Over time, each user may need to ensure anonymity on the Internet. There can be a lot of reasons for this, for example, it is quite possible that the Internet provider may have mistakenly blocked access to the desired site, or maybe you just want to hide your presence on various sites.

Fortunately, it is quite easy to ensure anonymity; to do this, you need to download a special extension - Hola VPN, which is installed directly in Yandex Browser.

Advantages and disadvantages

But before we begin installation, I want to note a number of advantages and capabilities of the plugin:

  • Allows you to access any blocked site.
  • Enough fast speed works compared to similar free ones VPN extensions mi.
  • Provides a high level of confidentiality. This is achieved through the use of complex encryption without logging, which does not allow tracking user actions.
  • Lots of servers to connect to.
  • Hall VPN is distributed free of charge.
  • Interface in Russian.
  • Convenient controls.

Despite its many advantages, the plugin still has its drawbacks:

  • There are a number of vulnerabilities. But, fortunately, the addon developers are gradually eliminating all the “holes”, making the VPN extension safer for use in Yandex Browser.
  • At its core, Hola VPN is a “ping” network. This means that all computers on which this add-on is installed are united into one network. And if one of the users downloads prohibited files, then traces will remain on all computers. In the future, it will be difficult to prove that someone else did it.

And looking at all these pros and cons, we can confidently say that Hola VPN is one of the best free solutions For Yandex browser, which is definitely worth using. But all addons have shortcomings, no one is immune from this, and besides, the developers are constantly updating the plugin, making it even more secure.

Installation instructions

The installation principle is quite simple:

After this, the installation will be completed.

How to start using the plugin

Open the blocked site in Yandex Browser and click on the add-on icon, which is located in the upper right corner of the browser. Select the country from which your visit will be displayed.

For example, if you live in Russia and a certain site is blocked, then select any other country. After which the site will begin loading from the country you have chosen.

If you need to pause VPN Hola, click the shutdown icon. The same icon enables the extension.

Additional features

The Hall VPN plugin provides a number of features that can be used to make Internet surfing even more comfortable.

The list of these includes:

All addons are installed in Yandex Browser separately from each other.

Removal instructions

If for some reason the Hola VPN extension is not suitable for you, you can always remove it from Yandex Browser.

You can do this in two ways:

Now that we have figured out the basic parameters, we can start testing.

Performance check

Of course, Halla VPN, like any other free extension for Yandex Browser, does not have the same fast loading sites and downloading files, as a direct connection from your provider. But still, the addon showed itself to be very high level compared to similar solutions.

Test 1: Checking the speed of a direct connection without using an add-on.

My Internet speed is 11mb/s, the results are actually the same: Ping – 100, Download speed 11.41 and upload speed 9.62.

Test 2: We use the addon and specify “USA” as the region.

And the results are as follows: ping – 230, download – 3.32 mb/s and upload 2.95 mb/s. The results are quite good.

VPN is The best way bypass blocking of sites blocked by the provider. You can also hide information about yourself, change your IP address and transfer data in encrypted form. But for ordinary users, a VPN, first of all, is an opportunity to visit sites that have been blocked and inaccessible in a particular country.

I have encountered this from my own experience. I tested different VPN extensions (add-ons) for the four most popular browsers: Opera, Google Chrome, Yandex Browser and Firefox. I decided to share this with you useful information. Below we look at the best (in my opinion), free (though not all) VPN add-ons for browsers. I’ll also show you how to find and install them in each browser. After installing and activating these extensions, you will be able to visit blocked sites, social media (VKontakte, Odnoklassniki) and other resources.

A free VPN may not be of high quality. It works slowly and is not stable. Unfortunately it is so. Especially in our time, when these free services a big load has fallen. A free VPN is not suitable for regular use. I think you are already convinced of this.

It’s better, of course, to buy some kind of paid VPN.

A few words about what a VPN (Virtual Private Network) is and how it works. This is a virtual private network. If this doesn’t mean anything to you, then I’ll try to explain it in in simple language. There are many VPN services, both free and paid. Using some kind of VPN service (configured via browser extension, PC program, Android, iOS), all our traffic goes through the server of this service. There can be a lot of such servers, in each country and several of them (it all depends on the specific VPN service).

We receive the IP address of the server through which we connect. This allows us to access blocked sites, since we change our location on the network, connecting through a server installed in another country (where certain sites are not blocked). All data we transmit or receive is encrypted. Which gives us additional protection, especially when connecting via open wifi networks.

Sometimes security can be deceiving when using a VPN. Since all our traffic goes through the servers of some company, there is always a risk that this company will use the information that passes through its servers. Therefore, I advise you to use only time-tested and most popular VPN browser extensions. I will talk about these in this article.

It's simple: if in your country the provider has blocked access to some sites (for example, as VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, Yandex and Mail.ru are now blocked in Ukraine), then we simply install a VPN add-on in our browser, turn it on and we can go to sites to which we have been restricted from accessing.

Free VPN for Opera browser

First of all, I will talk about the solution for the Opera browser. For the reason that I myself use this browser, and in this regard it is the best. Why? But because Opera does not need to install any third-party extensions to visit blocked sites. Opera has its own built-in free VPN, which works just perfectly!

All we need is to install the latest version of the browser. Then go to “Menu” – “Settings”, to the “Security” tab, and check the box next to “Enable VPN”.

All you have to do is turn on the VPN, and you can access sites that your Internet provider has blocked.

You can change your virtual location. But I advise you to leave "Optimal location".

The developers of the Opera browser are certainly great. Not only is the service free, but it also has unlimited traffic and speed. And it is very convenient to use. And most importantly, you can trust a company like Opera. In any case, this is better than some VPN services that were created a couple of days ago.

If you use the Opera browser, then I think the issue of bypassing site blocking is resolved for you.

Advice! If it is not very important for you which browser to use, then you can install Opera and visit the necessary sites through its VPN. So as not to search for and install third-party extensions in other browsers.

For Google browser Chrome has a lot of different VPN extensions. They can be found and installed from the official store. Let me first show you how extensions are installed in the Chrome browser, and then I’ll show you a few specific extensions that I personally tested in use.

Open the menu, go to More Tools and select Extensions. Then, at the bottom, click on “More extensions”.

Will open new inset with a store of various add-ons for Chrome browser. You can simply specify VPN in the search, and we will get a list of necessary extensions.

Just click on the "Install" button, and the extension will be installed in the browser. Then, its icon will appear next to the "Menu" button.

Some VPN extensions for Chrome:

I tried many different ones. Each has its downsides. In any case, download speed may decrease.

Installing a VPN in Yandex Browser

To get started, update your browser to latest version. You can install add-ons in Yandex Browser, including VPN services.

To install an add-on, open the menu, then select Add-ons. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "Catalogue of extensions for Yandex.Browser" button.

Enter "vpn" in the search. A list of the additions we need will appear.

To install what you need, select it and click on the “Add to Yandex.Browser” button. I recommend trying: Hola Better Internet, ZenMate VPN, TunnelBear, DotVPN - better than VPN. After installation, the extension icon will appear next to address bar(on right) . Most likely, you will need to start the VPN in the add-on settings.

Installing friGate in Yandex Browser

I think this is The best decision. Everything works well, and it is possible to open only some sites that are blocked via VPN. You can create lists and add your sites there. Many blocked sites are added by default. You will not be able to install friGate using the method described above. You need to download the extension file and install it.

friGate can be installed and configured in other browsers: Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Chrome.

VPN add-ons for Mozilla Firefox browser

IN Mozilla browser Firefox can also install the necessary extension. Or configure friGate, which I wrote about above (link is also above).

Go to “Menu” – “Add-ons”.

On the extensions tab, in the search bar we write “vpn”, or the name of a specific extension.

You can go to full list extensions by clicking on the appropriate link below.

I checked Hotspot Shield Free VPN Proxy, Hoxx VPN Proxy, ZenMate Security and Privacy & Unblock VPN.

Hotspot Shield works immediately after downloading and turning on. Hoxx and ZenMate require registration.

After VPN installations, blocked sites will open in Mozilla Firefox. If you don’t like the download speed or stability, you can try another add-on.

Afterword

Don't get carried away with installing everything. Remember, it may not be safe! Look at the rating, reviews, number of installations of the extension.

Of the free solutions, I liked the built-in VPN in Opera browser, and friGate, which can be installed in almost every browser.

Whatever VPN service you use, it has its disadvantages and inconveniences. He needs to be watched (enable or disable), speed and ping may also drop. It is possible that the server through which you are connecting may malfunction.

Don't forget to write comments. Share your advice, opinions, and ask questions.

Hola is a brand that has become widely known for releasing free browser extensions that provide access to blocked sites through VPN creation connections.

VPN operation in Hola is based on the Peer-to-Peer principle: the users themselves act as proxy servers through which requests are redirected. If you do not want your computer to act as a proxy server when using Hola, you can purchase paid subscription($5 per month).

The advantage of Hola over other creators of similar extensions is the existence Hola Browser— a separate browser on the Google Chrome platform, which comes pre-installed with a set of Hola add-ons (including one responsible for VPN). By installing it, you simultaneously get both and bypass blocking of poker room sites.

ATTENTION: In 2015, vulnerabilities were identified in Hola VPN that undermine the security of your computer. Some of them have been corrected. However, using Hola may pose a threat to your computer. A safer alternative would be to use an additional browser with

(the board /beast/ which is blocked in Russia) reported a DDoS attack on the site, which looked like a hundredfold influx of ordinary visitors. The most high magnification the posting script post.php received load (there was no captcha on the board); DDoS led to the crash of PHP-FPM, under which the script was executed. During the traffic study, it turned out that user channels with Hola, a popular browser extension for accessing blocked sites, which is popular both abroad and in Russia, were used to carry out the attack.

Users of the extension, without knowing it, gave their Internet channels to a subsidiary of Luminati, which, in fact, owned more than 9 million unique output nodes, at the expense of the extension and user channels. Apparently, they make very good money: the first 100 gigabytes of traffic cost clients $20 per gigabyte.

The project's FAQ didn't make any mention of using user channels, but Hola quickly added a few points about it. Now, if you don't want to give your channel to Limunati, you will have to pay $5 per month.

  • Read arbitrary files up to NULL byte (/file_read.json)
  • Unique user ID expansion (/callback.json)
  • Expanding the addresses of some functions (/procinfo/ps, for later ASLR bypass)
  • Remote code execution (/vlc_mv.json and /vlc_start.json)
  • Elevating privileges to SYSTEM on Windows
All versions of Hola raise the JSON REST HTTP server to 127.0.0.1, but with the Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * header, allowing it to be accessed from any page on the Internet. Windows versions, which install not only an extension in the browser, but also a service, are executed on behalf of SYSTEM.

One of the remote code execution vulnerabilities associated with the lack of filtering of arguments in the launch line of the built-in VLC video player has already been patched in Hola, but the research team is sure that it was simply hidden away so that the exploit on the researchers’ website that launches the Windows calculator would stop working.

On the site “Adios, Hola!”, dedicated to vulnerabilities in the extension, you can check whether you are an exit node, whether you can be identified, and execute code from your and the privileged user SYSTEM. The site also contains the entire complex for Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer and Android versions.

On this moment The Hola extension has been removed from Firefox Addons, but is available in the Chrome Web Store, although it is not in search. I urge all authors of lists of software for circumventing censorship to either remove Hola from the list of options, or write warnings about the fact of using the channel. I have updated my list, which, by the way, is still very popular.
