We tested and wrote a review of the main flagship of the Huawei sub-brand - Honor 10.

The Chinese company is actively developing both brands and regularly releases smartphones in all price categories. Of course, the most interesting and remarkable devices are found in the flagship segment - there is an excellent design, powerful proprietary processors, bright displays and cool cameras. Design and ergonomics

Honor 10 is a stylish and youthful smartphone, the design of which captivates at first sight. The device comes in Midnight Black, Ice Grey, Shimmer Blue and Shimmer Green colours. Chinese marketers have worked hard on epic color names, which, admittedly, are true.

The “Shimmering Green” Honor 10 came to us for review. The “chameleon” style coloring beautifully and mesmerizingly glitters in the sun in a huge number of shades: blue, green, purple, pearlescent, turquoise and many others.

This play of colors looks very cool and makes a great impression.

From our photos it may seem that we tested several different color versions of the device, but this is not the case. Depending on the lighting, the smartphone looks new and unusual every time.

The back surface is made of aluminosilicate glass. During two weeks of testing, it was practically not damaged and did not lose its original appearance, but we handle smartphones with care.

Unlike most glass gadgets, Honor 10 practically does not slip in your hand. An oleophobic coating is applied to the back, but it practically does not interfere with the appearance of fingerprints and greasy stains. Unfortunately, all glass smartphones are easily soiled and scratched quickly, and the tested model is no exception.

In the upper left corner there is a protruding dual camera module, next to it is an LED flash, and on the left is the AI Camera marking, so that you don’t forget that the device is powered by artificial intelligence.

At the bottom of the back panel you can find the Honor brand logo, and below there are almost invisible trademarks.

The back of the Honor 10 is the perfect combination of design and practicality. The coating is pleasant to the touch and the edges are rounded. The only drawback is the noticeably protruding and dirty camera. The included case solves this problem, although it deprives the owner of aesthetic pleasure from the iridescent colors.

The front panel of the smartphone is made in black, so it looks minimalist and concise.

When activating the display, pay attention to the notch - the iPhone X haunts Chinese companies that are actively copying this “ design feature" In the free space between the “ears” there is a speaker, front camera, flash and sensors.

It’s good that in the black version these elements are almost invisible.

An ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is located in the compact (about 8 mm) free space under the display. Notably, this is a touch area and not a physical button. For clarity, the fingerprint is framed by a barely noticeable frame.

The navigation buttons here are touch sensitive.

On the right side, the developers placed the volume and power buttons. There are no complaints about the location, quality of materials and tactile sensations when pressed.

On the left is a SIM card slot that can be removed with a paperclip. There is no space for a memory card here.

On the top edge of the device there is a noise-canceling microphone and an infrared port - not the most relevant, but still useful for control household appliances technology.

The developers placed a USB Type-C connector in the center of the bottom end, speaker and microphone cutouts on the left, and a headphone audio jack (3.5 mm) on the right. Also along the edges you can see antenna strips for receiving a cellular signal.

Display and picture

Honor 10 is equipped with an elongated 5.84-inch IPS display with Full HD+ resolution, 19:9 aspect ratio and 432 ppi pixel density. The characteristics are almost ideal - the screen is large, and the smartphone is quite compact.

The image clarity is high, the tilt angles are wide, and there is enough contrast and brightness in almost all conditions, with the exception of the bright summer sun.

The Honor 10's display is dominated by warm pinks and yellows, but in the settings you can choose the color mode (normal/bright) and temperature (cool/warm).

If we compare similar IPS matrices, then there can be no complaints about the Honor 10 screen. Next to high-quality OLED and especially AMOLED displays, it will lose.

Performance and benchmarks

Chinese developers are actively developing their own Kirin mobile chipsets, which they use in most branded gadgets. The processors may be inferior to their flagship counterparts from Qualcomm, but they provide excellent energy efficiency, smooth operation of the interface and quick start applications.

HiSilicon Kirin 970 is Huawei's main processor in 2018. This chipset is used in key flagships - Huawei P20/P20 Pro, and the Honor 10 being tested today. The Kirin 970 copes well with all the proposed loads, including active web surfing, correspondence in instant messengers, a large number of open applications and social networks.

It is almost impossible to notice slowdowns and microlags on the Honor 10 in everyday mode. I'm glad that open applications are not unloaded from RAM - even the next day, browser tabs will open without rebooting.

The situation is similar with games - you can install and play anything you want. For example, PUBG runs without any stuttering or noticeable stuttering. high settings graphics. The same can be said about Godfire and NFS: No Limit. But there are two nuances:

  1. Even inexperienced users will notice the device quickly heats up in the rear.
  2. Gamers may complain about frame rate (fps) drops after playing for a while (usually 20-30 minutes).

In other words, Honor 10 will run all games at high graphics settings, but it cannot guarantee consistently high fps. Most likely, the lack of 3D graphics processing power is caused by the Mali graphics chipset.

Testing in benchmarks showed expectedly high results, but the difference between the first and third runs in AnTuTu is 20 thousand points, and the device itself gets very hot. The explanation is simple - which will interfere with heavy games.

Cameras and photos

Honor 10 is equipped with a dual camera with 16 MP (f/1.8) and 24 MP (black and white) modules, autofocus, LED flash and functions artificial intelligence. There are questions about the latter's work - if the object in the picture is identified quickly and correctly, then the resulting photographs often turn out unnaturally bright and contrasty.

Photos on Honor 10 with AI technology

The bokeh effect in AI mode works perfectly, the background is blurred, but the foreground remains clear, there is no blurring at the borders.

Bokeh effect

Under normal shooting conditions and good lighting there should be no problems.

The flash works correctly and has virtually no flare or distortion.

With weak artificial lighting The camera can afford noise in the background and around the edges of shots, but the focal point usually comes out clear and detailed.

When shooting at night, slight noise appears and clarity may be reduced. For mobile camera this is not critical even in 2018.

Selfie quality is high, and the built-in software perfectly hides and smoothes out skin imperfections.

Let's summarize. Honor 10 has excellent cameras with additional functions, which create high-quality, clear and rich images. The main photo module copes well with shooting in low light, and also takes photos with a bokeh effect. But it’s too early to talk about the flagship level - Honor 10 is inferior to the recognized leaders from Samsung and Apple in this component, but only an experienced user can notice this difference. At the same time, the tested smartphone can be called one of the leaders in mobile photography in the segment up to 30 thousand rubles.

The full collection of photos on Honor 10 in original quality is available on Yandex.Disk.

Features and Interface

Let's start with the important and pleasant. The smartphone is equipped with an NFC module for contactless payments. Personally tested: technology is excellent with binding bank card Sberbank and Tinkov, as well as the Yandex.Money virtual card.

It’s illogical to be surprised by its presence in a smartphone for 26 thousand rubles, but its presence should be noted. The user has the opportunity to transfer data at high speed, technology and simply a modern convenient connector.

Old but relevant technology - - is located on the upper end of the device. It is needed to control household appliances and “emulate” remote controls.

Now let's move on to security. Honor 10 comes with a front-mounted fingerprint scanner, which is really handy. It must be admitted that the unlocking speed is not the highest - the technology is crude, so there are noticeable delays, which does not produce the best impression.

But facial recognition is implemented on high level. In terms of response speed, the technology is comparable to a fingerprint scanner, but it is much more convenient. On Honor 10, facial recognition works from sleep mode - you pick up the phone from the table or take it out of your pocket, and it is already unlocked. Some problems are only possible in poor lighting.

Test results

During testing, Honor 10 established itself as a top-level device without obvious shortcomings at a reasonable cost. Its design and performance are cool, and the dual camera, powered by artificial intelligence, takes decent photos. Solid, although not phenomenal, is the length of time battery life. The cost, depending on the amount of built-in memory, ranges from 26,990 to 29,990 rubles - this is an attractive price for the quality offered.

Huawei P20 says hello

The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree: upon external examination, it quickly becomes clear that Honor 10 has adopted some of the design features of the Huawei P20. But this is not too surprising: after all, Honor is a subsidiary of Huawei. The glass body and aluminum frame of Honor 10 look very elegant. For those who like something brighter, the manufacturer came up with Shimmering Green and Shimmering Blue - inspired by the lights of the Northern Lights, Honor reproduces interesting color shifts on the back of the case. Honor 10 is also available in classic black and silver options.

Let's not hide it: Honor 10 is well made - its corners are nicely rounded, and its 154 grams of weight fit well in the hand. The double camera, which protrudes noticeably beyond the dimensions of the case, is somewhat disturbing, since if the device is lying on a table, it is not stable. There is no IP certification here - that is new flagship Honor is not waterproof.

Honor 10 display follows the Notch trend

Honor 10 has a 5.84-inch display in 19:9 format with a high resolution of 2280x1080 pixels (432 ppi). Honor uses an LC display, which we especially liked for its display rich colors. According to our tests, it has 136 percent coverage of the sRGB color space, which is almost on par with OLED displays. But you can't count on the perfect display of blacks that the Huawei P20 offers. However, thanks to a maximum brightness of almost 490 cd/m2, the Honor 10 screen remains highly readable even in bright sunlight.

The screen is almost frameless and, in accordance with modern trends, has a notch at the top, which is called “Notch”. As a result, the display covers 80 percent of the area of the front side of the case with the image, that is, it uses it with virtually no loss. In addition to several sensors, the notch houses an earpiece and a front camera with an extremely high 24-megapixel resolution. By the way, it can also be used to unlock a smartphone through the facial recognition function. Alternatively, you can use the fingerprint scanner, which responds accurately and quickly.

Practical: You can deactivate the Notch display if you wish. In this case, the areas to the left and right of the notch are filled with black.

Honor 10's 5.84-inch display has convincing color saturation

Decent battery life, excellent performance

The battery has a high capacity of 3400 mAh. With it, Honor 10 in our demanding battery life testing with constantly activated display was able to show a solid result of 9 hours 25 minutes. For comparison: Huawei P20 has a battery smaller capacity, but almost made it to the 10 o'clock mark. For normal, everyday use this should not be a problem. You will find more durable devices, the battery life of which sometimes reaches 13 hours or more, in our corresponding one.

During testing, the smartphone charged quickly. More precisely, through the included USB Typ-C power supply for fast charging with a power of 22.5 W, the battery replenished its energy reserves in 116 minutes.

The strength of the Honor 10 is its fast pace. The manufacturer uses the best this moment Huawei's processor is called the HiSilicon Kirin 970. It's about as fast as Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835. With this development from Huawei, web surfing can truly be a pleasure: even when working with heavy websites and applications, we did not notice any restrictions during our testing tests. Even in Split Screen mode, two applications worked in parallel, maintaining speed and elasticity.

Depending on your choice, Honor 10 can be equipped with 4 or 6 GB of RAM and built-in storage capacity of 64 or 128 GB. Subsequent expansion of the built-in memory, unfortunately, is not possible: although the Honor 10 has a slot for accommodating two Nano-SIM cards, it does not have a slot for a Micro-SD memory card. In the case of the device we tested, we are talking about a 128 GB variant, where approximately 115 GB remain available for free use.

Honor installs the latest operating system here Android system 8.1 Oreo, which works in combination with the EMUI 8.1 user interface developed by Huawei.

Surfing the web with Honor 10 is a pleasure: the Kirin 970 processor ensures a fast pace of work

AI camera but not Leica certified

Honor 10 has a dual camera located on the back of the body, but unlike the P20 series, it does not have Leica certification. The photo quality of this camera is not bad, although it cannot compare with top devices in this category, for example, the HTC U11, especially in poor lighting conditions. The camera has two matrices: 16-megapixel color and 24-megapixel black and white. The f/1.8 aperture provides sufficient light flow to the sensors. In daylight, we can consider the Honor 10's images to be convincing, but those taken at dusk seem somewhat noisy. In addition, noise reduction algorithms “eat up” a lot of details and structures. Hair and yarn, for example, merge into one surface.

However, this should not be the case at all: the manufacturer in Honor 10 uses the so-called “AI camera” (with artificial intelligence). AI mode recognizes objects and scenarios, adapting camera settings to the scenes being captured (such as nature, food, portraits) to improve image quality, such as improving color saturation.

The optical image stabilizer will have to be abandoned here, and accordingly, the risk of blurry photographs becomes higher. However, it is possible to take advantage of “intelligent” image stabilization at software. The camera detects moving objects and activates Quick Capture mode to capture the scene as clearly as possible.

Good equipment

Fans of cable headphones can rejoice at the presence of a classic audio jack - currently something taken for granted, unfortunately, this is no longer the case. Alternatively, Bluetooth 4.2 is available for use. According to the results of tests, we find the mono speaker of Honor 10 a little weak: Huawei P20 plays noticeably louder. Nice bonus: Thanks to the infrared transmitter located on the top side of the housing, you can control, for example, your home TV using your smartphone.

There is also a Dual-SIM slot on board, which allows you to use two mobile networks simultaneously. At the same time, 4G, and with it Voice-over-LTE to improve communication quality, is available on both cards. However, you will have to forget about the wireless charging function. In addition, the USB Typ-C connector transfers data using the slow 2.0 standard.

As already mentioned, sales of Honor 10 in Russia start today, May 22, at 11 a.m., but pre-orders were possible a week ago. When you pre-order, you can receive Honor Monster 2 headphones, an Honor Band 3 fitness tracker, as well as coupons from Delivery Club and IVI as a gift.

Cool characteristics at an attractive price are offered by Sony Xperia XZ1. If you prefer the classic Sony design, you can get an equivalent device that costs €400 as of May 2018.

In the comments to the previous article about 10 reasons against, serious battles unfolded and many copies were broken. However, any smartphone that appears on the market finds both its fans and opponents. Each potential buyer has his own device selection criteria that guide him when choosing his next smartphone. Let's try to figure out what parameters and characteristics can become the arguments that tip the scales in favor of buying Honor 10.

Reason 1

The first thing that comes to mind is a rather vague price/quality combination.

Honor 10 is fine with this. Modern apparatus with an excellent set of characteristics, it is offered at a price that has not been seen in new devices of this level for a long time - 26,990 rubles. for the version with 64 GB and 29,990 rubles. for the version with 128 GB of permanent memory. An excellent offer that will definitely take away some of the sales from many manufacturers, including the notorious A-brands.

Reason 2

Appearance. The smartphone turned out to be bright and charismatic. Back cover, consisting of several layers, allowing you to see 36 spectra of light reflection, attracts the eye and makes you look at yourself again and again. It looks very impressive. Bright, unusual colors for the design of the device’s body are, on the one hand, a risk, since you can overdo it with originality, and at the same time, it is an opportunity to attract attention by creating a device that is different from others. In this regard, Huawei has succeeded – the smartphone does not look tacky, but, on the contrary, makes an excellent impression thanks to its spectacular colors.

Reason 3

Oddly enough, here I can write down a parameter that was stated as a disadvantage in the previous material - the LTPS display matrix. In fact, there are a huge number of people who do not like AMOLED matrices with their poisonous colors, suffer from flicker and PenTile and prefer the calm colors of LTPS (which, in fact, are not much inferior to AMOLED matrices in color saturation). For them, the presence of a high-quality LTPS matrix will be a strong argument in favor of choosing Honor 10.

Reason 4

There is a very large percentage of people who have never flashed their phone and have no idea what it is. For them, the main thing is stable operation and low power consumption, and they don’t care about the number of custom firmware and upgrades. It is for such users that Honor 10 will have a definite advantage Kirin processor 970 made by Huawei. The advantages of this processor include quite high performance in everyday tasks with moderate power consumption. What else is needed for happiness?

Reason 5

The main camera with a separate coprocessor that provides artificial intelligence for image processing allows you to analyze shooting conditions without human intervention and select the most suitable parameters. Despite the lack of optical stabilization, the presence of artificial intelligence is a definite plus, since a solution that is the future of mobile photography has already been applied. So the Honor 10 is a great way to get cutting-edge technology for relatively little money.

This also includes the front camera high resolution as much as 24 MP, which will be a pleasant addition for selfie lovers. It’s common to make fun of selfie lovers online, attributing to them various unpleasant cliches, which I think is unfair. There are situations in which a good selfie camera will come in handy. And the better such a camera is, the better for the target audience. And all these negative epithets, so actively discussed on the Internet, are mostly far-fetched and are not worth paying attention to. A good selfie camera is great.

Reason 6

Display with a trendy 19:9 aspect ratio. Thanks to the use of this geometry, it was possible to fit a 5.84-inch diagonal display into a narrow body that is therefore convenient for one hand. I think there is no need to prove that holding a narrow phone is much more convenient than a wide “shovel”.

Reason 7

At the moment, most manufacturers who are keen on frameless displays are forced to move the fingerprint scanner to the rear surface (hello Samsung) or completely abandon it in favor of other, still rather controversial solutions such as facial recognition (hello Apple). This is one of the reasons why I didn't buy the Samsung S8. In this regard, Honor 10 is doing great - a fast ultrasonic scanner that recognizes even wet fingers is located in the most convenient place, in my opinion - on the front side under the display. Agree, it is much more convenient to unlock a phone lying, for example, on a table, if the scanner is in front rather than behind. For those for whom this is important, this parameter may become decisive.

Reason 8

I foresee a strong reaction to this plus of the device – the cutout in the display, or “notch”. In fact, if we put aside the issue of the secondary nature of this solution, the presence of this cutout is the next, logical step in development, thanks to which it was possible to increase the usable space of the display without compromising grip comfort. In the “ears” of the display, resulting from the addition of a cutout, service indicators, which previously ate up the useful display area, look very organic and appropriate. The application of such a design solution was only a matter of time and a logical development. Yes, there is an IPS matrix, and therefore those who want to hide the notch by filling this area with black may encounter the fact that the filled areas will still stand out against the background of the notch, but, on the other hand, if you absolutely want to hide the notch, why would you phone with this design?

Reason 9

If you like good sound on your phone, then this plus is for you. The manufacturer placed a dedicated Asahi Kasei AK4376A DAC in the smartphone for playback high-quality sound, and it would be illogical to remove the standard audio jack. Everything is fine here, Jack 3.5 has not gone away. Music lovers will be pleased.

Reason 10

Once upon a time, the infrared port on a phone was the only way to transfer information between devices over the air. Much time has passed since then, and the IR port has been replaced by more advanced and quick ways information transfer such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3/4G. Despite this, in some modern devices You can still find good old IR. It is only used now as a remote control and allows you to easily control various household appliances. Anyone who has ever used this functionality understands how convenient it can be and appreciates the presence of an IR port in the device. So, Honor 10 has an IR port, and that’s great. There will be something to turn down the air conditioner that your “hot” office colleague turned on full blast.

Conclusion and conclusions

If you look at all 10 reasons, it turns out that Honor 10 is a very worthy device with its own unique features and excellent price/quality ratio. We are all different, and therefore we all have different tastes, experiences and life principles. This means that the same characteristic or function for some may become a decisive point in favor of choice, but for others, on the contrary, a reason to refuse choice. Everyone chooses for themselves according to their needs. It is quite possible that the device has advantages that I missed, but for you they are key in this matter. Write in the comments which Honor 10 parameters are the most important and necessary for you.

No matter how fashionable and cutting-edge gadgets may be at the time of purchase, sooner or later the time comes to replace them with newer versions. And then a completely logical question arises: change the phone model to a more improved one or give preference to a competing company? A striking example of such competition is between Huawei and Apple. Today we’ll try to figure out which is better: Honor 8 or iPhone 6. At first glance, I would like to say that the devices are similar to each other, but if you delve into the characteristics, you can get a lot useful information, which ultimately will allow you to make a more correct and thoughtful choice.

Let's start our review with the release date of the gadgets. An improved iPhone 6 was released in the fall of 2014. No one then even thought that it would soon be followed by 7, 8 and 10 smartphone models. Moreover, in previous years, the world-famous Apple company was in no hurry to please its users with new models.

His opponent Honor 8 was released later - in July 2016. It was a well-equipped device, in no way inferior in functionality to its competitors, which could not but please Android users.

Some time after the releases of these two branded devices, a debate flared up about whether it was worth changing the already beloved phone with the Apple logo to new model similar functionality.

Equipment

Our comparison of Honor 8 and iPhone 6 will begin with one of the most important points - the configuration of the devices.

This time, the creators of iPhone 6 took care of their customers and equipped the device with a full set of essential accessories. This list included:

  • Original headset in the form of Earpods headphones;
  • Cable for connecting the device via a USB port;
  • A small paper clip so that users can easily remove the SIM slot;
  • The instructions for work, although not entirely complete, are better than nothing at all;
  • Standard charging unit;
  • And, as always, the manufacturers included several branded stickers with the apple logo in the box.

There is nothing particularly noteworthy on this list. Most people know that this is exactly what a standard set should look like when purchased.

As for Honor 8, the equipment here is a little sparse than expected:

  • The most common cable and charger unit;
  • Very short instructions.

Here the creators worked in a minimalist style and included only the most important things in the kit.

Design

The first thing the target client sees when purchasing is the appearance of the gadget. Most often, it is by appearance that the initial impression is formed and a person decides whether he should spend time finding out better characteristics devices or go further. Since there are a huge number of shelves with similar phones in stores, we look for the most attractive design, and then proceed to study it in more detail. The task of the developers is to develop the most attractive design to hook the buyer.

This time, Apple employees worked hard on the appearance of the iPhone 6. It differs from its relatives in its very streamlined shape. Although, if we take into account the very first iPhone model, it turns out that the company’s design concept was preserved. It is based on a standard rectangle, the edges of which are neatly rounded. The sixth Apple model retains the round button small size under the screen. Again, if we take the entire history of smartphone releases, then mainly only the size has changed. The developers always left the appearance recognizable.

In general, you can’t find fault with the design of the iPhone 6. The gadget is made entirely in the corporate style and remains easily recognizable on store shelves.

Now about Honor 8. You can say it without concealment - it went anywhere. Huawei engineers were able to find the optimal combination of width, thickness, weight and shape of the device, so that it seems more compact in the hand than it actually is. Of course, there is some similarity with the iPhone - the same frames on the front panel, but there are no mechanical buttons. To create the case, special glass was used, and metal inserts were made on the sides. The front panel has a very good external coating, which allows you to protect your new device from scratches. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the back side. If you carry the gadget in your pocket without a case, the first scratches will not be long in coming.

Display

If we compare Honor 8 and iPhone 6 in terms of display characteristics, we can conclude that Apple is slightly inferior in comparison. But you need to consider everything in detail to make the right choice.

For a more convenient comparison of two devices, the list shows two indicators for each item.

  • iPhone 6 screen type - LED-backlit. Screen type Honor 8 - IPS LCD;
  • The number of inches the “Apple” has is slightly less than that of the competing device – 4.7 inches. Honor has an indicator of 5.2 inches;
  • The screen resolution of the iOS system is also slightly inferior to its competitor - 750 x 1334 pixels. For Honor, these numbers have a value of 1080 x 1920 pixels;
  • The iPhone 6 also loses to its opponent in terms of screen density – 326 pixels, while the competitor’s density is 423 pixels;
  • The number of colors is 16777216 for both phone devices;
  • The last characteristic on this list is the presence of multi-touch, that is, the ability of the screen to accept simultaneous touches from several fingers. The iPhone doesn't have this. But Honor 8 can boast of this.

As we see, Chinese brand was able to “outdo” the iPhone in many aspects.

Sound

One of the important indicators is the sound characteristics of devices. Question about sound quality Huawei Honor 8 and iPhone 6 are quite relevant.

In terms of sound, everything on the Apple is standard - the loudspeaker is in place, the 3.5 mm headphone jack is in place. Vibration and ringtones also work. There is nothing remarkable to note here.

Honor 8 is also not ready to please its users with any original innovations and new products. There are no complaints about the standard characteristics - a good speaker, loudspeaker, headset jack, no unnecessary noise. But you shouldn’t overuse the volume; the depth of the sound is not overwhelming.

Cameras

iPhones have always held their own over the years. The quality of the captured image grew along with the model and the manufacturer was not inferior to almost any other companies producing smartphones. What did the 2014 release from Apple bring us?

First of all, behind the streamlined shell of the device there is a rather powerful 8 MP camera. The front camera has 1.2 MP. Pixel size – 1.5 microns. iPhone 6 became the owner of double LED flash. Was introduced new technology, which allows the smartphone camera to focus quickly. Guidance speed has noticeably increased.

Considering that the phone was presented in 2014, the camera characteristics are satisfactory.

The features of Honor 8 in comparison with iPhone 6 are obvious. Huawei's development is clearly in the lead here. Its dual camera has 12 megapixels. Which, for a minute, is as much as 4 MP more than what is available to the “Apple” counterpart. Honor's front camera is exactly equal to the regular iPhone camera - 8 MP. That says almost everything. The pixel size is stable – 1.5.

Among the advantages of Honor's camera, there are many different modes for photography. Thanks to this, the image is very clear and high quality. There is everything here, right down to automatic alignment of highlights and shadows.

Memory and memory card

Ever since the very first model of the famous “Apple” device appeared, users quite often had problems with a lack of space to store information. The developers didn't even bother to add a slot for additional media. This has been the case for many years and nothing has changed in 2014.

iPhone 6 is available in three versions with different sizes of internal storage. Naturally, the larger the ROM capacity, the higher the cost of the device itself. There are three options on the market to choose from - 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB. There is a choice for the user, but the RAM does not change depending on the modification - a stable 1 GB.

For those who really have a lot to record on their device, Honor 8 just allows you to supplement its internal capacity with portable media in the form of a memory card. In addition, it has a built-in memory resource - 32 or 64 GB. WITH RAM Honor is doing much better - depending on the modification, the user will receive 3 or 4 GB of RAM.

Sensors

Apple's innovation blew up the product market with its development - fingerprint unlocking. People were simply overwhelmed with excitement - everyone rushed to the stores to buy up the wonderful device. Now this won’t surprise anyone - the fingerprint scanner has become very commonplace and familiar. However, it is still popular. Therefore, the company did not slow down and continued to produce models with this sensor. iPhone 6 also boasts the ability to respond to fingerprints.

The opposition between Honor 8 vs iPhone 6 is equivalent in this regard. The Huawei model being compared also has a custom fingerprint scanner. True, they placed it not under the screen, as Apple did, but under the main camera on the rear panel, which made it much easier to use. Unlocking the device by touching the back panel is much easier than “poking” the button on the front side. In addition, Honor's scanner was equipped with the function « smart button» . A certain touch launches applications, etc. You can configure the sensor’s operation through the smartphone menu.

All other sensors are in place on both devices, so there’s not much to say here. Here's a short list for your reference:

  • Light sensor;
  • Proximity sensor;
  • Accelerometer;
  • Gyroscope;
  • Magnetic compass.

Connection

In terms of communication, everything is pretty standard for both iPhone 6 and Honor 8. They have a full set of characteristics for normal functioning. Therefore, for the first time after purchase, the user will not have problems with communication. Naturally, after some time, something may become unusable, but this happens with all gadgets and cannot be avoided. Both smartphones support the following communication standards:

  • 2G/3G;
  • GPRS;
  • MMS and SMS;
  • Works only with Nano-SIM.

If you choose Honor 8, you can get two SIM card slots and the ability to communicate on the 4G network. True, if you want to use a memory card, then you will have to give up the work of one SIM card.

Battery life and performance

We compared the two devices in all respects. It's time to deal with the “heart” of the devices. iPhone 6 runs on a Dual-core Cyclone processor with a performance of 1.4 GHz. Not so bad, right? Honor 8, unlike the iPhone, can impress with its performance much more. The Quad-core ARM Cortex-A72 CPU operates at 2.3 GHz.

Let's see what happens with autonomy. Users of Apple products have long suffered from short-term operation of their mobile devices. This is due to high performance and low battery capacity. Most often, this is precisely the reason for abandoning Apple technology and switching to other manufacturers. Therefore, it is very important to compare iPhone 6 and Honor 8 on this point.

The battery type is the same for both devices - it is a completely standard Li-Po. But the battery capacity will make you think again when choosing - Honor 8 has as much as 3000 mAh at its disposal. To boast of such success, to the greatest regret of all iPhone users, Apple company can not. The 2014 model carries only 1810 mAh. This is almost two times less than that of the competitor. Although, if you look far back at their first developments, then this can already be called a success.

operating system

Concerning operating system, serious passions have always flared up here and all users have always been divided into two types. There are those who praise the iOS system and are ready to shell out tidy sums just to get the latest gadget with this OS. And there are ordinary users of an equally popular OS called Android. The former constantly praise their system, while the latter complain about the low characteristics of the former’s system, but hardly ever praise theirs.

What are iPhone 6 and Honor 8? iPhone 6, as one might expect, runs on iOS 8, like all its Apple relatives. Honor, far from running away from its predecessors, carries the Android 6.0 system, but runs on EMUI 4.1 firmware, which makes The Honor smartphone is unlike other Android smartphones and very similar to iOS devices.

Here the choice will depend on what type the buyer considers himself to be: the first or the second.

Price

Last on the list, but by no means least important, is the price threshold of the product. Nobody ever wants to overpay. What to choose: Honor 8 or iPhone 6?

You can't expect Apple manufacturers to ever release anything with a budget price. But they always keep their brand, just as they keep their high pricing policy. The 2014 iPhone 6 model fluctuates in price depending on the size of the built-in memory, as mentioned above. Behind mobile phone with the smallest memory capacity of 16 GB, you will have to pay about 350 bucks. For the “largest” relative in terms of memory, the buyer must pay about 500 bucks.

Honor has never been released to the market at an inflated price. So this time the Honor 8 model appeared on the market in a very pleasant price category– less than $200. The specific price depends on the size of the built-in memory. But don’t forget about the possibility of using a removable memory card, so a gadget with the smallest capacity may well be suitable for an ordinary user who hopes to save money. There is no overpayment for the brand, which has a positive impact on the price category.

Conclusion

Based on our detailed review, even the most inexperienced user will be able to determine which is better: Honor 8 or iPhone 6. Undoubtedly, there are points in which one can safely give preference to Apple, but there are also points on which Honor is clearly ahead. Here you need to make a choice based only on personal preferences.

Are you a fan of laconic design? good sound or iOS systems? Then welcome to the ranks of the happy owners of iPhone 6. But if you have a love for high-quality photographs and capacious battery, then, undoubtedly, Honor 8 will meet your expectations and will become a good companion on any trip or even an ordinary walk.

A number of objective prerequisites for trying something new.

Despite the fact that the new inexpensive handsome guy Huawei Honor 8 fell into my hands even before the presentation, I deliberately postponed its review until later. It was important for me to understand whether chinese smartphone, which is actually half the price of an American, wipe his nose.

As it turns out, the G8 has plenty of features that make it a desirable purchase. Highlighted ten most interesting.

1. Great design from the future of Apple

Experts, analysts, insiders and others are confident that after the iPhone 7, Apple will abandon the two-year smartphone update cycle in favor of a one-year one. If this information turns out to be true, already in 2017 we will see the iPhone 8, the main feature of which will be the abundance of glass in the body design.

Honor 8 offers something similar today. The front and back sides of the smartphone are covered with protective glass, which not only looks great, but also gives interesting tactile sensations.

2. Dual camera, available only to phablets

Apple began differentiating the iPhone since the days of the Six. Then the company released two smartphones in different sizes, which received differences in functional content. The phablet was equipped with optical stabilization, but its younger brother was not.

The manufacturer continued this with the release of the “seven”. Only now the Plus version is equipped with a cool dual camera with a interesting tricks, which are not available to fans of compact smartphones.

At the same time, Huawei offers a similar solution in a relatively compact form factor, that makes him an excellent alternative for the “stripped down” iPhone 7.

3. There is an output for standard 3.5 headphones

The vast majority of users perceived the lack of a traditional 3.5 audio output in the iPhone 7 with an incredible amount of skepticism. Of course, the interface has already outlived its usefulness, but not everyone can abandon it too abruptly.

I’m sure, like me, you also have two or three pairs of favorite 3.5 headphones that you want to fully use - without adapters and other “crutches”. Honor 8 gives you this opportunity.

4. Equipment control panel with infrared port

No iPhone had an IR blaster. Of course, he did not appear in the “seven”. Apple is confident that this technology is hopelessly outdated. And there is some truth in this - using it to transfer files from device to device, which was popular in the 90s, is absolutely pointless.

However, the infrared port is great for controlling various household appliances. For these purposes, Huawei and special application preinstalled - the number of devices it supports has been successfully tested by several electronics supermarkets.

5. Larger screen with comparable dimensions

I have no idea why you need to know the dimensions of the case from edge to edge and its weight. Instead, I’ll note that the device fits quite well in the hand - definitely not worse than iPhone 6s, which is almost exactly the same as the iPhone 7. The dimensions are comparable, so their perception is extremely similar.

At the same time, Honor 8 bigger screen, which is an absolute plus - the manufacturer managed use space efficiently front panel of the smartphone.

6. The camera module does not protrude above the body

Because of this, the mobile device is not only looks more mature in terms of design, but also doesn’t play “swing” with you if you put it on the table.

7. Fashionable deep blue and white body colors

The device I tested was gold, but it also comes in black, white, and blue. The last couple are especially interesting.

Another six months before iPhone release 7 insiders said that the device will receive two new colors - black and blue. Instead of the second, it surprised us with a couple of options for the first - a strange solution, and a competitive option in this regard looks clearly better.

With presentation of ceramic Apple Watch Series 2 in white, many realized that this is the color of the smartphone they want to hold in their hands. Nothing like this can happen with the iPhone, but a competitor offers it all today.

8. Convenient location of the fingerprint sensor

The front-facing Touch ID fingerprint sensor was only useful on the iPhone 5s. Already with the advent of the “six”, I repeatedly wondered why not transfer it to a much more comfortable spot on the back of the case.

And Huawei agrees with me - unlocking a smartphone with it in this position is very convenient.

9. Dual SIM cards or memory card up to 256 GB

Despite the abundance of rumors that told us about the possibility of working with two SIM cards in the iPhone 7, none of them came true.

It’s a pity, because switching between operators when traveling abroad, as well as within the country, is very, very convenient. Eg, during regular business trips I very often come across a situation where one operator offers high-quality Internet at a reasonable cost, and the second offers normal communication. You have to choose one thing.

Honor 8 in this case offers both the ability to use two SIMs and the option to replace one of them with a memory card up to 256 GB.

10. Low cost without overpayments for the name

Honor 8 will cost RUB 27,990 , you can take a couple for iPhone price 7 - blue for yourself and white for your other half. You won't be disappointed.

Subjective objectivism - instead of conclusion

In my use cases, the inexpensive new product from Huawei turned out to be an excellent alternative to the iPhone. Of course, due to duty I will still have to take the “seven”, but I will try to supplement it with this inexpensive alternative. American “black onyx” and white Chinese- not a bad pair, right?
