Probably every user iPhone phone, iPad tablet or player iPod touch at least once during use I saw a black screen with a picture of a USB cable and the iTunes icon. If you see a cable and iTunes on the screen of your iPhone, this means that the phone is in recovery mode (in English – Recovery Mode). This same recovery mode can be turned on forcibly; if you are interested in how this is done, read the note about how to do it manually.

Sometimes a screen with a USB cable and the iTunes icon appears as a result of unsuccessful updates or flashing iOS, and when connecting to iTunes, a notification appears with the text:

iTunes detected your iPod, iPhone, or iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this device before using it in iTunes.

Sometimes such unpleasant moments happen: the iPhone does not turn on, i.e. turn on, it turns on, but iOS does not load.

We recently encountered a similar problem. After trying to update the firmware to iOS 7, our iPhone stopped turning on after an unsuccessful update. The same thing happened with the iPod touch - the same cable and iTunes, plus a few different unknowns.
.

When connecting both the iPhone and iPod to the computer, the iTunes program offered us only to restore the devices, only then they would work again and the iOS firmware would start, and so many people think. But the fact is that by restoring an iPhone or iPod to iTunes program, we will lose all the information in the device’s memory, but we can’t lose it, especially since we don’t have backup copies. Therefore, we decided to try to return the iPod and iPhone to their previous working condition. It turns out that this can be done by exiting recovery mode.

There are several ways to exit Recovery Mode:

  • Method No. 1 – While the USB cable and iTunes are displayed on the screen, perform this by holding down the Home + Power button and without releasing these buttons for 10-15 seconds. Then press the Power button again.
  • If the first method did not help, then you are in , to exit recovery mode, use special programs: TinyUmbrella, iReb or RecBoot.

There is a third way to get rid of the annoying black screen with the image of cable and iTunes - restore to iTunes, but we are not considering it, since it will erase all the content, which in our case cannot be allowed.

The first method for exiting Recovery Mode didn't work for us, but it did work when we previously specifically put the iPhone into Recovery Mode. The iPod and iPhone still showed the USB cord and the Tuna icon. Then we decided to use the TinyUmbrella program, which is installed on the computer, keep it - in Windows, for operating Mac systems OS program TinyUmbrella also exists.

After downloading TinyUmbrella for OS Windows program At first she refused to start, but we persuaded her, read the details at the link in the startup instructions above.

Exiting Recovery Mode with TinyUmbrella

TinyUmbrella started working, and the first thing we did was try to exit recovery mode on the iPhone. We connected the iPhone to the computer using a standard cable and launched the TinyUmbrella program on the computer.

On the left side of the program we saw a section - Recovery Devices, in which there was a device with number - 1114116 , next to it was an icon with a question mark. This is our device. To exit Recovery Mode, perform two steps:

  1. Click on the unidentified device, in our case – 1114116
  2. On the right side of the TinyUmbrella program, click the button – Exit Recovery.

As soon as we pressed the Exit Recovery button, our iPhone rebooted and we saw the good old firmware 6.1.3. Thus, we still managed to exit recovery mode and return the iPhone to its previous working state.

If TinyUmbrella does not detect the device when you connect your iPhone or iPad, then install iTunes on your computer and repeat the steps described above.

In conclusion, it must be said that the TinyUmbrella program can be used by all iPhone, iPad and iPod users who are faced with the image of the cable and the iTunes program on the device’s display and do not want to lose all the information. If you were unable to launch TinyUmbrella, then try, which also takes you out of recovery mode.

If you also manage to restore your device to its previous state, you can use it to transfer information from your iPhone to your computer and create a backup copy. Well, we will try to complete it without losing data. We wish you successful exits from Recovery Mode.

There are times when, due to a firmware update via Wi-Fi or a system failure, your iPhone, iPod or iPad refuses to boot normally. A smartphone from the Californian brand Apple is technological thoroughness, multiplied by the absolute practicality of the device, and all this is elevated to the degree of reliability. Such a statement in favor of the mentioned American company today is a kind of a priori in the industry mobile devices. But... no matter what perfect qualities an “Apple” phone has, without which the mode can be considered iPhone recovery, in a critical situation the user will not be able to get by by definition, since the iOS operating environment is a system whose operation is associated with a mandatory process - setting up functionality. You, dear reader, will learn about this option and how to use it from the material in this article.

“Trouble came from where we didn’t expect it”: briefly about the causes of problems with the iPhone

Like any other computerized system, iOS is at risk of software failure, which may ultimately result in partial or complete inoperability of the device as a whole. Since the iPhone is, first of all, an individual means of communication, its functionality provides the ability to organize certain settings in accordance with the user’s preferences: display brightness, font size, alert type and a number of other changes. At the same time, we should not forget that the iPhone is a multifunctional mobile device that can interact with its owner through installed software. iPhone recovery mode will become a popular tool in cases where the user incorrectly installs an application or implements third-party software solutions (with active jailbreaking), which ultimately negatively affect the full functionality of the device.

As a reference: the concepts of “upgrade” and “rollback”

The name "iPhone Recovery Mode" is meant as an implementable method to return to initial settings device, so to speak, to factory settings, and performing an algorithm for updating the operating environment by completely replacing system files. In this case, the OS version can be left the same or upgraded to the current state. The two points described above are fundamentally different. Therefore, the user must independently decide which option is most appropriate in terms of implementation. However, in order to determine which method is the most rational, you should pay attention to the signs of a malfunction and only then use the iPhone recovery mode.

Analysis and diagnostics

So, first of all, you need to understand what exactly happened to the phone:

  1. Systematic “glitches” are observed during the operation of the communication device.
  2. The phone is frozen and does not respond at all to pressing the navigation keys.
  3. At the first stage of loading iOS, the logo simply “hangs”, without obvious signs of OS activity.
  4. When you turn on the phone and nothing else...
  5. The mobile device reboots spontaneously.
  6. The user is firmly confident that the phone has not been subjected to any mechanical stress, and one of the devices on the device stopped working: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or camera.

How to Enable iPhone Recovery Mode: step-by-step instruction

You should not immediately resort to drastic measures, one of which is considered to be the direct process of flashing. It is likely that a simple “reset” will become precisely the means of restoring the functionality of the illuminated communication device. Perhaps activated “Recovery Mode” can cure mobile illness. Start with simple solutions and only if they are useless, move on to more serious iPhone reincarnation scenarios.

Step #1: Banal reboot

  1. You must simultaneously hold down the “On” and “Home” keys and hold them in this state for 10 seconds.
  2. After the logo appears, the phone will begin to “come to life.”

Step 2: Traditional reset through the settings menu

iPhone 5 Recovery Mode can be activated by using standard means device

  1. Go to the "Settings" menu.
  2. Then go to the "Basic" tab.
  3. Activate the "Reset" item.
  4. From the list that appears, select the type of memory cleaning that is most suitable for you.

Step #3: How to enter Recovery Mode

In order to use this mode recovery, iPhone 5s or a similar device of another modification must be completely turned off.

  1. Press and hold the Home button and connect to USB phone cord included in the kit.
  2. Only after the iTunes and USB logo is displayed on the mobile screen can the pressed key be released.

Of course, the connecting cable must be connected to a computer on which the current version of the above program for working with an iPhone device must be installed. If all your actions are performed correctly, the monitor will show official message, indicating that the connection was successful.

Step #4: Return iOS to its original state using Recovery Mode

Knowledge of how to enable iPhone recovery mode is not enough to correctly and correctly carry out the entire process of this type of software maintenance.

  1. After you have connected, a system prompt will appear on the screen with three buttons displayed (at the bottom of the window): cancel, update and restore.
  2. Your choice is the last option listed.
  3. In the iTunes program window that opens, you also need to activate the “Restore” button.
  4. After this, the recovery process will begin.

Step #5: iOS Update (Device Firmware Update)

Entering the iPhone into DFU recovery mode is quite simple, however, do not forget that after the subsequent firmware process, all user information from your device will be destroyed. Therefore, if such a possibility exists, you must first do backup copy data.

  1. Connect your phone to your computer using a USB cable.
  2. Turn off the device completely.
  3. Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds.
  4. After the above time has elapsed, release the power key.
  5. After some time, a message will appear on the computer screen stating that the recovery of the iPhone 5 (the modification is indicated as an example) has been activated, that is, you can carry out further actions with the phone.

Step No. 6: Firmware bypassing the device’s operating system

Although iPhone screen device continues to frighten with its black display (meaning the “Device Firmware Update” mode), iTunes detects the connected device and displays a corresponding message on the monitor. The recovery algorithm remains the same (see step No. 4). However, in DFU mode, the firmware process proceeds most correctly, since the smartphone’s memory undergoes initial formatting and the operating system is installed in the cleared area of the mobile drive.

  1. Download from the official website Apple support current version iOS.
  2. Hold down the Shift key and click the Restore button.
  3. Specify the directory where the downloaded version of iOS is located.
  4. After a short firmware process, the user is given the opportunity to return the saved data (backup) to the updated device.
  5. If you don't have a backup, simply disconnect your phone from your computer and deactivate recovery mode.

An iPhone 4 or Apple device of another modification cannot be flashed with a downgrade iOS version. However this limitation of a purely official nature, since today there are a lot of ways in which older (than originally installed on the phone) system software, so to speak, which has proven itself to work stably, can well be installed on the iPhone without any further negative consequences. By the way, they are incredibly popular among owners of presentable Apple devices, as they can significantly expand the functionality of “canned” capabilities official version iOS.

Finally

So, before you put your iPhone into recovery mode, you need to be firmly confident in your actions and the correctness of the chosen algorithm software repair. Meanwhile, it may well be that the user uses the cloud update option - iCloud. In this case, you need to charge your phone and be prepared for the fact that the recovery process will become a somewhat lengthy task. But there are no guarantees (when using this method) that everything will be successful, since often the speed of the Internet connection leaves much to be desired. Good luck with the restoration process and stable operation of your iPhone device!

iPhone Recovery Mode is sometimes necessary for upgrading or restoring iOS, but sometimes Recovery Mode can also be used for jailbreaking. In Recovery Mode, we can also reflash the phone via iTunes, using a firmware file such as firmware.jpsw. Until you hack the firmware, in this mode it will not be possible to downgrade, that is, lower the firmware version. There have been cases when an iPhone or iPad automatically went into recovery mode when a system failure occurred, that is, problems during the update or recovery process.

In this regard, quite often iPhone owners have a situation where the smartphone seems to “freeze” in recovery mode, and the intuitive method of poking in such a situation, unfortunately, does not work.
