As many already know, latest version Windows isn't known for its privacy settings. Microsoft wants to collect all your private information.

Why this is needed, I will not discuss in this article. I'll leave that to your imagination. In any case, exchanging all your personal data for a new operating system is not very attractive.

There is a debate in the Russian State Duma about banning using Windows 10 in government, since license agreement violates the Russian law on the transfer of personal data. In fact, the distribution of the new OS in Russia is illegal.

What does this mean? They may simply oblige Internet providers to block access to the download site for the new OS.

If such a decision is made, then Microsoft's days in Russia will be numbered. Since providers are unlikely to figure out what traffic is used to download updates and what traffic is used to download a new OS. And they will stupidly block all traffic.

And without constant security patches, the already leaky OS will become even more dangerous. There are rumors that a new operating system will soon appear, which will be used in Russian government agencies.

And on this moment Apart from Linux, there is nothing for ordinary users. Console manufacturers will be delighted, and computer sellers in Russia will suffer huge losses.

And if you still decide to use Windows 10, then I will describe everything below necessary settings to protect your privacy as much as possible when using Windows 10.

1. Set up a local account and stop using account Microsoft.

If you are upgrading from Windows 7, then your local account is already set up and you don’t need to do anything. If in Windows 7 you had automatic login into the system, you will get the same after the update.

In the “reviews and diagnostics” section, set the reviews setting to “never” (as if they care about our reviews), and in the data we select “basic information”

3. Start - Settings - Windows Update - Advanced Settings - Select how and when to receive updates. Here we turn off updating from several places.

After all, everyone knows that Microsoft is actively fighting piracy and you may receive an “update” that will automatically remove unlicensed versions of programs from your computer.

I just laugh at this opportunity! And not just fly from the Internet, but also from local network. And it will delete everything on the local network, not just yours. Licensed viruses from Microsoft in action.

Why do you think they disabled the ability to download or not download updates, as was the case in previous versions? It loaded automatically and automatically deleted everything.

And because of constant bugs and jambs, you will be demolished “to the heap” and a couple of licensed ones. Have fun and enjoy!

4. Disable Cortana. It’s not relevant for the Russian version, but it will be necessary later.

5. Remove keylogger and other tracking systems. For those who are not in the know, keylogger is a spy program that records all your keyboard actions. Everything you typed will be “analyzed” by Microsoft. Ostensibly to improve the performance of Cortana and other services.

Click right click upon launch, in context menu select “command line administrator”

IN command line enter the following (can be copied)

sc delete DiagTrack

sc delete dmwappushservice

echo "" > C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Diagnosis\ETLLogs\AutoLogger\AutoLogger-Diagtrack-Listener.etl

Now we have to disable telemetry policies. To do this, you must use an administrator account.

Press Win+R and enter gpedit.msc in the window that appears

Let's go to the next branch - Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - Windows components- Data collection and pre-build builds - Allow telemetry. Here we right-click on the parameter and select “edit” in the context menu.

In the new window, select “disable” and click “apply”.

After these changes, you will see the status “disabled” in the “status” column.

In the same thread, but a little higher, we find the OneDrive line. You don't have to do this action if you want to use the cloud. But in my opinion, Dropbox is much better.

And disable the use of the cloud.

You also need to disable telemetry in the Windows registry

Press Win+R and enter regedit.exe in the window that appears

We are looking for this registry branch

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\DataCollection

and change the parameter

Hosts file

There are still modification tips on the Internet. hosts file. They advise blocking different addresses so that the system cannot send data to Microsoft.

But according to some experts, new Windows stopped accepting this file and still sends data to the Microsoft server.

These are the addresses.

The recording format is:

127.0. 0.1 address from the list

Open your hosts file and add the lines from the file there. On Windows 10 this file is located at the following location:

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

Whether you use them or not is up to you. But the best way is to block these addresses in the router.

I also recommend replacing standard programs with spy functions to alternative ones.

  • EDGE to any other browser (firefox, opera, google chrome)
  • Windows Media Player and “Cinema and TV” on
  • Groove Music on (great audio player)
  • “View Windows photos” and “Photos” to an alternative, for example to

Since its emergence of Windows was a natural habitat for malware of all stripes. It seems that the new version of this operating system itself has become one of the Trojans. Immediately after installation, the clean system behaves suspiciously. Data flows like a river onto dozens of servers from Microsoft and partner companies. We decided to look into complaints about the espionage habits of “Ten” and found out what it sends and where.

WARNING

All information was obtained through our own research and is provided for informational purposes only. Neither the editors nor the author are responsible for any possible harm caused by interference with the operation of the OS.

Microsoft > NSA

The first reports of strange behavior in Windows 10 appeared at the Technical Preview stage. Significant traffic is constantly generated in it - even when not a single application is running on the network. Then this behavior was attributed to the collection of statistics necessary for debugging. Microsoft studied the behavior of the new product on different configurations, and users played the role of beta testers. It seems that everything is logical. However, with the release, nothing changed, and the complaints only increased. “Last weekend I upgraded my son's laptop from Windows 8 to Windows 10. Today, on my first day of work, I received an email from Microsoft with the subject line “Weekly Activity Report.” It contained detailed information about his son’s activities on the laptop: when and how long he sat at it, what applications he used and for how long, what he searched on the Internet, what sites he visited, and much more. I was extremely indignant because I had no intention of keeping an eye on my child. Microsoft told me that if I do not want to receive such emails, then I should indicate this in the family account settings through my account. There was no such problem in Windows 8." This is an excerpt from a letter written by friend and activist Cory Doctorow, published on the blog Boing Boing. Many observers claim that this user information is still collected - regardless of account settings. If something can be turned off, it’s the reports that come by email.
Non-confidentiality statement The most interesting thing is that the collection of various information by built-in using Windows 10 is described in detail in the Privacy Statement. Of course, the majority will not read it, and among those who have read it there will be many who are perplexed. The wording in the voluminous text is cunning and vague. From them it is difficult to understand what exactly will change in terms of privacy with the transition to Windows 10. In short, you can forget about it. Human rights activists agree that the system immediately begins to collect all the data it can obtain. Here is a list of their main types. Biometric:
  • sample voice and pronunciation of certain words;
  • sample handwriting (handwriting);
  • samples of texts typed in any application.
Geolocation:
  • information about the current location;
  • location history with timestamps.
Technical:
  • hardware data, including device identifiers;
  • information about connected networks (wired and wireless);
  • telemetry information;
  • data from any built-in sensors.
Behavioral analysis:
  • search query history;
  • history of visited web pages;
  • Windows startup and shutdown times;
  • startup and closing times for each application.
Buying activity:
  • downloading applications from the company store;
  • clicking on contextual advertising links;
  • following personalized advertising links.
The list can be continued, but this set is enough to start your own research. Looking ahead, we note that some of the accusations against Windows 10 were not confirmed. For example, the Czech publication AE News suggests that the OS is sending an image from the webcam to Microsoft servers. In our test, the system responded to connecting the camera only by installing drivers - no extraneous actions were recorded with it, either immediately or later.

Watching the watcher

There are plenty of familiar tools in a hacker’s arsenal to study any software. Test computer with a clean SSD, virtual machine, Wireshark sniffer, HTTP proxy and debugger Fiddler, TCPView network connection monitor, as well as programs for creating registry snapshots and small auxiliary utilities. We tried to use versions that do not require installation. The only exceptions were Wireshark and Fiddler due to the specifics of their work. We saved these programs for last so that most of the testing would be done on a completely clean system. Network traffic was analyzed as in Windows settings 10 by default, and after gradually disabling all tracking functions. From official documents it follows that the user is being monitored by: Windows itself, the deeply integrated Bing search, the Cortana voice assistant, the MSN service, Office package, OneDrive cloud storage client, mail client Outlook, as well as Skype, Silverlight and Xbox Live. More information about this is written on the Microsoft website. Let's see exactly how data collection occurs.
First Windows start 10 After performing a clean installation of build 10240, we began to monitor its network behavior using TCPView. No other actions were performed. At first everything was quiet - like in “Seven”. Only the proprietary application store showed readiness to receive data through the content delivery network from Akamai Technologies.
The calm before the storm When it was already getting boring to sit in ambush, he suddenly came to life system process\Windows\System32\svchost.exe . He established a connection to the remote node 191.232.139.254 and sent 7.5 KB to it.
First Petrel It was possible to find out the ownership of an IP address through WHOIS service, but asking Shodan is more informative.
BingBot caught As it became clear from the description, this is a robot search engine Bing. If the test had made at least one search request (even a local one), then the connection would not have raised any objections. However, we just sat and watched TCPView as the computer started spying on us.

Preparing for a packet storm

You can wait a long time for sleeping services. It's time to wake them up and get a little active. Pressing the “Start” button made the information blocks on the right come to life. The weather forecast appeared, news and advertising began to be displayed. TCPView shows that everything is loaded through the Akamai network and looks legitimate. As soon as we launch Notepad and start typing, the picture immediately changes.
Only Notepad is running. Six connections appear at once, which are quickly closed - in total, a little more than a hundred packets are spent. By disabling the “search the Internet” function, we left only local Windows search. We launched Notepad again and started typing arbitrary text. Anyway, the SearchUI process appeared and began transmitting data to the network.
Internet search disabled Perhaps we somehow misunderstood the “Privacy Statement”. Let's watch it again. This is a simple text page that opens in Edge browser. How much traffic can it generate? About the same as in the picture.
One page is open in the browser. The list of connections was updated so quickly that you simply can’t keep track. Therefore, we began the second part of the study. We closed all applications, installed the Wireshark sniffer and recorded Windows activity in half an hour. To simulate at least some activity, we simply looked at some settings in the control panel, but did not change them.
Windows transmits continuously - it doesn’t matter whether you do something or not. In half an hour, about eight thousand packets went into the network. As a study of the logs showed, most connections were established to addresses within one of the large subnets. The last two or three octets of their IP addresses often changed. This suggests that Microsoft has deployed a huge network to process all the flow from users Windows information. If you weed out addresses of the same type, the bottom line is a selection like the one in the picture.
In half an hour of our inactivity, Windows managed to send reports all over the world. The Brazilian server catches your eye, but this is another BingBot (perhaps some kind of particularly specialized one), but it is not the only one that raises questions. For example, why the hell was the connection to the Facebook server in the Netherlands made? Who asked to connect to cloud storage CloudFlare? No files have been created yet. Even accounting Microsoft entry was not activated.

Revealing a spy network

After searching Bing, the main spy in Windows is Cortana. Somehow, a strained relationship immediately developed with her. At first she herself insisted on getting to know each other, and then suddenly announced that she did not understand Russian speech and was not even going to learn it.
Cortana is used to getting to know each other first. Even after changing the language to English and the region to the USA, we still didn’t win her favor. The Microsoft knowledge base says this simply - install the appropriate fix through the update service. The only pity is that the user is now deprived of the opportunity to install updates at his own discretion. They are downloaded and installed by Windows automatically. The user can only choose to cancel the reboot and set a delayed installation.
Cortana dynamite Russians Most of the hidden Windows traffic goes through the Akamai content delivery network, so it does not appear in the HTTP proxy logs. However, this does not mean that watching them is useless. Running Fiddler reveals some interesting things. For example, find out that user identification occurs before the installed copy of Windows is activated.
HTTP proxy log fragment When looking at the Fiddler window, you can see the characteristic form /usercard/?id= , accessing an account through the Microsoft Live service, and much more. Where did the requests to visualstudio.com come from and social services Microsoft is an enigma.
Fiddler collected 29 web addresses. HTTP traffic during half an hour of inactivity turned out to be so large that it became a problem to clearly display it on the screen. We took a couple of screenshots and then compiled a list of the hosts that were exposed. We could immediately add them to the hosts file, but we will postpone this for now so as not to disrupt the course of the experiment. Fiddler's catch feeds localhost From this list, only the URL windowsupdate.com looks expected, which we did not include in the blocking list. According to the installation log, during the entire experiment, 21 updates were automatically installed with a total volume of about 150 MB. During the test, in addition to Notepad, we only launched Calculator and our utilities for analyzing Windows activity, in which auto-update was disabled. At the same time, the total network traffic exceeded half a gigabyte. That’s a lot for “service data collected to improve the user experience of programs”!
Half a gig of data leaked online. The impression turned out to be very spoiled. There are really a lot of tracking functions in Windows 10. Disabling integrated search and firing Cortana only partially helps. " Windows Defender» Sends images of files that it deems suspicious or malicious to Microsoft. The SmartScreen filter not only scans web content, but also generates a list of visited pages. The location log records all physical movements (especially important if Windows 10 is installed on a mobile device). Many applications also send user interaction reports in the new style, and in the “Diagnostics and Usage Data” section you cannot prevent the report from being sent at all - you can only select a less detailed option.

INFO

IN Lately Microsoft is trying to teach previous versions of Windows OS to spy in the same way as “Ten” does. In particular, tracking functions will be added with updates KB3075249 and KB3080149.

Going offline

We have decided to completely disable all legal espionage tools regular means Windows. Basically, settings are changed through the “Privacy”, “Search” and “Update and Security” tabs in the control panel. There are about fifty switches, but will they be of any use? We disabled everything we could and started Wireshark again. This time we didn’t use any built-in applications and didn’t even touch the mouse. Returning an hour later, we see painfully familiar IPs in the sniffer logs.
The snake changes its skin, but does not change its character. There is progress. The total number of requests has decreased by an order of magnitude. The number of remote nodes to which connections are made without the user’s knowledge has also decreased approximately threefold. However, new ones appeared among them. If in the first Wireshark log the Facebook server was suddenly found, now the Amazon data center from Ireland is lit up.
The ranks of spies have thinned Since Fiddler helped to obtain a list of IPs, adding them en masse to the hosts file should help stop surveillance. Let's check by creating a block list and run Wireshark again.
A modest Wireshark catch Compared to the first log, this one looks boring. Only one IP address did not fit on the screen, and their total list consists of only four. Two of them belong to the content delivery network and cannot be effectively blocked in hosts - too many subnets belong to Akamai. The third IP address belongs to Windows service Update, which was not blocked. BingBot turned out to be the most persistent spy. His connection with the Brazilian Microsoft Informatica knows no barriers. Apparently, the process contains built-in means of circumventing restrictions.

Finishing off the agents of the Matrix

A number of additional measures help to cope with the remaining Microsoft agents. You need to set your firewall to block connections to all IP addresses detected by Wireshark. We got 47 of them, but surely with longer monitoring the list will increase. There is still a chance that at the next automatic update V system files New IPs will be registered, but for now, together with modification of the hosts file, this provides most of the protection against surveillance. You can disable “non-disabled” functions through the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DataCollection By setting this parameter to zero, we will prohibit sending “technical” data. It is advisable to delete the DiagTrack service file with already collected data. Here is the path to it: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Diagnosis\ETLLogs\AutoLogger\AutoLogger-Diagtrack-Listener.etl You can disable the DiagTrack and dmwappushsvc services themselves through service management or the registry branch: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ In the task scheduler It’s worth looking at the task queue and disabling all regular data sending, if they still exist. It is recommended to uninstall the OneDrive cloud client if you do not intend to use it anyway. All these steps can be performed manually, but the DisableWinTracking utility helps greatly in saving time. Unlike many analogues, it is distributed openly source code and well documented.

Bottom line

After completing all the described steps, Windows 10 lost its spying habits. Along with them, however, almost all the new features that were designed to improve ease of use and ensure safety disappeared. However, as Franklin said: “Those who are willing to sacrifice essential liberty for a little temporary safety are worthy of neither liberty nor safety.”

Windows 10 runs on more than 400 million devices, but it still has all the privacy concerns - including mandatory diagnostic and data usage reports from Microsoft - and copious amounts of advertising permeate the platform.

Not all Windows problems 10 can be fixed, but there are some things you can do to restore your privacy. Here are five privacy-related settings you can change for a more secure Windows 10 experience.

Use a local account.

Once you turn off syncing on your devices, you'll have a reason to use your Microsoft account to sign in to your computer. Instead, you can use a local account, which does not require email address, which will prevent Microsoft from collecting information about you. With a local account, you create a username and password for your computer and that's it. (You'll still need a Microsoft account to buy apps from the Windows Store, though, and if you want to sync files with Microsoft services like OneDrive, OneNote, and Office 365.)

To create a local account, go to Settings > Accounts > Your Information, click Sign in with a local account instead, and follow the instructions to create a username, password, and password hint.

Turn off your location.

If you are using mobile device, such as a tablet or laptop, there are times when you have allowed Windows 10 and third party applications access your location. But that doesn't mean you have to leave your location turned on all the time. When your location is turned on, Windows 10 stores your devices' location history for 24 hours and allows location-enabled apps to access that data.

If you turn off your location, apps that use this data (such as the Maps app) will not be able to find you. However, you can manually set a default location that apps can use as an alternative.

To turn off your location, open Settings > Privacy and go to the Location section. You can either turn off location for all users (under "Location of this device > Change"), or you can turn off location services for your account (Location Services). From this menu, you can also clear your location history and allow certain apps to see (or not see) your exact location. Apps in the list will receive location information if they use historical data.

To quickly switch the location service, open the notification center; There is a "Location" switch in quick settings(next to Do Not Disturb).

Stop synchronization.

There's a lot that syncs in Windows 10. If you sign in with a Microsoft account, your settings, including passwords, can be synced across other devices that you sign in to with the same account. Your notifications can also be synced across all devices.

If you turn off sync, your settings and passwords won't sync across other devices when you sign in with a Microsoft account (so you'll need to do things like enter passwords manually).

To turn off syncs, open the Settings menu and navigate to Accounts > Sync your settings. You can either turn off all sync settings at once, or toggle individual sync options.

To turn off sync notifications, open Cortana (Cortana does not work in Russia, so residents of the Russian Federation do not need to do the following) and go to Settings > Send notifications between devices. You can turn off this setting to turn off all sync notifications, and you can also click the "Change sync settings" button to manage your various devices.

Disable information on the lock screen.

The lock screen is the first thing a user will see when they turn on their device, and this screen can display a lot of information that you don't want to show to strangers.

Here are three things you need to do to lock your lock and login screens.

Make sure your notifications don't appear on your lock screen. Open the Settings menu and select System > Notifications & Actions and turn off Show notifications on lock screen. The downside to turning this feature off is that you won't see any notifications until you unlock your device.

Disable Cortana on the lock screen (residents of the Russian Federation do not need this), open Cortana and go to Settings> Use Cortana even if my device is locked. The downside to turning this feature off is that you won't be able to use Cortana while your device is locked.

You can also limit its presence on the lock screen (rather than disabling it completely) by unchecking the box next to "Allow Cortana to access my calendar, email, messages, and Power BI when my device is locked." This way, you'll still be able to ask Cortana questions that don't reveal any personal information while the device is locked.

To hide your address Email On the login screen, open the Settings menu and go to Accounts > Sign-in Options > Privacy. Turn off the toggle under "Show account information (such as email address) on sign-in screen." There's almost no hidden point in turning this feature off if you really like seeing your email address on the screen.

Disable advertising identifier.

Each Microsoft account has a unique advertising identifier, which allows Microsoft to collect information about you and deliver personalized ads to you. different platforms. When you sign in to Windows 10 with your Microsoft account, these personalized ads will follow you to your computer, you'll see them in apps, and perhaps in the app itself. operating system(for example, in the Start menu).

To remove these ads in Windows 10, open the Settings menu and go to "Privacy > General > Allow apps to use my Ad Recipient ID (disabling this setting will reset the ID)" and disable this feature. You will still see ads, but they will not be personalized to your tastes and preferences.

Disabling this feature will stop personalized ads from popping up in Windows 10, but it won't necessarily stop personalized ads from popping up for you when you use your Microsoft account on other platforms. To get rid of ads on other platforms, such as browsers, go to Microsoft's personalized advertising page and turn off the "Personalized ads in this browser" toggle.

Almost from the very first day Windows 10 was released, which is almost three and a half years, information appeared on the Internet that Microsoft was allegedly watching us, trying to know everything about us, and selling our personal data to third parties. Immediately everyone rushed to turn off telemetry using third party programs, which, like mushrooms after rain, began to appear on the Internet. A heated discussion began about how bad Microsoft is, it knows everything about us, it’s watching. But at the same time, forgetting that they themselves provide their information and personal data. I'm not even talking about the fact that competitors in this regard have long since collected everything, handed it over and bombarded us and their partners with advertising.

But now we’re still talking about privacy settings in Windows 10, so let’s not get distracted. You need to understand that there are now more than 700 million people running Windows 10 active users, so sometimes some of them may have problems. Nobody's perfect. Alas, privacy problems when working with Microsoft's operating system have not gone away. But it turns out you can control what you transmit, what you share, and who can see information about you. Of course, you can change some settings, prevent the system from sharing any of your personal information, not clutter your device with advertising and all sorts of nonsense, but remember that this will not solve all problems at once. You also need to understand the company’s developers, because sometimes they need to know the essence of the problem in order to quickly solve it. If they don't have access to your settings, how will they be able to do this.

Of course, you can disable some settings related to your privacy, but first of all you need to decide for yourself whether it’s worth it. In the operating system itself, a whole section in Settings was dedicated to this, which is called Confidentiality. I don't want to talk about it in detail. If you want, take a look for yourself and decide whether you need to know all this. Today I will tell you how to change some settings related to your privacy in order to get a more positive experience and emotions from using Windows 10.

Disable your location

A lot of controversy and rumors regarding Windows 10 concerned tracking the location of users. Some experts and my colleagues vying with each other wrote and shouted everywhere that Microsoft wants to know everything about us, see where we go, so that they can then transfer our data to partners. But we ourselves allow the company to do this.

If you use a Windows 10 tablet or laptop and often move around the city or take it on trips, then it still makes sense to allow the operating system and third-party applications to access your location. This will give you access to information about which cafe or gas station is nearby, and learn about the attractions of the city you are visiting. There are many advantages. But that doesn't mean your location should always be on. You need to understand that if your location data is constantly at the disposal of Windows 10, then applications installed on your device also have access to it. Both the operating system and apps store your devices' location history for 24 hours, possibly longer.

Of course, if you turn off all data, then some applications, such as, for example, Maps, will not be able to find you. And sometimes, especially in a foreign city, this can come in handy. But you have the option to manually set a default location that apps can use as an alternative.

Let's try to figure it all out. To turn off your location, you need to follow a few simple steps:

I know that some of my colleagues suggest disabling location completely, using many settings, including Registry. I would strongly advise you not to do this, as sometimes you will need to use it and there is also a risk of breaking something. It must be understood that any change in Register may cause problems with your operating system.

There is also fast access to enable or disable your Locations, but it only partially fulfills its functions. For more detailed and thoughtful settings, it is better to use the method described above.

Stop data synchronization

Like any modern operating room Windows system 10 syncs your data. This is very convenient, since all your settings, including passwords, will be synchronized between other devices on which you log in to the same account. Your notifications can also be synced across all devices. In other words, if you log in different devices with the same Microsoft account, you get access to all passwords, data, and also receive notifications that came to your laptop, for example, to your smartphone. This is quite convenient to use, especially with mail.

But if you are afraid for your data and passwords or you do not need synchronization between devices, you can disable it at any time. But remember that in this case, your settings and passwords will not be synced between other devices when you sign in with a Microsoft account. In other words, you will have to enter passwords manually each time; notifications will not be sent to your tablet or smartphone.

But if you still decide to disable data synchronization, then this is quite easy to do.

Also if you use voice assistant Cortana, although it is not available here, can be configured if desired, but you will have to disable synchronization in its settings.

The fact is that it synchronizes all user parameters. But since few people use it here, I don’t think there’s a need to describe the whole process.

Use a local account

In Windows 10, you can use a local account instead of a Microsoft account. What is it for? Well, let's start with the fact that then Microsoft will not have access to synchronizing your data settings, that is, it will not know your passwords and will not send notifications. Windows 10 will also collect less information about you. This doesn't mean that this method will save you from everything. In addition, there is a significant disadvantage to using a local account. The fact is that in order to download, install for free or buy applications in the Microsoft Store, you still need an account from Microsoft. You also won't be able to sync files with Microsoft services like OneDrive, OneNote and Office 365, which will make your work a little more difficult.

But if you don't need all of the above and still want to use a local account on your device, then spend a few minutes doing it by following a few simple steps

You can change your account at any time, and the system itself will prompt you to do so. For example, if you log into the Microsoft Store or want to use cloud service OneDrive.

Turn off lock screen information

When we turn on the laptop, the first thing we see is the lock screen. Recently there have been many complaints that the system displays a lot of unnecessary or personal information. Strangers can see it, they can even use it. It would seem, what’s wrong with this, because we are there for a couple of seconds, entering the password. But some users don't like it. In addition, sometimes the same computer monitor in the office can display the lock screen for a long time.

To avoid hassles at work or at home, you should consider what you want your device's lock screen to display. You will have to spend a couple of minutes to complete some simple settings.

Again, when using Cortana, you should also prevent it from sending you notifications and use it completely even when your device is locked. But then you won’t be able to use it while the device is locked.

Perhaps some of you don’t like the fact that everyone can see your account on the lock screen. In this case:

If you want to see your account once again when you log in, you can turn it on at any time.

Turn off the advertising identifier

Lately there has been a lot of talk on the Internet about how Microsoft has begun sending advertisements more and more often. Of course, users don’t like this, but the software corporation can be understood - it also wants to make money from advertising. All the talk about how I supposedly buy an operating system from them and don’t want to see advertising there is just empty talk. When buying a smartphone, you do not scold the manufacturer or Google and Apple for advertising in the browser or applications, but try in some way to prohibit it, reject it, delete it, etc. This can also be done in Windows 10, and much simpler and easier than on smartphones.

Let me remind you that each Microsoft account has its own unique advertising identifier. Its use helps Microsoft collect information about you and, based on your preferences, deliver personalized advertising on different platforms. You may notice them when logging into Windows 10 using a Microsoft account, appearing in built-in applications, even sometimes in the operating system itself, for example in the Start menu or Explorer. Sometimes this will irritate, cause dissatisfaction and anger. But you can rid yourself of advertising by disabling this very advertising identifier. Moreover, disabling is very simple and will take a minimum of time.

To do this you need:

True, there is one small nuance. All disabling will hide annoying personalized ads in Windows 10 itself, but will not get rid of them on other platforms if you use your Microsoft account on them. But there is still a solution.

To do this, you should open the special Microsoft personalized advertising page. Find the option " Show personalized ads in the browser« and turn it off. Of course, there is no complete guarantee that all advertising will disappear, but there will be significantly less of it.

conclusions

In conclusion, I would like to remind you that often it is we who decide what to provide, what information or data to share, what advertising to see on our device or to get rid of it altogether. Remember that it is up to you whether your confidential information to the Network. And we will always tell you how to configure, disable or disable it.

Hello everyone, today I’ll tell you how to set up Windows 10 privacy and disable spyware windows functions 10. Since release new version OS from Microsoft, a lot of information has appeared on the Internet that Windows 10 spies on its users, inexplicably uses their personal data, and more. The concern is understandable: people think that Windows 10 is collecting their personalized personal data, which is not entirely true. Just like your favorite browsers, sites, and previous version Windows, Microsoft collects anonymous data to improve the OS, search, other system functions... Well, and to show you advertising.

If you are very concerned about the security of your confidential data and want to ensure that it is kept as safe as possible from Microsoft's access, these instructions detailed description Windows 10 settings that allow you to secure this data as much as possible and prevent Windows 10 from spying on you.

You can configure settings for transferring and storing personal data in Windows 10 already in installed system, as well as at the stage of its installation. Below we will first look at the settings in the installation program, and then in the system already running on the computer.

Setting up personal data security when installing Windows 10

During Windows 10 installation, after copying files, rebooting for the first time, and entering or skipping your product key (and possibly connecting to the Internet), you'll see the Boost your speed screen. If you click “Use standard settings”, then the sending of many personal data will be enabled, but if you click “Customize settings” at the bottom left, then we can change some privacy settings.

Configuring settings takes place on two screens, on the first of which you can disable personalization, sending data about keyboard input and voice input to Microsoft, as well as location tracking. If you need to disable Windows 10 spy features entirely, you can disable all items on this screen.

On the second screen, in order to avoid sending any personal data, I recommend disabling all functions (page load prediction, automatic connection to networks, sending error information to Microsoft), except for “SmartScreen”.

This is everything related to privacy that can be configured when Windows installation 10. Additionally, you can not connect a Microsoft account (since many of its parameters are synchronized with their server), but use a local account.

Configure Windows 10 privacy settings after installation

In Windows 10 settings, there is an entire “Privacy” section for configuring relevant settings. Press the Win+I keys on your keyboard (or click on the notification icon, and then “All settings”), and then select the desired item.

The privacy settings have a whole set of items, each of which we will consider in order.

  • Allow apps to use my ad recipient ID - turn off.
  • Enable SmartScreen filter - enable.
  • Send my writing information to Microsoft - turn off.
  • Allow websites to provide local information by accessing my language list - turn off.

In the “Location” section, you can disable location detection for your computer as a whole (it is also disabled for all applications), as well as for each application that can use such data separately (below in this section).

Speech, handwriting, and text input

In this section, you can disable tracking of your typed characters, speech and handwriting input. If you see a “Meet Me” button in the “Meet Me” section, this means that these functions have already been disabled.

If you see a “Stop learning” button, click it to disable the storage of this personal information.

Camera, microphone, account information, contacts, calendar, radio, messaging and more

All of these sections allow you to turn off the use of relevant hardware and data on your system by applications (the safest option). They can also allow their use for certain applications and prohibit them for others.

Reviews and diagnostics

We put “Never” in the item “Windows should ask for my feedback” and “Basic information” in the item about sending data to Microsoft if you do not want to share information with it.

Background applications

Many Windows applications 10 continue to run even when you're not using them and even if they're not in the Start menu. In chapter " Background applications"You can disable them, which will not only prevent any data from being sent, but also save battery power on your laptop or tablet.

Additional privacy and security settings

For greater security, you should also perform a few more steps. Return to the All Settings window and go to the Network and Internet section. In the Wi-Fi section, scroll down and click Manage Settings Wi-Fi networks».

Disable the options “Connect to suggested open hotspots” and “Connect to networks shared by my contacts.”
