Hello, dear readers of the blog site. I decided to write a short note about how you can convert a document created in Word into the more popular reading formats PDF (for reading on computer screens, laptops and tablets) or Fb2 (for reading on portable devices with a small screen).

Well, for example, I more or less understand only the capabilities of Word, and I’m not ready to master some other specialized editors (for example, for preparing documents in PDF format). However, sometimes there is a need to post documents online or send someone by mail (free manuals, e-books, etc.). Word is great for creating these files, but reading in it is not customary (and not convenient). That's why we have to use converter to more popular readable formats, such as PDF and FB2.
Word to PDF converter - several options

There is also a checkbox that allows you to immediately open the resulting document in the default program specified for it immediately after converting Word to PDF (I use Foxit Reader). When I set the minimum quality of the final document, my file turned out to be twice as light as when using the built-in Microsoft Office Word converter.
If, when installing doPDF, you did not uncheck the box installing add-ons for Word, then on your toolbar this graphic editor will appear new inset(on the right), where there will be tools for saving the document in PDF format and a button with settings. Essentially, all settings remain the same:
Convert DOC to PDF using Apache OpenOffice
If you do not have the Word editor installed (after all, it is paid), and the doPDF utility for some reason was not installed or did not work properly, then there is another option for converting a Word document into a PDF file. This package can help us with this Open Office (free alternative Office from Melkomyagkikh). For example, I have Apache OpenOffice installed, which can be downloaded for free on the official website using the link provided.
Actually, the analogue of Word in this package is called OpenOffice Writer and it works great with DOC documents. When you open a Word file in this editor, you will find a corresponding “PDF” button on its toolbar. All that remains is to use it and select a location to save the final file.
What is noteworthy is that the converter from OpenOffice Writer turned out to be the most effective and made it possible to obtain a PDF file half the size compared to what the Word converter created (from the same source in DOC format), and the quality did not suffer at all ( unlike the doPDF utility discussed above).

Well, in conclusion, I would like to say a few words about the utility, which can convert a document created in Word into FB2 format. Personally, I use the latter all the time to read books on the go. It supports graphics and is very good at adapting to any screen size, unlike the same PDF, which will have to be viewed on a small screen with horizontal scrolling, and this is terribly inconvenient.
