Creation of 3D models

An assembly is a three-dimensional model of an object consisting of several parts. Components can be inserted from a file, imported from other programs, taken from a library, or drawn directly in the program. Let's create a rectangle. To do this, select the Rectangle command in the Geometry panel.

In addition to a large number of improvements, the service pack included more than 40 additions in 3D modeling, 2D design, interface, as well as applications for mechanical engineering and construction. The developer presents some of them:

  • The graphic area can be increased by automatically hiding the side panels (Options, Document Tree, etc.). In this case, when you call any command, the Parameters panel appears automatically and remains on the screen until the command is completed.

  • KOMPAS-3D has learned to project “outlines” of curved faces into a sketch. Thanks to this, you can link geometry in the Sketch to the sketch lines of the desired surface. It is important that if the shape or position of this surface changes, the sketch will also be rebuilt. You can also project auxiliary and coordinate planes into the sketch, perpendicular to the sketch plane (the result of the projection will be auxiliary straight lines).
  • The ability to copy the geometry of objects (bodies, surfaces, etc.) appeared in KOMPAS-3D V15. Copies of geometry remain connected to their original objects, that is, they change when they are edited. In KOMPAS-3D v18.1 the user can enable manual update copy, and also indicate whether it should monitor the occurrence of changes in its source file.   • In the presented version, a sketch can be transferred from the model to the drawing.   • You can use the “Clear background” command simultaneously for several selected objects, which is important for working with files imported from DWG/DXF formats.

As Ascon reported, in the presented version of the product, the execution of more than 30 basic operations with the model, including opening, rebuilding and closing, has been accelerated. When constructing views, the possibility of “Rough projection” has appeared, which, according to the developer, significantly speeds up the construction of a view of a large assembly. According to the developer, Compass-3D v18 contains several important additions. Topological optimization. Elimination of up to 70% of the model volume while maintaining the required strength of the product using the built-in application “APM FEM. One of the capabilities of the new Compass-3D V15 was support for working in the cloud, Ascon told TAdviser in March 2014. It is implemented using NVIDIA GRID virtualization technology, which, according to the developers, provides “full” graphics performance at the working level stations on any device.

As Nvidia explains, the technology allows access to the application from any client, including a thin one, for example, from a tablet.
