As you know, Windows XP had convenient Panel quick access or Quick Launch. It was removed from newer versions of Windows for some unknown reason, and some users may feel nostalgic for this tool.

For those who miss the Quick Access Toolbar, I will show you how to get it back in Windows 10. For Win7, this instruction is also suitable. So let's get started!

Click on the Taskbar right click mouse, select Panels and then Create Toolbar...

But before that, copy the address to the clipboard, you will need it later:

You can, of course, manually follow the route:

\Users\[your username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch,

but it's long and unsporting. In addition, the display must be turned on hidden folders and files.

Now you have to select a folder for Quick Launch. This is why we copied the address in the first step, so that we can now paste it into the field Folder below and press the button Folder selection.

When we clicked on Select Folder, the window will close and the Quick Access Toolbar will appear at the bottom right.

To make the Quick Access Toolbar more compact, you can remove headings and captions. Right-click on the Quick Launch panel and uncheck the items in the menu Show signatures And Show title.

The panel now has a familiar look. Now you can stretch it by holding the two vertical sticks to the left of the panel with your mouse. If they are not there, then check that the taskbar is not pinned (Right click on the taskbar -> Properties -> Pin taskbar). To drag Quick Launch closer to the Start button, hold down the mouse and drag it all the way to the left (see figure)

In Windows 10, as in older versions of the OS, there is a panel quick launch, allowing you to quickly launch selected applications and system functions. However, in Windows 10 it is a little more difficult to turn on than in Windows 7.

To launch it, right-click on the Taskbar > Panels > Create Toolbar. In the window that opens, enter the path shell:Quick Launch and select the folder that opens:

That's it, Quick Launch will now appear in the taskbar:

You can also customize its appearance if you wish: to do this, right-click on the taskbar and uncheck the “Pin the taskbar” checkbox. Now you can move the appeared slider to the left, thereby dragging applications from the drop-down list directly to the taskbar. Also, for convenience, you can right-click on Quick Launch and turn off the display of captions and titles - then the application icons will look like this:

To add your applications to Quick Launch, simply drag their icons onto this panel. To disable this panel, right-click on the Taskbar > Panels > uncheck Quick Launch.

The RocketDock panel replaces the taskbar in Windows, which is designed to quickly launch programs. RocketDock's appearance is reminiscent of the Dock found on Mac computers.

This panel is used for quick launch necessary programs, or to quickly open frequently used folders. For some users, this implementation of quick launch will be more convenient.

The free RocketDock program installs on a computer with an operating system Windows system, a kind of Dock panel for Windows. The RocketDock panel works in approximately the same way as it was implemented on computers manufactured by Apple Corporation that run operating system Mac OS X

In this image you can see what the Dock looks like in the operating room Mac system OS X Mountain Lion.

After installing the RocketDock program on your computer, a similar panel will appear on your computer. When you hover your mouse over any application located on the RocketDock panel, an animation will be used, approximately the same as on Apple computers. When animated, application icons will increase in size.

The RocketDock program can be downloaded from the program's official website. RocketDock supports plugins that increase the functionality of the panel. You can download plugins from official page program by opening the “Get Addons!” tab.

The “Customize Icon...” window will open, in which you will need to select a new icon to launch the program. Then look at the “Properties” settings for this icon.

Everything here should already be configured. The name of this program is entered in the “Name” field, a link to the application is added to the “Object” field, and in the “ Work folder» added a link to the folder of the corresponding program. Next, click on the “OK” button.

That’s it, now after clicking on this new icon, the exact program that you associated with this icon will be launched.

On in this example, I selected one of the icons offered by the program and then associated the Notepad++ program with that icon.

You can load icons into the program from the Internet that were specially created for the RocketDock program or for other similar programs (the icons match each other).

Conclusions of the article

The free RocketDock program creates a Quick Launch bar for Windows that reminds you appearance Dock installed on Mac computers.

Many users who once worked with Windows XP remember that in this version of the system, compared to earlier modifications, quite a lot of innovations were introduced. One of these was the ability to create a quick launch panel for favorites user programs. A hibernation mode was also provided instead of sleep. Then some innovations disappeared. Further consideration is given to questions related to fast startup in Windows 10 in general, and how to turn it on or off (in several options). But let's start with understanding the processes themselves related to a quick start. There may be only two of them. And that’s exactly what we’ll be talking about.

Quick start What is it?

Basically, today most users working with computer systems under tenth control Windows versions, by fast startup we mean exclusively exiting hibernation mode. Clearly misleading! The fact is that the “top ten” also returned the ability to activate the program quick start panel, which was absent in the system versions between XP and 10.

But what is fast startup in Windows 10 specifically in relation to hibernation? Without going into technical terms, these processes can be characterized as follows. When the computer is immersed in this mode, program data and the system kernel are written to special file hiberfil.sys. When exiting this mode, the contents this file immediately transferred to RAM, which allows the system to “come to its senses” much faster than when using sleep, and all applications (and the system itself) are in that state in working condition, in which they were at the time of activation of hibernation.

Why might I need to disable Quick Start mode?

But why, then, in some cases may it be necessary to disable Windows 10 fast startup, if this mode has seemingly such undeniable advantages?

The point here is that when exiting hibernation, some drivers (most often control software graphics adapters) may not work correctly and cause conflicts at the system level, causing the entire system to freeze. Sometimes this happens immediately after exiting, sometimes after a short period of time. It would seem that you can simply reinstall or update the driver package, and the problem will disappear. However, as practice shows, Windows 10 is such that such actions do not always help. In addition, when accelerated start is deactivated, the difference in the time required to “bring the system to life” increases quite insignificantly, and the user practically does not feel it.

For that matter, standard means It is better not to use driver updates, but to install automated programs like Driver Booster. Perhaps this will give the desired result (absolutely all system drivers that require such procedures will be updated or reinstalled, without much user participation in the installation or update process).

Deactivating Quick Launch

Now directly on how to disable fast startup in Windows 10. To do this, use the power section located in the “Control Panel” (the view must be switched to displaying icons, and the panel itself must be called with the control command in the “Run” console). On laptops, access to these settings is much faster using the menu by right-clicking on the battery icon in the system tray.

In the options window, you first need to use the item for setting up the power buttons, and then in the new window, click on the hyperlink for setting up parameters that are not currently available.

After that, in the shutdown options section, you just need to uncheck the Quick Launch line and save the changes.

If you never use hibernation mode, you can disable it completely by running powercfg -h off in the Shell. In addition to deactivating hibernation, the hiberfil.sys file will be removed from hard drive freeing up a significant amount of disk space. After this, in the power section, it is advisable to check the sleep mode options so that when the battery charge is critical (for laptops), the hibernation option is not set.

Enabling Quick Start

Enable fast Windows startup 10, as is already clear, can be done in the same section by performing the opposite action. However, sometimes when entering the appropriate settings, the option may not be available (there is simply no such item there).

In this situation, the reason can be attributed to the disabled hibernation mode (disabling it was described above). Here you will have to use it again command line and enter the above command in it, replacing “off” with the parameter “on” (without quotes), or run the command powercfg /hibernate on, after which the option will appear in the settings of the current power supply scheme.

Actions with the registry

In principle, fast startup of Windows 10 can be turned on or off by setting the values of system registry keys, the editor of which is called through the Run menu with the regedit command.

Here you need to go through the HKLM branch, and then through the SYSTEM directory and control sections find the Power folder, which is located in the Session Manager directory. On the right there is a parameter HiberbootEnabled. A parameter value set to zero corresponds to disabled fast loading, unit - included.

Quick Launch Bar in Windows 10: Activation

Finally, let's see how to activate the corresponding panel, designed to quickly launch programs selected by the user.

First of all, through RMB on a free area of the “Taskbar”, select the panel section from the menu, and then use the creation of a new panel. Next you will be asked to select a quick start folder.

In the folder name field you need to enter the abbreviation shell:Quick Launch and press the select button. After this, the corresponding panel will appear on the right side of the “Taskbar” after the separator. In the RMB menu on the created panel, you need to deactivate the item to pin it and uncheck the boxes for displaying the button for viewing tasks, searching and signatures.

Setting up the panel

Now you can quickly launch programs in Windows 10 from the panel by dragging application icons onto the panel, similar to how program shortcuts are added to the standard “Taskbar”. You can also add shortcuts to the created folder (usually located in the My Documents directory by default). After completing all necessary settings The panel can be fixed if you no longer need to move it or replace the elements present in it. How advisable its use is, everyone decides for himself. By and large, a complete analogue of the usual “Taskbar” is created, only with a different location.

Instead of a total

To summarize, we can only note the fact that deactivating fast startup is required only if the system has problems with freezing when exiting hibernation mode. There is no fundamental difference in the time of “waking up”. The user simply will not feel it. Increasing space by deleting the file responsible for saving settings can also be considered a controversial issue. As for activating quick launch of programs when creating additional panel accelerated start, there is no particular point here either. It may be required only in cases where all the application icons on the “Taskbar” do not fit, and will be hidden in the quick launch. Saving space is the only plus. So, the user must decide for himself whether to activate this panel or not.

Some users prefer to keep the desktop of their operating system completely clean - without a single shortcut, but as a rule, many still have one shortcut - this is the Recycle Bin. Of course, it would be possible to completely refuse to use the recycle bin icon on the desktop by hiding it using regular means OS, but it is extremely inconvenient to do without quick access to the recycle bin. Next, using Windows 10 as an example, we’ll look at how to remove the Recycle Bin from the desktop and place it in the taskbar (quick launch).

How to add the Recycle Bin to the taskbar

So, the first thing we need is to create new folder, its location, however, like its name, has absolutely no meaning.

Drag the shortcut to the folder created in the previous step.

After that, right-click on the taskbar, select “Panels” from the context menu, and then “Create toolbar”.

Select the folder we created earlier, where we placed the recycle bin shortcut.

Right-click on the name of your folder in the Quick Launch panel, and uncheck two boxes, as in the screenshot (“Show captions” and “Show title”).

We now have a fully functional Recycle Bin in our Quick Launch bar.

If someone doesn’t like the small trash icon, then just right-click on the taskbar, select “View” in the context menu, and then simply check the box next to “Large icons”.

The trash can icon will become larger and look like the screenshot below.

Let's pin the taskbar again by checking the appropriate box, and this process can be considered complete.

How to remove the Recycle Bin from your desktop

Since we now have a fully functional Recycle Bin in the taskbar (quick launch), we no longer need the Recycle Bin shortcut on the desktop and can hide it.

Right-click on an empty area of the desktop and select “Personalization.”

In the window with parameters that opens, uncheck the box next to the trash can.

Click “Apply”, then “OK”.
