I want to say right away that I am far from an expert in satellite television. All I can boast about is this :)

Not long ago, I had to choose a TV. I chose the LG 32LN575U. Well, and of course, like probably everyone else, I read reviews, looked in online stores, and noticed in its description the presence of a digital tuner DVB-S2.

I googled a little and realized that the presence of digital DVB-S tuner 2 allows you to directly connect a satellite dish to your TV and watch satellite TV without a receiver. If we talk in simple words, then DVB-S2 is a satellite tuner built into the TV. Since I have satellite TV, I became interested.

A lot of LG TVs (and not only LG companies), equipped with a digital tuner standard DVB-S2. This can be seen in the description specific model. Here is an example description of the characteristics of the LG 32LN575U TV on the official website:

After the purchase, I, of course, tested the operation of this digital satellite receiver, which is built into the TV. But everything turned out to be not as rosy as you probably think. If you watch about 70-80 “our” channels (for free) through a satellite receiver, then by simply connecting the dish to the TV, you will only be able to watch completely open, unencrypted channels. Among them, I found neither Ukrainian nor Russian (though I didn’t look very hard).

The thing is that the firmware of our satellite receivers has already included keys that allow you to watch encrypted satellite channels. On TV, these keys are, of course, not hardwired. And there is no way to somehow lead them there, or change the firmware. The companies that produce these TVs don't need this at all.

You may ask, what is this DVB-S2 for then? To watch things no one needs open channels? No, not at all. I think that all TVs that have a DVB-S2 digital tuner support CAM modules. This is a module into which a paid card is inserted satellite television, and which in turn is inserted into the TV, into the connector PCMCIA, which looks like this:

As the input source, select Satellite. Click Further.

The next stage is choosing a satellite and setting it up. You can press the button Changing satellite settings, in order to configure the satellite on which you want to search for channels. Or click Further to search for channels on an already selected satellite.

If you go to the satellite settings, a window will open with many different settings. As you can see, my signal quality and signal level are almost maximum. This means that my antenna is tuned to the selected satellite. In this case, it's HOTBIRD 13.0E. It is possible to add a satellite, just click on the button Add satellite. Can be set DiSEqC etc.

Close this window and click Further. Select search parameters. If you don’t have a CAM module, then you can check the box next to the item Skip encrypted channels. You still won't be able to watch them. I didn't select anything else and just clicked Execute.

The satellite will begin scanning and searching for channels. The overall scan statistics will be displayed, and the number of digital satellite channels found and the number of radio channels found.

You can stop scanning at any time by pressing the button Stop. All found channels will be saved.

As soon as the scanning is completed, or you stop the search, you will immediately proceed to viewing the found channels.

You can go back to the settings, to the Channels tab. There will be more items available there. You can perform manual tuning, sort the found channels, set up a satellite, or edit the transponder.

To switch from watching satellite channels, for example, to terrestrial television, or HDMI connector, press the button on the remote control INPUT.

I hope my article is useful to you, and my time was not wasted :)

If I forgot to write something, or wrote it wrong, please correct me. You can ask questions in the comments, or on the forum thread.

Every year TVs become smarter and more advanced. Leading manufacturers do not stand still and are constantly coming up with new technologies and capabilities for their products. One of these interesting innovations is the built-in DVB-S2 digital tuner on some models of LG TVs (and many other manufacturers). At first glance, an unremarkable technology, which can even get lost among many others, reveals quite interesting opportunities.

What is it and why is it needed? Thanks to the fact that the TV has such a device, you can watch satellite TV without using a special receiver. You could say this is some kind of built-in receiver. Therefore, you can directly connect a “dish” to the TV and receive channels from the satellite.

Now tuners of this standard are gaining particular popularity, which is why they can be found on many TVs. You can make sure that a specific model has DVB-S2 technology by looking at the description of the TV, which is available on the manufacturers’ official websites. For example, it might look like this:

We decided to test the operation of the digital tuner on an LG TV. Overall, it's not bad, but not perfect. Unfortunately, it turned out that using DVB-S2 it is possible to catch only completely open channels. In our case, there were no Ukrainian or Russian among them. Which is no longer very good. This is due to the fact that special keys are usually sewn into receivers that are used in the CIS for viewing encrypted channels. Such keys are not entered into televisions and there is no way to do this. For manufacturers there is no particular need for this. But then why write an article about a not very useful device, you ask? After all, what is so interesting about channels that are broadcast in incomprehensible languages and do not always show interesting programs? But not everything is as sad as it might seem at first glance. TVs that have DVB-S2 also have support for CAM modules. You can insert a special card into these modules to receive pay television from a satellite. The module itself connects to the TV via PCMCIA interface. It looks like this:

To switch between different signal sources (cable TV, HDMI, etc.), press the INPUT button on the remote control and select the desired source.

In general, there is nothing complicated here. Just connect the configured antenna and start searching for channels. If something doesn’t work out, or you have questions, describe your problem in the comments, and we will definitely help.

More recently, connect home TV To watch television channels from a satellite, it was only possible to use a dish antenna through a special receiver - a satellite receiver. Is it possible to get satellite TV without a dish and without a receiver?
It is now possible to view satellite TV without receiver. Many modern TV models have a built-in digital tuner that supports the DVB-S2 standard, and a special slot for installing a CI+ access module. If you have a connected and correctly configured satellite dish, the TV is receiving signals satellite operator and allows you to watch satellite TV without a receiver set-top box. The antenna cable from the satellite dish must be connected using an F-connector to a special antenna input located next to the input of a regular terrestrial antenna.

Undoubtedly, this connection convenient for several reasons:
1) There is no need to purchase an additional device - a satellite receiver.
2) There is no need to free up space in the interior to install it.
3) To view, you only need one television remote control, not two. This is much more convenient to use - you don’t need to grab different remote controls, and besides, they have the ability to get lost and fail.
4) The number of wires connected to the TV is reduced.

released by many famous manufacturers television equipment: Samsung, LG, Philips and others. The external difference of a satellite receiver on a TV is the presence next to the input of a regular antenna, another antenna input with a threaded connection for the F-connector. However, the presence of a second tuner does not always mean the ability to connect a satellite dish. The same input is used to connect DVB-T digital terrestrial channels or DVB-C cable channels. Only the presence of a DVB-S or DVB-S2 tuner in the TV's characteristics means the ability to receive satellite television channels. Often, such an antenna input is combined for all types of digital signals and is designated DVB-T/T2/C/S/S2. The S2 standard is more modern, but TVs with built-in satellite receiver standard S, receive both standard and high-definition HDTV signals.

To decode channels you need a CAM module and an access card. Without this module, it is only possible to view an extremely limited number of channels broadcast without encoding in the public domain. All TVs with a DVB-S2 digital tuner support CAM modules - a device into which a satellite television operator card is inserted, and which in turn is inserted into the PCMCIA connector of the TV.
After installing the module, you need to connect the cable from the satellite dish to a special socket on the TV using the F-connector. Next, you need to start the TV to search for satellite channels.
In the TV menu you need to select the input signal source: terrestrial TV, cable TV, satellite - put a tick in the appropriate box. We search for satellite channels on all frequencies. The TV finds a large number of channels and stores them in its memory, while only information channels are open for viewing. At this stage, the functionality of the module inserted into the pcmcia slot and the compatibility of the CI+ card with the TV are checked.

Next, you need to register the agreement and activate the purchased conditional access card. On the provider’s website, you need to select a package of television channels, enter the contract number and smart card number. In the "Terminal Model" field, you must select CI+.
After submitting your registration application, you must leave the TV on one of the encrypted channels of the program package you have chosen. The connection occurs automatically within two hours.

TV with two satellite receivers

TV models with two satellite receivers allow you to simultaneously view two satellite television channels in PIP mode, or record one channel while watching another.
To watch a satellite channel and simultaneously record another channel, you need to connect two identical cables from the satellite dish to the TV directly without a receiver. Connect the first cable from the satellite dish directly to the SAT 1 connector, and the second - to the SAT 2 connector. To do this, use coaxial cable with corresponding F-connector. Before starting installation, check the location of the satellite dish. During satellite installation, select Dual Tuner mode.

Manually tuning your TV to satellite channels without a receiver

To manually tune satellite channels without a receiver, you need to select MANUAL TUNING and DIGITAL CHANNEL on the TV remote control in the MENU section. In the FREQUENCY parameter, enter the value 144000 KHz, in the MODULATION parameter enter the value QAM 64, in the TRANSMISSION RATE parameter set the value 6900 KS/S. Search for channels.
This tuning procedure must be repeated for frequencies 122000, 130000, 138000, 154000, 162000, 298000, 394000 KHz.

CAM module Tricolor

CAM module Tricolor allows you to view satellite channels on modern TVs with a CI slot. Thus, it replaces the necessary additional equipment - digital receiver, the tricolor card is inserted into the TV like into a satellite receiver. Additional condition watching satellite channels without a receiver is the presence of a DVB-S/S2 digital tuner in the television receiver. Such a tuner is installed in almost all modern mid-price TVs currently produced. You can check this using the technical specifications in the TV's operating instructions. The Tricolor CAM module allows you to receive transmissions as standard digital quality SD and in High Quality HD television image.

It has the following purpose: decoding MPEG2\4 TV channels protected from unauthorized viewing by the operator's conditional access system. The Tricolor CI+ module is Plug and Play, its installation is simple and straightforward. With its help, one television or radio channel of Tricolor TV is decoded simultaneously. The system supports only 14-digit identification numbers of the Tricolor TV smart card of the form xx0245хх…xx

Satellite TV without NTV plus receiver

Set satellite TV without receiver NTV+ allows you to view satellite TV channels NTV plus, on modern TVs. A prerequisite is the presence in the television receiver of a DVB-S2 digital tuner and a special Common Interface CI+ slot into which you must insert an NTV card. Thus, there is no need for a special satellite receiver; it is enough to install a special dish in the satellite visibility range, set to position 36E. Then you need to insert it into the slot TV CAM module with a conditional access card installed in it, and enjoy watching NTV satellite channels.

How to set up satellite TV on your TV?

How to set up satellite TV on your TV ELENBERG? There is a socket for connecting a dish, but I can’t even find instructions for it anywhere.

We are often approached with this question, and, as a rule, it is the owners of televisions that are not among the well-known brands. Such devices can receive regular television channels quite well and have acceptable image parameters. But the presence of a satellite tuner does not mean the possibility of stable reception of this type of signal.
Television operators transmit signals on different channels and with different technical characteristics: for reception on S or S2 tuners, using different versions of the CI module, with different bit rates. For stable reception of modern television from a receiving antenna directly, without a receiver, it is necessary that the TV has the following parameters:
Availability of digital built-in satellite tuner DVB-S2.
Availability of an interface for connecting electronic modules CI new version CI+ (CI Plus).
The latest version of the software is required to work correctly.
Supports signal bit rate of 45000 MHz. The conditional access card must be placed in the module so that the chip faces in the direction opposite to the barcode sticker on the CAM module.
Insert the module with the card installed into it into a special slot on the pcmci TV with the barcode to the screen. Installation completed.
