Sony is currently modernizing its mobile device business and shifting its focus to upper and mid-range solutions. In this financial year Sony Mobile Communications plans to sell 38 million smartphones. Despite rumors of abandoning the strategy of releasing new flagship models every six months, Sony Vice President of Global Communications and Public Relations Tim Harrison said in one of his latest interviews that the company has decided to release flagship models more often than once every 12 months. On the one hand, such a solution allows us to quickly take into account past mistakes and impose worthy competition on other manufacturers. But can we then count on fundamental improvements compared to the previous model? This could also lead to competition between devices within the line itself. We will try to find out how justified this is in modern market conditions using an example that we tested.

In terms of dry technical characteristics, this model not much different from its predecessor −. There is still the same 5.2-inch Full HD IPS display, Qualcomm processor Snapdragon 801 and 20.7 MP main camera. Then the logical question arises: “What is the difference?” It lies in a number of design improvements, the proprietary Xperia Home shell and several technical nuances. We will talk about all this in more detail below. To begin with, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the technical Sony specifications Xperia Z3:

Appearance and design

One of the main differences between the Sony Xperia Z3 and previous models is the complete redesign of the body. Now it has much more of the strict features traditional for the company, the phone itself looks more elegant and laconic. The design is called OmniBalance, its basis is the absence of sharp edges and corners, since users of previous Z1 and Z2 models complained of discomfort when using the phone. Now the smartphone is streamlined and fits easily in the hand.

The smartphone is a prominent representative of the Sony line; on the front panel there is a 5.2 inch screen, company logo on top. Accordingly, no buttons on the front panel on a modern touch phone can no longer be seen ─ the only keys that remain are located on the sides of the phone. On the right side there is a key for blocking and volume control, at the top is the headset input. On the left panel ─ inputs for SIM cards s, as well as memory cards. It should be noted that the input is only suitable for Nano-SIM format SIM cards.

The design is called OmniBalance

note

Separately, it is worth noting in the review the rounded corners of the smartphone, which not only make it comfortable to use, but are also reinforced with polycarbonate, making it shock-resistant. They also ensure that the phone survives falls, and simply give it a stylish look.

Accordingly, the speakers are located on the front panel. The dimensions of the smartphone are not much different from those of its predecessors. The Z3 measures 146x72x7.3mm.

Display

If in terms of appearance the Sony Xperia Z3 has overtaken its older brother Z2, then in terms of display they remain equal. Sony Xperia Z3 is equipped with widescreen screen by 5.2 inches, similar to that in the Z2 model. It allows you to reproduce images in 1920x1080 resolution. To improve the quality of color transmission and color correction, Triluminos technology is used, which allows achieving high quality image transmission.

It is important to know

The Sony Xperia Z3 inherited the problem of the older model - image oversaturation. This is especially noticeable when using various filters. As a result, photorealism may be lost when photographing or shooting video, but for most users this was not a particular problem.

There is also automatic correction contrast and brightness. The maximum possible brightness value of the smartphone is 650 cd/m2. What is happening on the phone screen can be easily seen in any lighting.

Software

The smartphone runs on Android 4.4 KitKat OS. This operating system allows you to achieve maximum optimization when working with your phone. Supports wide functionality, works mainly using one processor core. There is built-in optimization for working with background applications.

note

Among the individual features of Android 4.4, it is necessary to highlight such things as the Android RunTime function; this function directly improves the performance of the smartphone by cutting off jit debugging processes.

There is also a built-in unique interface in gray colors. For lovers emoji emoticons There is a wide selection of them in the system. There is a built-in pedometer and a function to display subtitles when watching videos.

There is protection for non-cash payments and payments via telephone.

Pre-installed programs are no different from standard package Sony phones:

The smartphone runs on Android 4.4 KitKat OS

  • TrackID;
  • What's New;
  • office programs;
  • QR code scanner;
  • Google Play Market.

Any program can be removed or improved, everything here is the same as in other smartphones on Android system.

Sound

To transmit the sound of media files, the smartphone uses a VPT surround sound system. Pre-installed functionality to improve sound quality Clear Audio+. The smartphone sounds loud enough, but the sound remains clear without interference or distortion. There is a function for listening to files in most popular formats, such as MP3, MP4, WAV, AIF, APE.

On the plus side, the sound profile can be customized to suit you, without the need to download additional software; even a standard audio player has extensive built-in functions for adjusting sound. There are also already installed sound profile setups. The smartphone does not have a built-in voice recorder.

Performance

The Snapdragon 801 chipset is responsible for the performance power. For a more clear description of this quality, you need to look at the test results from the Geekbench3 and AnTuTu portals. The processor has collected a lot of positive reviews in AnTuTu, and also produces good results ─ 43033 points. High-quality reproduction of graphic elements and support for working with several, including modern, applications are noted.

In the Geekbench 3 benchmark, the phone itself, powered by a Snapdragon processor, collected a decent number of points, 984 and 2708 against 953 and 2399 for the Vivo Xshot, which also operates on the Snapdragon 801. And by a small margin it overtook HTC One(M8) and Samsung Galaxy S5.

It is important to know

According to a review of javascript tests, the Sony flagship did not outperform its competitors, scoring 837 and 6781 ms against lower values. But when considering the speed of the java engine, it is always worth making allowance for the fact that the results are affected by the difference in the operating system used and the browser through which the test is carried out.

In the 3DMark test of graphics power for powerful smartphones, it outperformed the aforementioned competitors in the Unlimited mode, which is an additional excellent characteristic of this phone.

note

It's safe to say that this smartphone with a powerful quad-core processor running Android 4.4 is perfect for entertainment. It will handle very graphically demanding games, such as: Call of Duty Strike Team, Xcom EW, Real Racing 3, Asphalt 8, Modern Combat 5. In general, the phone has graphical characteristics that work without problems with modern applications and games.

It's safe to say that this smartphone is perfect for entertainment.

When watching the video, the device did not cause any complaints, The smartphone supports all popular formats, such as DVDRIP, Web-DL SD, BDRip 720p. True, it only supports them through MX Video Player; the built-in standard player has problems working with most formats. And in this regard, the Sony Xperia Z3 loses to the very first model in the line, which had no complaints at all with video formats and did not have to install additional software.

Camera

The Sony phone has two standard cameras: front and main. The resolution of the main one is 20.7 megapixels, the front one is 2.2 megapixels. These are exactly the same figures as the Sony Xperia Z2. The main improvement of this model is the addition of built-in effects and image overlays. There is an integrated G Lens, A2.0 aperture.

Main camera resolution 20.7 MP

One of the obvious features is the Info-eye mode, this is a VR technology that allows you to add text to an image. There is a Social Life mode for quickly uploading images to a social network, a mode for adding 3D graphics based on SmartAR and Timeshift Burst.

For video shooting, the phone supports 1080p recording at 60 FPS, but there are also 1080p and 4K formats with fewer frames.

Battery

The Sony Xperia Z3 has a 3100 mAh lithium polymer battery. These are very decent indicators for a smartphone, allowing you to hold a charge for a long time. With gentle operation, it does not require recharging for a long time. In lock mode, the smartphone consumes almost no battery power, which is due to the introduction of new energy saving systems. And with active use, the processor power comes in handy, so when watching videos, the maximum operating time is about 10 hours, when playing applications no more than 4 hours, and in talk mode 16 hours.

Separately, to save battery energy, there are functions in the smartphone itself that allow you to put it in power saving mode. There are three modes to choose from: STAMINA, STAMINA Ultra and low charge mode.

Advantages and disadvantages

Sony Xperia Z3 was an excellent work on bug fixes model range. In it, Sony was able to improve the very annoying little things, add new functionality and capabilities and not lose the advantages of previous models. Z3 was able to truly become the flagship among smartphones for 2014 and remains quite relevant to this day due to powerful processor. And an additional bonus is the corrected appearance of the phone.

Electronics manufacturer Cooler Master has a range of hardware products such as keyboards, power supplies, headsets, computer (PC) cases, mice and, of course, coolers. Each of its products has been specifically designed based on community feedback. Including keyboards. Cooler Master even had a Kickstarter project for an analog keyboard with pressure-sensitive keys called the ContolPad. With that said, let's take a closer look at what can make the new Cooler Master SK621 keyboard special for the user.

Keyboard news: Review of Cooler Master SK621 - mechanical wireless keyboard with a separate wired connection option.

The first thing that is noticeable during the review is the ability to conveniently pair the wireless keyboard with three different devices. Connecting your device is as simple as holding the function button and Z, X or C. This feature makes it very easy to switch from using your phone to your computer. Turning on the Cooler Master SK621 keyboard is also easy. Or connect it via cable USB Type-C, or on the left side activate the very simple switch to wireless mode.

Technical characteristics of the Cooler Master SK621 wireless keyboard:

You can map a wide variety of colors (shades) to any key, customize lighting modes, or customize macros using the Cooler Master software.

When using the SK621 for the first time, it is recommended to connect to your computer via USB Type-C and install the Cooler Master Portal. This will allow you to control various lighting effects and wireless keyboard settings. It is possible to create preset profiles, which makes it easier to switch between profiles when using elements. You can also adjust the lighting effects using the controls, but the above mentioned portal is more user friendly. The wireless keyboard setup is very easy to use and has many combinations. There are options - adjusting the speed, direction and brightness of the keyboard backlight effects.

Macros can also be programmed. It is also worth adding that all functions such as RGB lighting, macros and controls are available when using the SK621 via Bluetooth connection. The wireless keyboard's battery life is also impressive. It may take a couple of full business days before the light turns red, indicating that the battery is low. Charging the SK621 wireless keyboard is also easy. Just connect your keyboard via USB Type-C. The keyboard can still be used as a wired keyboard as long as the cable charges the keyboard's battery.

The keyboard's body is crafted from polished aluminum, making it lightweight, durable, and provides a premium appearance. There's also a nice sleek aluminum edge accent that adds a touch of elegance. The keys are made of plastic and don't have much texture.

Low-profile Cherry MX keys are quiet enough for office use. The key switches are incredibly sensitive and using the Cooler Master SK621 Wireless Keyboard takes some practice. This is because the keys register key presses to within a millimeter or less.

The SK621 keyboard is designed to be compact and quite portable. A nice addition is the velvet bag. It's definitely made for gaming thanks to its Cherry MX keys, but it's easy to use for work.

The Cooler Master SK621 does everything it's designed to do. However, the keys are great for gaming but are too sensitive for typing. Plastic keys are also prone to oil stains on your fingers, so eating while gaming can be difficult. Perhaps if the keys had some kind of oil-resistant coating or more texture, the oil marks wouldn't be as pronounced.

Features of the Cooler Master SK621 wireless keyboard:

Brushed aluminum body design;

Featuring a flat, brushed aluminum keyboard top, floating keycaps, and a slim, minimalist body design.

Colored keyboard backlight (RGB LEDs);

Individually customizable LED key backlighting and surrounding LED ring.

Hybrid wired and wireless;

Connect up to three devices via wireless technology Bluetooth 4.0 or wired connection and charging the battery at the same time.

Minimum keyboard layout by 60%;

We can say that this wireless mini keyboard has a unique design for maximum portability.

Easy to use software.

Low profile Cherry MX keys;

The reduced travel distance and actuation point performs with equal durability and accuracy (according to the wireless keyboard manufacturer).

Available controls;

In real time, you can customize keyboard backlighting and macros without the need for software.

Summary of the Cooler Master SK621 wireless keyboard:

Overall, electrical and keyboard maker Cooler Master exceeded all expectations. It's especially impressive because it can make a really interesting wireless keyboard. The SK621 model has a variety of lighting effects and individual settings, has a compact design and a lot of user-friendly functions. Using the SK621 at work and then bringing it home for gaming could make it a favorite wireless keyboard for the price of nearly $200.

ETH Zurich has unveiled details of "Concrete Choreography", an installation that recently opened in Riom, Switzerland. The innovative installation features the first robotically constructed 3D printed concrete stage, consisting of formless columns 3D printed to full height in 2.5 hours. The process is expected to significantly improve the efficiency of concrete structures while achieving the fabrication of complex material components and construction robots.

3D printing news: ETH Zurich creates concrete columns using a special 3D concrete printer.

In Riom, Switzerland, the Origen festival features nine 2.7-meter-high columns. Each column is 3D printed concrete. The new columns were individually designed using custom software and manufactured using a new automated concrete 3D printing process developed by the ETH Zurich team with support from NCCR DFAB.

MSc Digital Fabrication and Architecture students explore the unique capabilities of multi-layer extrusion printing, demonstrating the potential of computer-aided design and digital fabrication for the future of concrete construction. Perhaps the construction industry this process in the future it will become more environmentally friendly if they develop new eco-concrete for 3D printing.

Video review of 3D concrete printing: Concrete choreography.

This is how easy and fast 3D concrete printing works.

3D printing of houses and buildings made of concrete is a prospect for construction.

Hollow concrete structures are printed for strategic use materials, providing a more sustainable approach to a specific architecture. Additionally, the calculated material structure and surface textures are an example of the versatility and significant aesthetic potential of 3D concrete printing when used in large-scale structures.

The new review will be about printing on a 3D printer with metal.

It is worth noting that there is technology to carry out 3D printing with metal. This is also a promising direction for construction, but for this, other materials are used (for example, powder), programs and other types of printers (which we will talk about soon).

What color is your mobile phone? Is it black, red, white, gold or blue? Most likely, the back of your phone has some kind of solid color option that you will find in a coloring book for beginners. It has taken too long for most phone manufacturers to realize that phone colors actually matter to consumers, and it is only recently that they have started giving mobile phones not just a rarely used color, but fancy shades like coral red or canary green.

Honor News: With new 3D holographic color phones from Honor, it's possible to add a little new color to life.

It's no surprise that most people don't mind hiding the backs of their phones behind an opaque plastic case. In cases, the user can choose a suitable color for the phone case to give the mobile a little personality. But China's new Honor 20 Pro and Honor 20 series phones are the world's first smartphones with 3D dynamic holographic design, and their reflective appearance could become a new industry standard.

"Always better" is the company's motto. Perhaps this motto suggests that she refuses to follow the industry standard by simply experimenting with layers of paint with each new phone model.

Color 3D holography for the phone case.

In order for the phone body to achieve a shimmering optical illusion, the manufacturer Honor designed its Honor 20 model with a deep layer containing millions of shimmering microscopic prisms, and on top of this a so-called 3D curved glass layer is placed. The combination of these technologies causes the light to "play and dance" on the back of the phone as the user turns it in different directions.

Two colors for the Honor 20 phone can be found under these dynamic layers, Midnight Black and Sapphire Blue. Unlike the newfangled phrases for some phone colors, Honor mobile has color gradients for phones that actually evoke the effect of a shimmering night sky or a shimmering jewel.

While the color options sound exciting, you can go even further with the Chinese Honor 20 Pro phone. This upgraded model features the signature "Triple 3D Mesh" containing three layers. Instead of just painting back panel The phone itself, this time with a body-colored layer, sits between the outer 3D layer and the inner depth layer. According to the phone maker, this makes color shifting effects much more dynamic.

The Honor 20 Pro mobile phone is actively sold in two colors such as Phantom Black and Phantom Blue. Although the names of these phone colors are not so metaphorical, do not think that their rear panels are less dynamic.

Honor's obsession with choosing the right colors may seem overly dramatic, but in the UK, for example, a survey of hundreds of Brits found that forty-nine percent of them consider color when choosing a phone to buy.

Why is a phone with a changing color scheme being sold?

Choosing a mobile phone, as Honor designer Jun-Soo Kim puts it, is “Extending human life.” Essentially, Honor is saying that customer identity cannot be captured in one unchanging color.

The history of the creation of Honor color phones.

The Honor 20 represents a natural evolution of the company's experimentation with dynamic color in phone design. The Honor 8 model started the trend of a 2.5D multi-layer back wall, which creates a 3D lattice effect. Then the Honor 9 version turned into a phone with a curved 3D glass, echoes of which can already be found in the Honor 20 model. Well, last year, the Honor 10 model was equipped with an Aurora rear glass that reflected colors from all sides.

What is the screen like on an Honor phone?

Honor's design innovations don't stop at the color of the phone's body. It is worth paying attention to the location Honor cameras 20. Instead of cropping the screen to make room for the “selfie” camera. The phone maker has cut a 4.5mm hole in the top left corner of the screen, thereby leaving more screen space for the user's needs.

Camera with artificial intelligence or AI camera in your phone.

According to the description of the phone, it is worth noting that on the back of the device, the Honor 20 AI camera has four lenses and is located so as to leave more space for a battery with more memory. But most importantly, the result is a 48-megapixel camera that uses the Kirin 980 AI microchip to take DSLR-quality photos and enhance photos.

Summary of Honor phone color.

Bottom line, phone descriptions, technical compatibility and cutting-edge hardware innovations are what usually attract attention to Chinese Honor phones. But in this case, the technology is almost overshadowed by the uniquely colored body design, which may make some users reluctant to go back to simple 2D phone body colors in the future.

Reasons for rumors about the release of a mobile phone continue to arise. Google phone Pixel 4. New set information or predictions comes from a leaked image (3D rendering of colored hulls) on the Internet, which is believed to refer to Google Pixel 4. There are often cases when users who follow the topic of new products lose attention to such images. Meanwhile, for some analysts new picture It helps to make a few assumptions about more than just the color of the phone.

A new unofficial image of the Google Pixel 4 is sparking rumors about color options for the mobile phone's body.

While another image of the phone body itself doesn't seem to show more than what was previously discussed online, the model seen in the background of the photo raises eyebrows due to its color. That mobile phone has a shade of purple that the Pixel model didn't have before.

Elsewhere, there have been other leaks of the same Google Pixel 4 with "three phones" (variants) stacked in a row. There are white and black colors, plus the third has a bluish tint, which some call mint green. Would you like to buy a blue phone? Probably the name of the phone colors will still be updated.

Whichever phone color leak is true or false, it's safe to assume that this year new Google Pixel 4 will definitely have additional color. What's even more interesting is that in the image, the physical buttons on the sides of the phones contrast with the color of the body. You can see white, blue and yellow buttons which give the phone a fun look.

For some strange reason, all the images and leaks seen so far have only shown the back panel of the Google Pixel 4 smartphone. As reported by various sources, it is alleged Google company shared a rendering of the phone, and there was also a part where the square camera bump appeared. The dual camera unit was visible.

The leaked photos being discussed, including the image along with the cases, show the back panel in different colors and the camera module. What do you think? better color phone?

About specifications Google Pixel 4:

Obviously, the idea of a fingerprint scanner is not leaving fans alone. Some people want the phone to either have Face ID to unlock the phone, or an in-display fingerprint scanner, or both.

Some other aspects and specifications, such as the dimensions of the phones and the overall thickness being 8.2 millimeters higher compared to the 7.9 mm seen in the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, can be taken as close to reality.

There is speculation that the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL versions of the phone may be more like the "Apple iPhone 11" variant that is scheduled to release in a couple of months in the fall. When, exactly? Technology company Google has not yet announced official date release of the Pixel 4, but various sources hint at the release of the new phone at the end of October.

We'll tell you more about this soon, so stay tuned for news about new smartphones from Google.

The robot set a world record for solving a Rubik's Cube. This robot was developed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) students Jared Di Carlo and Ben Katz in a student laboratory. For comparison, the fastest human record is held by Australian Felix Zemdegs, who solved the Rubik's Cube in just 4.22 seconds in 2018. By the way, the original size Rubik's Cube has 43 quintillion possible combinations for one solution. Watch the video of the record-breaking robot below.

Robotics news: MIT's nimble Robot solves a Rubik's Cube in a world record time of 0.38 seconds.

Many people have a special place in their hearts for the Rubik's Cube. This is a good workout for the intellect. Many people loved or still love to play with this ingenious toy, and over the years there have been many competitions, challenges and variations to solve the Rubik's Cube.

The popularity of the Rubik's Cube can be attributed to the simplicity of its design combined with the mind-boggling complexity of the puzzle.

New record for solving a Rubik's Cube 3x3x3.

Engineers and hobbyists have been using robots to solve Rubik's Cubes for years. 10 seconds used to be considered a quick assembly, but by today's digital age standards, that's a time that makes you smile.

It was only a matter of time before engineers and roboticists began to tackle the challenge of creating a new robot. Back in 2016, the robot set a new record for solving a Rubik's Cube in 0.637 seconds. But for some enthusiasts, that time wasn't fast enough.

Just recently, two MIT students, Jared Di Carlo (a third-year electrical engineering and computer science student) and Ben Katz (a mechanical engineering graduate student), thought they could build a faster robot that could solve a 3D combination puzzle.

They watched videos of previous robots, and noticed that the robots' motors were not the fastest that could be used to solve the problem. So they thought they could do better with better engines and controls.

How a robot solves a Rubik's Cube

Students installed an electronically controlled motor that powers each face of the Rubik's Cube. Using a pair of web cameras pointed at the cube, special software determines the initial state of each side of the cube (which colors are on which side of the cube at a given time). Then, based on the information received, using existing software for solving the Rubik's Cube, the robot solves the puzzles using an algorithm.

What is the result of the work? Their robot solved a Rubik's Cube in 0.38 seconds! It is safe to say that no person is physically capable of breaking the record for this speed. We can add another achievement to the list of robots surpassing humans.

There is a man who holds the fastest world record for hand assembly, his name is Felix Zemdegs. He was able to solve the Rubik's Cube in 4.22 seconds. The skills and talents that robots are replacing are vast and varied, to say the least. Not to mention that robots can still surprise. Next is a video demonstration of the robot.

Video review of assembling a Rubik's Cube in 0.38 seconds:

Just like that, hardware hackers Ben Katz and Jared Di Carlo broke the previous record for robotically solving a Rubik's Cube. Their robot solved the puzzle 40 percent faster than the previous record.

Details about the record-breaking robot

The robotic device is assembled from motors from the Kollmorgen ServoDisc U9 series, PlayStation Eye cameras (for scanning the cube) and, of course, a Rubik's Cube was needed. According to the creators of the robot, “The whole software process takes about 45 milliseconds. Most of the time is spent waiting for the webcam driver and determining the colors on the sides of the Rubik's Cube."

Facebook Inc. Artificial Intelligence Research Group. introduced a new robotics platform called PyRobot. This platform (framework) was developed jointly with researchers from Carnegie Mellon University. PyRobot is designed to help AI researchers and students integrate deep learning models built using the PyTorch platform (a machine learning library for the language Python programming), with the robots they create. The basic idea is that they can create their robots more easily by using artificial intelligence skills such as natural language processing.

News from the world of robots with AI (AI): Facebook introduces a platform for robotics PyRobot is an open-source framework source code for controlling robots.

Facebook said it wants to promote long-term robotics research to help develop embedded artificial intelligence systems that can learn more efficiently by interacting with the physical world.

Previously, to stimulate the production of artificial intelligence models, the company introduced PyTorch Hub.

What is PyRobot today

PyRobot is a lightweight, high-level interface that provides independent hardware APIs for robotic manipulation and navigation. The PyRobot repository also contains a low-level stack for LoCoBot, a low-cost mobile manipulator hardware platform (robot assembly toolkit). Now artificial intelligence and machine learning are becoming more accessible to those new to robotics.

Research supervisor Abinav Gupta and Saurabh Gupta, as a research fellow at Facebook, explained in a blog post that: PyRobot is a lightweight, high-level interface on top of the robot's operating system. It provides a consistent set of hardware-independent middle-level APIs (application programming interfaces) for controlling a variety of robots. PyRobot abstracts away controller details low level and interprocess communication, so machine learning specialists and others can simply focus on building high-level AI (artificial intelligence) robotics applications.

Facebook's source also says PyRobot has dozens of potential applications, such as helping researchers share data and set benchmarks and build on each other's work. The company solicited proposals from the broader AI research community on how to democratize robotics using LoCoBot and PyRobot, which are hardware specifications and tools for building low-cost robots.

PyRobot works with using the API to abstract the functions that robots need to use. Perform tasks such as kinematics, path planning, position, speed and torque control for joints, and visual simultaneous localization and mapping. PyRobot comes with a number of pre-trained deep learning models that allow robots to navigate, grasp objects, and more.

This means developers can program their robots using just a few lines of Python code, Facebook says.

Facebook researchers also say that: The cost of hardware and the complexity of specialized software limit the scope of robotics research. With lower barriers to entry, researchers can, for example, build multiple robots that collect data and learn in parallel. Providing a common platform for various equipment. PyRobot will lead to the development of benchmarks in robotics, similar to other areas in AI, and will quantify the pace of progress in AI robotics.

Like Amazon's RoboMaker, PyRobot runs as an interface on top of the robot operating system (ROS), extending the infrastructure. In May technological Microsoft company released a set of robotics tools with a limited preview, and last year integrated the ROS platform into Windows 10.

Famous analyst and author of forecasts on Apple smartphones, Ming-Chi Kuo may certainly be the most reliable source of leaks and information about Apple products. And today he released a new research report, obtained by Mac Rumors, where he mentions the future of the iPhone and when we can expect Apple to finally switch to 5G (fifth generation mobile communications) smartphones.

Rumors and technology news: Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts Apple will release 5G iPhone in 2020

Back when Apple was still planning to use Intel modems in its iPhones, there were rumors that the "iPhone 2020" phone model would be the first to receive 5G support. However, the Apple company has since switched from its modem supplier to Qualcomm. For which they had to settle a long patent dispute with an American chip manufacturer, pay at least 4.5 billion dollars and not use Intel modems. Intel may even have shut down its 5G plans after this news.

According to a note by analyst Kuo Ming-Chi, the development new version mobile iPhone phone 5G is right on schedule. Allegedly, we will see Apple announce iPhone release 5G in 2020. Kuo's note also mentions that both the 5.4-inch iPhone model and the 6.7-inch iPhone model will have a 5G modem. There is a hint of something iPhone update XS and iPhone XS Max smartphones.

Ming-Chi Kuo also said that all three iPhone models in 2020 will come in multiple colors and feature an OLED screen, as opposed to the LCD screen on the current iPhone XR. However, we'll probably still get an iPhone XR upgrade with an LCD display this year, so if an OLED screen in a mobile is too much of a deal for you, maybe wait a year.

5G iPhone competitors:

Currently our best Android competitors are the following 5G phones:

1) Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G (128 GB memory, 6 GB RAM and battery with fast charging);

2) OPPO Reno 5G (innovative design, affordable price, powerful camera);

3) LG V50 ThinQ (screen 1440 by 3120 pixels, memory expansion up to 1 TB, 4000 mAh battery);

4) OnePlus 7 Pro 5G (frameless AMOLED screen has no notches or holes);

5) ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G (48 megapixel camera, Snapdragon 855 chip).

Global sales of 5G phones.

Global supplies to stores of mobile phones supporting 5G technology (this is fast mobile connection fifth generation) may be higher than market analysts' expectations. It is worth noting that some reviewers mobile market believe that such supplies, with high probability, could reach 150 - 200 million units or more than a dozen percent of global 5G phone shipments next year.

After many rumors in the cryptocurrency market news. On Tuesday, Facebook unveiled plans for the next year, including the ambitious release of a new digital currency called Libra. It will be managed by an association consisting of corporate investors. Payment companies Visa, Mercado Pago, PayPal, Mastercard and Stripe are partners. Technology companies Uber, eBay, Spotify and Lyft are joining the project. European telecommunications companies Vodafone and Iliad are also involved in the new project. Investors Union Square Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz, plus academic, non-profit institutions Womens World Banking and Kiva.

Facebook has unveiled a new project called Calibra, a digital wallet for storing and sending Libra “crypto coins.”

Billions of people are expected to be able to make payments using cryptocurrency from social media giant Facebook through their mobile apps. The social network Facebook plans to officially launch a new cryptocurrency project, Libra, in 2020. Libra is new type digital money, which is intended for billions of people using mobile applications and the social network.

Popular social network Facebook has more news for the world of cryptocurrency.

That a new digital wallet would be created that would allow Facebook app users to store and exchange cryptocurrency. Facebook is creating a new subsidiary, Calibra.

Why is Facebook betting on a cryptocurrency called Libra? Perhaps a high goal the latest development, go beyond social networks.

Digital wallets for storing, sending and spending Libra cryptocurrency will be connected to messaging platforms.

Initially, the cryptocurrency will be available in the application Facebook Messenger/ WhatsApp, and of course in separate applications for iOS or Android.

Facebook said in a press release that: “Initially, Calibra will make it easy and instant to send Libra at a low cost to virtually anyone with a smartphone.”

It is also reported that: “Over time, it will be offered Additional services for businesses and people. For example, buying a cup of coffee with a scanned code, paying a bill with the click of a button, traveling on public transport without having to carry cash."

Security of the Facebook cryptocurrency wallet.

To improve the security of the new cryptocurrency, it will use similar verification and fraud protection features that are already used by credit cards and banks. Facebook's cryptocurrency service will have user support. And in case of gaining access to account user of someone else, the promise of compensation for lost assets is promised.

Cryptocurrency coins will be stored by users in a digital wallet. But the world of cryptocurrency itself is not always stable! Time will tell if Facebook's own digital money will help people save money by sending and spending it as easily as sending text messages.

The cryptocurrency will be managed by the founding members: Facebook, more than two dozen different organizations and a separate Swiss foundation.

Why Libra?

What does the word Libra mean?

Former PayPal executive David Marcus, who heads the Facebook project, said something like this: "The choice of the name Libra (Libra) was inspired by several reasons, namely the French word for Liberty, the Roman measurement of weight, the astrological sign of justice."

Technology and Design News: Insanely beautiful iPhone 11 concept with innovative, colorful, curved screen.

Technology giant Apple will release iPhone 11 this coming September. If all sorts of rumors turn out to be true, then the multimedia phone could have the same design as the last two generations of the phone. Regarding the final design of the iPhone 11, we are ready to accept what Apple designers come up with. But, we can't stop imagining what could be if technology allowed us to create any design for the iPhone 11. And that's exactly what some very talented designers are doing. This time around, there's a beautiful iPhone 11 concept that ditches all the buttons in favor of an immersive curved phone screen.

The implementation of such a design results in an iPhone with a beautiful glowing strip that stretches along the entire mobile phone and replaces the physical volume rocker buttons and the power button. Using this design philosophy allows you to get an iPhone with on-screen icons on the side.

While it may be a good looking phone, there is absolutely no chance of the concept becoming a reality. In addition, protecting such a phone with a case seems impossible, since by covering the screen space the case will take away some of its basic functions. Imagine that if a phone like this were accidentally dropped on the ground, the cost of repairing a curved screen would be higher for the user than with a classic screen option.

We hope the new iPhone 11 will have a bright screen under the sun.

The 2019 iPhone 11 lineup is expected to feature three models, just like last year. There will probably be two OLED phones and one with an LCD screen. The iPhone 11 and 11 Max models may have a variety of OLED screens, and also have screen sizes of 5.8 and 6.5 inches, respectively. Perhaps the iPhone 11R model will be equipped with an LCD display to reduce the price to a minimum.

It is also expected that new iPhone versions The 11 and 11 Max will have a triple camera configuration, while the iPhone 11R version is expected to feature a dual camera setup. Essentially this means that on all three mobile phones There may be an additional camera on the back.

The front of the iPhone 11 lineup is expected to remain the same and there will be no difference in the size of the notch. However, recent reports claim that there may be improved face identification that will be able to authenticate a user at some extreme angles.

Positioning

Sony has chosen a six-month pace of updating its flagships, unlike all major manufacturers, which can only afford to release flagships once a year. With such a rate of release of new models, one cannot expect that the number of changes will be large; each subsequent device will be perceived as a slightly improved version of the previous one. If you read reviews of the Sony Xperia Z2, most of them call the device a work on the bugs of the Z1, which is quite logical. Top ten Sony reviews Xperia Z3 uses the same concept - bug fixes, corrected version of Z2. I am sure that in January 2014, if Sony does not change anything in its approach, we will see feedback that the Z4 is also a work in progress. For Sony, this becomes a serious problem, since such a perception makes sales of the flagships of the Z line difficult, and the release of new models leads to lower prices for old ones, making them more profitable. It’s curious that Sony unwittingly created more than just a headache for itself - the company, with its flagship release schedule, has formed a whole galaxy of those who are waiting for prices for previous models to drop and choose them.

Given the relatively identical characteristics of the models, the promiscuity of buyers and the selection of goods from the shelf, the same design is already becoming a problem. But for Sony Z2 and Z3 we can also talk about comparable characteristics; the buyer in the store does not realize the difference between these devices, he simply does not see them. But he will feel the difference in price of 5,000 rubles and the fact that the Z3 package is noticeably poorer.

Sony is in the grip of its own choice - they need to release a flagship every six months. Sales of the Z line have long been minimal, the device is a competitor to the same Samsung Galaxy S5, but while the first Z was sold in small but noticeable quantities, the same Z2 dropped to minimal volumes (the reasons are described above). In Russia, the sales ratio of Z2 to Galaxy S5 is 1 to 12. And here we come to the conclusion that when releasing new flagship, Sony cannot position it higher than the market and other models that are present on it, for example, the same Galaxy S5, which is the leader in the segment.

Compared to Samsung Galaxy S5

It becomes vital for a company to achieve the minimum cost for its product - therefore, a proven solution is used, reducing the scope of delivery. The Sony Z2 came with branded headphones with a noise reduction system along with the phone, which were of high quality and separately cost about 1,700-2,000 rubles. And this was a serious plus, an argument in favor of the Z2.

In the Z3 they were removed from the package for Russia; the savings for the manufacturer are noticeable and quite justified in the struggle for price on the shelf. It is interesting that a similar approach was used in later deliveries of Z2 - in Svyaznoy at a price of 24,990 rubles you can find Z2 sets both with and without headphones. The black device is sold without headphones, which is perceived by many as an initiative of the retail chain; there are often comments from those who purchased such a phone that, apparently, the sellers stole the headset. But this is just a kit that was created in the struggle for efficiency.

Sony discussed the possibility of putting the Z3 on the shelf for 32,990 rubles, but retail chains dissuaded the company from this step and did it quite sensibly. Few people will be interested in the package, the initial price will scare them away, as was the case with HTC with the flagship HTC One M8, which is excellent in terms of performance, but is not popular, its sales are similar to the Z2.

In 2014, Sony consistently misses the mark in terms of time to market. For example, Sony Z2 was supposed to be released earlier than the flagships of other companies, but it turned out the other way around. With the Z3, everything is going according to plan, but the model is not perceived as something new, and hence there are many different problems; the volume of its purchases by distributors is minimal. But the most important thing is that such products are perceived only by those who remain loyal to the Sony brand; this is a small audience that continues to buy Sony devices in different segments, adherents of Sony Style. It is impossible to say that Sony plays in the mass market, comparable to other manufacturers. Of the successful products of 2014, I’ll highlight the Compact series, which had an impact on the market, but everything else passed by and did not attract the attention of the general public. In this aspect, the Z3 becomes exactly the same device, and a number of fans of the brand who previously purchased Z/Z1/Z2 say that they see no reason to change their devices to a new product. This trend is observed not only for Sony, new products from all companies are perceived critically by customers, they do not see much difference with their current devices, but for Sony this is much more pronounced.

The bottom line is that we have the Z3 model, which is positioned as a flagship and is such for a small audience of Sony fans. To say that this is a device for mass market, it is forbidden. Moreover, with the release of this model, the attractiveness of previous devices is growing, and Sony is partly to blame for this, which has worsened a number of characteristics in its flagship. Let's figure out in order what has changed.

Design, dimensions, control elements

Externally, the device has hardly changed, you look at it and see the same Sony Xperia Z2.

Sony Xperia Z2 and Z3

Phone dimensions – 146x72x7.3 mm, weight – 152 grams (Z2 – 146.8x73.3x8.2 mm, 158 grams). The side edges have been made rounded, the metal frame is no longer rectangular, and the device fits very well in the hand. But this also brings another problem: it is much more difficult to lift it from a flat surface; your fingers slide along the side edge, you have to spread them out in the shape of a crab and grab the phone.

Compared to Samsung Galaxy Note 3

In addition to changing the outer frame, Sony has almost completely redesigned the body design, which may not be noticeable and which an inattentive person will definitely not notice. Let me start with the fact that in the Z2 review I said that the device has a rather fragile inside due to its design - when dropped, the shock is transferred to the internal board, and the electronics quickly die. It happens that the glass does not crack, but the electronics fail. The Z3 has plastic inserts on the corners and is painted to match the color of the body. This does not mean that the phone has become shockproof; rather, it has received additional protection from falls. This approach can only be welcomed; similar inserts will be used on many models with a frame body design from Sony.

The model is available in four colors – white, copper, black and emerald.

Let's return to the changes in the design - one of the weak points in the Sony Z1/Z2 was sea water - the salt corroded the plugs, and despite supporting the IP58 protection standard, it was definitely not worth swimming with these phones in the sea. Protection was from fresh water. The Z3 tried to correct this shortcoming; to do this, they changed the characteristics of the rubber inserts that are on all connectors. This even made it possible for the Z3 to receive an IP65/IP68 protection standard - that is, dust protection has increased, all connectors are covered more tightly, and at the same time the location of the microphones has been changed. There are no holes at the bottom end; the microphone is hidden behind the grille of the bottom speaker; both the speaker and the microphone are covered by one membrane. The second microphone is located at the top end, it is located next to the 3.5 connector.

You can swim with this device in fresh water without worry, especially if you close the caps before diving. In real life, the device is quite slippery, on par with the iPhone 6, but better due to its larger size. In water it stops being slippery, I noticed this even during tests of the Z2, when I swam with it in the pool.

The front panel, as well as the back, is made of DragonTrail glass, it is no different from the second generation Corning Gorilla Glass, but less promoted, is actually an analogue. The oleophobic coating is rated C, which is typical - hand marks remain with ease. This is not always visible in the sun or light, especially if your device is not black.

On the left side there is a microUSB connector, it is covered with a cap. On right side Behind the wide flap is a connector for nanoSIM, it is in a plastic tray, and there is also a slot for a microSD memory card.

Above the screen, where the speaker grill is, there is a light indicator - it is wide and can blink in red, blue and green. You can turn it off in the settings, but I really like it, as it gives the device a certain charm. This is a typical Sony Style element. On the front surface you can see the front camera, the proximity sensor is hidden behind the glass and cannot be seen.

This model has no complaints about the build quality - there are no noticeable gaps, the glass does not fit tightly to the metal frame everywhere, this is not a defect, but a feature of the device so that it does not break when dropped. But the gaps are minimal, it’s almost impossible to see them without looking closely. In the same Z2 they were noticeably larger.

Display

The technical characteristics of the screen in the Z3 are the same as in the Z2: 5.2 inches, resolution – 1920x1080 pixels (423 dpi versus 440 in the Z1). The screen uses the famously named Triluminos technology, which suggests that the picture has better RGB coverage than conventional LCD screens. In theory, this is true, in practice there are certain flaws. An explanation of the technology can be seen in a promotional video from Sony.

Also in connection with this device, Live Color Led technology is often mentioned, which, in fact, is responsible for the color gamut, which is somewhat misleading to the user - these names make your head spin. From a marketing point of view, it is noted that the red and green subpixels are made using phosphorus, which improves the quality color gamut, colors look saturated.

One of the main problems with the Z2 for the screen was that it distorted the colors - it made them bright, but they were not reliable. Built-in configuration tool color profiles turned the picture completely indigestible, it was not worth using. It turned out that a good screen, due to shortcomings in technology, did not give out the maximum of what it was capable of. The Z3 tried to overcome this problem, but it didn’t work out very well - the colors are still distorted, fine tuning doesn't work in the menu. Separately, I want to emphasize that for most people this does not play any role - they will find the screen good.

You can find a comparison of the Z2 screen with other devices at this link.

The Z3 has changed the way the picture is analyzed; each point can change the brightness of the backlight, which creates a more reliable picture in different lighting conditions. It was not possible to notice an improvement in the picture; in the sun the previous device behaved well, although there was clearly not enough brightness here, it had to be turned up to maximum, there was no reserve.

The Z3 decided to solve this problem and increased the screen brightness by 20 percent (650 cd/m2 maximum value with manual adjustment). Now the device is quite comparable with other flagships of 2014, there are no complaints about this characteristic. This improves the viewing experience of the screen both indoors and outdoors, and information is easy to read.

The settings include a mode for working with gloves; you can set a mode for working with wet hands.

In the Z2 review, I called the device's screen not ideal, but for Sony it was an obvious breakthrough - the abandonment of unnecessary film, improved quality, but the presence of such drawbacks as insufficient brightness and poor color rendition. The Z3 got rid of one of the shortcomings, now the screen is bright, they tried to play with color reproduction, but the result was not too different from the previous model. We are waiting for the Z4, in which the company will try to correct this defect again. As mentioned, this is a continuous work on bugs.

Battery

The phone has a lithium-polymer battery with a capacity of 3100 mAh (Z2 has 3200 mAh). For a flagship, this battery capacity is excellent, it is quite comparable to Note 3/4, however, these devices are similar in operating time.

In the description of this device, Sony says that it is capable of providing two days of full operation, with up to 5 hours a day active work. Unfortunately, the methodology is not given, but here is a screenshot from the company’s website.

My first impression of the battery was fantastic - it lasted a very long time in standby mode, I inserted a card and barely used the phone, and it barely drained.

When I began to actively use the device, it showed slightly better results than the Z2, but nothing fantastic happened. The reason is that Qualcomm has worked on the energy saving of the processor, and in standby mode the device consumes almost nothing. That is, in fact, one processor core operates at a very low frequency. They conjured a wonderful spell; in standby mode the device works just fine.

But in normal modes a miracle did not happen; it’s not so much the processor that affects it, but the brightness of the screen backlight and your settings. Considering that the brightness of the screen has increased, the consumption has also become slightly higher, which neutralizes all the chipset settings.

So, the video viewing time is the standard 10 hours (without sound or with headphones). The declared operating time in talk mode is up to 16 hours, in standby mode – up to 920 hours (for the previous model – 740 hours). Music playback time is up to 130 hours.

In practice, the phone showed excellent results, it performs at the level of Galaxy Note 3/4, depending on the load. You can easily count on one day of work with active use or two days of work with moderate use. If you don't use your phone, it will last much longer.

Full charging time (2A charger) is about 3 hours to one hundred percent. Up to 90 percent will be enough in just over 2 hours. From my observations, the device is very sensitive to the quality of the network and its coverage; if you have data transmission and the network is not of very high quality, then the discharge will go faster than on other phones. But if the network is good, then the operating time, on the contrary, will increase. In any case, this device differs in operating time compared to its classmates (Galaxy S5, HTC One M8), beats them and is comparable only to Note 3.

In my opinion, this phone can be recommended to anyone who wants to quietly live until the evening without charging during the day; this is a huge plus of the model. From branded chips I would like to note the opportunity to see approximately how long the device will work in the selected mode; there is also a Stamina function, which increases the operating time by disabling data transfer to background, unloading applications from memory and so on. This is a lifesaver if you need to hold out until the outlet appears. In principle, the function works, although there are some rough edges in the implementation. Most people don’t use it, especially since this device will rarely need it.

There is an intelligent mode when charging, then you can change profile settings and the like.

Memory, memory cards

The phone has 3 GB of RAM (933 MHz, dual channel), which is unusual for models of this level; until recently, only Note 3 could boast of this, and the Galaxy S5 had only 2 GB. Simply increasing the amount of RAM does not solve anything; it all depends on how it works with the processor and what the overall system performance is. Below in the tests it will be clear that the memory increase did not provide a breakthrough in performance. After startup, about 1 GB of RAM is free.

The built-in memory is 16 GB, of which 11.57 GB is free for you, this can be considered a sufficient amount and typical for Android smartphones. You can connect memory cards of any capacity (up to 128 GB), which is also not bad.

Hardware platform, performance

The model is built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974AC) chipset; it is a quad-core processor with a frequency of up to 2.5 GHz per core. This is a different version of the processor, a slightly upgraded version than the Sony Z2, but there is not much difference. In synthetic tests, the performance of this solution is higher than that of its predecessor, as well as its competitors, but the difference is very insignificant.

In real life, when working in the interface, the difference is almost unnoticeable; if it exists, it is minimal. Some say Sony is faster, others say Galaxy S5, and others praise HTC ONE M8. As for me, they are all approximately comparable and the difference can only be felt in individual applications, and then it will be measured in fractions of a second.

In resource-intensive applications (games, 4K video recording), the device heats up, due to the glass of the case this is more noticeable than in the same HTC M8 or Galaxy S5, where the heat is not so strongly felt on the surface of the case. Sony has already responded to this complaint and suggested not shooting 4K video for more than a few minutes, since then overheating can cause applications to spontaneously close, plus the camera will turn off automatically.

Unlike the Z2, the reduced processor frequency in most cases makes warming up almost impossible; the device heats up, but not as much as its predecessor. This can only be noticed when the camera is working; in other modes and even in games it is not so noticeable.

Communication capabilities

The device has NFC, which has already become a good tradition, Bluetooth version 4.0 with ANT+ support. The microUSB connector supports the MHL v3.0 standard, which allows you to output video to external sources. USB 2.0 version, USB Host supported. LTE Cat 4 support, download speed up to 150 Mbit/s. Wi-Fi version – a/b/n/ac.

Camera

Despite the fact that it is written on the body that this is a 20.7-megapixel module and a 1/2.3-inch matrix, the EXMOR RS module itself has been redesigned, plus the optical group has changed, it has been simplified and made wide-angle. It is clear that Sony tried to achieve the same image quality as on previous devices, while reducing the cost of the matrix and simplifying its production. I haven’t made a direct comparison with the Z2/Z1, but according to subjective impressions, the only advantage is that it’s quite noisy shooting in night mode (ISO 12800 versus ISO 6400 in Z2 - achievable only in automatic mode shooting, manual selection is not available).

There is a camera button on the body of the device; when pressed, the automatic shooting mode is always selected, in which the resolution is set to 8 megapixels. If you want to take a picture in manual mode and maximum resolution, then you need to select the appropriate item in the menu. This is terribly inconvenient, but exactly the same approach was in previous models. Look at the difference in pictures when shooting in automatic and manual modes.

Auto Manual

The camera interface has not undergone major changes, everything is quite simple and clear.

Check out the camera shots, as well as comparisons with the Galaxy S5.

Among the new modes, it is worth noting the simultaneous shooting from the cameras of two devices (“Multi-Camera” mode), in which you can connect another device to the phone and receive pictures simultaneously from two cameras.

Just like in previous models, there is an AR Effects option, these are drawings that are superimposed on a photo in real time, you can create a background of flowers or something similar - a great option for entertainment, however, the same can be done in any graphic editor .

TimeShift Video – high frequency frames and slow motion effects may be of interest to some, especially when filming sports events.

Defocusing the background is implemented quite controversially - you adjust the focus with the slider, then there is blur, you can choose the geometry of this blur.

Artistic effects are a whole range of different effects, each of which can be applied to a photograph. Also replaces graphics editor, but usually they don’t use effects, since they spoil the original photo; it’s easier to edit it than to get a modified photo.

Info-eye - the ability to point the camera at a famous building or something similar and get a quick hint about what it is. Explicit borrowing from the Googgles program.

For those who want to upload photos and videos to the network, there is a proprietary PlayMemories service, also familiar from cameras. You can set downloading only via Wi-Fi, but I prefer to use DropBox for these purposes, it is more convenient.

Videos can be recorded in FullHD, the quality of video recording is not bad, there are no complaints here.

I can’t say that the camera in the Z3 has become noticeably worse than in the Z2 - they are slightly different, but this, in principle, is normal for cameras and the perception of images from them. In automatic mode, the Z3 produces very good 8-megapixel images, which, like its predecessor, are liked by many people - this is above average quality among many devices, close to the best cameras on the market. No comparison with the Chinese, just head and shoulders above, regardless of the fact that they use Sony Exmor with similar or similar characteristics. For normal everyday use, this is an excellent camera; few people need to stretch pictures from mobile cameras to some standard of quality. This may seem like heresy, but the current generation of flagships is very close in its characteristics; the convenience of shooting and the quality of images in different conditions come to the fore. On a sunny day the Z3 is excellent, in the dark it is noisy, but this is an expected result. The bottom line is a good camera, which is quite at the level of its price segment.

Multimedia capabilities – sound, PS4 games

If the Z2 came with noise-cancelling headphones and a 5-pin connector, then the Z3 needs to be purchased separately. To fully experience the quality of music on this model, I tried the MDR-NC31EM noise-canceling headphones, as well as the regular Monster DNA.

Technically, previous models in the line could support Hi-Res Audio and Sony DSEE HX technology, which is used in Walkman players and can “finish” MP3 songs to high-quality sound, that is, it tries to restore lost frequencies. It doesn’t always work error-free, but for those who listen to MP3s of unknown quality and have not yet switched to lossless formats, this is a real opportunity to get high-quality sound on your phone.

Unfortunately, on third-party headphones the sound is not fully revealed, even if you take quite expensive models from Sony - it feels like the sound was optimized specifically for the 31st model, the phone sounds great in them. Having tried different headphones, I can say that they sound from good to very good on this model, but the 31s always win due to noise reduction, the sound is cleaner.

Sony was at the forefront of the music revolution in the phone market, and it was then that the Walkman brand was returned to the market and made sound quality important to millions of people. But if you pay attention, no one has been talking about this for the last few years. Cause? The sound of phones has reached its theoretical limit for large companies, and now either it is necessary to change DSP processors and move to another level, or be content with expanding the number of supported codecs. Sony took the second route, also adding a perfect pairing with headphones, and this is a winning strategy. The only pity is that now you have to buy headphones separately, they are not included.

For example, comparing the sound of the Z2 with Note 4, Galaxy S5 with third-party headphones, one cannot say that the Z2 has an advantage - the sound is quite comparable. But with branded headphones from Sony, everything changes dramatically. Therefore, it is worth remembering this when choosing the Z3 as a player - you should buy original headphones, which, however, will not suit everyone. And one more important point– if you purchase headphones of a higher class ($200 or more), you will not get a qualitative leap in the sound of the Z3, it will play about the same.

The Walkman player has a large number of settings and is familiar to all models from Sony.

Another feature that until recently was not found in phones from Sony is support for PS4 Remote Play. You can install the program on your phone, connect it to the DualShock4 joystick via Bluetooth and, by inserting the device into it, play the game on PS4 - sort of additional screen. That is, the picture, instead of your TV, will be broadcast to your phone - what is the point of this approach is absolutely unclear to me, this is a very far-fetched function. Why? Yes, because it’s more pleasant to play PS4 at home big screen, and why a small smartphone screen is needed is unclear to me. Of course, there are very limited use cases where this might be useful. But these are such rare cases that it’s not even worth remembering about them. Sony tried to create a feature, but it was not very successful.

Software

The device has Android 4.4.4, full description standard features and Xperia UI shells can be found in a separate material.

Among the new and unusual features, I would like to note the ability to make screencasts, that is, record videos of all actions on the screen - this function has been found on a number of phones from other manufacturers, but for Sony it appears here for the first time. Press the power key and select “screen recording” from the menu. You can also record a picture from the front camera, plus your voice is recorded.

Impression

The stereo speakers sound noticeably louder and better in this device than in the Z2. In terms of sound quality, the device is not bad, it is loud, conveys speech well during a conversation, and cuts out unnecessary noise. The vibration alert is average and can be skipped.

The Z3 model turned out to be interesting - the case has been greatly redesigned, the standard of protection against water has been increased, and the protection against falls has been strengthened (the device is still fragile, so this is relative). The camera was changed, but there was no significant or catastrophic deterioration in shooting quality. The screen has been noticeably improved in terms of backlight brightness, the colors still have the same problem, they are not very natural. And they also removed the sensor grid on the screen, it is now not visible - this could irritate someone in the Z2. They did a good job on the power saving mode and standby time.

In my opinion, the Z3 wins over the Z2 in almost everything, but both devices are not popular on the market; in the “Positioning” section I gave the sales ratio with the same Galaxy S5. This is systemic Sony problem, which concerns not only the quality of products in previous periods, the blurring of the customer base, but also the inability to highlight your strengths. These devices have Sony Style, they have their own characteristic and different face. But the irony is that traditional buyers of Sony smartphones are already fed up with them; the question is in appearance. And that’s why many people fall in love with the Z3 Compact, but don’t pay attention to the “simple” Z3.

With a price of 29,990 rubles and a very limited supply package, this device is five thousand rubles more expensive than the Z2. Despite the obvious advantages, it’s still worth buying the Z2, especially since it can be found cheaper, and if you buy the Asian version, you’ll also get a desktop charging stand. The real difference is 6,700 rubles, since it is worth taking into account the cost of the headset, which is included in the Z2 kit.

It is necessary and possible to compare this device with other flagships of the season, taking the same iPhone out of the equation; it exists in a different universe. I can hardly imagine a person who can choose between Sony or iPhone (in fact, I know only one - Sergei Kuzmin, by the way, many Sony Mobile employees carry an iPhone, and not only in Russia). You can see the comparison with the Galaxy S5 below.

Here everyone chooses their own, I would consider the Sony Z3 as an alternative not only to the S5, but also to the HTC One M8, these are products of the same level. Another thing is that the late release with a six-month cycle makes the Z3 more expensive than its competitors - the same S5 costs 28,000 rubles. In my opinion, this price segment this difference is not so critical.

The review turned out to be detailed, with all the “little things” that are important for this device. The choice, as always, is yours; our task was to talk about all the pitfalls, show the pros and cons of this decision.

This model has a version for two SIM cards (one radio module), while maintaining support for memory cards, perhaps someone will be interested in such a device.
