You can create a flowerbed in an old stump in just five steps. All you need is a set of tools, some soil and seeds of the flowers you want to plant. Want to know more? Read the article quickly!

After cutting down old trees, stumps remain in the garden. In most cases, site owners either uproot them or try to otherwise “integrate” them into the garden design and use them as pieces of furniture, flower stands, decorative elements, etc. But you can also make something original out of them, for example, arrange a flower bed right in the core of the stump.

First of all, you should find out what condition the potential “flowerbed” is in. If you cut down a tree because it began to rot due to pest infestation, giving it a second life will not be easy. Some bark beetles and other beetles could settle at the base - such a stump will not last long and will become a source of problems for the entire garden. If the tree was healthy and needed to be cut down for another reason, then the stump may well become the basis for a flower bed.

The simplest and most common way is to step back 5-7 cm from the edge of the stump and draw an even circle. These will be the boundaries of your improvised “pot”.

There are several ways to make a hole of the desired size and depth:

  • if you have a gasoline or electric saw, make cuts and then use a chisel to cut out pieces of wood;
  • you can make a fire and burn a small hole;
  • Drill holes in the center of the stump and add Epsom salt or saltpeter and wait a few weeks. During this time, the “chemicals” will make a depression in the trunk, the wood will collapse, and you will be able to form the edges of the funnel;
  • use a hoe, cutting a hole in the center with the sharp end, and then deepening and widening it with the wide end.

The depth of the hole should be about 10-20 cm, depending on the diameter of the stump and the number of plants that you plan to plant there.

To prevent water from stagnating in the stump and the plants rotting, it is necessary to make a drainage system. Take a 1.5cm drill bit and make several holes at 45 degree angles towards the ground. Fill the bottom of the “flowerbed” with drainage made of crushed stone and small stones.

Place fertile soil (or a mixture of 1 part compost and 2 parts soil) on top of the drainage layer and plant flowers. Care for them as you would ordinary plants and admire the unusual conditions in which they grow. Look how beautiful the result was for those who used the stump as a flowerbed:

When forming a natural flower bed, you can experiment and improve standard methods its creation:

  • if you remove the core from the center of the stump using a hand tool, drill holes around the perimeter of the hole and in the center - this will simplify the work of hollowing out the core;
  • if you plan to burn the center of the stump, use kerosene - it will saturate the wood and it will burn better;
  • You can plant almost any flowers in a stump, but marigolds, forget-me-nots, primroses, pansies, daffodils, petunias, purslane, tulips, geraniums and begonias will look best in it;
  • You can further strengthen the stump by installing plastic pots in the recess of the trunk. And then pour soil into containers and plant plants in them.

Don’t rush to uproot the old stump - perhaps it can still become an excellent flowerbed in eco-style. Such an original solution will attract the attention of neighbors and guests of the dacha to your site and will leave them with an unforgettable impression.

Many gardeners are left with stumps after cutting down old trees. And the owners of the plots are faced with the choice of either uprooting and eliminating them, or somehow integrating the stumps into the design and continuing their useful existence.

There are quite a few recipes for the latter. The easiest way is to use a stump as a stand or pendant for flower pots. But let's look at a more interesting option, converting the stump itself into a large pot - a flowerbed, i.e. We will try to turn the stump into a log, fill it with soil, in which we will then plant flowers. As a result, we should get something like this beauty.

1. Find out the condition of the stump.
It makes sense to make a flowerbed only from wood that is not infested with pests. In some places it will even rot, and even have a hollow, this is not scary, and will even make the work easier. If the stump is favored by bark beetles and other beetles, it is better to eliminate it so as not to create a breeding ground for future problems in the garden.

2. Determine the size of the future flower bed and its configuration.

The simplest thing is to measure 5 cm from the edge on the cut and draw a line through these points - this will be the border of our pot.

3. Choose a method for removing the center of the stump.
But before this, the first thing we remember about safety precautions is to put on gloves and safety glasses - no matter how you work, there will be splinters!

So, you can select the center of the stump different ways:

- If gasoline or electric saw is available you can saw through the center and then use a chisel to cut out the squares

- You can light a small fire in the center of the stump and thus burn out its center.

- There is an option with “chemistry”- to do this, drill holes in the center of the stump and add Epsom salt (we buy it in pharmacies) or saltpeter there and wait for several weeks.

After such an “attack” the wood will quickly collapse and all that remains is to clean up the edges of the “funnel”.

- But we will go the old-fashioned mechanical way.

- We take a pointed hoe and, moving in a circle, cut a hole in the center of the stump with its sharp end.

When the hole in the stump is larger, unfold the hoe and chop with the wide side.

Thus, we move towards the outlined line of the “pot” border. You need to deepen the hole in the stump by 10-20 cm, depending on its diameter and the plants that you are going to plant there.
When you are finished with the deepening, consider that the flowerbed is almost ready. Let's move on to the final steps.

4. We make drainage.
To prevent water from stagnating in the stump, care must be taken to drain it.

Using a drill with a diameter of at least 1.5 cm, we make several inclined holes from the center of the flowerbed to the ground surrounding the stump.
Next, you can pour drainage from pebbles at the bottom of the flowerbed, then the water will drain away more easily.

5. Fill the stump with soil and plant the plants.
On top of the drainage we pour nutritious soil more suitable for the flowers you have chosen and plant them. A mixture of 1 part compost and two parts soil has worked well.
That's it, all we have to do is water it and photograph the result of the work.

In conclusion, here are some tips and tricks for making a flower bed from a stump:

- To make it easier for you to remove the wood in the center of the stump, use a drill and a large drill bit. Frequent holes around the perimeter of the hole and in the center will significantly reduce the work time and effort required for chiselling.

- If you burn the center of the stump, you can use kerosene (not gasoline) to saturate the wood, after which it will burn better.

- You can plant almost any plant in a stump, but of course, flowering plants like marigolds, geraniums, and begonias look more beautiful. Pansies, primroses and forget-me-nots look great in such natural pots. Daffodils, tulips and purslane grow well in stumps. Hanging nasturtium and petunia look especially impressive in the stump. You can make any height, both low and high plantings.

- You can extend the service life and make it easier to care for the flower bed stump using plastic pots. The manufacturing technology will not change, except that the recess in the stump needs to be adjusted to the size of the pot or tray.

- And finally, a very simple option with a portable stump - a decoy. To do this, we cut down the stump just above the ground and take the cut to process it in the workshop, where, with the help of a saw and all available tools We make a large hole suitable for the pot, which we insert there. After which we return the stump to its original place – to be cut down. In this way, woodworking and subsequent operation and maintenance of the flower bed can be greatly facilitated.

There are a large number of materials and options for how you can build a beautiful flower bed. One of the most interesting options is a flower bed made from a stump. You can do it easily and simply, exclusively with your own hands. Just follow a few steps and your beautiful flower bed is ready.

Do not be upset that such an unnecessary element as a small wooden stump remains on the site. It can be safely used for different purposes, it will be especially great if there are several of them. But the most popular idea recently is to build a flower bed from a stump. The result is an original and very interesting idea for planting.

Before you start building a flower bed, you need to carefully inspect the stump. After all, if a tree was cut down due to rot, then it will be difficult to work with such a stump.

But if the tree was removed for other purposes and its base is not rotten, then its stump will be an excellent place for making a flower bed.

There are various methods and methods for creating a flower bed. But it happens that you want to make a large flower bed, and for this you need to have a stump of a large area.

But if this is not the case, then you can transform the place differently. You should step back about ten centimeters from the stump and draw an even circle. These will be the improvised borders of the flower pot.

For this you need to work hard. Exist various ways to make a hole:

  1. By using electric saw. You need to make cuts, and then slowly remove pieces of wood with a chisel;
  2. By using fire. This method may not be suitable, since you need to wait a long time and do it carefully, namely, make a fire and burn a hole in the stump;
  3. Make a small hole in the middle of the stump and fill it in saltpeter. This chemical will eat through the wood for several weeks, and after that you can safely form the edges, creating an even flowerbed;
  4. By using hoes You can cut through the wood and create a hole in it.

To ensure that water does not linger in the stump and that the bottom does not rot, it is necessary to properly make the drainage system. You need to take a small drill and make holes at an angle of 45 degrees to the ground. And fill the bottom with small stones or crushed stone.

After the correct hole is ready and the drainage system is prepared, you need to think about the sequence of planting. Flowers should be matched to the style of the stump and also suit the location where it is located.

There are plants that love sunlight, and others that love shade.

It is best to fill the stump with good fertile soil so that it has all the necessary nutrients. To do this, you will need to mix regular soil with compost.

The flowers in such a flowerbed also need to be carefully cared for, constantly watered, and fertilized.

It has recently become popular not to uproot old stumps in the garden, but to turn them into beautiful flower beds. Here they are:

The same can be done with old cut trees, or rather their trunks.

And this is really great, because such “natural” pots look original and easily replace their non-natural friends. Or are they still not replacing it? Let's figure it out.

Which stump is suitable for a flower bed?

In principle, almost anyone. Of course, except for the rotten and rotten ones. It is better to uproot such ones immediately.

The best thing is a wide, well-dried stump, left over from an outdated “tree with experience.” And it will be much easier to make a recess of the required diameter in it. In addition, there are significantly fewer unwanted inhabitants that usually affect stumps that begin to rot.

Of course, an untreated stump or tree with soil poured directly into the recess in the wood will look more natural. But such beauty will not live long. If you still want to have a durable structure, arm yourself with an antiseptic and carefully treat the wood. It's even better to paint it with paint or varnish.

And of course, for durable structures, no soil directly in the recess of the stump. First the pot, and then the soil into it. The potty also provides another huge plus - mobility. You can plant not only summer flowers in a stump or tree for the summer, but also your favorite potted plants that spend the winter on the window in the house.

1. A depression in a dry stump can be made using a hoe. The size of the recess depends on what you plan to do next. For short-lived structures (where soil is poured directly into the recess), they are not so important. If you still insert a pot into the recess (and this right choice) The dimensions of the recess must correspond to the dimensions of the pot. And of course, you should leave some edges around the edges, preferably at least 5 cm.

2. We process the stump as mentioned above.

3. Insert the pot, pour gravel into it for drainage, fill it with nutrient soil and plant the plant. Or we insert an existing pot with a plant into the stump.

4. If you decide to do without a pot, drill inclined holes in the recess of the stump to drain water (drainage), fill in the soil and start planting.

It is best to plant annual plants with not too large root systems in flower beds made from stumps and tree trunks. Perennials may not survive the winter, but the space for the root system is limited by the size of the stump.

In the center of the composition you can plant not very tall flowering plants with erect stems, and at the edges - lower or ampelous ones.

You can also grow some vegetables in such structures: pumpkin or zucchini. It will be very original!

There are other ideas for using a stump on the site:

If there are stumps from cut trees on your site, then this is rather a disadvantage. Uprooting them takes much more time and effort than cutting down a tree. So why bother, if you can make an excellent flower garden out of a deficiency.

This idea is good because it simply cannot result in an unsuccessful or ugly flower bed. Naturalness is the main advantage of such a flower garden. Flowerbeds made from stumps will fit perfectly anywhere on the site. In principle, they don’t need to be decorated with anything; you still can’t do anything better than nature.

You can make a flower garden in different ways, for example this one in the photo above was made using a wire basket. You can make such a mesh yourself, it may not be the ideal shape, it’s still not visible under the flowers, the main thing is that it is the size of the stump. It is better, of course, to find galvanized wire so that the structure does not quickly rust. Place the mesh on the cut and secure it with metal staples.

Buy sphagnum moss in a specialized store; anyone who is involved in floriculture knows very well what this thing is. This moss is excellent for the establishment of young plants and is often used for growing flowers. Fill the basket along the sides, squeezing the moss around the wire frame.

Then fill the interior space with soil and fertilizer.

Wet the contents of the basket. Tamp the soil down gently to remove any air pockets and moisten it. Add more potting mix to level with the rim of the basket.

Plant some flowers. In the middle you can place New Zealand flax, a perennial plant with sword-shaped leaves; its roots are small, but ideal for a flower bed on a stump. You can plant geranium next to it, and along the edges Helichrysum petiolare, although it is a decent water feeder, it has beautiful velvety leaves with soft hair. To fill the sides, carefully dig holes through the moss and press plant roots through the gaps until contact is made with the potting mix.

During the growing season, water constantly, and when the flowers become stronger, you can calmly enjoy the look of the original flowerbed.

Very old stumps can be decorated a little

A stump can be the basis for decorating a large flower bed. Since the base is already ready, you only need to remove part of the core to fill the space with soil.

It’s better to do this with a chisel, or if the stump is large, then with a pickaxe; after all, you need to hollow out a rather voluminous recess, so a pickaxe will be more handy.

The recess must be made with a margin to create a side; of course, a lot depends on the flowers that you are going to plant; some have quite voluminous root systems.

Do not miss such a moment as the hole for the stack; to do this, you need to check one or more holes along the edges of the walls of the bowl from below.

When the container in the hemp is ready, you can plant flowers

There is another option, a more long-term one, to insert a pot into the recess, then the wood will not deteriorate and the flowerbed will last much longer. True, you will have to tinker with the recess; it is quite difficult to fit it under the pot, unless you use a plastic one, but this is not very useful for flowers.

A combination of several stumps looks beautiful

You can decorate stumps very beautifully and create unusual figures from them.

If a stump is not suitable for a flower bed, it doesn’t matter, a small snag can also become a garden decoration if you work on it a little

In this gallery you can evaluate what kind of flower beds on stumps there are. However, no matter what you make, it will still be original, because no two identical stumps exist in nature.

So if you have a stump on your property, don’t rush to uproot it, but if you still need space for household needs, don’t throw it away. If you like it, but there are no stumps on the site, no problem, you can always find a small piece of wood and decorate it beautifully, it will turn out no worse than a stump

The stump looks great in its natural form, but you can give it even more originality by painting it in any color, applying patterns with a brush or using a stencil.

If you treat the stump with water-repellent impregnation, it will also be suitable for the bathroom

A stump for a bathroom will become a very original decor. It can be used as a table, placing bath accessories on it near the bathroom, or candles when you want to have a relaxing evening.

The simplest use for a stump is to make a coffee table out of it. A glass top can be added on top for a more elegant look. The stump can also be placed on legs or wheels, resulting in a very convenient mobile table.

An ordinary tree stump will look great as a bedside table. You can decorate it at your own discretion.

Stumps make excellent stools. You can put small pillows on top of them to make it softer to sit on. Hemp can also be used as decorative chairs, which will be an excellent addition to the interior. The presence of a back will make the stump chair even more comfortable.

If you go to a workshop, you can make an original designer chair or bench.

To create a table or cabinet, you need to find a suitable stump and process it correctly. The bark can be removed with a chisel, or you can leave it on.

The sections of the stump must be sanded using sandpaper and then the stump must be cleaned of dust. Treat with a layer of primer and open the stump with several layers of wood varnish.

Often, stumps from cut down trees remain on a summer cottage. They spoil appearance garden, interfere and do not bring any benefit. Uprooting stumps is a labor-intensive task that not everyone can do. However, if you approach the problem creatively, you can do without radical measures. We are talking about creating a flowerbed stump with your own hands. Thus, you kill two birds with one stone - you decorate the dacha and get rid of the need to do difficult work.

Almost any stump is suitable for creating a flower bed. The only exceptions are very rotten rotten stumps, infested with woodworms and other pests. Pine and spruce are unsuitable for flower gardens, because their wood is very short-lived, and the resin it contains can inhibit plants. The most the best option there will be remains of oak, maple, elm, and fruit trees. The thicker the stump, the wider and more magnificent the flowerbed will be.

Untreated wood is short-lived. In order for the flower garden to serve for more than one year, the wood should be impregnated with special antiseptics, painted or varnished. The lifespan of a stump is also affected by the method of planting. If the earth is poured directly into the cut-out hole, the tree will inevitably begin to collapse. To prevent rotting, use pots that are inserted into the holes.

Having chosen a suitable stump, you can move on to the next, more interesting stage. It is important to follow all recommendations.

The choice of plants depends on the location and size of the hemp flower bed. The larger the size of the cut tree, the larger the flowers can be planted in it. Small stumps are suitable for making compositions only from miniature plants.

It is very easy to select residents for a stump flower bed located in the sun. These can be any light-loving plants with a not very powerful root system. The ideal option is beautifully flowering annuals. If the stump is in the shade, you need to look for shade-tolerant species. It could be periwinkle, lilies of the valley, violets.

It will help you figure out how to make a flowerbed in a stump at your summer cottage step-by-step instruction. This process is quite labor-intensive, but the result will be impressive.

  1. Stump preparation. the main task when creating a flower bed, remove the wood in the center of the stump. This can be done with a hoe or chisel. However, a neat hole can only be achieved using a chainsaw. If you plan to insert a pot into a flowerbed, you cannot do without a saw.
  2. Drainage installation and wood processing. To drain excess water, several inclined holes are drilled in the stump walls. After this, the wood is treated with an antiseptic primer or painted. To prevent the stump from losing its decorative appearance, you can treat only the inner surface, leaving the outer walls in their original form.
  3. Filling the flowerbed with soil. A layer of gravel is poured into the bottom of the excavation, and a nutritious soil mixture is placed on top and lightly compacted. If you plan to use a pot, skip this step.
  4. Making a flower arrangement. Flowers can be sown directly into the soil. But it is much more convenient to use ready-made seedlings. Tall species are placed in the center, and low-growing or ampelous ones are located at the edges of the flower bed.

A stump flowerbed can be decorated in a completely different styles. Everything will depend on your imagination, taste and the availability of the necessary plants.

A flower bed made of hemp with cascading plants looks very beautiful in real life and in the photo. Ampelous petunia, nasturtium, morning glory - these are just a few species with which you can create a flower avalanche.

A wide, low stump can be designed as a rocky garden. Saxifraga, succulents, crassula, as well as decor made from pebbles and pebbles will come to the rescue.

An old stump located near the playground will make an unusual fairy-tale house. To do this, they put together a roof from planks on a stump, decorate a door and windows. Decorate the composition with low-growing plants.

As you can see, an unconventional approach to things works wonders. Even such useless things as pieces of wood and stumps in skillful hands turn into a true decoration of the garden.

A dacha is a space for creativity, creation and contemplation, where a person can relax and work for his own pleasure.

This is also a wonderful opportunity to show your imagination, and we will help you with inspiration. Today we will tell you how to make beautiful crafts from stumps for the garden, what materials and techniques to use.

This is a great opportunity to decorate the landscape without spending very little money, and in some cases, all the costs will consist only of the time and effort spent.

As a result, you will receive a wonderful decoration, original and bringing joy.

Human fantasy is truly endless! Sometimes you surprise yourself - where do ideas come from? Moreover, even the most ancient thing can be used if desired. So it is with an old stump or snag, which not very enterprising people will most likely throw out or burn. But don’t rush, because you can give it a second life. You ask how? And we will answer - very simply!

An old stump can become furniture, which is so necessary in the garden, or part of it, for example, a chair for children and adults, which depends on the size of the stump. If it is tall, then you can use a chainsaw to cut out a part so that you get a back, and if the stump is also very large in girth, then you can make armrests and you will have a large chair.

Small, low stumps are perfect for the playground. The upper cut needs to be cleaned and sanded; a colored design can be applied on top with paints.

The chair immediately suggests making a table, where it is so pleasant to drink a cup of tea under a spreading apple tree in the shade. Our stump can become both a support for the tabletop and the table itself, if the size allows. In the first case, you must first level the surface of the stump and treat it with special impregnations that will prevent it from rotting.

Then on the sides, parallel to each other, we nail two planks, and on them we nail two more perpendicularly. After that, we knock the boards into a tabletop of any shape you like, and fasten it with nails to the planks below. This is one of many options. To ensure that the product serves you for a long time, coat it with varnish.

You can also make other DIY tree stump crafts that can be used as garden sculptures. For example, a bright fly agaric will become an accent on a green lawn or under a spreading bush.

The stump will be the foot of the mushroom, and make the cap from an old bowl, which must be covered with red spray paint, and when it dries, paint white spots. You can also paint the leg and even draw a face on it and thereby revive the fly agaric. Thus, you can make not only fly agaric, but also other mushrooms.

With a little imagination, you will have a one-of-a-kind stump sculpture.

Also, a stump can become a pedestal for any sculpture, a plant in a tub, and even a barrel of water for watering the garden.

And what beautiful containers for plants can be made from stumps! To get a flower pot, you just need to remove part of the core, add drainage (expanded clay) and fertile soil and plant the plants. The young will look very beautiful, for which about 4 cm of soil is enough.

And if the stump is large, then it can be used as a flowerpot and a pot of flowers can be inserted into it. Or cut out the middle to a depth of 25-30 cm and arrange a real mini-flower bed.

To do this, again make a drainage layer of 5-10 cm and pour about 20 cm of fertile soil. And then you plant various plants.

Climbing species (ornamental strawberries, petunia, nasturtium, etc.) will look beautiful in combination with low-growing annuals and annuals. Such a decorative element will be an excellent addition to larger landscape compositions.

Crafts made from stumps and driftwood, making up a single composition, look very unusual. After all, everyone at their dacha probably has a broken thick branch, a small fallen tree, etc. They can also be adapted for a summer residence, for example, as a stand of an unusual curved shape, on which you can attach a garden washbasin or hang a small flowerpot from the same hemp.

And if you come across a large branched branch with a base thickness of 6-10 cm, then you are very lucky. From such a specimen you can build a beautiful composition. First, the branch must be cleaned and treated with a protective compound. Then firmly fix it in the ground, for example, concrete it or dig it to a sufficient depth.

And then we turn on our imagination! On one branch you can hang a bird feeder, on another - a stylized clock, a decorative nest or flower pots. Also, such a branch can become a country drying rack for cups, jars and other utensils.

If you have an alpine hill, then a piece of driftwood covered with moss and elongated in the horizontal direction will be an excellent addition to the composition. It can be planted with ground cover ornamental plants, which over time will partially cover the snag.

Or maybe you come across a piece of driftwood with various natural depressions. Then you can pour a little soil into them and plant sedums, young plants and other plants. This thing looks very impressive and beautiful.

The V-shaped twig can be used as a coat hook. This is done like this: fasten one end of a strong rope to a branch, and the other to the wall.

You can even assemble a bench from driftwood. It will have an unusual and very original look. The main thing is to choose strong branches that can certainly support the weight of a person.

You can also cut a thick branch into cylinders of different heights, cut a shallow hole in them and use them as candlesticks. Just be very careful, wood is flammable.

It is worth remembering that wood is a fairly fragile material, which, when exposed to moisture, collapses and rots. And a stump is an old tree that is doubly subject to self-destruction. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out treatment with special chemicals and varnishes to prevent these destructive processes, especially if you want to make crafts from stumps and snags for more than one season. However, if you want to get a mossy effect, then there is no need for such events.

Be inspired, fantasize and boldly bring your ideas to life!

Good afternoon dear friends!

You've probably already seen flower beds made from a stump, at least in a photo, or maybe in reality? I think this is a great idea to decorate a stump in the garden. The resulting flower bed is very original and does not take up much space.

And stumps from old trees, cut down for some reason or simply dried out, can probably be found in every dacha or garden.

I’ll tell you now how to make a flowerbed from a stump.

On my plot near the house there grew a huge spreading apricot tree, or rather, kulgi, as they call it here.

(Kulga is a wild apricot, its fruits are only slightly smaller in size than cultivated ones, but they are even sweeter than the latter.)

After moving to my new place of residence, at first I was still surprised at how many apricots grow here. You go outside and apricots are literally falling from the sky on your head! They fall and fall! Just some kind of paradise!

Previously, I only saw apricots at the market and very rarely ate them.

One year we had so many apricots in the Stavropol region that I had to throw them out in buckets. It was such a shame! But I just didn’t have time to process it, and I made a lot of jam, compotes, juices, and dried it. But still, many apricots quickly spoiled.

This year we have a good year for apricots again, and this doesn’t happen often. So I remembered this story, a little sadly, because my favorite tree died a long time ago, probably dried up from old age and spontaneously broke, leaving behind a large stump.

I made a mini-flower bed in this stump for a couple of years, planted petunia and purslane in it. It was very beautiful. But now even this stump has rotted.

But, let’s return to the essence of our topic, how to decorate a stump in the garden and make a flowerbed from a stump with your own hands.

In general, of course, a flowerbed is a strong word. A mini-flower bed can only be made from a large, wide stump. And medium-sized stumps are more likely to make a kind of natural flowerpot.

So, if there are stumps in your garden and you are in no hurry to uproot them, you can start decorating them.

Depending on the size: diameter and height, type of stump, it can be turned into a fungus, for example, by putting on a cap from an old bowl or bucket.

There are such talents who carve various fabulous figures from stumps and tree trunks. I even have examples here.

You can fill the stump with small stands on which to place flowers in flowerpots or simply place them on top of the stump.

The easiest option is to hide the stump from view: cover it with earth, make small slopes, surround it with stones, and plant different plants. It will be something like a fashionable slide.

Or you can take an old tire, throw it over a stump, and cover it with something on top. Makes a good chair. You can cover the tire with soil and plant flowers on top - that’s a good flowerbed.

Depending on the location of the stump and your desires, you can decorate and adapt the old stump in different ways, including making a small flower garden inside the stump.

By the way, even if there are no old stumps in your garden, you can get them from the forest. Some people do just that, because a flower bed made from a stump is very interesting modern solution in dacha design.

It’s better if the stump is old, it’s easier to work with it.

It is advisable not to touch the stump of a freshly cut tree for a while until it dries well.

A flowerbed from a stump can be made in two ways: insert a flowerpot with flowers inside or pour soil into a hole in the stump and plant flowers.

The whole process of creating a flower bed from a stump is clearly visible in the photo.

But there are some nuances that I will talk about in more detail.

1. It is often enough to simply select rot from a very old stump, as was the case in my case.

If the stump is from a freshly cut tree, then you can’t do without men’s hands and plumbing tools.

In the case of making a flower bed from small pieces of logs, you must first trim Saw the bottom edge to get a level base.

Then measure the desired height and trim the top.

2. In the stump it is necessary make a depression using a hoe, ax or chainsaw.

First you should draw the contours, stepping back from the edge 5 centimeters or more, it doesn’t matter.

Using a chainsaw, they begin to cut through the wood, then remove chips and break large areas with a hammer.

They work with the saw again. And so on until you get a hole of the required depth. Usually it is from 10 to 20 cm, depending on what we plant.

Using the same chainsaw, you can drill a hole at the bottom of the stump for drainage.

If you plan to insert a flowerpot with flowers into the hole, then they must match each other in size.

3. Then follows treat the inner walls stump with an antiseptic or paint it so that the stump lasts longer, does not rot quickly, and the flower bed from the stump pleases us with its beauty.

I missed this stage at one time, and therefore lost the original flowerbed. Although, of course, it still depends on the age of the tree and its condition.

4.Making drainage. If the plants are planted directly into the stump, it is necessary to provide drainage so that moisture does not stagnate in the stump.

Expanded clay, gravel are suitable for this purpose, you can take a piece of polystyrene foam from the packaging of some household appliances, or even simpler, a tray made of polystyrene foam - the same one in which various products are now packaged.

5.Pour the soil. It’s better to mix two parts of soil and part of compost, or take purchased soil, mix it with soil from the garden and add sand, I usually do this.

6.Planting plants.

What flowers can be planted in a flower bed made from a stump? Yes, in principle, any flowers with a small root system are suitable: petunia, begonia, geranium, purslane, flax, oxalis, marigolds, pansies, primroses, as well as daffodils and tulips.

If the flowerbed is large, then it is better to plant upright plants in the middle, and hanging plants along the edges.

All that remains is to water the flowers and admire the flower bed made from a stump, made with your own hands.

Here in this video are more examples of photos of beautiful unusual flower beds made from a stump.

Have a good mood and sunny days!

We have a lot more interesting things:

Hello, dear readers! If you are the happy owner of private land, then you probably strive to somehow improve your personal plot - plant incredibly beautiful flowers, fruit trees, bushes, etc. But what if the once beautiful tree did not survive the next season and simply dried up?! Of course, it needs to be cut down or even uprooted. And if, after removing the missing tree along with its root system, there is not even a hint left on the site about the presence of a tree here, then after cutting down there will be an unflattering stump that will spoil the entire perception of the garden plot with its appearance. But you shouldn’t despair, such a stump can serve as an excellent decoration for the garden, you just need to decorate it correctly, and beautiful flowers will help in this matter. So, today the site “Comfort in the House” presents to your attention wonderful flower beds made of stumps, below you can study suitable photographs, and also learn about the secrets of creating such flower beds.

To begin with, it is worth mentioning that to create such an impromptu flowerbed, you should use an uninfected stump, inspect it, it must have a clear structure, without fungal formations, without settlements of ants or bark beetles.

So, the stump has been inspected, you can proceed directly to recreating the flower bed. We arm ourselves with a small hatchet and cut a hole in the center of the stump, adjusting the depth yourself. For example, if a flower pot with a plant is to be installed in a stump, then the depth of the hole should correspond to the height of the pot; if the plants are planted directly into the stump, then, in principle, there is no need to “gut” the stump particularly deeply. In addition to the hatchet, you can use a pickaxe, as well as a chisel.

When the desired recess has been recreated, it is necessary to treat the stump with an antiseptic and also coat it with varnish on all sides. Now we pour gravel stones into the hole for drainage, soil enriched with minerals, and plant the plant.

It is better to plant plants with a shallow root system in such a flowerbed; thus, the following are suitable: marigolds, geraniums, petunia, pansies, cornflowers, periwinkles, loosestrife, saxifrage, thyme, bells, hostas, asters, spirea, irises, heathers, heucheras. As well as any flowers suitable for recreating miniature gardens, you can read about this here.

Sometimes one planted plant is not enough to fully satisfy the perception of the composition, so all kinds of ceramic figurines are also used, preferably not very large in size, as well as garden lanterns powered by solar powered. In addition, a flower bed made from a stump can also be supplemented with decorative soil - colored pebbles or whole tiny compositions, popularly called tiny gardens. The essence of which comes down to recreating in a container, simulating a full-fledged garden with dwarf trees, flowers, miniature benches, houses and other elements.

Well, for an even greater effect, you can also decorate the surrounding area around the stump by planting climbing plants, recreating the effect of a dry spring (a flowerpot lying on its side with flowers seemingly spilling out of it), creating a small pond, installing a fountain or recreating a rock garden. In this matter, it is very important to show all your creative potential, and then the stump, and the entire area around it, will be perceived as nothing less than 5+.

Ideally, the best place for a composition based on a stump is considered to be the most visible area, so it will be great if the stump is located next to a gazebo, playground, garden swing, barbecue, garden furniture, or swimming pool. But in no case should an improvised flowerpot made from a stump interfere with movement around the site; if you need to go around it every now and then, someone has tripped over it more than once, then it clearly does not belong here, and accordingly, efforts must be made to irrevocably remove it. remove along with the root system. Let it be better if the stump is part of a large, full-fledged flowerbed, and will be located either next to it, or even on it, somewhere on the side or in the center. By the way, so that the stump does not get out of the composition, the designers recommend planting around it the same plants that you planted in it.

Below you can study a selection of photos demonstrating a wide variety of flower beds recreated in old stumps.

Today we told you how to decorate a stump in the garden, take note of the ideas presented in this review, and go to the garden to transform an old stump. Agree, flower beds made from stumps look very impressive, but all you need to do is remove the core of the stump and plant beautiful plants in it, and now we see how, right before our eyes, the once dull stump “comes to life” and begins to play with completely new colors.

Often, old stumps and logs remain in suburban areas, taking up space without bringing absolutely any benefit. Many summer residents use the remains of former mighty trees as seats, but this, firstly, is not convenient, and secondly, it does not look as beautiful as it could. And if the logs can still be disposed of, then uprooting old stumps left from large trees is quite difficult, and sometimes even impossible.

But there is an interesting way that will help you solve this problem forever. By making original flower beds from stumps and logs, you will not only get rid of unnecessary landscape design elements, but also decorate your site in an original way. This is exactly the idea that “Dream House” shares with its readers today. You will learn how to make original flower beds from old stumps and logs, and how to harmoniously combine them with other landscape elements.

Original flower beds made of stumps and logs

An old stump is essentially a ready-made basis for creating a flower bed. You just need to free its core and fill the space with earth or install a pot with soil of a suitable size. However, in order for a flower bed made from a stump to serve you for a long time and faithfully, you should take into account some nuances:

  • firstly, only a healthy stump is suitable for creating a flower garden. If the wood is affected by a dangerous disease, for example, thyrostromosis, it is better to remove it along with the root system, replacing the soil, otherwise the disease may spread to other plants;
  • secondly, due to precipitation, insect pests and other external factors, the wood will dry out over time, and the stump-flower bed will lose its decorative properties. To increase the service life of the original flower bed, the stump cuts need to be well sanded and treated with an antiseptic. Oil paint can also be used as an antiseptic, which, moreover, will change the appearance of the stump;
  • thirdly, an old stump, the core of which has already dried out sufficiently, is most suitable for creating a flower bed. If you want to create a flowerbed from a freshly cut tree, you will have to wait a little, because... It will be very difficult to remove the core from it.

To make a flower bed from a stump, you need to free its core as much as is necessary for the root system of the plants being planted. The easiest way is to pre-plant the plants in a pot or suitable container, and then simply install it inside the stump.

If you want to grow plants directly in the stump, first add drainage to the bottom of its recess, which will protect the plant roots from rotting.

Beautiful flower bed from an old stump

As a rule, the depression created in the stump is not large in size, so choose plants with a compact root system to decorate it. For example, any bulbous flowers, geranium, sorrel, pansies, petunias, etc. are perfect for this purpose. Climbing plants also look very beautiful in a flowerbed made from an old stump; they will decorate it with a lush crown during the flowering period.

Original do-it-yourself flower beds made from stumps

If there is no old stump on your site, but you are already excited about the idea of making an original flower bed with your own hands, use for this purpose an old log, which you will probably find close to your property. The advantage of creating such a flower bed is that the log can be easily placed in any convenient corner of the garden or plot; it can be moved to wherever you want, and the stump will only have to be uprooted.

The process of creating a flower bed from logs is also quite simple. You just need to clean the core of the log using an electric saw or other tool, and then clean all the cuts well. Since a flowerbed in a log is larger than a flowerbed in a stump, here you can grow several types of plants at once, combining perennials and annuals. To protect the inhabitants of the flowerbed from decay and disease, cover the resulting space with polyethylene and lay a layer of expanded clay on it.

When making a flower bed from a log with your own hands, play with its natural shape. For example, a neat rectangular recess can be cut out of whole wood, thanks to which the flowerbed will take the shape of an elongated flowerpot and become a laconic architectural product. If the log is so old that its core has completely dried out, cover it with soil and plant absolutely all open holes with flowers, which will make your flowerbed a harmonious and bright object of landscape design.

How to make a flower bed in a log

When growing flowers in a log, consider how they will look not only during the period of active flowering, but also in the off-season. Ideally, plants should be selected so that they cover the widest flowering period - from early spring to late autumn. If you want a flowerbed in a log to please you exclusively in the warm season, select a composition of plants depending on their color combinations, leaf shapes, etc.

Unusual flower beds made of stumps and logs look very beautiful, catchy and original, but you want each element of the site to correspond to the overall style of landscape design. If you are making a flower bed from a stump or log in the wild part of the garden, then you can leave the material in its original form, because various cracks, chips and abrasions will blend harmoniously with the surrounding nature. If you want such an original flowerbed to decorate the central part of the plot or a recreation area in the garden, the bark of the log and stump can be completely cleaned, and then the wood can be sanded to a flat and smooth surface.

This object looks beautiful in combination with other architectural forms of the landscape and wooden garden furniture. For example, a flower bed made of stumps or logs can be placed near a wooden gazebo, dining table, rotunda, play area, etc. To complement the originality of the flowerbed, decorate the area on which it is located with wooden sculptures, figurines and other garden attributes.

If desired, you can plant flowers around the flowerbed that are similar to those growing in it, so that your decoration will harmoniously fit into any landscape style.

In addition to the fact that flower beds made of stumps and logs are an original and stylish decoration for a site, they also save useful garden space. Despite the fact that such a flower garden does not take up much space, it allows you to grow several types of plants, making the garden design brighter and more interesting.

Almost every summer cottage has old trees that have pleased their owner with flowers and fruits for many years. But the time has come when you need to get rid of the tree. After cutting, a stump remains, which can be put to use and used as an element of decoration of the site. It will be easy for a person with imagination to find a use for it. Well, for those who are puzzling over an idea, the article will help you choose a more suitable option decor.

So, options for decoding the stump:

Naturally, an old stump will not bloom or sprout. But you can create a flowering stump with your own hands by planting your favorite annual flowers on it. During flowering, the plants will give the stump a magnificent, noble appearance. And the very idea of decorating a stump does not require large expenses.

How to make a “blooming” stump?

First you need to level its surface. Next, you need to make a small depression in the stump. It is important to remember that the depth must be such that the plant roots can develop. A regular hammer and chisel can be an assistant in this matter. You can also try simply burning the core of the stump.

For burning, a hole is drilled on the stump and filled with kerosene. After which you need to close the hole with a stopper. After 5 hours, you should add kerosene again and close the hole with a stopper. Then the stump needs to be left in this state for some time: from 7 to 14 days, depending on the diameter of the stump. Afterwards, you need to open the plug and set fire to the middle of the stump. You need to carefully monitor how the core burns so as not to burn the entire stump.

When the procedure is completed, the resulting cavity is treated with special antiseptic substances. You need to drill a hole at the bottom of the stump so that water will not stagnate. Next, the stump is filled with soil, which must be mixed with fertilizer. And the final stage will be planting the selected plants. During flowering, the stump takes on a beautiful appearance that will delight its owner.

In order to make some furniture from a stump on the site, you will need minimum set instruments, as well as imagination. And then from an old unnecessary stump you will get a wonderful decorative element in the form of furniture.

What can be made from it?

- Stump-chair. To make an attractive chair from a stump, you need a fairly thick stump, since a stump with a small diameter will not make a chair. If the tree intended for cutting has a fairly thick trunk, then, first of all, it is necessary to remove all existing branches. After the branches are removed, you need to mark the tree trunk.

For convenience, the seat of the future chair is best placed at a height of 39 to 59 centimeters from the ground. Once the height has been determined, you need to mark it with chalk. Next, you should add the same length to the height that will be intended for the back of future furniture. The resulting height is also marked with chalk. It is the top mark that is the point of cutting the tree. Ideally, the cut will be made using a chainsaw. After the necessary part of the trunk remains, you should begin creating the back of the chair. To do this, you need to make a cut at the first mark, which suggests a place under the seat. The cut is made to a depth of two-thirds of the trunk. It is important to remember that the cut is made exactly from the side where the future chair will be turned. Next, you need to cut the stump vertically to the first cut. The part of the stump that is cut out is simply thrown away.

The chair is almost ready, all that remains is to decorate it. In order for the stump chair to be smooth, without burrs, it must be carefully processed with a grinding machine. And then you can either paint the resulting furniture or decorate it at your own discretion.

- Small table, whose leg will be a stump. To create a table, you need to get rid of tree bark. And to shape the table you need a chisel and a chisel. The work of creating this piece of natural interior is quite delicate, requiring accuracy and attentiveness.

On the side of the stump there are 2 wooden strips, onto which 4 holders are attached. The tabletop is made separately from boards. Next, you can give the future tabletop any shape you like. After which it should be nailed in the center of the stump or screwed with self-tapping screws. The resulting table can be varnished, so it will last much longer.

An old tree stump can be turned into a character. For example, you can make either a fly agaric or a brownie out of it. The main thing is to show your imagination. To create a fly agaric from hemp, you only need a basin or an unnecessary bowl and paints. The bowl can be painted with spray paints. You can draw eyes on the hemp, attach a nose, or draw insects. When the paint on the bowl or basin is dry, you should put it on the stump. The result will be a cute composition that will interest any child, and will give the area a more beautiful look.

It’s not that difficult to come up with a new life for an old stump that sticks out of the ground on your property and constantly irritates you. The main thing is a little imagination and the boring stump will become your favorite sculpture on the site.

There comes a time when a tree that has been bearing fruit for many years or simply delighting you with its spreading crown has to be cut down. As a result, an unattractive stump forms in its place, with which something needs to be done. You can, of course, uproot it, but often such work requires serious physical effort. After all, the root system of an old tree remains branched and very strong. If you also don’t want to dig a pit to extract the root, all that remains is to figure out how to decorate the stump in the garden with your own hands.

Of course, the old stump will not bloom on its own, but this does not mean that flowers cannot grow on it. This will actually happen if you plant low annual flowers, herbaceous or even ornamental plants on the stump. Their presence will greatly ennoble and enliven the cut of the tree.

All these modest flowers look very impressive in a single bouquet, which, like a vase, is held by the simplest stump

To bring this idea to life, minimal costs are required. We level the surface of the stump, after which we make indentations in the stump. They should be such that the root system of your chosen plant can develop unhindered. A reference point could be, for example, a flower pot.

You can simply make one depression in the stump by removing the core from it. This is not difficult to do when we are dealing with rotten stump. As for the tools, we will need a saw or a chisel with a hammer. If the stump appeared on your site relatively recently, it is better to use the method of burning the core.

Surely such a stump will become a real decoration of your garden at the very beginning of the last spring month and on the eve of summer

In the center of the stump, you need to drill a hole deep enough so that kerosene can be poured into it. The side surface should not be less than 7 cm, so that after removing the core our structure remains intact. Pour kerosene and plug the hole in the hemp with a stopper.

After about half a day, add kerosene and tightly plug the hole again. Leave the stump alone for one to two weeks. Then remove the plug and set fire to the core of the stump. When it burns out, the resulting flowerpot should be treated with an antiseptic so that the flowerbed lasts longer.

Drill holes inside the recess to prevent water from stagnating. Now we place garden soil mixed with nutrients inside, after which we plant seedlings or bulbs. When a lush head of flowers forms on the stump, it will not look old and unsightly at all.

If you are not sure about the strength of the walls of your new stump flowerpot and are afraid that they may begin to crumble, they can be reinforced with mesh

You can see a variety of options for what you can make with your own hands from a stump in your dacha in this video:

To make something out of an old stump interesting thing, for example, a piece of furniture, is needed good tool and some skills for similar work. But tools today are not a problem. And as for skills, we can say this: all great masters were once apprentices. So let's at least try. What are you ultimately risking? Only an old stump.

Let's say you just marked a tree to cut down. It would be nice if it had a thick trunk. We remove branches, moving from the thin upper ones to the stronger lower ones. Now that the trunk is in front of you, you need to mark it.

If we want to make a chair, it is more convenient to place the seat at a height of 40-60 cm from the ground. Let's say it will be 50 cm. We put a chalk mark at this height. But the chair still has a back. We add another 50 cm to it. At a height of 100 cm, we also put a mark with chalk. The cut will follow this mark, which is best done with a chainsaw.

It is difficult to say to what extent the chair depicted in this photo is of natural origin, but it is one that well illustrates the result of the work described in this section

Now we will form the back of the chair. To do this we need to make a horizontal cut at the seat level. That is, where our first chalk mark is located. We make a cut to a depth of 2/3 of the trunk. We saw through from the side in which the chair will later be turned.

To form the back, we will make a vertical cut from the top until we reach the previous, horizontal one. We remove the piece of trunk cut out in this way.

The base has been created, you can begin decorative finishing. For this work we will need different devices from a grinding machine to a chisel. It all depends on how exactly you decide to decorate the resulting chair. In any case, this will no longer be a stump sticking out in plain sight, but a comfortable chair, sitting on the seat of which you can have a good rest.

When you made the chair, you preferred not to part with the tree bark. Now we have to make a garden table, the leg of which will be the stump itself. And this time it’s better to get rid of the bark. For this we can use a chisel or chisel. We will work as carefully as possible: we don’t want to damage the wood at all.

This photo clearly shows how exactly you need to nail the holders to which the tabletop will be attached in the future.

We place two perpendicular wooden planks on the side of the stump. We attach four holders perpendicularly fastened to each other on them in pairs. We make the tabletop from boards, and fasten them together with planks.

The tabletop can be made round. To do this, it is enough to draw a circle, using for this purpose an improvised compass from a pencil, rope and nail. We drive a nail into the center of the tabletop, to which is tied a rope with a pencil at the end. We outline a circle and delete everything that goes beyond its boundaries.

A tabletop attached to a leg that was once a stump requires mandatory treatment with special protective compounds, and it is better to cover such a table for the winter

We nail the finished tabletop to the holders with nails or screw it with self-tapping screws. The finished product must be impregnated with a protective solution, which will prolong its life.

Implementing the following idea is not at all difficult. And now the dry frame of your tree is being sawed by little men who look like green grasshoppers. It’s easy to make these babies yourself, using wire, pieces of tin or plastic for this purpose. Similar fairy-tale characters can also be purchased in a store selling souvenirs and toys.

The figures are made very cleverly, and the whole composition leaves an amazingly positive impression: the little men must be secured securely so that they are not damaged by bad weather

These funny figures can be screwed to the trunk using self-tapping screws, wire or clamps. Such a comic composition will decorate your garden and attract the attention of your friends and neighbors.

If you think that making a fly agaric from a stump is easy, then you are absolutely right. All you need for this is an old enamel or iron bowl and an aerosol. The bowl needs to be cleaned and painted with red spray paint. After it dries, we draw white circles on the red background, exactly like the spots on the fly agaric cap.

Next to the handsome fly agaric, you can place numerous other objects that help revive the composition and make it complete

The stump also needs to be painted white. It would be nice to draw a cheerful grinning face on it. But here it’s up to your imagination to tell you. All that remains is to put a smart hat on your leg and boldly declare that the fly agaric is ready! By the way, you don’t have to make a fly agaric. It could also be a white mushroom. The fly agaric just looks more elegant.

To complete the picture, we suggest that you place pebbles, for example green, at the foot of your mushroom. They, like a picture frame, will create an edge to your work. However, you can do without them.

Using stone painting you can also create an original decorative element. Read about this: https://diz-cafe.com/dekor/rospis-na-kamnyax-svoimi-rukami.html

These porcini mushrooms are also made from stumps, only in a completely different way: both the stem and the cap of the mushroom are cut from the wood of the stump itself and painted in the appropriate colors

If a person is not deprived of imagination, then even from a dry stump he is able to make a whole work of art - a fairy-tale castle or mansion inhabited by the most amazing fairy-tale characters. Such a craft can become a source of pride for the owner of the site if you work on it with all your heart.

A nice house made in Japanese style, complemented by a small hut, most likely intended for holding a traditional tea ceremony

The stump itself can serve as the main part of the castle, onto which all additional decor will be attached. In order not to miss anything, we suggest making a sketch of the future structure and subsequently trying to follow it.

Decorating parts can be cut from a piece of fiberboard or plywood. They should be attached to the stump using self-tapping screws. All components must be impregnated to protect them from rotting. In addition, they can be painted in the desired color.

The material on creating crafts from plywood for garden decoration may also be useful: https://diz-cafe.com/dekor/podelki-iz-fanery.html

Such a cute house with figures will really appeal to children, who will undoubtedly immediately adapt it for their fun games

Sometimes in the trunk of a dry tree, very low from the surface of the earth, there are hollows and growths. All these details, despite their natural origin, are easily used in the composition. For example, small toy ladders with funny gnomes on them can hang from a hollow. And on the growth you can place a toy piano with a squirrel-pianist.

Don't forget to pay attention to the roof of the structure. An old leaky bucket will do just fine for her. By the way, artificial or live plants coming out of a hole in the roof of such a structure will look very attractive.

This video is dedicated to a variety of characters made from tree stumps:

We have already told you how you can decorate a stump with flowers that are grown in it, but there is another option for this decoration. If there are several branches left on the stump, you can hang the same flowers on them, but grown in pots. They can look very impressive.

Even if there are no branches, a flower pot can be placed on or around the stump itself, creating a special aura of flowering and ongoing life. Stumps look great as a decorative stand for flower pots with plants, if they are thoroughly sanded, allowing the wood to show its texture.

Despite the simplicity of this composition, it looks very impressive and distinctly rustic: it is perfect for country style

But we should not forget that a tree located in an open area needs protection - impregnations that will resist rotting.

Anyone can create garden figurines from stumps, but real artists end up with wonderful works of art that amaze with their realism. If you are driven by the desire to simply decorate your area, then you can create a simple image that does not require special skills.

Of course, this magnificent deer, vocalizing in spring forest, skillfully carved from an ordinary stump by a high-level professional

Making a simple figurine from a stump is not at all difficult. Those who made snowmen in childhood can apply their accumulated experience in this case. The role of hands will be played by twigs, instead of the nose and mouth we will attach twigs, Eyes can be made from brown bottoms from plastic bottles. The role of the pupil will be played by the cork from the same bottles.

All this is attached to the stump with self-tapping screws. On the horizontal surface of the cut, you can simply lay out pine cones, which will imitate hair. This garden guard, which we whipped up, is ready.

But any schoolchild can make such a funny guard for a dacha, and this is precisely why such a garden sculpture is valued

If it happened that you had to cut down a whole row of country trees, do not be sad. This situation also has its positive side. But you now have a large number of stumps located close to each other. And this is not bad at all. Make them into a fairyland for your children, putting into practice all the information that you have already received in this article.

It will be just a wonderful place to play. First you have to clear each stump of bark. For this you will need a chisel and a hammer. The chisel must be inserted between the bark and the tree trunk, then gently tap it with a hammer. The bark will move away from the trunk and soon the stump will completely lose it. Now it can be thoroughly sanded using medium-grit sandpaper for this purpose.

Such an owl could easily become the companion of Baba Yaga herself and settle in her hut, flying out from time to time to hunt

Be sure to remove wood dust formed during work with a damp cloth. The wood prepared in this way should be treated with an antiseptic, which will protect it from rotting.

Now you can start decorating the stump. Let's choose a large stump to turn it into Baba Yaga's real house. Let's take chalk and outline the location of the future windows and doors of the grandmother's hut. Recesses in wood for doors and windows can be made using a chisel and hammer.

We will need pieces of boards from which we will make doors and window shutters. These parts of the future structure can be painted right now, while they are not yet nailed into place. Doors and shutters should be nailed to the places marked on the stump using nails whose heads have been bitten off. When finishing decorating the hut, you can collect branches and driftwood of unusual shapes from the area to stick them around Baba Yaga’s house. Let them portray dense years.

On smaller stumps you can depict a variety of heroes folk tales or funny cartoon characters. You can decorate these stumps and draw your intended characters on them using paints for outdoor work. The images outside will wonderfully complement the flowers planted directly inside the stumps. How to do this was described in detail at the beginning of the article. You can limit yourself to pots with plants.

Another wonderful composition, made by a professional artist and sculptor, creates a great mood inherent in a small fairy-tale corner of your garden

We'll turn a couple more stumps into children's chairs. To do this, we won’t even cut out the massive back. If you have old chairs, use their backs for this job. They should be carefully freed from varnish, and then, using ordinary nails, nailed to the stump seats. All that remains is to paint the finished chairs in bright colors that children will definitely like.

Simply turn the small remaining stumps into a flock of fly agarics, using bowls or basins of the appropriate size as their caps. Now you know exactly how such fly agarics can be made. That's it, the improvisation on the theme of the fairy tale is ready.

Another idea on how to refine a stump may also interest you. For this purpose, you need a hefty stump with a powerful root system, which is hidden in a shady place. If you have one on your site, you can consider yourself lucky.

A large stump covered in moss looks mysterious, as if it came straight into your garden from Twilight or some other saga

Buy a variety of moss suitable for your climate at the store. You need to plant moss on a stump. To get it to work, you will have to spray it with water periodically. Now it is important that the moss grows. When this happens, you will be able to fully appreciate the enormity of the resulting creation.

Good day, dear readers. One of the most useful and complex functions that Photoshop performs is cutting out details. Thanks to her, the most amazing photographs are created.

Photoshop has a huge number of tools and individual methods that allow you to create such unique collages. If you want to achieve a cool effect that is indistinguishable from reality, then you need to know everything. Then you will get good results quickly. This is a rather complex topic, but believe me, it will come in handy more than once in life.

Now I will tell you about a variety of tools that will tell you how to cut an image along a contour in Photoshop, and which one to use in an individual case is up to you. Let's not beat around the bush for too long. Try all of them and figure out for yourself what you like best. Let's get started.

An important point, without which a miracle will not happen

Remember one very important point. If you need to cut out an object from a picture, the first step is almost always to create a duplicate layer. It is very important. Remember this and make it automatic. Opened it and made a duplicate layer. Even if it’s not useful, it’s okay. Anything is better than doing a ton of work and then seeing that nothing works because it wasn't duplicated. This has happened to me a hundred times.

Made a duplicate layer.

This is a very common mistake. You try, you work, but it’s all in vain. This happens often, even with professionals. It slipped my mind and everything had to be done again.

If you have the opportunity from which you will subsequently cut something out, try to select a picture with a plain background - white, green, red. It doesn’t matter, you need contrast, then it’s easier to work.

If you are interested in lessons and want to learn how to use Photoshop at a professional level, I recommend you course by Zinaida Lukyanova — « Photoshop from A to Z ».

Online lessons will allow you to quickly master technical skills and move on to practice, gain valuable and personal experience, in the shortest period of time. You will be able to quickly move from being a beginner to a specialist, and then, thanks to everything you can achieve with your mind, you are not far from becoming a professional!

Now let's get acquainted with the tools. Each of them can be useful in one case or another. I recommend that you find out all the possibilities, and then choose based on the situation what is more effective and when. Over time you will learn.

Magic wand

I use a magic wand when I need to get rid of one color. In this case, everything will be quick and almost painless.

So, open the photo and create a duplicate layer.

Photoshop has 5 selection tools (magnetic, straight and simple lasso, quick selection and magic wand). They are located on two buttons. Hold down the left mouse button for a few seconds longer than usual and an additional menu will open.

Let's choose. Tolerance – 30.

Click where you want to remove the color.

Not everything stood out. Hold Shift and continue clicking as selections are added to the existing ones. Ready.

Press the Del button on your keyboard and remove the visibility of the bottom layer (background).

This is the result.

Now you can press Ctrl + A at the same time, then Ctrl + C and paste the picture into another photo. I don’t really like the result, I continue to click on the blue sea, which is visible through the fence bars, and press delete.

This is what I ended up with. Quite good.

Quick selection

Open the photo and duplicate the layer.

Find the Quick Selection tool.

And we begin to slowly select objects. As you can see, the color sensitivity here is less than the wand, but the object sensitivity is higher. Usually I act little by little: select a little and delete (del button).

By the way, you see, I took a screenshot about the duplicate layer, but did not click on the corresponding button. I had to do it again.

Now deletion is not a problem.

With the sky it turned out much faster, since the contrast is higher. With the beach it is a more labor-intensive process.

In this place I generally had to poke around for about 3 minutes.

From this picture I need to cut out the sea, the man and his reflection in the water. If you cut a strip between the two desired objects, as shown in the screenshot below, then you can get rid of the bottom part using a quick selection in a second.

This is the result that can happen. By the way, for this picture I also had to use a background eraser, but more on that later.

Magnetic lasso

The lasso task is a little different. It does not cut out, but just captures the desired part of the image. You can copy and paste it into any picture.

Of course, as in the case of discharge, it’s cool when you have plain background, but not so important anymore.

Magnetic lasso is the most convenient way to cut out people. The line seems to stick to the image we need and, if anything happens, we can always click to set a capture point.

So, open the image and make a duplicate. This is not necessary, but why not.

Select the right tool.

You can simply move the mouse along the contour, you can left-click in some places to put a point that will not move. Over time you will get the hang of it. In practice it becomes more clear. If you make a selection on a large scale and don’t see where to move the cursor next, just hold down the spacebar and then move the mouse down. As soon as you release the spacebar, the cursor will transform back into a lasso.

You need to follow the contour of the object, when you complete the circle, click next to the point from which you started and blinking ants crawl along the object.

Copy and paste using Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. Remove the visibility of unnecessary layers and can be saved in png format.

Almost done. Using the same magnetic lasso, we remove the background under the girl’s tail and the triangle between her legs.

Done, this is the final result.

Straight-line lasso

I won't pay much attention to the straight-line lasso. Everything looks like it's magnetic, except the line doesn't stick. She's straight.

Copy and paste. Remove the visibility of two unnecessary layers.

The result can be used like this.

Lasso

This tool is not much different from the other two and will definitely appeal to those with an ideal cerebellum.

Open it and make a duplicate.

Select lasso.

We trace the fragment by hand.

Let's go.

Copy, paste, done.

And in this video you can see 4 more very simple and coolest ways selecting objects in Photoshop: you will learn how to coolly cut out people with curly hair (this is a very difficult and professional job), erase the background with an eraser (what I used for the picture with Godzilla), select with a quick mask and secure information with a lasso. And all this in 13 , 5 minutes!

A lot, but no one wants to pay normal money for equipment. Cool projects are important to customers, and they can only be created through experience. Don't worry if you don't know how to do anything right now. Some time will pass, you will do more than one job, but in the end you will become a professional. It's unavoidable.

Study, study and study again. Practice should be daily. I can only recommend this wonderful course - “ Photoshop from scratch in video format ».

Instructions

To begin with, we need an editorial room focused on working with video files. There is a whole lot of software of this kind. The most popular of them are Sony Vegas, Pinnacle and Movie Maker.

The first two programs are the product of development by independent companies. But the third is the child of the creativity of Bill Gates and his team, namely, the development of Microsoft. Therefore, we can conclude that this video editing application is part of the operating Windows systems. Therefore, you can easily start working with it.

Let's launch the program. If you have any questions about the location of Movie Maker, you should look for it in the “Entertainment” tab. Although this program, as a rule, is located on a par with all others in the general “All programs” tab.

We launched the program. It is immediately recommended to reduce the window to half the screen. Then select the fragment from which you want to cut and transfer it to the storyboard (the line located at the bottom of the window divides the film into frames). The more weight a film has, the more time it will take to break it down into frames. Plus, a lot depends on the hardware of the computer. One way or another, you will have to wait a while.

When the storyboarding process is successfully completed, all that remains is to find the necessary player, and it is in it that you need to rewind the film until the desired moment is found.

Then it's a matter of technology. Place markers at the beginning and end of the fragment of interest, select it, cut it out, and open a new window. Paste and save in a convenient format. Usually *AVI is used, but here, as they say, it’s not for everyone. The work is completed, the fragment is cut out.

Working with video materials when purchasing a video camera is of increasing interest to home film enthusiasts. Video processing today is quite an interesting and profitable activity. Once you weigh the pros and cons of amateur filming and editing, the advantage of owning a video camera will become obvious to you. This includes free video shooting, free video editing, and free distribution of your videos. There are more advantages than disadvantages.

Frame cropping or cropping is used quite often in video processing and video editing. Cropping allows you to select an arbitrary rectangular area in the source video so that only it is included in the resulting video sequence. Using cropping, you can cut off black areas in digitized wide-format films shot on film, and highlight successful fragments of scenes when editing home videos. Modern video editing tools make this quite simple.

HDD, as you know, is big, but not rubbery. And if a video file an hour long takes up space on it, and you need exactly one and a half minutes from this file, there is only one way out: take and cut the required part of the file. Or it may be the other way around: a beautiful video can be ruined by a few minutes when the operator’s hand trembles. The solution is the same - cut out part of the file.

Open in VirtualDub. Press the traditional keyboard shortcut Ctrl+O, in the window that appears, left-click on the file from which you want to cut a fragment and then click on the “Open” button.

Regardless of whether you need to delete a video fragment or, conversely, save it, position the cursor on the first frame of this video fragment. If the video you need to cut a fragment from is packaged in a VOB container, you can do it even simpler. To cut fragments from VOB files, you can use DVD program Cutter. All you need to do is open the file in it, find the beginning of the desired fragment and click on the Set Start button. Then find the end of the desired fragment and click on the Set End button. Click the Save Selection button and specify the name of the file to be saved. The cut fragment will be saved as the same VOB file. Like the VirtualDub editor, this program is free.

Often, any of us may need to trim some composition. The reason for this may be, for example, the need to create a ringtone. Yes, you can find it already ready-made solutions online, but it’s much nicer and more convenient to make your own. This is why there are programs for cutting music.

But what to do if you don’t have any of these tools installed on your computer or you want to perform an operation from your smartphone and look for suitable software in Google Play or App Store no time? Online services will help us, and today’s list will depend on their functionality and convenience.

4 services for cutting music online

MP3Cut

This resource is distinguished by its simplicity of design, which does not in any way affect its functionality. The working interface here is implemented very beautifully, all the control elements are in their places, you can immediately understand how to work on the site. We are immediately offered to install a special add-on that can cut music even without visiting the site.

How to use the service

  1. Go to the home page mp3cut.ru. Next, let's open the file that we will process. To do this, simply click on the button that says: "Open file". The Russian interface facilitates more comfortable work from www.mp3cut.ru.
  2. We select the desired song from a folder on our computer. MP3, AMR, WAV and AAC formats are supported.
  3. We wait a few seconds for the track to be processed. Time may vary depending on service load, bitrate and audio file size.
  4. First of all, let's set the sliders to the beginning and end of the future segment. At the same time, for convenience, you can start playing it using the spacebar or a green virtual button with a triangle icon. Unfortunately, you won't be able to zoom in on the track.
  5. When the beginning and end of the composition are changed, you can add effects for its smooth start and end; for this, there are two special buttons.
  6. At the very bottom of the working interface there is a key "Ringtone forIPhone", clicking on which will give sound file at the output of the required settings.
  7. When the preparation of the future ringtone is completed, you can click on the key "Crop" and start the process.
  8. Processing will only take a couple of seconds.
  9. You can download the result and install it on your phone as a call.

The service deserves the highest rating. Excellent speed, ease of use, nice appearance and functionality do their job. Rating 5+.

MP3Cut Foxcom

This service also stands out for its nice design. At the very beginning of the page we are greeted with visual instructions that step by step explain the process of working in mp3cut.foxcom. It consists of three steps: downloading the file, selecting the desired fragment and trimming it. Interesting feature service is the ability to download compositions from your page to social network In contact with. You can also combine two audio fragments into one (“glue” songs together). Below is the main interface, let's figure out how to work with it.

I liked the service less than the previous one. Not only is the appearance here much worse, but when adding a composition, the sine wave of the music is invisible. In addition, the menu lines intersect with the graphical interface, which does not look very nice.

MP3Rezak

This site cannot boast good design. The large white piece at the bottom of the page does not contribute to the perception of the service, and the main block shifted to the right perpetuates a negative impression. But, the main thing is functionality, and we will figure out how things are going with it with our own eyes.

Speaking about the service, I would like to clarify, at the beginning of the story about mp3rezak we mentioned the poor interface of the main page, but, as it turned out, the cutter itself looks great. Working with him is even more pleasant than with www.mp3cut.ru. The only drawback is the lack of a smooth cut setting.

Mobilizio

The BOBILIZIO service looks different from other tools. At first glance, there is a lot of text and few graphic elements. But it’s not only the design that upsets BOBILIZIO, here you can select a fragment of no more than 60 seconds, and although this is usually enough for any ringtone melody, no one wants to feel the restrictions. Apart from sliders, fragment selection and a button to start cropping, there is nothing else here; the interface is meager and dull. In any case, let's figure out how to work with the service.

Above we described several services for online cutting of music of any format; the choice of any of them depends only on you. But in any case, it’s clear - to process a melody, you no longer need to install programs, everything is done directly in the browser, and it’s fast, free and convenient.

It often occurs to us to change the ringtone on our phone. But usually the intros in songs are too long. Instead of long “howls,” I want to hear the chorus right away. But how can you crop a composition quickly, easily and for free?

There are special online services where even an inexperienced PC user can cope with the task. Next we will look at the sites mp3cut.su and ringtosha.ru.

Trimming songs online

The Internet is teeming with various sites for data processing, on some of them you can convert documents, on others you can change images. But we are only interested in those that allow you to quickly and without much difficulty trim music to the desired size.

Method 1: MP3CUT

Let's look at the process of cutting a song on mp3cut.foxcom.su

Music cutting site mp3cut

    1. Once you have entered the site, search for home page button "Download".

    1. After this, a window will appear in which you can select the composition with which you would like to manipulate.

    1. After you click on the file, it will be uploaded to the site in a couple of seconds so that you can process it online. After that, click on the play icon.
