With the advent operating system Users now have Windows 8 additional features, which will help make working at the computer more convenient and interesting. In this article I will describe in detail how you can install Windows 8 on a computer or laptop from a flash drive.

System requirements

First, make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements:

  1. processor frequency of at least 1 GHz;
  2. RAM at least 1 GB for a 32-bit OS, and 2 GB for a 64-bit OS;
  3. The volume of the allocated partition on the hard drive must be at least 20 GB (I allocated 18 GB, and that was enough for me).

Creating a new disk partition

Now you need to select a hard drive partition for Windows installations 8. If you want to install it instead of your old OS, then format the hard drive partition on which it was installed. If you want to install Windows 8 next to your main OS, then you need to select an empty partition on your hard drive.

Creating a bootable USB flash drive

Download the Windows 8 operating system image from the Internet. Then you will need a flash drive, the volume of which should be larger than the downloaded image. Please note that all information from the flash drive will be erased. So copy everything from it necessary files to the partition of the hard drive where the data is stored.

The next thing to do is create a bootable USB flash drive. For this you can use various ways. I'll use the free and simple program Rufus.

Launch it on your computer and select the desired flash drive in the “Device” line. Fill out the next three lines as shown in the figure below. Next, click on the floppy disk icon and select the downloaded image on your computer. Click the "Start" button.

The following window will appear in which the program will warn you that all data from the flash drive will be erased - click “OK”.

After the bootable USB flash drive with the image we need has been created, click on the “Close” button.

Changing the download priority

Now we need to change the boot priority in the BIOS so that the computer starts from our flash drive. Connect the flash drive to the computer on which you will install the operating system. To enter the BIOS, press the F2 or Del button while turning it on or rebooting, this depends on your device. You can change the boot priority in the “Boot” section.

Let's watch a video on how to go into the BIOS settings and boot from a flash drive or disk:

I have ASUS laptop and BIOS looks like this. In the “Boot” section I go to “Hard Drive BBS Priorities”.

Here you need to find the item that contains the words USB or Flash, and put it at the top of the list.

WITH right side read which button is responsible for saving the settings, I have F10, click on it, then click “Yes”.

The computer will reboot and the message will appear - press any button on the keyboard, then the boot will be performed from the flash drive and the installation of the operating system will begin.

After rebooting, the message will appear again “Press any key to boot from USB...”, you don’t need to press anything, otherwise you will boot from the flash drive again.

In the next window, select a suitable background and give your computer a name. Click Next.

If your device is connected to the Internet, you will immediately be prompted to select a network.

The network may be secure, so you must enter a password. Then click Connect.

The next window will ask you to set up your account. Microsoft entry. With its help, you can install applications from the Windows Store, synchronize files and settings. I won't create an account (you can do that later if you need to), so I click the button "Entry without account Microsoft".

Fill in the line "Username". If you want the operating system to prompt you for a password when booting, fill in the following fields; if not, leave them blank. Click Done.

This article will help you understand how to create a bootable Windows flash drive 8 when in use free utilities, implying that the user has an image with the G8 installation files.

But why can't you just copy the contents of the ISO file to removable storage and use it to install the OS? The fact is that when the PC boots, the BIOS, after initializing the hardware, begins searching for the boot sector. It queries the first sector of the drive to find the MBR master boot record code. When an MBR is detected, the BIOS transfers control to it. The MBR detects the active partition and reads its 1st sector, which contains the Windows boot loader - PBR. When simply copying files from an ISO image to a drive, the MBR main boot area is not formed on it and boot record(OS loader) – PBR.
