Smartphone Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro is one of the hottest offerings from the Chinese company today. It is sold at an affordable price, looks good, and at the same time offers good quality filling. It is not surprising that it became a real bestseller not only in China, but also in Russia. The Redmi Note 3 Pro smartphone is sold simultaneously with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, which has a number of significant differences. In this material we will talk about the strengths and weaknesses Redmi Note 3 Pro, we’ll tell you what the main difference with Redmi Note 3 is, and we’ll also determine the best model.

For smartphones we would like to thank the online store GearBest.com. At the time of writing, Redmi Note 3 and Redmi Note 3 Pro are sold there at comparable prices: 16-GB modifications cost about 10 thousand rubles, and for 32 GB versions they ask for 11-12 thousand rubles (with cashback even lower). We are testing versions with 3/32 GB of memory. In Russia, Svyaznoy sells Redmi Note 3 Pro (powered by Snapdragon) with 16 and 32 GB of memory for 18 and 20 thousand rubles.

Video review

Design and screen

The phones are sold in three color options: black (black front and dark gray back), silver (white front and light gray back) and gold (golden front and back). The equipment for smartphones is identical: charging, documentation, cable. I would like to see some kind of cover in the box, but Xiaomi prefers to make money on them by selling them separately. The choice is large.

Appearance Redmi Note 3 Pro is completely identical to Redmi Note 3, which was released earlier. Of the differences, it is worth highlighting only the different assembly features. For example, the Pro version has minimal gaps between the glass and the sides, the keys are clearer, and the camera glass and flash are recessed into the body (they are not flush, like the regular Redmi Note 3, that is, they are more difficult to scratch). At the same time, the plastic inserts on the back of the Redmi Note 3 Pro are less neat, and the metal cover is slightly dented. Obviously, the technical process has been improved, but the budget nature of the device still makes itself felt. By the way, there is no official Pro version. Both devices are called Redm Note 3, but for the sake of distinction, the later model released on Snapdragon (with the help of online stores) acquired such a postscript.

From design features The Redmi Note 3 family includes an IR port on the top, a scanner on the back and a SIM tray on the left. Using an IR transmitter you can control home appliances - not the most useful feature, but many users are happy that Xiaomi is implementing it (because it sells household appliances). Although the scanner is located on the back, it is easy to interact with thanks to the recess. By the way, the manufacturer claims the same finger unlock speed (0.3 sec), but in fact Redmi Note 3 Pro wakes up from standby mode faster, and Redmi Note 3 responds faster to the finger when the lock screen is already active. Finally, the SIM tray. The Redmi Note 3 can only hold two SIM cards, while the Redmi Note 3 Pro can use a microSD memory card instead of a second SIM card.

The multimedia speaker is located at the rear, but does not overlap much on the surface. The speaker is cleaner on the Redmi Note 3 Pro, but louder on the Redmi Note 3. The characteristics of the smartphone screens are no different: 5.5” diagonal, Full HD resolution, pixel density 401 ppi. Since IPS matrices are used (maybe even from different suppliers), there is a slight spread in temperature: the Redmi Note 3 has a green screen, while the Redmi Note 3 Pro has a pink screen. In the settings there is a white balance adjustment slider, but there are only three positions and it is impossible to set the same WB. The brightness is sufficient outdoors, and in the dark the backlight can be set to a minimum that is comfortable for the eyes. The Redmi Note 3 has more brightness reserves. Both devices have pleasant color rendering, high viewing angles, and an oleophobic coating.

Software

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro (codename Kenzo) is officially sold outside of China, so there is official global firmware for it with Russian language and Google services. Redmi Note 3 (codenamed Henessy) has not received such attention, but it also does not lack firmware. The review was done on Redmi Note 3 with official English-Chinese stable firmware and manually installed Google services (by the way, they do not crash after OTA updates), and on Redmi Note 3 Pro with global stable firmware. The interface, services and applications (minus the purely Chinese services of the Redmi Note 3) are identical. However, if you do not enjoy the process of installing all kinds of software, then your clear choice is Redmi Note 3 Pro. Less headaches with it.

Sound in headphones

The difference in sound is due to the chipsets: MediaTek Helio X10 in the case of Redmi Note 3 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 in the case of Redmi Note 3 Pro. There are no dedicated DACs or amplifiers, so the sound is processed by integrated codecs. Redmi Note 3 Pro plays louder out of the box Snapdragon processor, but raising the volume on Redmi Note 3 is very easy via engineering menu(*#*#3646633#*#* in the dialer, then Hardware Testing-Audio-Headset Mode). As for the sound quality, the Pro version played better with the Denon D600 headphones. It's cleaner and has a wider stage. Although neither one nor the other can be recommended to audiophiles: lower frequencies are played out sluggishly, details tend to mix into mush.

Camera

Oh, this is a very interesting point. Redmi Note 3 uses a 13-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture, phase focus, and dual multi-colored flash. Redmi Note 3 Pro uses a fresh 16-megapixel sensor, the aperture is f/2.0, phase focus, and the flash is also dual-tone. The cameras focus at the same speed, not instantly, but fast enough not to annoy you. The shots are also taken, plus or minus, the same way. However, the results are strikingly different. Take a look:

Redmi Note 3 and Redmi Note 3 Pro:

I’m more than sure that you expected the total superiority of Redmi Note 3 Pro, based on the fact that it has a fresh sensor, higher resolution and wider aperture. In fact, it does something unimaginable with green objects and regularly sets incorrect white balance. The algorithms of Redmi Note 3 are also far from ideal, and the first thing that caught my eye when I looked through the footage was that one half of the frames was pale, the other was too contrasty. So there is parity in the quality of the main cameras, since both are prone to errors in color rendition, and there is equally a lot of noise in poor conditions. However, I note that all photos were taken with the contrast, saturation and clarity settings at the average level (by default), although these parameters can be adjusted to achieve the optimal result (it is curious that the MediaTek version has only three options for each parameter, while the Snapdragon has seven each).

Redmi Note 3 and Redmi Note 3 Pro

Front cameras with a resolution of 5 megapixels and f/2.0 aperture. Both give blurry selfies even on the street in good light. This is not the level of its closest strong competitors, since the same ZUK Z1 and Meizu M3 Note take better photographs (with both cameras).

Video recording on both smartphones is not worthy of praise. But if you choose between videos from Redmi Note 3 on MediaTek and Redmi Note 3 Pro on Snapdragon, then I prefer the video from the Pro model. It has nicer colors and better sound quality.

Performance

The regular Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is based on the MediaTek Helio X10 chipset with 8 Cortex-A53 cores and a PowerVR G6200 graphics accelerator. Model with 2 GB random access memory and 16 GB of permanent memory are lower in frequency than the so-called Prime variant of Note 3 with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of ROM. The heart of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro is a 6-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 chip with Adreno 510 graphics. This smartphone can also be had with 2/16 GB of memory and 3/32 GB of memory. We are testing versions with 3/32 GB of memory.

Redmi Note 3 and Redmi Note 3 Pro

Benchmark indicators are right in front of your eyes. In 3D tests, Redmi Note 3 Pro with Snapdragon 650 scores better, but the superiority in real games over Redmi Note 3 with Helio X10 is not so obvious. Judging by the games we tested, the advantage is 50/50. This, I think, is due to the greater optimization of toys for PowerVR, which is used in the iPhone. Just don’t forget to turn on the performance mode of Redmi Note 3 before playing, otherwise there will be lags with balanced mode (fps is almost 2 times lower). The disadvantage of the productivity mode is the high heat generation; holding the phone with it is extremely uncomfortable. Redmi Note 3 Pro also heats up (Redmi Note 3 heats up about the same in balanced mode), but without any unpleasant sensations.

Regarding the smoothness of the interface, Redmi Note 3 and Redmi Note 3 Pro with different official firmware and different hardware equally regularly lags in the interface and applications, and can crash from the same games. If I can praise Xiaomi Mi5 for optimizing MIUI, then I can’t praise it here.

Autonomy

rank in game (Redmi Note 3 and Redmi Note 3 Pro)

video discharge (Redmi Note 3 and Redmi Note 3 Pro)

The batteries are the same – 4000 mAh. If we consider that the screens are identical (5.5”, Full HD, IPS), then the entire difference in energy consumption can be safely attributed to the processors: MediaTek and Qualcomm. In the test for continuous video playback with maximum screen brightness, the Helio X10 version lasted 7 hours 8 minutes, and the Snapdragon 650 model lasted 9 hours 34 minutes (25% longer). In Asphalt 8, in an hour with the brightness at a comfortable value, both phones dropped by 15% (Redmi Note 3 was in balanced mode). I studied smartphones at the same time, using them in the same tasks, and according to my observations, the MediaTek version always lost charge faster (in balanced mode). However, even its results are quite good for such a battery. That is, it cannot be said that Redmi Note 3 sits down quickly. It lasts for a long time, but Redmi Note 3 Pro lasts longer. When playing games in performance mode, Redmi Note 3 will unpleasantly surprise you with heating and discharge.

conclusions

I don’t understand why Xiaomi releases so many modifications of the Redmi series smartphones, turning production into a natural conveyor belt. On the other hand, the models are frequently updated and receive important improvements. For example, the compact Redmi 3 Pro (as well as Redmi 3S) received a finger scanner, and the Redmi Note 3 Pro phablet was transferred to a more current platform.

If we compare Redmi Note 3 and Redmi Note 3 Pro head-to-head, I can’t think of a single good reason why you should buy the MediaTek version. The Snapdragon version provides a comparable level of performance, but lasts longer, has slightly better video recording and better sound quality in headphones, it is easy to install international firmware with Russian language and Google services, and it also boasts support for memory cards. There is parity with cameras - one takes better pictures, then the other (but both are at an average level). Changing Redmi Note 3 to Redmi Note 3 Pro makes no sense.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro itself is an interesting product, but not an ideal choice. My biggest gripe with this is the camera's instability, but if you're generally happy with the images shown, you won't be disappointed with the purchase. At the current price this is valid a good choice, although it has at least two worthy alternatives - Meizu M3 Note and ZUK Z1.

We would like to express our gratitude to the online store GearBest.com for the devices provided for testing. You can save on purchases through the Letyshops service by returning your money.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro is a continuation of the company's correct and successful tactics. Xiaomi offers its customers fairly high-quality products at a pleasant and affordable price.

Today, the brand ranks fifth among the most purchased phone manufacturers and has gained great popularity among consumers.

Despite the fact that the company's models are not always ideal and have some disadvantages, the company is constantly developing, correcting mistakes and improving.

At the same time, he always sticks to his line and maintains a balance between price and quality.

In this review, we will look at the smartphone in detail, find out its strengths and weaknesses and, quite possibly, help you make right choice in buying a new phone.

Packaging and accessories

The smartphone comes in the familiar white box. The packaging is quite reliable and dense and helps keep the phone intact even during the longest transportation.

The drawing on the box is made in a minimalist style, which is typical for Xiaomi.
Inside the box itself you will find:

  • Instructions and documents included in an envelope;
  • Charger;
  • USB cable in a special package;
  • Actually, the smartphone itself.

Design

The phone is equipped with a solid metal body with plastic inserts. The model came in three colors – silver, gold and gray.

The design is kept in a minimal style and has nothing superfluous.

Those who do not want to stand out through ostentatious luxury and similar visual sophistications will be satisfied with its appearance.

The smartphone is quite convenient and compact for use in one hand. The buttons have a traditional arrangement for such gadgets.

Below the screen there are three illuminated interface keys: multitasking, home and back.

On the right are the standard volume and power buttons.

Equipment

On the left there is a dual SIM card slot. It’s worth dwelling on this in more detail.

The smartphone is equipped with a dual-sim slot, that is, you can use two SIM cards at the same time (1 micro-sim and 1 nano-sim).

The manufacturer also says that you can replenish the original one using micro-SD up to 128 GB in size. Good too.

BUT! The dual SIM card slot is also a “shelter” for additional .

That is, you will not be able to use two SIM cards at the same time and use an additional memory card. Alas, the manufacturer designed the smartphone in such a way that you have to choose.

As for other technical features and design capabilities, here is also a completely standard and, it’s worth noting, high-quality set:

  • micro-usb port
  • 3.5mm headphone jack
  • infrared port
  • solid speaker

Overall, the design of the phone leaves a very pleasant impression.

Emphasized restraint is very successfully combined with practicality, and such qualities will never go out of fashion.

Display

The screen is something that the model can definitely boast of. Let's quickly go through the technical characteristics, and then figure out how they manifest themselves in practice.

Its capabilities, although quite modest, are not so much that it is not possible to show off photos from vacations, holidays, etc. to friends.

Multimedia

Having tested the smartphone, we were convinced that the phone quite successfully reproduces most of the most popular formats.

The firmware that is already present in the model has everything required applications for playing various contents - voice recorder, gallery, video and audio player, FM radio.

Perhaps the strength of this smartphone model is video playback.

The quality of the screen allows you to feel what FULL HD really is, and the excellent speaker and excellent headphone jack complement the excellent picture with high-quality sound.

You get genuine pleasure from watching videos on this phone.

There is also such a nice bonus as a special application for controlling the TV as a remote control.

Regarding sound, the smartphone has one main speaker with clear playback.

There is a good volume reserve, but in too loud mode the quality deteriorates slightly and the purity of playback is lost.

In respect of telephone conversations– good speech transmission. Extraneous sounds At the same time, they do not distort your speech, and the interlocutor hears you perfectly.

The sound in the headphones is decent, and you can customize it yourself using special tools in your phone.

Software

The system in it is made quite neatly and conveniently, there is no overload unnecessary applications. But there is no application menu itself.

There is a rich functionality of settings; you can literally rearrange many items to suit you and your comfort.

The firmware itself does not cause any particular complaints. There are no slowdowns, bugs or lags.

The system in the smartphone works quite reliably and tolerably, although there is still one significant drawback - the large space it takes up, almost a whole gigabyte.

You can also make the working area of the screen smaller, which makes using the phone with one hand as convenient as possible.

The standard firmware does not contain a familiar and popular application; you must install it yourself.

Performance

Games on Xiaomi

Appearance and ergonomics

There are also no differences in terms of design and materials used. The entire front surface is covered with protective glass. Support frame and back cover Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro is made of aluminum alloy, two plugs are made of plastic at the top and bottom. In the previous model, the plugs were not glued in very carefully; in the current modification, at least in my copy, this has been corrected. The smartphone looks great and feels like a significantly more expensive device.

Connectors, buttons and other elements are located almost perfectly, with the exception of the 3.5 mm jack, which should have been moved to the bottom edge. In both modifications you can find a fingerprint scanner. It is located at the back under the main camera and this location cannot be called successful; a smartphone lying on the table cannot be unlocked. The scanner works perfectly, there are no complaints about the speed or accuracy of operation.

Screen

The screen in the new product is exactly the same - it is a 5.5-inch matrix with a resolution of 1920*1080 pixels. There are no questions about the image quality; the screen has maximum viewing angles and a large brightness margin; under direct sunlight, the image remains readable and almost does not fade. Automatic adjustment The backlight works adequately.

The touch screen can detect up to 10 touches simultaneously; it does not respond to gloved hands.

Hardware platform and performance

The main difference between the Pro version and the simple Redmi Note 3 is the updated hardware platform. The smartphone is equipped with an extremely interesting Qualcomm Snapdragon 650, which, although it belongs to the average price segment, has decent performance even by today's standards, while at the same time it has moderate heat generation and power consumption. The system-on-chip includes two “strong” Cortex-A72 cores, four “weak” Cortex-A53 cores and an Adreno 510 video core. In terms of memory capacity, there are two modifications: the lower one has 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of permanent memory; in the older one – 3 GB and 32 GB, respectively. The slot for microSD memory cards has been returned to the device.

Judging by the benchmarks, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro received a one and a half times increase in performance compared to regular version, in AnTuTu v6 the smartphone scores 73874 points. But what’s even more interesting is that in the Geekbench 3 singlecore test, the device scored 1517 points, which is more than the Snapdragon 810 and Exynos 7420. This means that with most daily tasks Redmi Note 3 Pro will perform faster than any last year's flagship. Practical performance subjectively remained at the same level, it is enough to solve any problems and run the most demanding games. With prolonged heavy load, the smartphone becomes warm evenly over the entire back surface.

Cellular communications and interfaces

Just like its predecessor, the smartphone supports work in LTE networks, the set of frequencies includes bands B3, B7 and B38. This means that in Russian cellular networks, Redmi Note 3 Pro will be able to connect to most LTE towers. The device has two SIM slots and one radio module. The first slot supports micro cards, the nanoSIM slot is combined with a slot for memory cards.

The standard set of wireless interfaces, including Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth 4.1, is complemented by an IR port. At the same time, the smartphone does not have NFC; the USB type-C connector was not delivered this time either. OTG technology is supported.

Battery and autonomy

The battery capacity remained at 4050 mAh. The smartphone comes with a 5V/2A power adapter and charges the battery from 0% to 100% in 3 hours and 5 minutes (from 0% to 75 in 1 hour and 55 minutes).

Compared to the simple Redmi Note 3, the operating time in typical operating modes has increased. In mixed operating mode, the smartphone will last until late at night with 4-4.5 hours of screen activity.

Note. Testing is carried out in the appropriate modes according to the following method: – listening to music on headphones at maximum volume with the screen turned off; – viewing 1080p video from the device memory at 50% backlight brightness and maximum sound volume in headphones; – active browsing (constantly opening new tabs, actively scrolling pages, etc.) via Wi-Fi at 50% backlight brightness; – 3D games (Real Racing 3) at 50% backlight brightness.

Cameras, photo and video quality

The second most important difference between Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro is the main camera module. It is a 16-megapixel sensor with hybrid autofocus, which is covered by a five-element lens with an F2.0 aperture and an equivalent focal length of approximately 27 mm. The system camera has a simplified manual mode that allows you to adjust white balance and ISO.

Camera performance in conditions of sufficient natural light remained at the same level, but due to the increased resolution, detail increased. The camera takes photos with good color reproduction and sharpness and a fairly average dynamic range. The only thing I didn’t like was the digital noise, which is clearly visible even in photographs taken during the day in clear weather. CLICKABLE! On the left are pictures of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, on the right -:

Increases in HDR mode dynamic range, at the same time there is a slight oversaturation of colors. True, tones are compressed only in the middle of the spectrum, causing shadows to fall into black and highlights into white. CLICKABLE! On the left are HDR shots from Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, on the right - HDR from Apple iPhone 6s Plus:

The Redmi Note 3 Pro camera copes well with low and/or artificial lighting. The white balance is accurate, most details are preserved, some of the detail is eaten up by noise reduction. CLICKABLE! On the left are pictures of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, on the right - Apple iPhone 6s Plus:

There was no panoramic shooting mode. The shooting process is relatively simple and the panorama is stitched together well, but the image has a resolution of 1.8 megapixels and is stored for a long time. CLICKABLE! Top panorama of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, bottom - Apple iPhone 6s Plus:

The 5-megapixel front camera is covered by a non-autofocus lens with an F2.0 aperture and an equivalent focal length of 30 mm, and can shoot video in FullHD resolution. Photos taken with the front camera are soapy, no improvement is visible. CLICKABLE!

The smartphone records video in a maximum resolution of 1920*1080 pixels at 30 fps with stereo sound, the footage comes out relatively good. There is a timelapse shooting mode in FullHD resolution at 30 fps and a quadruple slow motion shooting mode in HD resolution at 30 fps; in both cases, sound is not recorded.

Sound quality

The only ringing speaker in Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro is located on the bottom rear surface. He plays mediocrely, but loudly and without wheezing. If you place the device on a table with the screen facing up, the sound ringing signal is muted by a third.

In terms of sound quality in headphones and volume reserve, Redmi Note 3 Pro is practically not inferior to flagship products of other brands. There is an FM radio, it can work without a connected headset, the signal of some stations is reproduced without interference.

Operating system features

The smartphone out of the box runs on the MIUI 7.1 operating system, which is based on . At the time of writing this review, only the Chinese version of the firmware is officially presented; it lacks Google services and does not support the Russian language. After the model is released in India, an official international version of the firmware should appear. On our resource you can find shells with many screenshots.

It's amazing how the Chinese manage to surprise time after time. The already very successful Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has become even better and faster. Two objective shortcomings of the original model: the lack of a memory card slot and international firmware have been corrected in Redmi Note 3 Pro. Now the only thing I can find fault with is the soapy front camera with a relatively narrow viewing angle. Of the minuses not directly related to the device, it should be noted that in Russia on this moment Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro is almost impossible to get at an adequate price.

Hello everyone my dear friends. Today we are reviewing a fairly well-known and at the same time interesting Chinese gadget from Xiaomi company- A 5.5-inch phablet that strives to win the name of “people's smartphone of 2016.” So, dear friends, let’s once again get acquainted with our hero from the Middle Kingdom, try to find out about all his shortcomings and compare him with a “bunch” of other smartphones from different price categories that I managed to get into my hands. So, my dears, I invite everyone to the cat in order to get to know Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro better

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 smartphone, which appeared at the beginning of the year, turned out to be a very successful model, thereby the company took a noticeable step forward when compared with the second “laptop”. However, Xiaomi decided not to stop there and released an improved version of it, giving the gadget the Pro prefix in the name. The subject is noticeably more expensive than the basic version on the MTK platform, but you can determine which smartphone you have in front of you only after removing the SIM card slot. IN Note versions 3 Pro, the second seat is made combined - you can install a Nano-SIM (Micro-SIM in the case of the regular Note 3) or a microSD card. This is the next difference between the versions after the processor - the presence of support for memory cards in Redmi Note 3 Pro, which is not present in Redmi Note 3. By the way, the processor in the updated version is installed by Qualcomm. Even the boxes are absolutely identical. And nowhere is it even stated what it is Pro version. Only on the back of the package is there a label, where among the hieroglyphs you can see the numbers “650” (indicates the version Qualcomm processor Snapdragon), “6” (cores) and operating frequency “1.8GHz”. The smartphone is available in two versions: 2/16 and 3/32 (RAM/ROM). In my case - the older version

Having looked a little at the main differences between the “relatives” from the Note 3 line, let's get down to business. But first, a few words about delivery. Since the purchase is not very cheap, when choosing a delivery method, the option of courier delivery was offered, where “ridiculous” terms were indicated. Of course, I agreed to delivery by this service, in the hope that the smartphone would arrive in just a few days. Oh, how wrong I was... The parcel was sent by SDEK. And this is the first time in my practice when the service did this with its brains. I will not go into details of delivery, I will only say one thing: the order was placed on August 31, and the parcel reached Nizhny Novgorod in 20 days, and for another three days I could not receive my parcel due to the fault of the delivery service.

For lovers of tracking numbers

XIAOMI Redmi Note 3 Pro

Well, now let's move on to our gadget. If the delivery service left me with an unpleasant aftertaste, I can’t blame the store for its quality work. In this case, we are talking about the packaging of the device. The smartphone was packed in an “air mattress”, and the outside of the parcel was wrapped in several layers of material resembling a laminate backing. Thanks to this packaging, our gadget was not damaged.

Our gadget is delivered in a bright retail box typical of Xiaomi. The front side shows the colors of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro smartphone. I think you already know that the smartphone is available in three colors: gold, silver and black. Since my wife was present during the selection, it was decided to take the golden color

On the end of the packaging, the manufacturer has highlighted the languages that he “speaks” this smartphone. The fact that he singled out everyone present is not surprising. The smartphone had non-Chinese firmware installed, with clumsy Russian language (but more on that as the review progresses)

On the reverse side there is standard information for any smartphone - basic specifications and IMEI numbers. As you may have noticed, there is only one IMEI number, although there are two SIM cards. This problem, if you can call it that for everyone. And most importantly, SIM cards work perfectly in Russian networks

Before shipping, the smartphone was tested, as evidenced by stickers around the perimeter of the box. Probably the kind Chinese installed the firmware before sending it

Inside the box is our golden-colored review hero. As for the device's equipment, it is standard. A booklet with instructions was neatly inserted under the gadget, among which was lost a needle for opening the SIM card tray, a charger, a 1.5-meter long cable and an adapter, which the store employees took care of initially and put in the “air mattress”

As a rule, tests are placed at the end of the review. But since we are already talking about the power supply, I suggest checking it under load. The manufacturer states that the transformer is ready to output 5 volts and 2 amps. Input current consumption - 0.35A

Let's preload the charger and find out at what maximum current the protection is triggered

Additional Information

With a maximum load of 2.2A, the current consumption was only 0.112A

As for the smartphone battery, the standard charger I was able to fill it with 3759mAh. This is despite what the manufacturer claims battery capacity 4050 Ah. The battery charges from 0% to 100% battery in 3 hours and 5 minutes (from 0% to 75 in 1 hour and 55 minutes).

Well, now the most important thing - let's move on to the appearance of the Xiaomi smartphone. Externally - an exact copy of Xiaomi Redmi 3s. The main difference is the screen size of 5.5 inches.

The smartphone sits simply beautifully in your hands. Before this, my wife and I had the main smartphones Asus ZenFone 2 Laser ZE500KL. Asus's screen is 5 inches. At the same time, the subject has 5.5 inches. And before purchasing the device under review, I had doubts about ease of use. Well, as it turned out, all the worries were in vain. The model from Xiaomi has identical dimensions and, thanks to the absence of frames that are found in the Asus model, sits in the hands like a native one.

On the front side at the top of the gadget are located from left to right: a speaker, a light sensor and a front camera. The front camera, as stated by the manufacturer, is 5 megapixels. Covered with a non-autofocus lens with an f/2.0 aperture and an equivalent focal length of 30 mm, it can shoot video in FullHD resolution

At the bottom of the front side there are three touch buttons, painfully familiar to every owner of an Android. It is worth noting that the buttons are backlit, which is rare among new products.

On the back side, in addition to the main camera, there is a fingerprint sensor. This arrangement cannot be called successful; a smartphone lying on the table cannot be unlocked. But as for the quality of the scanner’s work, there simply cannot be any complaints about the speed or accuracy of operation. Everything works just perfect. The number of false positives tends to zero.

One of the differences between Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro compared to its predecessor is the main camera module. It is a 16-megapixel sensor with hybrid autofocus, which is covered by a five-element lens with an f/2.0 aperture and an equivalent focal length of approximately 27 mm. It is also worth noting the presence of a two-tone flash, and the system camera has a simplified version of the manual mode, in which you can adjust the white balance and ISO.

At the bottom of the case there is a speaker, which is almost one of the advantages of this smartphone model

At the top end there is a headphone jack, an infrared port and a noise-cancelling speaker.

on the opposite side, that is, on the bottom side, there is a micro-usb connector and a microphone

The volume rocker and the power/switch button of the smartphone took their place on the right side of the gadget. On the opposite side there is a slot for memory cards and SIM cards

This model has a hybrid slot compared to its predecessor. The SIM card slot consists of two sections: a section for nanoSim/microSD and another section for microSim. This means only one thing: you won’t be able to use a memory card and two SIM cards together without a collective farm. You will have to choose one thing: either two SIM cards or memory and one SIM card.

Everything would be fine, but the back cover of the smartphone is made of plastic. The rest of the body is aluminum, except for the top and bottom inserts: they are plastic. The aluminum solution is a clear advantage over plastic cases, On the other hand, on the aluminum end all flaws from falls and abrasions from contact with any surface will be visible, and on the other hand, the metal case plays an excellent role as a heat sink and reception signal amplifier

For comparison, two models from the same manufacturer: 5-inch 3S and 5.5-inch Note 3 Pro

Well, since we are talking about dimensions, I propose to find out the weight and dimensions of the device under review

Weight and dimensions

The weight of the smartphone is 173 grams. The weight is average, but if you consider that we have a 4000 mAh battery on board, the weight no longer seems large

Smartphone height 148mm

Width - 74mm

Thickness - 7mm

SMARTPHONE FIRMWARE

Having talked about the appearance, it’s worth moving on to the “inner world” of the gadget. And we will continue our conversation about firmware. Initially, there were no signs of trouble. I received the smartphone and launched it. Everything is as it should be. But I was confused by the “clumsy” translation. In almost every application, half of the text was not translated into Russian. Going to “System Information” everything fell into place. In front of me is a Chinese under-flashing, which the Chinese are installing left and right for everyone

It was decided to put global firmware. A detailed article about the firmware of this gadget was found on the 4pda website; the software file was downloaded from the official Xiaomi website. It was decided to sew via MiFlash. There were no problems, everything was installed the first time. Having upgraded to global, stable firmware, we received OTA updates and an excellent official translation into Russian. The number of bugs and glitches has also decreased significantly. On the one hand, there were no problems installing the firmware. But on the other hand, the average user wants to get a fully working smartphone out of the box, which already has up-to-date, and, first of all, updated software. Here, unfortunately, we don’t get that.
After all the manipulations, we received a stable version 8.0.2.0, and just yesterday an updated version of firmware 8.0.5.0 arrived by air, which was also installed without any problems

Initially, the MIUI 7 shell came out of the box. But without hesitation, I decided to download the firmware with a newer shell - MIUI 8. For owners of Xiaomi smartphones, these shells are already familiar. For users who have picked up a smart phone for the first time, there is nothing difficult to learn

VIEWING ANGLES AND SCREEN BRIGHTNESS

As for viewing angles, they are simply gorgeous. The IPS display matrix allows you to view images without color distortion at almost 170 degrees. Unfortunately, it is not possible to transmit an image from the screen through a camera.

The screen brightness criterion has recently played an important role when choosing a smartphone. The bright screen allows the smartphone to always remain readable in sunny weather, and the minimum brightness allows you not to strain your eyes at night. Therefore, the greater the difference between the minimum and maximum illumination, the more advantages this device has.

So, dear friends, let's take a look and compare the brightness of the smartphones that were in my hands

In fact, the gadget has not only the brightest screen, but also the most readable. FHD resolution is capable of delivering bright and clear images even in direct sunlight. And the minimum illumination tends to zero. In complete darkness, your eyes never get tired of the smartphone screen. If you look visually at the screen, there are no obvious differences from its brother from the Redmi line. In the maximum indicators, the gadget lost a little, but in the minimum indicators it confidently took the first line of our hit parade. It is clear that there will be no problems with it both in sunny weather and when watching movies under the covers.

A detailed updated table with technical illuminance data is available here

SOUND AND SPEAKER

The only speaker in Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro is located on the rear surface in its lower part. He plays simply gorgeous: loud, clear and without wheezing. If you place the device on a table with the screen facing up, the signal volume is muted by a third.

In terms of sound quality in headphones and volume reserve, Redmi Note 3 Pro is practically not inferior to flagship products from other famous manufacturers. There is an FM radio on board, it can work without a connected headset, but the reception signal leaves much to be desired

It was not for nothing that I moved the topic of sound into a separate section. Recently, more and more users have become interested not only in the camera, but also in the volume of the audio speaker and its sound quality. And I decided to do some kind of test on the volume of melody playback. This selection includes only those smartphones that I personally was “familiar” with. The main goal of the task is not only to find out and measure the sound volume, but also to try to convey to you the purity and quality of sound in each of the devices. The conditions for all gadgets are the same - the sound is measured on one test device, while one melody is played. The composition is the well-known “strong” song by Polina Gagarina “Cuckoo”, the flow rate is 320 kbit/sec.

As experience has shown, of all the gadgets I reviewed earlier, the loudest and clearest speaker turned out to be the sub speaker. I invite you to familiarize yourself with the table of tests performed.

BUNS Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro

If we talk about the fingerprint sensor, or rather about its use in modern smartphones, I knew firsthand, but the presence of an infrared port in the device was a surprise for me. To begin with, you might think that we have traveled back to the early 2000s. No, friends, we are in the real 21st century and the IR port will control our gadgets. So, let's start getting acquainted with him...

IR port
The smartphone has a program for controlling various equipment - Mi Remote. In Russian, this is a remote control for all kinds of equipment. It’s very easy to set up, go into the program, turn on the device that will be controlled, and then follow the prompts to customize the device for yourself. So, let's go...

This program contains a huge number of all kinds of equipment and manufacturers. It’s unlikely that any owner will be left without this bonus. I was able to set up two TVs and air conditioning. Without any problems...

First, choose the type of equipment

Chose. We are looking in the manufacturer's lists. Is he not there? This can’t be... The Chinese make all the equipment, they don’t know what equipment is in our homes. Personally, I was able to connect samsung tv 2001 release

Then we follow the device prompts and fulfill its requirements (example questions)

After everything is ready, we get a functional TV remote control

Fingerprint scanner
The fingerprint sensor serves as a means of unlocking the device. Having studied the smartphone inside and out over these few days, I got so used to this sensor that on my ASUS I automatically try to find it to unlock it. I will not describe the entire process of installing fingers, I can only say one thing. For clearer operation of the finger, it is advisable to apply each finger twice. Then reading errors will be reduced to almost zero.

PERFORMANCE AND HEATING

The smartphone is equipped with a very powerful price category"iron". Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 platform with a six-core processor: four cores at 1.2 GHz (Cortex-A53) and two cores at 1.8 GHz (Cortex-A72). Graphics system– Adreno 510. I ran several performance tests and was pleased with the results. Even such a productive 3D game as Asphalt 8 “worked” for the test without a single brake

As for heating, no matter how hard I tried to heat the gadget to the maximum, I was unable to do so. The temperature could only rise by 8.2 degrees

Tests before and after heating the device under load also failed to detect throttling. The error was about 2% of the original measurements

Smartphone camera

As for the camera on a smartphone, I can say with confidence that the camera could not justify all the hopes placed on it. According to the manufacturer, the device uses a 16-megapixel sensor with hybrid autofocus, which is covered by a five-element lens with an f/2.0 aperture. The camera's functionality is small, although the basic functions for improving photos are present. There is also the possibility of panoramic shooting.

PHOTO
The theory is of course good, but let’s move on to practice and look at examples of photographs

Xiaomi very quickly released its new model after the previous one, which should not be confused with Xiaomi Redmi 3 - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. This, on the one hand, is logical, because the company needs to expand the lineup phones, but, on the other hand, this step seems forced. Why? Because the Chinese market is simply bursting with the number of competitors among smartphones, and if Xiaomi wants to maintain its leadership position, then they simply have to release the most interesting gadgets at the lowest price.

Equipment

Xiaomi packed this model in a new box, which differs from the previous model. Now it’s not a dirty brown, but a neat white box with logos and bright pictures. Also, the packaging has become significantly smaller compared to previous ones. The delivery set remained standard: smartphone, SIM card tray clip, documentation, charging block and microUSB cable.

Design and body

Before the release of the third Redmi Note, the entire line of budget smartphones was made of plastic, so the transition to an aluminum body is a very important introduction. The appearance of Redmi Note 3 is practically no different from previous Xiaomi models, and the device looks quite simple, but expensive.

The smartphone is available in three colors: Gold, White and Black. In Black back panel dark gray and the front is black, in White the back panel is silver and the front is white, in Gold both panels are golden.

The front panel of the phone is covered with protective glass with an oleophobic coating, rear end aluminum, and there are plastic inserts on the top and bottom so that the antennas work adequately. We recommend that you immediately buy a case for the device, since it is likely that the back of the case will be subject to minor scratches and damage due to the dimensions and smooth aluminum coating.

In general, with regard to the design of the case and the materials from which it is assembled, the review showed that in this smartphone the company has stepped far forward, because the gadget looks much more expensive than previous models due to changes in the material and rounding of the shape of the case. The phone fits comfortably in the hand even though the screen size is Redmi Note 3 is quite large - with a screen resolution of 5.5”, few smart phones can boast of convenience. There are no complaints about the build quality either - the case does not creak or bend, the buttons do not wobble and are securely located in their places according to the rules.

Buttons and controls

Just like everyone else Xiaomi phones, this model also has three touch keys under the screen: back, home and application manager. The review showed that in the device parameters you can set various options for holding the buttons for a long time, turn the white backlight off and on, and even set its duration.

As usual, the power and volume buttons are located on the right side of the smartphone. You can activate the phone unlock by pressing the volume key. At the bottom there is a microUSB connector and a microphone, at the top there is a 3.5 mm audio output, an infrared port and an additional microphone. On the left side there is a tray for SIM cards, in front above the display there are proximity and light sensors, a speaker for conversation and a front camera.

Separately, it is worth noting the fingerprint scanner located on the back of the case under the camera and flash. In general, its response speed is quite high. You can save up to 5 different fingerprints in your smartphone’s memory, and the phone won’t complain about you repeatedly scanning the same areas of one finger - therefore, you can save different areas of one finger and thereby increase the percentage of detections up to up to 100%. Convenient, isn't it?

Of the minuses, we immediately note that the vibration when touching the keys is very strong, and its strength cannot be adjusted - only turned off.

Display

The screen of the device has a diagonal of 5.5 inches, a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels (403 ppi) and is based on an IPS matrix. good quality oleophobic layer. The extremely wide view and screen resolution are good news - the image is practically not distorted, the brightness and clarity are also in good supply. The richness of the image could have been added, but this is not critical - the display and its dimensions are simply remarkable for smartphones in this price segment.

In the device parameters, you can set the screen color, stretching the colors to warmer or cooler tones, and a “reading” mode is also available. At the same time, the colors on the display turn green, and it is not entirely clear what the comfort of reading with such color consists of. You can also enable the one-handed control function, because the size of the phone is difficult to get used to.

Camera

The smartphone is equipped with a 13-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture, phase focusing and 5 lenses. There is also an LED flash. The front camera is traditionally weaker - 5 megapixels and f/2.0 aperture.

The interface of the camera application itself is quite clear and simple, similar to the interface IPhone cameras. You can take pictures with different effects and choose different scenes. There is no full manual shooting mode here - you can only adjust ISO and white balance. Shutter speed, manual focusing - the developers decided not to add all this to the phone. In this regard, Meizu and other Xiaomi competitors have some advantage - they have a full manual mode setting.

Now let's move on to photo quality. We believe that for a budget employee, the photo quality of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is very good. In good daylight conditions, photos are moderately sharp, colors are reproduced correctly, and there is even an adequate HDR mode. As usual, at dusk, the smartphone begins to shoot worse: noise appears, gaps in sharpness appear, focusing is slow and colors are slightly distorted. But in general, the smartphone is very good in terms of camera. The front camera is also not bad - with this camera you will get normal selfies.

Video recording on the phone is possible in Full HD format with the ability to zoom the image and tracking autofocus.

Autonomy

The battery in this model, like in all other Xiaomi, is non-removable and quite powerful - 4000 mAh. We believe that the tendency to place budget smartphones powerful batteries- a good trend, because, whatever one may say, any user will ultimately choose the device that will last him longer without charging. With active use of a smartphone (1-1.5 hours of phone calls, 15-20 SMS, Email, 3-4 hours of music, about 1.5-2 hours of surfing the Internet, 40-50 photos) it is discharged in approximately 20 hours, which is a very good result, because many flagships of the smartphone world reach 0% charge in 14 hours active use. However, we would like to note that the operating time of the smartphone will still depend on the display brightness settings, music volume and the quality of network coverage. In general, many of these little things can dramatically change the battery life, so be careful.

Memory and performance

The smartphone is equipped with an 8-core processor with a frequency of 2 GHz from MediaTek, as well as a PowerVR G6200 graphics processor. The phone has a choice of 2 or 3 GB of RAM, as well as 16 GB or 32 GB. The model, which has 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of flash memory, is labeled “Prime” not only for these indicators, but also because here the graphics frequencies are increased, which together gives more possibilities.

The company, from our point of view, very successfully chose the platform from MediaTek - the smartphone practically does not heat up, while the processor itself is very inexpensive and fast, and this allows you to create budget gadgets with its help.

There is no need to complain about the speed of the phone - the combination of the processor and graphics accelerator is quite enough to implement almost any complexity of tasks - from watching videos in Full HD to heavy games at maximum graphics settings.

Sound

Redmi Note 3 is equipped with a MediaTek Helio X10 chipset, which means that there are no dedicated audio amplifiers and sounds are processed by built-in codecs. The sound on this smartphone is not particularly loud, but it is very easy to increase the volume by going to the engineering menu of the smartphone - dial *#*#3646633#*#* and select Hardware Testing Audio Headset Mode. Regarding the sound quality in headphones, the situation here is better. The sound is clearer and louder, but there are still problems with the lower frequencies, so we cannot recommend this smartphone to lovers of ideal sound.

Interfaces, navigation and networks

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 works in the GSM network, LTE and even HSDPA. As for the USB 2.0 interface, in order to synchronize data with a PC, you will need the microUSB cord that comes with the phone. The device also supports standards such as USB-Host and USB-OTG, which means that you can connect flash drives, cameras and much more to it using adapters.

Smartphone supports Bluetooth modules v 4.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11, which is dual-band and works just perfectly. Same as other phones Android based, Xiaomi Redmi 3 Note supports the hotspot function via mobile Internet and Wi-Fi.

The gadget is equipped with one radio module, as well as two slots for microSIM. In the settings, you can set a separate default SIM card for calls, and a separate one for mobile internet, and also give a name to each of them. Before sending an SMS or calling, you can choose which card will carry out the selected action. The interface for working with SIM cards is very simple and clear, and will not raise any questions.

The gadget takes a minimum of time to search for satellites; support for Glonass, GPS or A-GPS and Beidou networks is very well implemented.

Software

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 model is based on the operating Android system 5.1 with the already familiar MIUI 7. The system itself and its interface are very reminiscent of iOS - there is no application menu here, and each new program installed on your smartphone is displayed on the desktop as a new icon. The phone also has many different small settings, even such as changing the color of the LED indicator - this is why users love MIUI.

The smartphone initially comes with several basic applications installed - a browser, a calendar, a calculator, file manager and many others. You can also choose any one you like from several hundred design themes, and also nice feature The device interface is to display the caller's installed photo on the full screen.

You must remember that in the new Xiaomi you will not see Google services and Russian menu language - to install the language you will need to flash it. It’s easier with services from Google - just type in App Store titles necessary programs and install them.

Many of the stores offer customers phones with custom firmware already installed, but it’s difficult to recommend anything specific here. We would take a smartphone with Chinese firmware and simply installed the necessary services from Google, because their firmware is still more stable. But this, again, is at the personal discretion of everyone.

Review: results

As for the quality of network reception, over several weeks of test use of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 gadget, we did not have any questions or complaints. Phone vibration when incoming call quite strong and can be felt well even when walking and in a clothing pocket.

The price of this device in China is 900 yuan for a model with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, and for the Prime model with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory they are asking 1,100 yuan. You can purchase the phone on the official Xiaomi website or in authorized stores - fortunately, there are already many of them open in Russia at the moment.

For such a price, the Redmi Note 3 smartphone is simply a great smartphone, and there is no point in dwelling on its shortcomings, because any model has them, and the only important thing is how much you end up paying for them. And if you have the opportunity to buy this model in China - you are incredibly lucky, because there it costs 3, or even 4 thousand rubles cheaper. At the time of release of this model Xiaomi smartphones were not yet officially presented in Russia, so it was considered a great success to buy it even then in the Middle Kingdom. And even if you buy this device via the Internet from China, taking into account possible further returns via the Internet and so on, you will still remain in the black, since the gadget remains one of the most interesting models of the year. The Xiaomi company has once again created a very high-quality Redmi 3 Note gadget with a fairly low price. The disadvantages should also be noted in the review - the need to install custom firmware with Russian localization and the lack of a slot for a microSD memory card. And if this point is important to you, then pay attention to the Redmi Note 3 Prime model, which has three gigabytes of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory.

If you compare the phone with its direct competitors, such as Meizu M1 Metal or Huawei Honor 5X, then Xiaomi still wins due to greater performance and a number of other small advantages, which together add up to one big plus.
