Wireless router Dlink dir-300 is a kind of dinosaur among routers of its class, suffice it to say that after the first Dlink dir-300 model became outdated, various analogs of Dlink dir-300 B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7 began to appear that are superior in speed and the functionality of your prototype. But in order to use additional functionality without interruption, I recommend updating your Dlink to the latest firmware, which is what this article is about.

First of all, you need to configure the network on your computer/laptop to automatic acquisition of IP address and DNS server

Before updating the firmware, be sure to find out the hardware revision (H/W) of your router. To do this, look at the affixed label located at the bottom of the router. This sticker has an inscription that begins with “H/W Ver.:”. The letter and number following it indicate the hardware revision, also pay attention to the firmware version “F/W Ver.:”

Once you have determined the revision of your DIR-300 NRU and its version, download latest firmware, according to the audit
Important!!! You CANNOT install firmware for DIR-300 NRU hardware versions B1, B2 and B3 into a DIR-300 NRU router that has hardware revision B5, B6 and vice versa. This will lead to a complete failure of your device. After this, it will be possible to restore the router only for money by contacting a specialized service center.
If you have Dlink dir-300 NRU B1/ B2/ B3, then download this firmware from here .
If Dlink dir-300 NRU B5/ B6/ B7 then you need to download the firmware here from here .
If you have Dlink dir-300 A/B, download the firmware from here.
In this article, as an example, I will update the firmware of the Dlink dir-300 NRU (hardware revision B5), but the update process is similar for all Dlink routers, so it may also be suitable for updating the Dlink dir-300 NRU B1, B2, B3, B6, B7.

So let's start, in the browser (recommended Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox.) enter in address bar your router address, the default is used 192.168.0.1 (login admin, password admin)

Then, for security purposes, Dlink will prompt you to change your password, enter and click "Save".

After this, the router's web interface will open.

In order to start the update you need to go to the path « System - Update BY".

Then click "Review" indicate the path to the downloaded update and click "Update".

In this article we will only talk about the dir300 router, revision B1. Turn the router over and look at the bottom surface, where the sticker will indicate its hardware revision (look for the line H/W Ver: B1). This model differs from the older one as appearance, and the firmware version (starts from 2.00), look carefully at the photo above. The main difference between revisions A1 and B1 is the chip on which the router is based, in our case, the H/W Revision B1 router is based on the Ralink RT3050 chip. By the way, hardware design WiFi router dir-300NRU is exactly the same as dir-600, which is a complete analogue of 300NRU and is produced for the European zone.

WiFi firmware D-Link router DIR-300NRU Rev. B1

Installing DD-WRT firmware on the D-Link DIR-300 Revision B1 is done via standard web router interface. Further point by point:

1. Download the firmware from this site or check more new version at http://dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database by typing DIR-300 B1 into the search. We need the file dlink-revb- factory-webflash.bin

2. Connect dir-300 ‘direct’ network cable from the kit (any of the 4 LAN ports of the router) with a computer.
Assign in the connection properties by local network on the computer the IP address is 192.168.0.15 and the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0

3. Launch the browser (it is best to use IE) and go to web interface by typing http://192.168.0.1 in the address bar
Enter your login and password, for a new router the default login is admin, there is no password (empty) and the confirmation code from the figure. If you have set it up, please enter your passwords.
Go to the Maintenance tab and then Firmware Update, click “browse” -> look for the downloaded file dlink-revb-factory-webflash.bin click “Upload”

4. For several minutes, while the DIR300 is being flashed, you cannot turn off the power or interrupt the process in any way. For reliability and to save some nerves, I advise you to perform this operation by connecting the router and computer via UPS (uninterruptible power supply).

5. After flashing the firmware, the router will reboot and become accessible at 192.168.1.1. Let's enter it into the address bar of the browser and see the DD-WRT web interface. If the page does not load, try clearing your browser cache, closing it and opening it again. The login and password for the DD-WRT firmware is root/admin.

Updating the DD-WRT version

For subsequent firmware updates from DD-WRT, use the file dir300-revb- ddwrt-webflash.bin. Download here - or at http://dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database by typing DIR-300 B1 into the search.

1. Open the DD-WRT web interface in the browser, by default it is located at 192.168.1.1
2. Select the Administration tab -> click “Firmware Upgrade”
3. Next “browse” -> select the downloaded file “dir300-revb-ddwrt-webflash.bin” -> “Upgrade”

After a few minutes, the router will reboot and update web page. After flashing the firmware, I recommend turning off the power to the router and turning it on again (some kind of power reset).

Return to official D-Link firmware

Returning the official firmware is also not difficult and the execution algorithm is exactly the same as in the paragraph - “Updating the DD-WRT version”. Naturally, we need to have a pre-prepared firmware file, download - . You can also download from the official FTP servers D-link ftp://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/Router/DIR-300_NRU/Firmware/, selecting the latest version.

Rollback to factory firmware via Emergency Room

Sometimes there are situations when returning to the factory firmware is not possible using the method described above. In this case, we use the Emergency Room.

1. Perform a factory reset, either through the DD-WRT web interface or with the reset button.
2. Remove all ethernet cables, leaving only the LAN1 connection from the router -> PC. We always use the “straight” wire (blue included in the kit).
3. In the properties network adapter computer, set the static address 192.168.0.15, subnet mask 255.255.0.0
4. Remove the power supply plug from the router, press the reset button, and without releasing the button, insert the power back in, wait for the router to boot for about 15 seconds and only then release the button.
5. Now quickly open the browser, enter http://192.168.0.1 and in front of us is the Emergency room. Select the firmware file dir300b_v2.05_abnj.bin and click “Upload Now”.

Well, now briefly, why this whole idea of flashing DIR 300NRU?

The firmware is made on Linux based and is a miniature operating system, many advanced settings appear, which are located much more logically. Ability to cut a channel with priority services (QoS). You can block sites by page address or simply by domain name.

For 300 nru h/w ver.: b5-7
What is the essence of these actions:
Firmware from DLINK has long been famous for its imperfections and crookedness. They slow down, slow down, hang.
Revision router data b5, b6, b7 identical to the routers of the family ZyXEL KEENETIC START and are perfectly flashed, after certain manipulations, to the firmware from START.

Among the advantages of changing to START:
faster operation of the router
no glitches or freezes

Of the minuses:
The processor gets hot, it is desirable, but not necessary, a radiator.

The firmware process itself:
If you have a router out of the box, with firmware 1.2.94 and below, then start from point 4 .
If you have firmware version 1.4.9 , then you need to restore the old bootloader in the router, which will allow you to flash the required firmware. Downgrading firmware will not help you, because they do not restore the bootloader.
The new bootloader will not allow you to flash the "left" firmware not from DLINK.

How to downgrade uboot and change with official firmware 1.4.9 for firmware from keenetic start:

1. Downgrade off version. firmware and upgraded to Keenetic LiteB.
Address network card 192.168.0.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 default gateway 192.168.0.1
(I left it on automatic)

Via the web interface, sequential downgrade of firmware versions:
192.168.0.1 => Software update => DIR_300NRUB5_1.3.0__12012012.bin => DIR_300NRUB5-1.2.94-20110414.bin => DIR_300NRUB5-to-KeeneticLiteB.fwz

(The archive contains a set of firmware in .bin and .fwz formats. I don’t remember where I got it from, but I flashed it with them. I successfully downgraded the versions and switched to Light)

2. Launch the tftpd.32r server on your computer
Download the bootloader - mtd1.bin and rename it to uboot.bin, put it in the root folder of the tftp server or in the server settings specify the path to the folder with the file uboot.bin

3.
Network card address 192.168.1.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0
(I also left it automatic)
Telnet into the router:
telnet 192.168.1.1
Enter password (1234 or your own)
Get root access:
flash || sh
Copy the bootloader from your computer to the router’s memory:
tftp -g -r uboot.bin -l /var/tmp/uboot.bin 192.168.1.33 (or corresponding computer address)
Upload the bootloader to the mtdblock/0 partition
cat /var/tmp/uboot.bin >/dev/mtdblock/0
reboot the router:
reboot

We enable the telnet client in Win7\8 (on XP telnet is enabled by default)
Start -> Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> Turn it on or off windows components -> Telnet client(check the box) ->OK

Running tftpd.32
Drop the folder with tftpd.32 to disk C. Let's launch tftpd.32 and select the source 192.168.1.33 (or the address specified in the properties of the network card)

Right in the Windows7 search bar we forget: telnet 192.168.1.1
Sometimes it doesn't ask for a password or login. There is a "#" icon and something else.
Enter flash || sh and try to connect to the router.
Further everything according to the instructions.

4. Firmware KEENETIC_START via failsafe ui(recovery mode).
Network card address 192.168.0.10, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, default gateway 192.168.0.1

Through failsafe ui(turn off the router, hold down reset, connect power, wait 15-20 seconds, release reset)
Enter the address in your browser:
192.168.0.1
select KEENETIC_START-V2.02C1
Wait for the router firmware to finish and reboot. This takes 2-4 minutes. During firmware installation, do not turn off the power under any circumstances.

5. Set the network card address and subnet mask automatically.
Go to the web interface at 192.168.1.1 --> Reset the router to factory settings.

After all b5-b7 through the web interface you can update 2.02 to 2.03 from the zyxel website

You perform all actions with your router at your own peril and risk!

Everything you need in one archive.

Let's talk about the case when you, having changed your wired Internet provider, have... How can I return it to its original state? To begin, you need to go to ftp.dlink.ru and prepare the original version file for firmware 1.2.94 . Especially for this D-Link prepared the file DIR_300NRUB5-1.2.94-20110414.fwz located at ( http://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/Router/DIR-300_NRU/Firmware/B5/Old/). Not all browsers will be able to directly enter this address, so searching the desired file let's start with ( http://dlink.ru/ru/support/)

On the right side of the page you can see a link to file server D-Link (FTP.DLINK.RU). Please note that we need a file with the extension .fwz The .bin file located in the same folder sewing a router is useless.

We go to the router at the address 192.168.1.1 , select advanced settings, go to the section SystemSoftware Update.

Select the firmware file we need and click on the execute button in the lower right corner of the screen.

The process of updating the router firmware begins. It lasts about 5 minutes. It is very important not to turn off the power to the router and the computer from which the firmware is being installed. .

At the end of the update, we will receive on the screen this picture, well known to many)

There is no need to be afraid. This happened because after the update and reboot, the address of our router changed. Now he 192.168.0.1. Now, in order for the router to be ready for configuration, you need to return it to the factory settings by pressing the RESET button, located on the back panel of the router in the hole to the right of the power connector. We go to the router at the new address 192.168.0.1

Login: admin
