Satellite navigation:

GPS(Global Positioning System) is a satellite navigation system that provides measurements of distance, time, speed and determines the location of objects anywhere on Earth. The system is developed, implemented and operated by the US Department of Defense. The basic principle of using the system is to determine location by measuring distances to an object from points with known coordinates - satellites. The distance is calculated by the delay time of signal propagation from sending it by the satellite to receiving it by the antenna of the GPS receiver.
GLONASS(Global Navigation Satellite System) - Soviet and Russian satellite navigation system, developed by order of the USSR Ministry of Defense. The measurement principle is similar to the American system GPS navigation. GLONASS is designed for operational navigation and timing support for land, sea, air and space-based users. The main difference from the GPS system is that GLONASS satellites in their orbital motion do not have resonance (synchrony) with the rotation of the Earth, which provides them with greater stability.

Vertex is one of the top ten smartphone sales leaders in the world. Russian market. Yes Yes! You shouldn't be surprised. Smartphones of this brand occupy leading positions among all Russian brands. Vertex Impress Luck is the most budget gadget and costs 3,500 rubles. But this does not mean that it is defective, made of cheap plastic, with an old operating system and a nondescript appearance. There’s no shame in taking this “ultra-budget” out of your pocket and using it in public. The characteristics are not weak - Android 7.0, 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB, two good cameras, a 5-inch screen, as well as plastic panels that are pleasant to the touch and a modern design.

Vertex Impress Luck: Advantages and Disadvantages

An affordable “decent” smartphone on the Russian market with good equipment and a non-offensive design.

Unlike "classmates" it has on board not the last, but current version Android OS.

The body panels are made of high quality plastic. The back panel is rubberized. The panels fit together without gaps, causing only pleasant tactile sensations.

The appearance is simple, but it looks decent.

4x nuclear processor MediaTek companies paired with 1 GB of RAM easily cope with everyday tasks and pleases the user with comfortable work.

The presence of two separate slots for SIM cards and a separate slot for SD cards - for this price segment real luxury.

The speaker sounds nice. The sound is loud and clear, without the characteristic “cheap” wheezing.

+ 5-inch screen with IPS technology, which gives a nice picture and wide viewing angles.

The smartphone works great on 3G networks. GPS works well, so Vertex Impress Luck can be used in a car as a navigator.

The screen resolution is low, the processor is economical and simple, so the battery charge lasts two to three days during standard operation of the smartphone.

— Smartphone cameras take pictures of mediocre quality, although this is quite expected from an “ultra-budget” product.

— The touch buttons are not backlit, which is not comfortable in case of complete darkness.

conclusions

Vertex Impress Luck, despite the absolute leadership in budget, is clearly not such. The smartphone looks clearly more expensive than the real price. It is well assembled and pleasant to use. The gadget is well equipped - operating Android system 7.0 without additional add-ons, a five-inch screen with IPS technology, a fast and economical processor, 8 GB of internal memory, two cameras with flash and a number of other advantages typical only for more expensive models. Vertex Impress Luck is a worthy solution for budget-conscious people who need a reliable and functional device for at least two to three years.

If you open news about smartphones on specialized sites, you see the same thing. Samsung flagships, Sony flagships, LG flagships, iPhone X... Everyone writes about them. That is, about devices costing 30-60 thousand rubles and more. Of course, it is interesting to read about such models. But then Russians go to stores and most often buy completely different devices.

The situation in retail network MegaFon. According to the results of the pre-New Year sales at the end of 2017, the first place there was not taken by the Galaxy S8. And not the iPhone X. And not any other flagship. The first in terms of unit sales was Vertex Impress Luck. This particular model turned out to be MegaFon's best-selling model. Which is not surprising: the price of the smartphone is 3.5 thousand rubles. Thus, this is the most affordable device on the Russian market: there are analogues, but they are several hundred rubles more expensive. However, what does analogue mean? For that kind of money they usually offer smartphones made of cheap plastic, nondescript and with old Android versions. The kind that are not only difficult to use in real life (due to the brakes), but also downright unpleasant. As they say, it’s a shame to take it out of your pocket.

Vertex Impress Luck is anything but. Even despite the lowest possible price, a first for the Russian market. It looks quite decent, is well assembled and carries on board not the outdated Android 5.1 or 6.0, like its “competitors,” but Android 7.0. Also, of course, not latest version, but quite relevant. In general, Vertex has turned out to be an interesting “ultra-budget” phone: it manages to be the first in price, but at the same time far from the weakest in terms of characteristics and design.

ABOUTVertex

For order, a few words about the Vertex brand. I think it will be interesting for readers to find out who released the best-selling device of the pre-New Year sales (that is, one of the most popular smartphones in Russia at the end of 2017). Vertex ranks sixth in smartphone sales on the Russian market - as they say, find out and be surprised. Many believe that the top ten consists mainly of large international brands. But no, everything is different. Vertex is sixth in Russia. And ahead of Sony, HTC, Micromax and ZTE. And Vertex is the first in terms of sales among all Russian smartphone brands.

Vertex has a specific policy regarding device design and quality control. Regarding the design, we can say this: the brand does not offer faceless and unpleasant-looking smartphones at all. Despite the low prices, each Vertex device has some kind of zest. And Vertex Impress Luck also has it (we will definitely return to this issue below). With quality control of manufactured smartphones, everything is even more interesting. Vertex says, not without pride, that the defect rate in their smartphones does not exceed 2%. And this is really extremely, extremely little. Usually local Russian brands are very friendly with defects. The share of defective smartphones often exceeds 10%. In the market as a whole, if we take into account large, reputable companies, the defect rate is around 5%. That is, 5% of all released devices have one defect or another. 5% is the average probability that you will be “happy” about the defect in the smartphone you purchased immediately after purchasing it or within a couple of days. This is the average for everyone, but not for Vertex.

So Vertex’s quality is really top-notch - a measly 2% versus 5% and even 10%! Vertex is the first in quality among budget smartphone manufacturers.

And one moment. Vertex takes a creative approach to shaping its line of smartphones. There are no dozens of pass-through models, as is the case with many second-tier brands, in the Vertex smartphone line. There are only smartphones with a twist. Some models are the first on the market in some respect, others are the best. Let's say, Vertex Impress Tor and Impress Grip are the first budget secure smartphones in Russia based on Qualcomm chipsets (USA). This ensures high-quality navigation and low power consumption, which is very important for secure smartphones (after all, they are usually taken by tourists and travelers). Vertex Impress Luck, in turn, belongs to the “best” category. He, as mentioned above, is the most affordable smartphone on the market - 3.5 thousand rubles.

Equipment

It is as simple as possible: instructions, warranty, MicroUSB cable and a 1 A charging unit. From it, the Vertex Impress Luck charges 100% in about two hours.

Appearance and design

On the one hand, Vertex Impress Luck looks quite simple - it does not have any very bright elements. Simply because of the budget nature of the device.

On the other hand, the back of the model is very similar to the iPhone 5c. At one time there was such a plastic device, positioned as the most inexpensive smartphone Apple. So here's the Vertex Impress Luck - both in feel and in the design of the rear panel it resembles this very iPhone 5c. And no, we are not talking about direct mindless copying. It's just that the proportions and design of the rear are very similar. And for a smartphone for 3,000 rubles, this is a very compliment. I must admit that the Vertex Impress Luck is the first budget smartphone in many years that really pleased me with its design.

Moreover, the Vertex Impress Luck is much nicer to the touch than the iPhone 5c and many other inexpensive plastic Android smartphones. The fact is that almost all of them have back covers made of hard plastic. Whether it is matte or glossy, this material looks cheap and is not very pleasant to the touch. Or the Vertex Impress Luck: it has a rubberized back panel, a little velvety. And just very pleasant. You don’t even expect that a smartphone for 3,000 rubles can provide such positive tactile sensations. But that's exactly how it is!

The rear panel of the smartphone houses the camera, flash and speaker. The latter provides good sound. Of course, you shouldn’t expect the sound to be at the level of some iPhone X. And yet, the Vertex Impress Luck sings quite loudly and without annoying hoarseness, as is often the case with devices with an ultra-low price tag.

Above the display of the Vertex Impress Luck there is a proximity sensor, speaker and front camera. Everything is simple here: the sensor turns off the screen correctly and in a timely manner when you bring the smartphone to your ear, and the speaker clearly transmits speech. The camera, accordingly, allows you to take selfies. We will return to the quality of images and photographic capabilities below in the appropriate section. What the model doesn't have is a light sensor. Therefore, automatic screen brightness adjustment is not possible.

Below the screen are three touch control buttons. It's a pity that they are not backlit. In the dark you have to poke at random. At first it is noticeably disturbing, but after a couple of days you get used to it. Let me draw your attention to the fact that much more expensive smartphones do not have backlit buttons - for example, some Xiaomi ones costing 10 thousand rubles. So for a device that costs 3 thousand, this is quite forgivable. Although, I repeat, it’s not particularly pleasant.

The back panel of the Vertex Impress Luck is removable. The battery is also removable. This is good: if something happens, after several years of using the smartphone, you can buy a new battery and use it for several more years. In the majority modern smartphones, we remind you that the batteries are built-in. And they can only be replaced in service center, and even then not always.

We remove the battery from the Vertex Impress Luck and get access to three slots at once. Two are for MicroSIM format SIM cards, and the third can accommodate a MicroSD card. It's great that the Vertex Impress Luck has separate sockets. Today this is extremely rare. Most often, you can insert either two SIM cards into smartphones, or one SIM card and MicroSD. The hero of this review does not have such an annoying limitation. Despite, again, the first price on the market.

The MicroUSB port for connecting charging and the 3.5 mm headphone jack are located on the top edge of the case. Important point: The sockets are spaced apart, and connecting “ears” while the smartphone is charging is quite possible. This is an important point, since often the ports in cheap devices are also located nearby. So close that you can’t plug in the cable and headphones at the same time. Vertex Impress Luck does not have this problem.

The volume rocker and power button are on the right. The keys are comfortable and move in their grooves clearly. Please note that the volume rocker is divided into two parts by a small notch. Which is very convenient: it makes it easier to feel the upper and lower halves. In general, it should be noted that in terms of ergonomics, the device has many such thoughtful little details. Which, I repeat once again, is not what you expect from a smartphone with the first, lowest price on the market.

To sum up my impressions of the case: Vertex Impress Luck is extremely neatly assembled, it is very comfortable and looks more expensive than it costs. One could expect similar sensations from a smartphone costing 5-6 thousand rubles, but Vertex Impress Luck is half the price!

Display

The smartphone uses a 5-inch display with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. The screen is made using IPS technology, which guarantees pleasing to the eye color rendition and wide viewing angles. By the way, it’s great that Vertex Impress Luck uses IPS. Often, ultra-budget devices still have cheap TN screens, which give a much less pleasant picture.

It is curious that in the Vertex Impress Luck settings there was a whole set of tools for adjusting the image. For example, you can manually adjust contrast, saturation, color temperature. In short, completely customize the picture on the screen to suit you.

The front part of the smartphone is covered with glass. Often, budget models use plastic, and rough plastic at that. This makes moving your finger across the display unpleasant. In the case of Vertex Impress Luck, we see an absolutely smooth surface. This is a big plus.

Hardware platform

The 4-core MediaTek MT6580 chipset is a time-tested and reliable solution. It is not mega-productive, but it provides quite decent operating speed. No Android interface, no browsers, no clients social networks don't slow down. Random access memory The device doesn't have much space, 1 GB, but the screen resolution is low - 480 x 854. All this together ensures normal operating speed. So the Vertex Impress Luck is also a very fast smartphone.

Moreover, on Vertex Impress Luck you can even play modern toys with a decent level of graphics quality. Here's a smartphone for 3 thousand rubles!

As an example, let’s take a video of Mortal Kombat X - this is a serious modern game with 3D graphics, rich in dynamic scenes. I didn't notice any brakes on it. The Vertex Impress Luck hardware handled graphics processing without any problems.

In benchmarks, the smartphone shows an expectedly low number of points. And this is normal: you didn’t think that a device for 3 thousand rubles would be able to compete on equal terms with any Samsung Galaxy S9, which costs about 60 thousand? And yes, we should not forget that all these points do not play a huge role in practice. Yes, Vertex Impress Luck doesn't have a lot of points. But it works quickly and allows you to play games. What else is needed?

Connection

Unfortunately, Vertex Impress Luck does not support LTE. But this is absolutely expected for a smartphone with the first, lowest price. Models for 4G networks go on sale from 6 thousand. So, we repeat, there is nothing to complain about. Well, our hero works perfectly in 3G networks.

There are no problems with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth either. Same with navigation. The smartphone found 9 satellites in less than a minute and navigated adequately by them. For budget model This is a very positive point: GPS often works very poorly for smartphones with “below the baseboard” price tags. But Vertex Impress Luck is good. The device can be used as a navigator both in the car and outside it.

Here, perhaps, we’ll add that the Vertex Impress Luck has an FM radio. It only works when headphones are connected (they act as an antenna) and allows you to record broadcasts.

Autonomous operation

Vertex Impress Luck is equipped with a 2200 mAh battery. Since the screen of the device has a low resolution, and the chipset is simple and economical, time battery life reaches approximately three days. This is if you don't watch videos or play. If you do this, you can count on a day and a half. Which is also quite good for the most inexpensive Android smartphone.

Let us add once again that the battery of the Vertex Impress Luck is removable. So after a few years, when the supplied battery loses its capacity, you can buy another one. And install it yourself, without resorting to the free help of specialists from the service center.

Cameras

Since the device is ultra-budget, it is at least short-sighted to expect incredible photographic capabilities from it. Color rendition, of course, is far from ideal. Clarity is also poor at times. But you can take pictures of text using the 5-megapixel rear camera. And then it won’t be at all difficult to make it out in photographs.

Front camera 2 megapixels. Let's just show an example of a picture taken with its help:

The shooting interface is quite convenient. There are a lot of settings. If you wish, you can dig deeper into them and, perhaps, achieve some improvement in the quality of the photo. But, I repeat, you shouldn’t count on miracles.

Software

Unlike many “ultra-budgeters” who come with outdated versions Android 60 or 5.1, Vertex Impress Luck carries Android 7.0 Nougat on board. That is, quite relevant (although also far from the latest; however, it is obvious that 7.0 is better than 6.0 or even more so 5.1).

The interface remained standard - Vertex did not change anything. As a result, we see pure Android without unnecessary shells, which often only provoke glitches and slowdowns without providing any particular benefit.

There are a number of pre-installed applications. However, they can be easily removed; they are not tightly built into the firmware. For this, big respect to the guys from Vertex: often all this pre-installed junk cannot be removed from smartphones. Junk only takes up precious memory (by the way, the Vertex Impress Luck has 8 GB of this same memory plus MicroSD).

Gesture controls were found in the settings. The most curious of them is turning on the screen by double tapping. This option is rarely found in smartphones, even expensive ones.

There is support for over-the-air updates. While testing Vertex Impress Luck, another update just arrived. Of course, I installed it immediately.

I didn’t find any innovations, so probably the developers just optimized something. And this, by the way, is very cool: manufacturers often abandon their budget smartphones immediately after the start of sales and no updates are released for them.

Conclusion

So, first of all, let us remind you that Vertex Impress Luck is the most cheap smartphone on the Russian market: they sell it for about 3,500 rubles. The closest models in price cost about 4000. The difference does not seem to be great, but for those who buy such ultra-budget models, every extra hundred is critical. So Vertex Impress Luck is not without interest in this regard: it is 500 rubles cheaper than its competitors. At the same time, the smartphone looks very decent - clearly more expensive than it costs. Vertex Impress Luck is the first budget device in the last five years that I personally was pleased with its design. In appearance, it can be estimated at 5 thousand. Plus, its similarity to the iPhone 5c gives it additional points. As does the back panel, which is very pleasant to the touch. As a rule, competitors have nothing like this. Although they are even a little more expensive - by the same 500 rubles.

Vertex’s quality is also very decent - don’t forget that in terms of quality control and ultra-low defect rates, Vertex is the first among all manufacturers of budget smartphones. And yes, during testing we did not have any complaints about the build quality of the Vertex Impress Luck, or the performance of the software, or anything else.

Among other features and advantages of Vertex Impress Luck, it is worth mentioning Android 7.0 OS. Since many similar budget smartphones come with older versions 6.0 or 5.1. They are less convenient and consume more energy. The screen of the Vertex Impress Luck is, again, decent: it uses a good IPS matrix, and not a faded cheap TN. In general, there are a whole bunch of advantages. And the main thing is that Vertex Impress Luck is not perceived as a cheap, low-grade device for very unassuming people. He is never like that. This is a worthy solution for budget-conscious friends who want to buy a reliable item for a couple of years.

  • Nice design;
  • Normal build quality;
  • Sufficient performance for modern games;
  • Bright screen.
  • The quality of photo shooting with both cameras.
