Most people know that through 2G, 3G, 4G networks they connect to mobile internet. But not all subscribers are aware that voice calls are also made through them.

It is important to understand that all mobile network standards differ in bandwidth. This fact affects the quality of voice transmission when making calls. Naturally, if 2G networks are used, the operator has to compress the signal to ensure a stable connection.

For years, companies transmitted signals primarily over 3G networks. They provide good quality connection, but in practice the sound is far from perfect. Now operators are starting to gradually introduce calls over 4G networks, and MTS was one of the first.

VoLTE in Russia

VoLTE from MTS operates only in a limited number of regions. It is better to check the availability of this service in your city directly with company representatives. Operators are trying to expand the list of regions, but in order to provide the VoLTE function to customers, it is necessary to carry out additional work on mobile networks.

By the way, MTS is a leader in this direction. On this moment, this company provides the service in the largest number of regions and significantly outperforms its competitors. The organization plans to continue developing networks in order to switch to the new standard throughout the country as quickly as possible.

VoLTE from MTS

The VoLTE inscription from MTS means that the voice signal is transmitted through the most modern standard. But to use the service, several conditions must be met:

  • Networks in your region have been upgraded and your operator is officially providing this feature.
  • There is a stable 4G signal.
  • Your smartphone supports this technology.

Most phone manufacturers currently do not indicate the presence of VoLTE, since this feature is still little known. Therefore, the operator has prepared a list of smartphones that support this technology. You can view it on the page https://moskva.mts.ru/personal/connect/.

Advantages and disadvantages

Why is it necessary at all? this function? To answer this question, we list the advantages of the technology:

  • connection with the called subscriber is much faster and takes less than two seconds;
  • Provides HD sound quality during a conversation;
  • You can simultaneously make a voice call and use the mobile Internet;
  • calls are charged at the regular price, in accordance with your plan;
  • you can call to other cities and states at the same cost as within your home region;
  • Additionally, the operator offers to use Wi-Fi to make calls. You can call another subscriber even if there is no MTS mobile network;
  • The operator has debugged the synchronization between 4G and Wi-Fi. When you connect your phone to an access point, the call is transferred to the broadband Internet. Interruption of conversation and signal interruptions during this operation are eliminated.

Additionally, let's look at the disadvantages:

  • The service is currently not available in all regions. But the operator is trying to introduce this technology in large cities;
  • VoLTE is not supported by all devices. If your device cannot make voice calls over 4G, the service will not be available;
  • In many cities, LTE network coverage is unstable. Often the smartphone switches to 3G, as indicated by an icon on the screen, and this fact can become a problem when using this option.

The main thing is that VoLTE is provided free of charge. You will not have to pay extra for this service, you will be able to use it freely and save on calls. Calls are billed according to your tariff plan.

How to connect VoLTE MTS?

You can enable VoLTE MTS by activating the “Internet calls” option. It includes not only VoLTE, but also calls via Wi-Fi and through the proprietary MTS Connect application. Subscription fee not available for this service.

You can activate the option in the following ways:

  1. IN personal account on the official site.
  2. In the operator's application My MTS.
  3. Using the command *111*6#.
  4. Call the customer support center.

IN additional settings the option is not needed. If the service is available to you, then it should work immediately after activation.

How to disable VoLTE on your phone?

You can disable VoLTE MTS in one of the following ways:

What to do if VoLTE MTS does not work?

If you encounter problems with VoLTE, you must:

  1. Check for 4G signal.
  2. Check the current status of the Internet calls service.
  3. Check if your smartphone supports this technology.

If you cannot find the cause of the problem yourself, it is better to call contact center operator. Experts will help you understand this situation and find a solution.

High quality of data exchange, including voice, in wireless networks implies, first of all, stability and high speed of information transfer. Work to improve the quality of mobile networks is ongoing and it should be noted that over the past few years a lot of success has been achieved in this area. Newer and more advanced communication standards are becoming available, for example, Long Term Evolution or LTE for short. This standard is also known as 4G.

According to the specification, the maximum speed that 3G networks can provide is 42 Mb/s, but in reality it rarely exceeds 2-3 Mb/s, while the fourth generation network already allows data transfer at speeds of about 20 Mb/s, a clear example what is the Moscow LTE network Megafon. LTE/4G is also good because it is fully compatible with 3G based on UMTS/HSPA and CDMA, which allows its implementation without significant infrastructure reconstruction. But LTE also has its drawbacks, of which perhaps the main one is the lack of support for telephone voice communications.

VoLTE – what is it and how does it work?

To make calls, the user can switch to 3G, but this is not an option. Instead of returning to outdated standards, it is better to use a new technology called VoLTE. But what is VoLTE? The closest analogy to this new standard is Skype. In VoLTE, as in Skype, voice is transmitted not over switch channels, but over the Internet. In short, VoLTE is a voice transmission technology over an LTE network that allows you to make calls at high speeds while taking full advantage of the fourth generation network.

But that's not all. Previously, when making a voice call, the operator transferred the subscriber from LTE mode in 2G or 3G using the widely used Circuit-Switched Fallback (CSFB) technology.

When the user ended the call, their phone automatically switched to LTE. This time-tested method, however, has a number of disadvantages. In particular, the use of CSFB created unnecessary load on the mobile network, and also increased the connection time between the user and the subscriber, although neither the caller nor the recipient of the call, as a rule, noticed this. With LTE everything is much faster and simpler, because now calls are made within the network itself.

Advantages and disadvantages of the standard

Although VoLTE technology is still in its development stage at the moment, its advantages are quite obvious. These include:

  • More high speed connection, achieved by eliminating the need to switch the mobile device to GSM or 3G when making a call.
  • Higher voice quality. The data transmission speed in 2G and 3G networks is limited, which does not allow the transmission of voice modulation components in full. The throughput of LTE is much higher, more voice data is transmitted through such a network, and the use of HD Voice codecs gives volume to the sound and reduces the amount of noise.
  • With VoLTE, simultaneous transmission of voice and other data is possible. In 2G and 3G networks, when making calls, the transmission of Internet traffic was usually temporarily suspended. This is due to the fact that with the simultaneous transmission of voice and other data, the quality of communication sharply decreased, while the load on the network, on the contrary, increased. VoLTE does not have these restrictions.
  • Increasing capacity cellular networks. The use of VoLTE technology allows you to increase the number of simultaneously using communications subscribers up to three times compared to 3G without significantly increasing the load on the network.
  • Free calls. Since voice is transmitted in packet mode when using VoLTE, only Internet traffic is consumed. If the user is connected to unlimited tariff, all calls he makes can be considered practically free.
  • Save battery power. The VoLTE standard provides a special DRX mode, which ensures reception of a base station signal with short interruptions. During such breaks, the device's radio is turned off, therefore, battery consumption is reduced.

These were the main advantages of VoLTE. On the other hand, it has its own number of disadvantages, due to which users often abandon the new technology. At the moment, the main disadvantages include:

  • Increased demands on the hardware resources of a mobile phone. The VoLTE operating algorithm must be implemented at the processor level; if the requirements do not meet, the load on the mobile device may increase.
  • Limited number of phone models supporting VoLTE. The new technology is supported only by the latest models of mobile devices.
  • To ensure the stated sound quality, VoLTE must be used by both the caller and the recipient of the call.
  • Difficulties in transition to a new standard by operators mobile communications. It will be possible to take advantage of VoLTE only after all operators decide to make the standard the main one.
  • VoLTE is not supported by all operators or in all regions due to the lack of appropriate equipment on the towers.
  • Vulnerabilities in VoLTE technology.
  • The standard may not be available on the intranet or international roaming.

How to enable VoLTE on your phone

The use of the new standard is possible subject to two main conditions. Firstly, your operator must support it, and secondly, the standard must be supported by itself mobile device. Everything is more or less clear with the operator; to find out whether it supports the new standard or not, just call the support service. Now let's see what VoLTE is in a phone. This is an option that can be enabled manually or automatically in the mobile settings. If your phone does not have this option, VoLTE is not supported either by the firmware or the device.

Currently, VoLTE is supported by more than thirty smartphone models from leading manufacturers. Among them are iPhone, LG, Vertex Saturn, Samsung Galaxy, Sony Xperia and ZTE. How to enable/disable VoLTE? It all depends on the device model. On the iPhone, for example, the VoLTE standard is enabled in the settings Cellular – Data Options – Enable LTE – Voice and Data.

To enable the option in Samsung Galaxy, you need to follow the chain Settings – Connections – Mobile networks– VoLTE calls. In LG smartphones you need to go to Settings, and then follow the path Networks – Advanced – Mobile networks – VoLTE. VoLTE is disabled in the same place where it was enabled.

Development prospects

Despite the many difficulties and obstacles faced in the implementation of VoLTE, the future of the new technology seems very promising, especially considering that the advent of 5G networks is just around the corner. The main obstacle to the development of the standard - the lack of an appropriate legal framework in Russian legislation - has already been successfully eliminated, and now the matter is up to the leading mobile operators, as well as the users themselves.

However, one should not expect rapid spread of VoLTE, especially in the regions. There are still too few devices in the hands of cellular network subscribers that can work with this technology; secondly, there is still no complete and final agreement between operators regarding the transition to a single standard. The victory of VoLTE can only be expected if uniform principles are created and adopted by all operators, and also provided that the standard manages to withstand competition with services providing OTT voice services.

Digital technologies are developing very quickly, and one of the striking examples of such progress is VoLTE, however, few people know what it is in a phone.

In fact, this is a very useful communication standard in our time that works in cellular networks. Notably, it is fully compatible with 3G and .

But this is all theory and dry facts. To understand what we are talking about and why such a standard is needed at all, it is necessary to understand all its features. This is what we'll do!

Designation

VoLTE fully stands for "Voice over Long Term Evolution", which translates to “voice through long-term development.” It consists of two parts - “Vo” and “LTE”.

Nowadays, more and more cities around the world are actively using 3G. We connect the Internet through this standard.

So, there is 4G or 4G LTE. The Internet is also connected through this standard. In more formal terms, it is a method of transmitting data.

Everything is very simple.

Now let's talk about How did this technology come about and what is its purpose?

A little bit of history

The first full-fledged release of VolTE is dated May 2014. Then SingTel, which is based in Singapore, introduced the service in question.

At that time, it only worked in Singapore and did not extend to other countries. Moreover, at first he worked on a single phone - .

SingTel is very popular all over the world. There are 37 offices of this company in Asia, Europe and the USA. It is a sponsor of the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix.

SingTel's main areas of activity are cellular communications, Internet technologies and the so-called Fixed Network.

In addition to the technology under consideration, . This is a little information for your reference.

Let's return to the development of VoLTE.

Already in June 2014, a mobile operator in South Korea began to provide CT using this standard.

After the merger with China Mobile, CT continued to provide the highest quality roaming in the world at that time. Over time, KPN and iBasis began to offer the same service.

November of the same year marked another major event in the history of VoLTE.

Then Verizon and AT&T announced that they would jointly introduce a connection using Voice over LTE between subscribers who are ready to connect to such a service.

And this event really happened in 2015.

After this, more and more countries are introducing the use of the standard in question.

Today, very few countries have full support for voice transmission over LTE networks - as of November 2017, there are only 9 of them.

At the same time, in such technically “advanced” countries as Germany, Canada and France, the implementation of the standard is only being planned.

It is absolutely unclear why other countries and mobile operators are in no hurry to use VoLTE.

Perhaps this has something to do with the cost of equipment or a banal lack of specialists who could do this.

Why is VoLTE needed?

There are at least three reasons why specialists from Singapore decided to create a new data transfer standard:

  • Faster call making. The fact is that any device will be able to make a call much faster if it has 4G connected. It does not waste time switching to 3G, which is usually about 2-3 seconds. Previously, it was impossible to make calls with 4G and smartphones and tablets required time to switch to 3G when the user wanted to make a call. But with the advent of the ability to transmit voice using 4G, all operations began to be performed much faster.
  • Higher quality of communication. The point is that the sound quality has also become much higher with the advent of the technology in question. Users began to hear each other many times better. This is really important in this day and age.
  • Saving data transfer while making a call. Surely, 4G users have repeatedly encountered the problem when they receive a call and the Internet turns off. Now this won't happen.

In general, there was definitely a point in new developments and the emergence of new technology, by and large, was a matter of time.

It is worth saying that VoLTE has many advantages, but there are also disadvantages. Let's talk about them.

Advantages

In addition to higher communication quality and , 4G has the following positive aspects:

1 Increasing network capacity. If we talk in simple language, here it is implied that the number of subscribers for one station increases. For those who are not in the know, let's say that all subscribers mobile operators served by base stations. So, when 3G is used, the number of subscribers at each base station is less than when using VoLTE, and by as much as 3 times. Usually, due to the overload of such stations, there were interruptions in communication and other problems of the same type.

2 Now you can make calls completely free of charge. This is a unique advantage that is achieved by using this type of network. The fact is that 4G does not provide for a switching connection at all, which means that you do not need to pay for the corresponding communications. Voice is transmitted through the same system through which other types of data are transmitted, roughly speaking, over the Internet. Therefore, if the subscriber uses unlimited Internet, he won’t pay a penny for calls.

Speaking of the latter, it is worth noting that calls will be free even to those subscribers who use 2G and 3G.

In any case, if the Internet is unlimited, you will not pay anything.

It seems impossible, but it's true!

At the same time, in earlier AMR-NB services. Even without understanding these terms, you can easily understand that in 4G everything is much better and the voice is “purer”.

In this world, unfortunately, everything is imperfect, so Voice over LTE also has shortcomings, and for some they will be very significant. Let's move on to the negative.

Flaws

Experts highlight three negative points, namely:

Accordingly, more energy is needed to operate the device, that is, more capacious battery. Or you will need to charge it more often or. However, today all such gadgets are “famous” for their terrible battery capacity. At best, after six months of using the device, you will have to charge it every day. But if the user also uses VoLTE, over time a full battery charge will last for half a day or even less. You will have to change batteries quite often or use all sorts of ways to achieve reduced energy consumption(disabling applications and services, cleaning, etc.).

2 The need for a general transition to the new standard by all mobile operators. To ensure normal operation, it is necessary that each operator decides to use 4G and this standard becomes the main one. The problem is that connecting 4G subscribers with 3G and 2G subscribers is a complex procedure that requires the fulfillment of a large number of conditions. For example, it is necessary that the area has appropriate equipment. A third drawback is related to this.

3 In areas where there are no LTE stations, there will be no connection at all unless you manually switch to 3G. Actually, today there are very few such towers, so, unfortunately, people who decide to use new technologies will often have to switch from one standard to another.

In truth, until the moment when the necessary base stations they will be everywhere, still very far away.

As we said above, very few operators in a small number of countries have decided to switch to the new standard.

Let's summarize everything that has been said.

Results

So, VoLTE is a new communication standard, a technology for voice transmission using LTE networks.

In the networks that were used previously, this was not possible.

Among other things, the use of such a standard makes it possible to achieve higher voice quality during transmission, as well as a complete abolition of charges for calls.

The reason for the latter is that there is no switching involved.

The technology also has disadvantages. For example, the load on the device () becomes greater. Accordingly, it will need to be charged more often.

In addition, for the normal application of the standard, it is necessary that all mobile operators begin to switch to it. Today, unfortunately, this is unlikely.

And yet Voice over LTE has excellent development prospects!

VoLTE support is one of the characteristics of a smartphone that is increasingly being talked about at presentations. Today we will tell you what this function is and why it is needed.

VoLTE is a technology that allows voice transmission over 4G networks. This is one of the standards that emerged as a result of improving communication channels. Remember, initially mobile phones were designed only for calls. Even the SMS messaging function appeared a little later.

Over time, phones began to support new data transfer standards, including GPRS. However, voice calls remained the priority format for communicating via telephone. Now everything has changed.

Users are increasingly resorting to high-speed communication standards that allow data to be transferred as quickly as possible. Commercial fourth-generation networks (LTE) are focused on traffic, while voice transmission has so far been carried out over 2G or 3G. Until recently there were no other options. But then VoLTE came along.

Now our smartphones constantly switch between different communication standards, moving either to the Internet traffic transmission channel or to the voice communication zone. These manipulations significantly affect the performance and battery level. discharges quickly. And VoLTE will solve the problem, since you can communicate and transfer data through one communication channel.

Support for VoLTE technology does not require the smartphone to constantly switch between old networks. Purely theoretically, new technology will allow in the future to completely abandon 2G and 3G equipment.

Main advantages of VoLTE:

  • Instant connection. No need to switch to another standard speeds up the connection with the subscriber. Sometimes the speed gain reaches 30 seconds.
  • Free communication. Since calling via VoLTE involves the use of Internet traffic, you only need to pay for the Internet. By activating an unlimited package, you can communicate by phone around the clock. And all this will be free.
  • Improving communication quality. The 3G connection significantly spoils the sound quality and does not allow it to be transmitted perfectly. The new standard will eliminate extraneous noise and will make the sound more spacious.
  • Increasing the capacity of cellular networks. 3G bases are designed for a limited number of subscribers. Exceeding this indicator leads to deterioration in signal quality. The capacity of LTE equipment is three times higher than that of third-generation networks and six times higher than that of second-generation networks.
  • Possibility of simultaneous transmission of traffic and voice. Currently, when talking on the phone, the Internet connection is disconnected. Receiving traffic will resume only after the subscriber hangs up. VoLTE doesn't have this problem. Therefore, data exchange will continue even during a phone conversation.

Unfortunately, fourth-generation networks are still not widespread in Russia, although voice transmission technology over LTE is actively developing in other countries of the world. Progress is imperceptible and slow. Providers and operators cellular communication Fourth generation networks are gradually being launched, but more often this happens only within Moscow.

If you bought a smartphone with VoLTE support, but this technology is not available in your region, you should not deactivate the module. The function does not consume battery battery and does not require additional resources from the device.

At the moment, when choosing a smartphone, this option is not a priority. It’s worth paying attention to VoLTE support if you often travel or live in Moscow. Thanks to the new standard, you will experience a completely different quality of communication, and also appreciate the increased autonomy of your phone due to economical battery consumption.

If you are the owner modern smartphone, you’ve probably heard of, and maybe even actively use, the new high-speed wireless communication standard called LTE, or as it is commonly referred to as 4G. LTE is being actively implemented by all major mobile operators almost all over the world, so it is becoming more relevant every day. In Russia, for example, 4G coverage has already exceeded 50% of the territory and continues to grow rapidly. At the beginning of 2020, the covered surface area of 4G and VoLTE with LTE is 78%.

However, few users think about exactly how LTE works, which can this technology what advantages and limitations it has. But there really are limitations, and the most significant of them, in our opinion, is the inability to make regular phone calls. Yes, that's right, you heard right. The fact is that LTE was originally developed only for high-speed data transmission and voice transmission is simply not provided for in these networks.

However, such a problem could not remain unresolved for long and such a function as VoLTE began to appear in new smartphones. Today, the technology is still quite young, but some of the capabilities of communication that are familiar to us, such as dual VoLTE, that is, working with two SIM cards simultaneously, as well as VoLTE roaming are available now. Our article today will tell you what VoLTE is, as well as what advantages it has.

History of VoLTE development

As you may have noticed, VoLTE is not a proper name, in fact it is an abbreviation for the words Voice over LTE, which can be translated into Russian as “Voice over LTE”. Actually, the name of the technology contains its main purpose. Since fourth generation networks were not originally intended to transmit voice messages in the traditional way, to realize this opportunity it is necessary to introduce additional technology capable of transmitting voice as a data stream.

VoLTE technology not only allows you to make calls over 4G, but it also takes full advantage of the next generation network, allowing you to get three times the voice capacity compared to the previous generation network and as much as six times the capacity compared to the second generation networks. The closest analogue of VoLTE in terms of operating principle is the famous Skype, where voice transmission is carried out not through switch channels, but via the Internet.

VoLTE technology was first used commercially by the Singaporean mobile operator SingTel in May 2014. It is noteworthy that at that time the service was compatible with only one smartphone, namely Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and was also only available in Singapore. However, in June of the same year, the South Korean operator KT and its Chinese partner China Mobile organized the world's first cross-border VoLTE roaming, which significantly contributed to the development of the technology. From that moment on, the popularity of VoLTE began to grow like a snowball, and soon voice services on the 4G network began to be implemented by large mobile operators almost all over the world.

It is logical to ask the question, which Russian operators support VoLTE? Many may be surprised, but the new standard came to us almost as soon as it appeared, namely in August 2015. Exactly then mobile operator Beeline launched voice services via 4G in Moscow for the first time. Then the initiative was picked up by other large companies and thus MegaFon organized its own similar service in September 2016, followed by Tele2 in April 2017. A significant disadvantage of this service for a long time was that it was available only on the territory of Moscow and those close to it settlements. However, since March 2018 large operator Mobile communications MTS has launched a campaign to promote VoLTE not only in the capital and large cities, but throughout Russia. At the moment, the service is available in ten areas and coverage continues to grow.

VoLTE also received significant support from manufacturers mobile phones. If a few years ago only the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 could offer such an option, today more than eighteen manufacturers support voice transmission over LTE. And if you consider that each company provides at least several compatible models, then the number of smartphones with VoLTE already exceeds several dozen devices. It is also worth noting that progress does not stand still and models equipped with dual VoLTE are gradually appearing on sale. In particular, one of the first such devices was the brand new Samsung Galaxy S9.

If your current smartphone does not support VoLTE, then there is no need to rush to the store and buy a new one. The technology is quite young and it will still take quite some time before its widespread implementation. However, if you were going to buy one way or another new smartphone in the near future, then make sure that it supports voice communication via 4G, this will obviously be completely useful.

Why is VoLTE needed?

Users very often ask a question that sounds like: “VoLTE, what is this on the phone?” Above, we have already partially answered what VoLTE itself is, but it would be completely useful to explain how it all works and why it is actually needed.

And so, we have already noted several times that on our own LTE networks They transmit only data, but do not transmit regular voice calls. However, many will disagree, because we use LTE every day, but at the same time we receive and make calls without any problems. So everything works like that? Not really. When outgoing or incoming call 4G is turned off and the smartphone is switched to 3G or 2G mode, and a connection with your subscriber is established in these networks. In other words, during telephone conversation you stop receiving any Internet traffic. Packet data from services is not received, messages from instant messengers and social networks, and so on. Even the very fact of switching between 4G and 3G causes many negative effects, such as, for example, additional load on the operator’s network and significantly more long installation connections between subscribers, and in some cases it can even reach 20 seconds.

The VoLTE function in a smartphone allows you to avoid all the unwanted effects described above, since the call is made directly through LTE. This means that Internet traffic continues to flow and a connection between subscribers now takes a matter of seconds. This technology also allows us to solve several problems that are less obvious to the user. Thanks to three times higher network capacity, the load on one relay tower is greatly reduced, which in turn allows it to be used by a much larger number of subscribers. In addition, in new generation networks, sound transmission is significantly improved, which makes the voice of your interlocutor deeper and clearer, and all extraneous annoying noise disappears.

Today, 4G calls within the network of one operator are very easy and fast. However, you may still experience problems with VoLTE roaming. Therefore, for now, you can only get the maximum effect from new generation communications if all your friends and colleagues use the services of one operator.

Advantages

Each new technology necessarily carries with it a number of advantages and certain disadvantages. VoLTE is no exception in this regard, and therefore we are obliged to draw your attention to this issue. Throughout the article we have already mentioned some of the features of the new communication standard, but now it is time to highlight the main ones and talk about them in more detail. Traditionally, we will first touch on the advantages of new technology, especially since there is a lot to talk about here.

  1. High connection speed. Without the need to switch between 3G and 2G networks, VoLTE calls happen in just a few seconds. In addition, the new generation network, in principle, establishes a connection faster than previous generation networks, since the connection occurs directly.
  2. Simultaneous voice and data transmission. The second significant advantage of this technology is the ability to simultaneously transmit voice calls and traffic. Without the use of VoLTE, the transmission of other data along with voice greatly reduced the quality of communication, and the load on the network increased significantly. Thus, during voice calls, data transmission stopped.
  3. High quality sound for calls. Even best smartphones could not provide ideal call quality on the 3G network, since the maximum speed for voice transmission in third generation networks was limited to 16 kilobits per second. Using VoLTE can significantly improve the sound quality of the interlocutor’s voice, add depth to it, and also remove all extraneous noise.
  4. Increasing the capacity of cellular networks. Because the new communications standard provides three times the data capacity, it allows more subscribers to share a single cell base station without having to switch to nearby towers.
  5. Save battery power. When constantly switching between networks, the smartphone consumed additional energy from its battery. When synchronization with VoLTE is enabled, this allows you not to waste power on additional actions.

Flaws

The technology also has certain disadvantages that have not yet been eliminated. Compared to the advantages, they are not so significant, however, they can significantly affect the user, so it is better to be aware of their presence.

  1. Increased system requirements. The VoLTE operating algorithm is implemented at the smartphone processor level, so for optimal performance To achieve this feature, VoLTE-enabled smartphones must have a relatively powerful CPU.
  2. Limited number of compatible smartphones. Today, not all mobile devices support the new voice communication standard. Thus, only owners of certain brands of phones will be able to use VoLTE.
  3. Subscriber compatibility. To ensure high quality sound, VoLTE must be used not only by you, but also by your interlocutor.
  4. Difficulties in transition. Today, not all operators are ready to provide voice communication services over 4G, and not throughout the entire country.
  5. Problems with roaming. Today, the new standard still works quite poorly in intranet and international roaming, and the full implementation of this feature will still take some time.

Like any other new technology, VoLTE carries with it a certain amount of shortcomings. However, progress cannot be stopped and there is absolutely no point in refusing to use the new standard. Switching to VoLTE now means getting all the benefits today that others will only get tomorrow.

Results

Today, voice transmission technology in 4G networks is still quite young and its implementation will still take quite a lot of time. Thus, if you don’t have VoLTE in your phone, then you shouldn’t worry too much about it just yet. Although, if you live in Moscow or near the capital, then today you will be able to experience all the advantages of the new standard; in addition, sooner or later, conversations over LTE will become as familiar to us as conversations on 3G networks. Therefore, if you are planning to buy yourself new phone, then you will definitely want to know which smartphones support the VoLTE function. Dual VoLTE and VoLTE roaming are already available to us, which means buying a new device without VoLTE today means limiting your own capabilities in the near future.

How to enable VoLTE on a Xiaomi smartphone?

Today almost everything is new Xiaomi models compatible with VoLTE and this is, in fact, one of the few manufacturers that supports the new communication standard to such an extent. However, many Xiaomi smartphone owners do not know how to enable VoLTE on their devices. In fact, enabling and synchronizing VoLTE on Xiaomi phones is done in just a few simple steps.

  1. We go to the settings of the smartphone.
  2. Select the section " SIM cards and mobile networks».
  3. In the menu that opens, select “ Enable VoLTE" and move the slider to the " mode Disabled».
