints about the discrepancy between the power of the tablet and its screen, which requires more resources or high performance, limited by the strong heating of the processor, then here you will not see this. Performance is one of the main trump cards of the model.

Multimedia capabilities

What do you need to work comfortably with multimedia?

High quality screen? In this model, it provides an excellent image that will delight you when viewing photos or movies, surfing the web and working with files.

Speakers? Although this tablet is water-repellent, it comes with good quality speakers that produce loud and clear sound in which you can confidently hear the mids and high frequencies in compositions of different genres.

The speed of the device, as mentioned earlier, is enough for any task - if it copes with games, then music or movies will not interfere with fast work.

There are also several features in this model regarding multimedia. This supports connection with PS4 - you can connect the device to the console, connect a joystick to it, which will turn into a simple screen, as if you were playing on a TV. In addition, the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet has Hi-Res Sound technology, which contains functions for improving sound, correcting poor-quality tracks, and adjusting the sound for the headset.

To store multimedia and other files, the tablet has 32 GB of memory - not much, but very good, and, naturally, they can be supplemented with a card up to 128 GB, which you will not get from Apple products yet.

Battery and operating time

The device comes with a 6 thousand mAh battery. Is it a lot or a little? If you turn the screen brightness to maximum and continuously watch videos of the highest quality with Wi-Fi turned on, the charge will last for 5.5–6 hours. As soon as you reduce the brightness indicators (and there is room to reduce them), you need to use the tablet in a more mixed mode, then time battery life increases significantly.

If you use the device for a short period of time, the battery power will be enough for several days. But things are not easy with restoring the charge - a standard unit requires about 6 hours for this procedure. As mentioned in the review, the gadget has fast charging technology, with which you can restore the battery capacity by 70% in an hour. The problem is that to utilize the technology you need a power supply, which needs to be purchased separately. It is inexpensive, but its benefits are great.

Camera

The Xperia Z4 tablet has two cameras of 8 and 5 MP. Note that the front module is quite good; with its help you can use video communication and take good selfies. But it doesn't have autofocus, so you won't get too excited about using the front camera.

As for the main 8 MP module, it comes with autofocus, but is definitely inferior in quality to its competitor from Apple. It will be difficult to take a high-quality photo, movements or shaking of the hands will lead to a blurry photo, but is this important? In most cases, cameras in tablets are there just in case and are not used as a device, especially in models with a large screen diagonal.

Operating system and programs

The device runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop in the Xperia UI shell. The platform looks concise and beautiful, and is easy to use. There is a standard set of applications, as on all Android systems, it is supplemented Garmin navigator and AVG antivirus.

All components that are not to your liking can be removed, and those you want can be installed, and this is one of the main advantages of this platform.

It is important to mention that the tablet is available in a standard version and in a version with a slot for a SIM card and LTE, where the menu provides a dial pad and all the means for implementing mobile communications.

Competitors

The main competitors of the review model, which belongs to the premium segment, are Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 and Apple iPad Air 2. What are the differences between the three models?

First of all, the Samsung product will cost you less, especially when compared to the price of the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet in the 4G version. And this module is also available from a competitor. The Galaxy Tab S 10.5 also has a little bigger screen with almost the same excellent image quality, larger battery capacity. However, it is almost 70 grams heavier, and the processor does not easily cope with the high demands of the screen. An additional difference is that it is not waterproof.

So in some respects, the tablet in our review justifies the cost compared to its competitor. As for Apple iPad Air 2, then it is almost 10 thousand rubles cheaper, has not such high performance, but better cameras, the same 3\4G support and a high-quality screen. But Apple is Apple, and the metal body attracts users well. Therefore, if you choose between these three models, then it is advisable to start purely from individual needs and preferences.

Advantages and disadvantages

The advantages of the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet are as follows:

  • Slim waterproof body, light weight.
  • Screen with high resolution, brightness, anti-glare effect and oleophobic coating.
  • Powerful processor, high performance.
  • High quality speakers.
  • Availability of LTE.

Among the minuses you can find only the cameras, although, compared to many tablets, they are very decent, as well as average battery life, but the main complaint of users is the price. Although, if you collect all the advantages - strong parameters, Beautiful design, waterproof, it becomes clear why it is more expensive than its competitors.

conclusions

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is a premium tablet that comes at a high price. For a price of about 40 thousand rubles, you will get a waterproof thin case, an impressive screen and high performance without overheating the processor. A good amount of memory, loud speakers, the presence of advanced ones - with many advantages, the device has practically no disadvantages, and even those are relative.

If you do not take into account the cost, then the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is certainly a worthy tablet that belongs to the best products on the market for similar equipment.

With a bright 10.1-inch 2K display and a super-powerful processor, the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is also the thinnest and lightest in its class. It also has good autonomy and is not afraid of water and dust. Vesti.Hi-tech were looking for something to complain about in this new product

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet, presented this spring in Barcelona at MWC 2015, is already the fourth in the line, but only the third with a screen diagonal of 10.1 inches. Let us remind you that the 10.1-inch firstborn, protected from water and dust, in 2013 became the thinnest and light tablet in your class. At the beginning of the next 2014, the Xperia Z2 Tablet in the same category (10.1-inch screen) was recognized as the thinnest on the market. And already in the fall, the 8-inch one turned out to be the lightest among compact tablets (and second in thickness). It is not surprising that the next owner of an elegant appearance, the Xperia Z4 Tablet, also confidently set a record. According to Sony's top managers, they tried to preserve in the new product all the best in tablet technology, which was shared with the Xperia Z2 Tablet, and also improved those functions that were most in demand among users. In Russia, two modifications of the Xperia Z4 Tablet are offered: SGP712 (Wi-Fi only) and SGP771 (Wi-Fi + LTE). In addition, the latest model is available bundled with the BKB50 Bluetooth keyboard.

Design, ergonomics

The Xperia Z4 Tablet is available in two classic classic colors - black and white.

Sony is true to itself even in the smallest details (including packaging), not to mention the overall design concept of OmniBalance. Setting a new bar for 10-inch tablets,

The presented device has become thinner and lighter than its record-breaking predecessor Xperia Z2 Tablet - (6.1 mm versus 6.4 mm) and (393 g versus 439 g). Note that the version without LTE generally weighs 389 g. But, for example, the weight and thickness of the 10.5-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 from last year (2014) is 467 g and 6.6 mm, respectively. A device from a completely different “galaxy” - the Apple iPad Air 2 - boasts a record thickness (6.1 mm), but its weight, however, is a little disappointing (444 g), and dust storms with water procedures are contraindicated for it.

The edges of the Xperia Z4 Tablet's body have become even more “soft” - plastic and rounded, therefore, thanks to the pleasant tactile sensations, holding the device in your hands is quite comfortable. However, this trend is already familiar from the 8-inch.

The metal corners, which are called shock-absorbing corners, are made of stainless steel and are designed to somehow protect the tablet when dropped. For the back panel of the device, rough matte plastic is used, which collects “greasy” fingerprints, although less readily than a regular soft-touch coating. The entire front panel is still covered with tempered mineral glass with an oleophobic coating.

In accordance with the requirements of IP65/IP68 standards, the new tablet is reliably protected from dust and moisture. In particular, it is not afraid of even low-pressure water jets (IPx5) and an hour and a half stay in water at a depth of 1.5 meters (IPx8). In order to somewhat cool down the “hot” heads who are immediately preparing to run to the beach or to the pool, we note that immersion in salt water is generally excluded, and after the device gets into chlorinated water, it will then have to be rinsed with fresh water. As for the protection against the penetration of solid particles, compared to the Xperia Z2 Tablet, it has become even more stringent, since dust resistance (IP5x) has been replaced by complete dust resistance (IP6x).

In the upper left corner of the front panel above the screen (hereinafter everything is about landscape orientation) the manufacturer's logo was applied, while the front camera lens is in the center, to the left of it is the light sensor, and the LED notification charging indicator is next to the right edge . Along the left and right edges of the protective glass there are inconspicuous thin cutouts for the stereo speaker grilles.

The lower end of the body is empty,

and the top end is occupied by two uncovered holes for a microphone and a 3.5 mm connector for connecting an audio headset. Here, under a common flap, there is a slot for a microSD memory card and a tray for a subscriber identification module in nanoSIM format (only for the LTE version). There you can also see a small yellow OFF button to force the device to turn off.

The volume rocker and the most recognizable design detail of the Xperia family - the round metal power / lock button - are located on the left edge.

A microUSB connector was placed on the right edge. Now it does not have a plug, so you can connect Charger can be done easily and quickly. For this reason, the magnetic connector for connecting a charging dock was simply abandoned. However, after contact with water, the USB port will have to be thoroughly dried.

On the back panel with the Sony, Xperia and NFC logos (at the location of the antenna of the same name)

Closer to the upper right corner, a hole was provided for the main camera lens.

Holding the lightweight Xperia Z4 Tablet in your hands is simply a pleasure; your hands not only do not slip, but also do not get tired at all. This is especially noticeable if you have recently dealt with something more impressive in thickness and weight from the class of 10-inch devices.

Screen, camera, sound

Compared to its 10.1-inch predecessor, which was content with Full HD resolution, Xperia screen The Z4 Tablet has learned to display 2560x1600 pixels (WQXGA, 16:10), which, with this diagonal size, provides a pixel density per inch of 299 ppi (versus 224 ppi for the Xperia Z2 Tablet). But on the 10.5-inch Super AMOLED screen of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S5 with the same resolution, the density is, of course, lower - 288 ppi. By the way, let us remind you that with Quad HD resolution the total number of pixels should be 4 times greater (2560x1440) than for HD (1280x720). As can be seen, this is also true in this case. The new product also has an increased ratio of screen area to total front panel area - 66.35% versus 64.68% for the Xperia Z2 Tablet.

Triluminos and X-Reality technologies, adapted for mobile devices. In a nutshell, Triluminos is usually explained by replacing white LEDs in the display backlight with blue ones (in fact, there is quite complex physics that operates with quantum dots). In turn, X-Reality algorithms “work magic” on the image itself, from the signal of which several components are preliminarily isolated, including texture, contour, contrast and color, and each of them is separately analyzed and processed. The result of such a cool “batch” should be more natural color rendition and improved picture quality.

In practice, the screen of the new tablet is distinguished not only by good anti-glare properties, but also by large viewing angles, as well as high contrast and a good brightness margin. And the color rendering is subjectively quite good - the colors are bright and rich, almost like on an AMOLED display. The developers did not forget about the oleophobic coating.

The display brightness can be adjusted manually, or you can use adaptive adjustment, which works quite correctly from the light sensor. When viewing photos and videos, the settings suggest using the maximum brightness mode, and the intelligent backlight control function will automatically detect whether the tablet is in your hand. It is convenient to wake up the backlight using a double tap on the screen.

Another option in the settings allows you to independently adjust color temperature. The tablet screen supports multi-touch, and test AnTuTu programs Tester and MultiTouch Tester confidently recognize ten simultaneous touches.

Taking photos on the street with a 10.1-inch tablet is not the best idea. In addition, others may misunderstand you. On the other hand, the ability to photograph and video record events will come in handy, as they say, just in case of emergency. One way or another, the photo module of the main camera of the Xperia Z4 Tablet has remained virtually unchanged compared to its predecessor. There is the same 8-megapixel Exmor RS sensor with back illumination, autofocus and digital zoom. And here front-camera, following the general fashion, has become more advanced. The resolution of the Exmor R sensor has increased from 2.2 to 5 megapixels. True, there is no autofocus here, and there is no flash, just like on the main photo module.

The image resolution for the main camera is 3264x2448 pixels (8 MP) with an aspect ratio of 4:3 and 3264x1836 pixels (6 MP) for a 16:9 widescreen frame. The camera can also record Full HD video (1080p) at a frame rate of 30 fps, while the videos are saved in MP4 container files (video - MPEG4, audio - AAC). You can see several example photos.

In turn, the front camera allows you to take “selfies” of acceptable quality with a resolution of 2592x1458 (3.7 MP; 16:9) and 2592x1944 (5 MP; 4:3) pixels, respectively. Of course, it copes well with video calls, and, like the main camera, supports recording in Full HD quality (1080p@30fps).

The interface of the Camera program is well known to all owners of Xperia family gadgets. Of the ten main photo applications, the first one worth noting is the built-in “Super Auto Mode”, where shooting parameters are optimized automatically. But the “Manual” photo application provides a set of necessary adjustments, including exposure levels and white balance, as well as predefined scenes (presets such as “Portrait”, “Beach”, “Night Scene”, etc.).

If you have nothing else to do, you can dabble with applications that offer artistic, as well as AR effects and entertainment.

The holes for the grilles of the front stereo speakers are made so inconspicuous that at first it seems that the tablet is simply “ventriloquizing”. However, it provides quite good quality sound and a decent volume reserve. Among the usual settings is the ClearAudio+ “enhancer”, the inclusion of which adjusts the sound to pre-set and, as is considered, optimal parameters. To equalize the volume of all media content, you should check the dynamic normalizer option and decide on the microphone sensitivity (automatic, high, medium, low).

The quality of playback is largely determined by the type of headphones connected. Some of them are necessary to support digital noise reduction. Others allow you to listen to music in High-Resolution Audio (DSD, WAV, AIFF, FLAC, ALAC files). When a composition is recorded in a different format, DSEE HX (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) technology is called upon to correct the situation, restoring part of the frequency spectrum lost in MP3 files. Well, when using the Sony LDAC codec in the gadget, high sound quality is guaranteed even in wireless mode. Perhaps for these reasons, there are simply no headphones included with the Xperia Z4 Tablet. And they would be useful, at least as a short-wave antenna for the built-in FM tuner with RDS.

Filling, performance

The first among the Xperia Z4 Tablet tablets received the most powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 (MSM8994) platform at the time of release, where eight 64-bit processor cores are combined with ARM big.LITTLE architecture.

At the same time, four energy-efficient ARM Cortex-A53 (1.5 GHz) cores easily cope with normal loads, and four more powerful ARM Cortex-A57 (2.0 GHz) cores are activated only when necessary. Adreno 430 (650 MHz) with support for 4K resolutions and OpenGL ES 3.1 is implemented as a graphics accelerator on a chip made according to design standards of 20 nm. According to the manufacturer, compared to Adreno 420, the new accelerator provides 30% higher performance in graphics calculations while reducing power consumption by 20%. One of the features of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 is a multi-mode modem with support for LTE Cat. 6 (LTE Advanced). Complements the basic 3 GB platform random access memory.

It is not surprising that on synthetic tests AnTuTu Benchmark 5.71, the new tablet topped the results table, earning 53,844 “virtual parrots.”

The Xperia Z4 Tablet also performed well on the Vellamo Multicore benchmarks

Despite a high resolution screen, on the Epic Citadel visual test with variable settings High Performance, High Quality and Ultra High Quality average frame rates did not change so significantly - 58.2 fps, 57.9 fps and 42.1 fps, respectively.

On the universal gaming benchmark 3DMark in the recommended Ice Storm Extreme tests, the results simply went off scale (Maxed out!). However, the final of the more difficult Ice Storm Unlimited also did not disappoint.

The total number of points earned by the Xperia Z4 Tablet on the cross-platform benchmark Base Mark OS II was 1,377.

Of the 32 GB of declared internal memory, the volume of which has doubled (Xperia Z2 Tablet - 16 GB), approximately 20.9 GB is available. It can be expanded by another 128 GB using a microSDXC card. For some reason, the external USB drive on our device did not connect, although this option (USB-OTG) is provided in the settings.

The wireless communications suite includes, among other things, 2-band Wi-Fi module 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4 and 5 GHz) with MIMO support, as well as NFC and Bluetooth 4.1 interfaces. But the IR port for controlling home electronics, like in the Xperia Z2 Tablet, is no longer here.

After installing a nanoSIM card in the appropriate slot, the Xperia Z4 Tablet (model SGP771) works in Russian cellular networks 2G, 3G and 4G. For obvious reasons, this tablet does not have a “conversational” speaker. In order not to inform others about the content of your conversations, it is convenient to make and receive voice calls, for example, using a Bluetooth headset.

The module responsible for determining location and navigation, which can operate in A-GPS mode, quickly finds available satellites from the GLONASS, Beidou and GPS constellations, giving preference to the latter.

The capacity of the non-removable lithium-polymer battery of the new tablet has not changed compared to the Xperia Z2 Tablet and is 6,000 mAh. For example, samsung tablet Galaxy Tab S 10.5 with a 10.5-inch Super AMOLED screen received more capacious battery at 7,900 mAh. By the way, the battery of the Xperia Z4 Tablet takes quite a long time to fill. Since the standard EP880 adapter provides a maximum current of 1.5 A (5 V), a full charge even theoretically requires 4 hours, which in practice results in a longer period of time.

According to the results of the AnTuTu Tester program, the Xperia Z4 Tablet battery earned 5,679 points. A test set of videos in MP4 format and HD quality played continuously for less than 6 hours at full brightness.

To extend battery life, you should lower the backlight brightness level as much as possible, and also activate the Stamina energy saving mode in the settings. In this case, according to the manufacturer, you can watch HD videos for up to 17 hours without recharging.

Software

The Xperia Z4 Tablet runs under operating room control Google systems Android 5.0.2, wrapped in a proprietary Xperia shell. This launcher took a rather careful approach to the “lollipop” interface design, where it easily dispensed with any annoying “ruffles”.

You can access the Phone (SGP771 only) and Camera apps from your tablet's lock screen. Various notifications are also available here. Swiping to the right in the application menu, along with the arrangement of icons, opens quick settings with search and removal functions for programs, as well as the ability to download new ones from Google Play and Sony Select. By tapping on the “Recent Applications” touch button, not only they are called up, but also the “Favorites Panel”, on which you can place shortcuts to programs called “small” ones (including a browser, calculator, calendar, mail).

KeyboardBKB50

Among the accessories recommended for the Xperia Z4 Tablet, it is worth noting the BKB50 Bluetooth keyboard with a built-in touchpad, which is sold not only as a set, but also separately (9,990 rubles). Thanks to a special hinge joint, the BKB50 quickly and easily turns a tablet into a laptop. The ability to change the angle between the device and the keyboard within 0-130 degrees provides the necessary comfort when working. The Bluetooth connection is organized by the NFC interface with one-touch connection, and the 400 mAh battery built into the keyboard is designed, according to the manufacturer, for daily 8-hour use for a month and a half without recharging. When connecting the BKB50 to the tablet, the interface with quick access to the main and branded ("small") Sony applications. In addition, the availability of programs Microsoft Office(Word, Excel, PowerPoint), adapted for Android, allows you to work effectively outside the office.

Purchase, conclusions

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet lives up to your wildest expectations. The developers managed to fit not only a powerful processor, but also a fairly capacious battery into a case of record light weight and thickness. At the same time, all the filling is reliably protected from water and dust. The new tablet’s bright 2K screen and high-quality sound deserve special mention.

The lack of an infrared port and the slow filling of the battery through standard charging seem to be more nitpicking than significant shortcomings (you can also remember the lack of a flash on the main camera). But the obvious disadvantage of the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet was its price: the SGP712 model (Wi-Fi only) is 41,990 rubles, and the SGP771 (Wi-Fi + LTE) is 46,990 rubles. At the same time, a set of the latest model with a Bluetooth keyboard BKB50 will cost 52,990 rubles. Even taking into account the overvalued exchange rate, this pricing seems to have been too safe.

However, among the “waterfowl” the new product simply has no competitors. At the same time, the only one that can claim the title of a real rival is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5, which debuted last year, for which they are now asking an average of 25,450 rubles. Its features include not only a weaker processor, half the amount of internal memory (16 GB) and a simple front camera (2 MP), but also quite capacious battery(7900 mAh) and a bright 10.5-inch Super AMOLED display.

So Sony decided to release a new flagship, although it was announced only for Japan, but not without reason. New model will not be much different from the Sony Xperia Z3. The reason for the repetition is quite simple to explain good design and not bad functionality did their job and the smartphone turned out to be quite successful, and the appearance of a new model is explained by the continuity of production, so it is not economically profitable to fence a garden for an already existing device, only with minor changes. Today I want to pay attention to this particular smartphone, since the interest in it is quite high, especially for those who are interested in new products, as well as, of course, Sony fans. In this article we will look at the expected main characteristics, and also see its possible pros and cons, which will help you choose best smartphone as a gift to loved ones or buy for yourself.

First impression

One of the main changes is the reduction in thickness. New flagship will become thinner than HTC, Samsung Galaxy S6, IPhone 6. The thickness of Sony Xperia Z4 is expected to be about 6.9 or 6.3 mm. This device will have a card slot. According to rumors new phone will also be protected from dust and moisture. I note that the owners of previous models complained about poor quality assembly, although the gadget was presented as protected. In addition, the microUSB connector was moved to the bottom end, and it still does not have a plug, but if the assembly is of high quality, then immersion in water will not bring any special troubles. In the end I can say that appearance won't change, so you can just read Sony description Xperia Z3.

They say that there will be two screen options with FullHD and QuadHD screen resolution. Diagonal 5.2 inches, resolution 1920 by 1080 pixels. The display will be protected from scratches and other damage Gorilla Glass. The protective glass has earned the approval of both owners and manufacturers. In the past, the company also had a problem with the firmware, we are talking about the so-called dead pixels, which make themselves felt over time. Otherwise, you can fight this, so it’s not so scary. It is unknown about the other characteristics, but based on the experience of previous models, color rendition is good, viewing angles are maximum, and the screen behaves well in the sun. In general, the characteristics are quite good, we can only hope for high-quality firmware.

Processor 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810. RAM 3 GB, built-in 32 GB, expandable up to 128 GB using a memory card. Sony Xperia Z4 will run on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS, with the addition software interface shells from Sony. In principle, the characteristics are normal, programs and applications run normally without freezing, there should be no problems with toys.

The battery capacity is 2930 mAh, which is definitely not a bad indicator even for such a processor, and it is also worth considering that the display is not very large, which allows the phone to hold a charge for a full day. Based on the previous model, I can say that the smartphone holds a charge: talk time is 16 hours, standby time is 920, while listening to music up to 130, and watching videos up to 10 hours. In general, I can say that the smartphone does not have a bad battery, but, of course, it depends on who uses it.

Camera

The main camera is 20.7 megapixels, the front one is 5.1, which will help you take high-quality selfies, not to mention chatting on Skype. There are also rumors that there will be the possibility of optical image stabilization, which will definitely improve the quality of the photo. Also, apparently, the autofocus function will remain. Of course, there are smartphones with more best camera, but here everything is not bad either, at least in the daytime the pictures come out good.

Here's another interesting video Sony review Xperia Z4

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet, in our opinion, looks nice. But its appearance evokes a feeling of deja vu: we saw the same thing last year with the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet. The tablets are not easy to distinguish from each other: they have similar shapes and sizes, a matte plastic back, the same round power button and speakers on the front panel. There are few changes: metal corners were added along the edges of the body, the camera lens “slid” a little lower. The cap was removed from the tablet’s USB connector and moved to the right, proudly calling it “Cap-less USB” (a hint of water resistance in the absence of a cap on the port). Because of this, the wireless charging connector has disappeared from below.

As before, the body is predominantly plastic, and the screen is covered with protective glass. The build quality turned out to be good for a thin tablet: nothing crunches, although it bends slightly if you press it. The main feature, as always, is the water resistance of the case - you can pour water on it or even immerse it to a depth of one and a half meters.

At the same time, the full immersion scenario is not the main one for use; you should not go too far with bathing the device. So, after another immersion in water, our tablet malfunctioned. Apparently, a drop accidentally got into the headphone jack: every half second the tablet displayed a message that someone was plugging headphones into it. After some time, the device simply began to turn off and on endlessly. As a result, we had to use proprietary utilities to restore the system. After this, the tablet worked fine, but all personal data and settings were lost.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet can be purchased in black and white colors.

Dimensions and weight - 4.5

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is one of the thinnest and lightest tablets in the world with such a diagonal. The device has become a little thinner - the body thickness reaches 6.3 mm (slightly thicker than the Apple iPad Air 2). In addition, Samsung has already announced the world's thinnest tablet, the Galaxy Tab S2.

The device weighs only 387 grams (the predecessor Z2 weighed 430 grams), which is almost 80 grams less than the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5. The tablet breaks the “psychological threshold” of 400 grams, which we have not yet seen in a 10-inch device.

Ports and interfaces - 4.8

As always, Sony has equipped its top-end Xperia Z4 Tablet with the most advanced set of wireless interfaces:

  • Dual-band Wi-Fi (a/b/g/n/ac) with support Wi-Fi Direct and DLNA
  • LTE and telephony capabilities (you can call from a 10-inch tablet)
  • NFC chip
  • Bluetooth 4.1 with A2DP support
  • A-GPS together with GLONASS and Chinese Beidou
  • FM radio.

At the same time, the tablet is almost no different from its predecessor - except that the SIM card size has now become “Nano”, the IR port has been removed, and the Bluetooth version has changed from 4.0 to 4.1.

The location of connectors and buttons is as follows:

  • On the left side are the power and volume keys
  • On the right - Micro-USB 2.0 with MHL support 3.0 (for video transmission)
  • At the top there is a Mini-jack for headphones and a slot for Micro-SD and Nano-SIM cards
  • The bottom edge is empty.

Performance - 4.6

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is one of the record holders in terms of performance and is second only to the Apple iPad Air 2. Despite the cool characteristics (3 GB of RAM and top-end hardware), its power also has a downside.

The fact is that the tablet has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, which is notorious for overheating. Its features are visible in the benchmark results: at first the hardware shows the highest results, but after several iterations the case begins to heat up, and test scores begin to drop by 20-40%. However, in general, this does not affect the overall performance during daily use - the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet works vigorously. Games like NOVA 3 and Asphalt 8 load quickly and run smoothly. In benchmarks, the tablet shows top results:

  • Epic Citadel - 47.1 fps on ultra-high settings and a resolution of 2560x1504 pixels. After several iterations - only 34.6 fps;
  • Basemark OS II - 1639 points, after a short warm-up - 1562;
  • Google Octane - on average, the browser benchmark showed 7165 points;
  • Sunspider - 745 ms, which is quite fast; if you let the tablet warm up, it takes almost twice as long - 1381 ms;
  • GeekBench 3 - 4372 points, after several iterations the result drops to 3600 points;
  • AnTuTu 5 - 57,500 points, when heating - 46,819;
  • 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited - 25,215, after several iterations - already 21,598

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is one of the most powerful tablets available today. At the same time, its performance clearly suffers due to overheating, and according to benchmark results it is inferior to the iPad Air 2, in some places it is slightly behind, and in others it lags behind very much.

Display - 4.8

The tablet's display is definitely pleasing to the eye; it is one of the best on the market. Compared to its predecessor, the screen resolution has been increased from Full HD to Quad HD (2560x1600 pixels). Also, the viewing angles of the Sony Xperia Z4 have become slightly wider. Moreover, if for smartphones this resolution is excessive, then for a 10-inch tablet this is relevant and is still noticeable to the eye - the picture becomes much clearer. Pixel density has increased from 224 to 299 per inch, which is sharper than the 8-inch Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. The display is covered with protective glass. It is also indicated that an oleophobic coating is used, but it does not help much - the screen is constantly streaked.

The maximum measured brightness of the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet was 403 cd/m2, the result, like last year, is slightly above average. At the same time, it has almost no glare and is easily readable outdoors on a sunny day. The minimum brightness is about 4 cd/m2, which is comfortable for reading in the dark. The contrast also turned out to be at a good level - 845:1, although most top-end tablets, and even its predecessor, show a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and higher. The brightness distribution of the Xperia Z4 turned out to be quite uniform - 90%. Color gamut display - slightly wider than standard sRGB. As a result, it fibs a little with colors, and we can only call color accuracy average. Separately, we note the white balance adjustment for three colors and adaptive brightness control (auto-brightness). It works quite quickly, using a sensor near the lens.

Battery - 4.0

We rated the battery life of the device as a solid four. The tablet lasts a long time, but sits down faster than top competitors like the Apple iPad Air 2 or Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5. The battery capacity remains the same as that of the Tablet Z2 - 6000 mAh.

In load mode, the tablet lasted just under 4 hours in our tests, losing to the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 (5.5 hours), Apple iPad Air 2 (4 hours) and even the Xperia Z2 Tablet (4 hours 20 minutes). A video marathon with a display brightness of 150 cd/m2 discharged the tablet in 9 hours, although the manufacturer promises twice as much, up to 17 hours! In minimum load mode, the Sony Xperia Tablet Z4 worked for almost 20 hours, this is not the most outstanding result, at the level of the Apple iPad Air 2.

It takes 5.5 hours to fully charge the tablet (1.5 A charger included). The process is quite slow, and some applications even pop up a message that the device is draining faster than it is charging. To save energy, there are Stamina modes (limiting performance, deactivating applications, Wi-Fi and mobile data) and Low Battery Mode (saving on everything, including screen brightness).

Software

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet running in operating room Android system 5.0 Lollipop. Thanks to Sony's proprietary shell, all icons, keyboards and desktops look quite unusual. The tablet can make calls, connect to Play Station 4, adjust white balance in three colors, and can also be configured for multiple users. One interesting thing is that when you press the Menu button, you can launch a number of applications in a separate small window, for example, a browser, music or a timer. If desired, you can add other applications or widgets from Play Market. What looks normal on the Sony Xperia Z3+ smartphone is already a bit small on a 10-inch screen.

In our opinion, the Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet is still “crowded” with applications, this can be seen even by the fact that only 22 GB of 32 GB is available to the user. At the same time, they can hardly be called superfluous: these are various multimedia services, navigation from Garmin, a remote control application for a TV, simple applications for image and video processing, and so on. You can literally remove several applications from them.

Cameras - 5.0

The Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet uses good, by tablet standards, 8 and 5 MP cameras. The rear camera with autofocus is suitable for side-by-side shots and shoots approximately like an average smartphone camera with the same resolution. It only lacks a flash, but it can shoot panoramas, “stabilize” the image, and it has HDR. It is also capable of recording Full HD video. Note that in “super auto mode”, which is the default, the resolution is “cut” to 6 MP.

Frontal Sony camera The 5MP Xperia Z4 Tablet does a good job of taking advanced selfies - something that's still unusual for tablets. It also has HDR and image stabilization, as well as the ability to shoot Full HD video.

As always, both cameras are equipped with a bunch of modes, the most fun of which is virtual effects on photos and videos: a scene with dinosaurs, gnomes, masks, and so on. You can also download individual scenes, for example, with a dragon, as in the posted video.

Sony Xperia Z4 will probably be one of best android smartphones of 2015. Featuring an 8-core processor, an excellent camera and, in all likelihood, a QHD screen.

Date of issue

It is not yet known when exactly the Sony Xperia Z4 will launch, but we expect it soon. With most reports pointing to a summer launch and quite possibly before the end of May, it would make sense for both products to hit shelves around the same time.

On the other hand, there are also rumors that it won't be until September, in which case it will most likely be unveiled at IFA 2015, which takes place in early September.

Price

There have been no reports yet on how much Sony's next flagship will cost, but it will likely be priced at the same level as the Sony Xperia Z3. This phone costs $800 at launch, so we expect the Sony Xperia Z4 to be around the same price point.

Design

Rumors about the Sony Xperia Z4 suggest that it will have a very similar design to the Xperia Z3. So you can expect a boxy OmniBalance design, with a lean build, a power metal button and, in all likelihood, a metal frame and glass at the back.

However, it may have slightly more rounded corners, smaller bezels, and a mirrored appearance on the front and back. So this sounds like a further improved version of Sony's standard Xperia design, rather than something new.

While it hasn't been confirmed either, it seems very likely that the Sony Xperia Z4 will have water and dust resistance, given that most high-end Sony phones and tablets already have this option.

Characteristics

Technical Sony specifications The Xperia Z4 is still unknown, but there are enough rumors to give you a pretty good idea of what to expect.

For one, the screen will likely be between 5.2 and 5.5 inches with an improved 2560 x 1440 QHD, although we can't be 100% sure on that.

The phone will almost certainly be powered by a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, as this is rumored to be the processor for most new and upcoming flagships.

This means you can expect four cores clocked at 2.0GHz and four at 1.5GHz, and most likely 3GB of RAM, although 4GB is also possible.
