Compact tablet computers have always been in fairly high demand. There are many reasons for this: firstly, it is functionality (it is always convenient to have a device on hand that can perform many tasks); secondly, small dimensions (the display diagonal of such devices is 7-8 inches, which allows you to carry them with you); thirdly, an affordable price (almost all gadgets in this category cost no more than $100-200).

In this article we will talk about one of such devices. It's called Acer Iconia B1, however, you will no longer find this gadget on sale. The reason for this is simple: the computer was introduced back in 2014. During this time, the technical characteristics of the device became outdated and it was replaced by new, more advanced devices.

In the article we will describe its capabilities and special differences from other similar devices. Let’s also look at the reviews left by customers and try to form some general conclusion regarding the device.

Equipment

Review electronic device Traditionally, you should start with the characteristics of the kit in which it comes. In the case of the Acer Iconia B1, nothing special can be noted. The computer comes in a classic set: along with a charger consisting of a cable and an adapter for connecting to the network, with a user manual, as well as a warranty card that provides customer support in case of any malfunction.

As the reviews describing the Acer Iconia B1 note, the model is offered in a white box with a picture of the device and standard Acer markings. You can’t say anything special about this: everything is the same as in other computers.

Positioning

If we talk in general about how the manufacturing company positions itself, it can be noted that in terms of price its products occupy a middle place between cheap ones (such as Fly, TeXet and others) and more expensive equipment developed by Samsung, Asus and similar brands. However, again, in addition to its low cost and belonging to a renowned computer equipment manufacturer, the Acer Iconia B1 model also boasts a rich set of components, including a GPS module and a Bluetooth transmitter. And in general, in terms of its characteristics, the device is ahead of many competitors with higher technical parameters, which we will talk about later in the article.

Appearance

In fact, when describing the design of the model, it is even difficult to focus on any of the latter’s elements: it may seem so unsightly and ordinary. The appearance of the Acer Iconia B1 stands out, except due to the bright blue line on the edging. Without it, this “baby” would be indistinguishable from the masses Chinese devices, having the simplest possible layout.

As users of the device note in their reviews, the build quality of the tablet can be called quite high: the model does not “play” and practically does not make any sounds while working with it. The only thing you can pay attention to is the pressing of the front panel of the gadget when pressing on some areas. However, this move is hardly noticeable and does not cause much discomfort.

The dimensions of the case are classic: around the screen (which we will characterize later) there is a thick plastic frame, which is quite comfortable to hold on to if you place the tablet in one hand. The weight of the device (320 grams) allows you to conveniently handle it while reading, watching movies or playing “toys”.

The model's body is made of plastic, but the quality of the material suggests its durability and wear resistance. As the reviews describe, even after a couple of months active work with the tablet after purchase, small scratches are hardly noticeable due to the special texture of the coating.

Navigation

Speaking about how the computer controls work, we should mention the classic set of “rockers” for changing the volume, the screen unlock key, as well as system keys at the bottom of the display. All this is identical to the control system used on other tablets, including inexpensive Chinese models.

The device's speaker is located on the back cover, at the bottom of the case. By the way, the Acer Iconia B1 sounds clean and relatively loud. The hole is covered with a special protective mesh to prevent the ingress of dust and sand.

The connector for charging the tablet was placed at the bottom, while the hole for the headset was installed on the top edge (according to the classic image). Next to the USB input you can see a hole for a memory card. Also in some reviews there are versions in which there is empty space (perhaps allocated for a SIM module, which the Acer Iconia B1 does not have).

Screen

The resolution of the tablet is not the highest and is only 1024 x 600 pixels. Based on this characteristic, you should not count on a high density of dots: it is 170 units per square inch. They also saved on the matrix that reproduces the image by installing a version based on TN technology instead of IPS (inherent in many cheap tablets).

Due to this, there is no need to talk about both color saturation and wide viewing angles: just slightly tilt or rotate the device - and this will seriously change the tonality of the picture.

This drawback, however, is compensated by the fairly high flexibility of brightness settings. As evidenced by the comments of users who bought the Acer Iconia B1 tablet, at night this indicator can be lowered to a minimum, which will allow you to avoid being “blind” in the dark from bright light. At the same time, in bright sunlight the situation worsens: ensure high level The device cannot light up the screen.

Battery

The main factor influencing the autonomy of the device and its ability to work on a single charge without additional connection to the power source, is the battery capacity and the level of energy consumption. Regarding the first, you can notice that the battery on the tablet has a capacity of 2710 mAh, which is a relatively low figure (taking into account the fact that most Chinese tablets equipped with 3000-4000 mAh batteries).

The position of the Acer Iconia B1 723 is only partially redeemed by the fact that the device is not equipped with the most powerful and colorful display, which does not require significant energy consumption. The end result is 5-6 hours of active surfing or only 3-4 hours of watching high-quality video at maximum brightness. Of course, this device cannot be called a leader in energy saving and operating time.

Connection

As noted above, the Acer Iconia Talk B1 723 has a feature that sets it apart from similar cheap models produced in the Middle Kingdom. In just a couple of minutes, the device can establish contact with a satellite, which will provide accurate information about where your gadget is and how to get to the place you need.

As already reported above, the tablet does not have a SIM card, so you will have to forget about 3G/4G mobile Internet. Maximum - the device can connect to Wi-Fi networks, operating on a stationary basis.

RAM and physical memory

The gadget that we are describing in this article cannot boast of a large amount of RAM, which would allow the device to work faster and more smoothly. There are only 512 megabytes here, of which no more than 200 MB are permanently available. This, of course, is not enough to run some intensive (in terms of loading resources) applications, colorful games and other “complex” programs. Most likely, as the duration of use of the tablet increases, the speed of its system will decrease, as happens with all devices.

Concerning internal memory, the device is equipped with 6 GB of memory, of which 1 is allocated for downloading applications and 5 for serving user data. In addition, the device has a memory card slot, thanks to which the total memory can be increased by another 32 GB.

Camera

Naturally, specifications tablet computer include a module such as a camera and its description. However, a simple buyer is unlikely to choose one model over another because it has good photo capabilities, because all tablets have approximately equally poor camera parameters. Our Acer Iconia B1 tablet is no exception in this regard. There is only one camera, located on the front panel (directly above the screen). As you can guess from its location, it is used for creating modest (in terms of quality) selfie pictures, as well as for video communication in Skype and similar programs. As many users note, this module has enough capabilities for them. It’s unlikely that anyone will use the front camera to photograph large-scale landscapes.

CPU

Finally, we come to one of the most important modules in any smart electronic device: the processor. This is the heart of our gadget, which, in the case of the Acer Iconia Talk 7 B1 723, does not have the best performance. Let's start with the fact that it is used in budget models The module operates on two cores, each of which has a frequency of 1.2 GHz. The processor, which, in principle, ensures fast user interaction with the device, works in tandem with the graphics engine of the VR SGX531 modification.

operating system

We have already informed you that the device was released back in 2014. Of course, even then it was not considered a flagship model, which is why the Acer Iconia B1 did not have the latest firmware installed (even by those standards). Now we mean the operating system Android modification 4.1.2. We know it as one of the earliest in the fourth generation line. However, since the manufacturer has provided the ability to “update”, it may well be that the gadget has already reached the 5th or 6th generation operating system.

Speaking about the shell interface, it should be said that the developer company did not work on creating an individual design for its Acer Iconia B1 7”. The classic theme from Android is used here, so for those who have had experience working with it, it will indeed seem “native”.

Extremely affordable price for a branded tablet (bought for 5,000 rubles) Nice design. Optimal size. The presence of GPS, which famously catches a dozen satellites. Front-camera. Very fast wifi. Excellent video playback quality (there is an excellent omnivorous free player on the market) and good sound in headphones. Well, and the fourth Andryusha with all the consequences. Sheer pleasure.

The battery is very small, the case is weak

    2 years ago 0

Lack of USB and 3G. For that kind of money it's not critical. Small viewing angles and a camera in the corner. Which, in fact, is not critical either! But the speaker at the back is a little disappointing. A child plays or watches cartoons by placing the tablet on the surface, and this greatly, greatly affects the sound.
The battery is rather weak, but we try not to use it to such an extent that we live near the outlet)

The first three months everything was fine, but then the horror began,
    1. The tablet always had a lack of RAM
    2. Not enough charge
    3. Overheats too quickly (since Mtk is known for hot processors, I think it’s their fault)
    4. Freezes and the message Low Memory appears (lack of RAM)

The camera is in the corner (you have to tilt the tablet), the volume and lock buttons are hard to press (you have to press hard to press), the right side of the screen is wider than the left, weak battery, the lower left corner is stupidly made (cut off for some kind of sticker).

At the end of December Acer company introduced its budget tablet B1-A71 costing $150. It is clear that in Russia or Ukraine this tablet will have a higher price, about 200-220 dollars, but, nevertheless, it will be interesting to look at this model and understand what they saved on.

Appearance of the Acer B1-A71 tablet

Typically, budget and other tablets tend to have a boring design. Acer B1-A71 is an exception. Firstly, thanks to the blue insert, which adds some zest. Secondly, the unusual convex back cover. The body is made of plastic, which does not cause rejection. The build is not bad, for a budget device. The weight of the new product is only 320 grams and the size is 197.4 x 128.5 x 11.3 mm, which makes it one of the lightest and most compact tablets on the market.

Screen Acer B1-A71

The tablet display has a diagonal of 7 inches. The resolution is 1024*600 pixels, which is quite normal for the price of the device. The pixel density is 170 PPI. All the pleasure from the screen is spoiled by the terrible TFT matrix. It still displays colors more or less normally, but the viewing angles are just a nightmare. Even with a slight deviation, there is a strong distortion of the picture, and making out any information on the screen becomes problematic.

In addition, the display is covered only with protective plastic: there is no glass here. Therefore, when you press the screen, you can see how the plastic bends. Therefore, in terms of display quality this model deserves a negative assessment, because many budget tablets from China already have IPS matrices, which are head and shoulders above the brightness and color rendition of the screen installed in the Acer B1-A71 tablet.

Hardware or filling Acer B1-A71

B1-A-71 has a 2-core processor from the Taiwanese company MediaTek with a frequency of 1.2 GHz per core. The graphics core is PowerVR 531. RAM is only 512 megabytes, which is not enough, considering that Android system eats up a lot of RAM. The built-in memory is 8 GB and can be easily expanded with Micro SD cards up to 32 GB. In principle, the filling is quite good for a budget tablet. Most popular toys start up fine.

Operating system Acer B1-A71

The tablet has the latest version installed on the tablet. Android version 4.1 Jelly Bean, without any add-ons. Considering that the Acer B1-A71 is a budget device, there will most likely not be an update to version 5.0. The interface works quite quickly, although not as smoothly as on its more powerful counterparts. No radio.

Camera Acer B1-A71

The tablet has only a 0.3 megapixel front VGA camera, which is only 640x480 pixels. You can also shoot video, but you already understand what kind of quality the shooting will be... There is no main camera and this is understandable due to the low cost of the device. The quality of the front camera is not very good good quality and at the very least suitable for communicating on Skype.

The tablet has Bluetooth 4.0, as well as a WI-FI 802.11 b/g/n module. There is no 3G support, which makes the tablet significantly unattractive. Also no GPRS and EDGE ( digital technology wireless transmission data for cellular communications). There is a microUSB v2.0 input.

Battery Acer B1-A71

The built-in battery has a small capacity of 2710 mAh. It is clear that with such a capacity you cannot count on a long life without an outlet. In active use mode, the tablet lasts about 3 hours.

Our conclusions and reviews about the Acer B1-A71

In general, to be honest, the tablet from Acer was not entirely successful. Among the advantages we can note a pleasant appearance, Android 4.1, good hardware for such a price, and actually a low price.

There are also plenty of disadvantages. This is a very poor screen matrix, no protective glass for the display, a small battery, and a weak front camera.

Technoreview advises that it is better to pay a little extra and get a more functional and high-quality tablet than to regret the purchase later. Although, if you have never used Android devices, then this tablet will be a good pass into this system. Or, as an option, buy it for your growing son or daughter, but before you let him use the Acer B1-A71 tablet, first warn him not to poke his fingers too hard into the display.

Compact tablet with excellent value for money.

Equipment

The scope of delivery is quite standard for tablets. In addition to the Iconia Tab, in the box you will find Charger, microUSB cable, and quick guide user.

Design

The rustic design of the tablet may appeal to many. Rounded corners and edges are pleasing to the eye. The highly visible blue trim on the body is something new. And the triangle in the lower left corner will always remind you of the name of the model.

There is a display on the front panel, and the front camera for communication and Skype conversations is clearly visible in the upper right corner.

Matte power and volume buttons are located on the left side. Ports and connectors are installed on the top and bottom sides.

Most of the back panel is occupied by a metal insert painted black. The manufacturer's logo stands out on it. And in the lower right corner of the plane there is a speaker grille.

Display

The tablet uses a 7″ matrix made using TN technology. Its resolution is 1024 x 600 pixels with a density of 170 dots per inch.

The display has a good level of brightness and viewing angles sufficient for reading books and watching movies. Contrast is also at an acceptable level. And even though the colors could be brighter and more saturated, the fantastic worlds from movies and games look great on the display.

Ergonomics

The tablet is light and compact. It won't take up much space in your bag or backpack.

Even though the manufacturer had to save on materials, the build quality is not bad. The surfaces of the case are not easily soiled, but the same cannot be said about the front side. It gets dirty easily, so we recommend getting a microfiber cloth.

It is worth noting that the gyroscope is working correctly. The sensor responds quickly, so you don't have to wait for the interface to deign to turn.

The on-screen keyboard is large enough for typing even in portrait orientation.

It remains to add that the built-in speaker produces sound that is not too loud, but clear and pleasant to the ear. You don't need headphones or an external audio system when watching movies and videos.

Interface and software

Iconia Tab B1-A71 runs an operating system Google Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean with a standard interface.

The user has access to 5 desktops that can be decorated with wallpaper. They contain application shortcuts, folders with icons, and widgets.

The notification panel is supplemented with switches for wireless functions and settings.

The standard set of applications is supplemented by the client cloud storage Acer Cloud and a shortcut to the Internet page of the developer Gameloft, where you can download games for the tablet for free.

Performance

The device has a dual-core MediaTek processor MTK 8317T with a clock speed of 1.2 GHz, PowerVR SGX531 video processor, and 512 MB random access memory. The internal storage size is 8 GB of which about 6 GB is available to the user. The memory can be expanded using a microSD card up to 32 GB.

The performance level is quite high for a budget device. The tablet can easily cope with web surfing, movies, high resolution and most games and applications available in the market.

Communications

The tablet's wireless capabilities are limited Wi-Fi modules 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS.

On the top edge of the device there is a 3.5 mm port for connecting headphones.

On the opposite panel you will find a microUSB connector and a slot for microSD cards, which is hidden behind a plastic plug.

Working hours

Iconia Tab B1-A71 does not boast the most capacious battery among 7-inch tablets. It uses a 2710 mAh lithium polymer battery. However, the device shows excellent battery life. The tablet will easily work for 12 hours when browsing the Internet at minimum display brightness. If you set the brightness level comfortable for reading, the device will provide 6-7 hours of operation.

At maximum processor load and graphics adapter, the tablet will last about 3 hours.

It is also worth noting that the B1-A71 is capable of working for more than 5 days in standby mode.

Impression

Even with all the compromises that the manufacturer had to make, the Acer Iconia Tab B1-A71 is a good budget tablet from a famous brand.
