Long time to mobile phone Only a wired headset was connected. But in the mid-2000s, Bluetooth technology received great development. Mobile phones with its support have learned to transmit sound through the air. Headset manufacturers could not help but take advantage of this. The first models were inserted into one ear, and their main task freed up my hands while driving. Nose further development technologies Bluetooth wireless The headset now has a second ear and stereo effect support. Of course, mono headsets still exist, as you will see after reading today’s material.

Selecting a headset

On store shelves you can find a huge number of headphones designed for mobile phones. Some of them received a microphone and the ability to connect wirelessly. This makes them a full-fledged Bluetooth headset.

When choosing a specific model, you should focus on its purpose. If you want to free your hands in the car, then you will be quite happy with the “one-eared” model. Its main advantage is longer battery life. Well, those who like to listen to music should pay attention to stereo headsets, of which a lot have been released recently. All that remains is to decide on the form factor, because there are large overhead and miniature plug-in devices.

You can read more about how to choose a wireless headset in our separate material. After this, you definitely won’t have any questions left.

Hello GT! How often do you encounter good idea and an interesting product is ruined by marketers who are trying to impose on people the opinion of what they need?.. Fortunately for us, there are still companies on the market for which it is important to create a product that users will like, and to instill love for what happened , and by any means necessary.

Today I want to tell you about the HyperX Cloud Revolver gaming headset, the flagship product of Kingston's gaming division, one of the few headsets that is made for people, not annual financial reports.

But when creating many, many products (any kind at all), designers constantly have to deal with the fact that the product needs to be given properties that at the same time negatively affect each other. And okay, if we are talking about some kind of “strength” vs “lightness”. In products aimed at professional or extreme use, such contradictions are much more complicated. In computer technology, “make it faster” competes with “reduce heat from the load, which reduces performance.” IN gaming peripherals There are also enough problems.

Gaming headset requirements

So, gamers need a comfortable headset. You can do it like Apple, first come up with some bullshit, and then sell it. Or you can ask the players what they would like to get from the headset. Actually, I collected their wish lists from gamers I knew, added my thoughts on this matter, and this is what happened. If we leave behind the scenes any show-off like surround sound and 100,500 speakers, the requirements for sound reproduction will be as follows:
  • Pleasant sound - special sound effects should sound natural, after all, we want to enjoy the immersion in the gameplay;
  • Clarity of sound positioning - in online battles, the enemy heard behind you in time or the sound of a shot from a grenade launcher can decide the outcome of the match;
  • Normal sound insulation - you shouldn’t disturb others with your sounds, and you wouldn’t want to hear the sounds around you;
  • Excellent audibility of your interlocutors - communication during multiplayer can save one of your party members and turn the tide of the battle.
With sound everything is more or less clear. In addition to this, users have wishes regarding the headset itself:
  • Lightweight and comfortable - a gaming session can last a long time, sweaty ears or a neck tired from the weight of the headset is not comme il faut;
  • Durable - a trip in a subway backpack, a fall from a table, or someone’s playful hands should not turn the headset into high-tech garbage, Google “Logitech G35” in pictures;
  • Universal - it’s good when you have separate money for headphones for music, for the subway, for games, for movies... but still, let’s be realistic. When buying a headset for several thousand rubles, I would like to be able to connect it not only to a computer and use it not only for counter or dota.
Well, on the microphone:
  • Removable or telescopic design - a microphone is not always needed, but a detachable one, in which case it can be repaired/replaced, anything can happen;
  • The presence of a noise reduction function - no comment here;
  • Normal frequency response and voice transmission are similar.

That is, here are the typical general “to be strong and easy” together with specific typeface contradictions - to have a “beautiful” sound along with “to hear the interlocutor well.” We can assume that I have come up with some kind of collective image of an ideal headset: light, durable, comfortable with good sound. Is it simple in words? Let's see what of this is implemented in HyperX Cloud Revolver and how well it is.

Equipment

The headset comes in a large and beautiful box. Inside there is another box, and the headphones themselves are already hidden in it, reliably protected by a large amount of polyethylene foam. To crush such packaging so much as to damage the contents in it, you have to try.

In addition to the headset, the box contains a detachable microphone, a two-meter fabric-braided extension cable, which turns into a universal 4-pin mini-jack (which is suitable for connecting to mobile devices, laptops and PS4 gamepads) into two regular ones - for connecting to a PC sound card. The extension cable has a volume control and microphone mute control with a clip. The volume control wheel is “analog” and has final positions: perhaps the solution is not as reliable as an optical encoder, but within the service life of the headset you are unlikely to encounter the problem of contact bounce. But volume control is more accurate and instantaneous, rather than stepwise and after the controller figures out which way the wheel is being turned.

There are no “bonuses” in the form of replaceable ear pads, colored pads or bags made of peeling pseudo-suede for carrying and storing the headset - it is understood that the headset is “combat” and will be used every day for its intended purpose: either for games or for music on the road.

Construction and materials

The overall concept of a gaming headset has been brought to near perfection here. At the heart of everything is an ultra-light steel frame, which is also a spring that presses the speaker cups to the head. The shape and thickness are chosen perfectly: the headphones fit well even on a small head, do not put pressure on a large skull, bend easily and fit perfectly. the initial state. Just for fun, I left the headphones in this form for a day, tying them with thread for reliability:

After 24 hours - like new, not the slightest distortion of the structure. A self-adjusting headband (soft tape with stretchable elements) is attached to the frame: fewer “sliding” structures - higher overall strength of the model. The speaker cups are mounted on hinges with two degrees of freedom (they are attached to a steel frame) and are made of impact-resistant plastic. A removable microphone and an integral (short) part of the wire are attached to the left.

The ear pads and the moving part of the headband are made of a special material that is as close in characteristics as possible to genuine leather. The maximum trouble that can happen to this coating is that it will crack over time. But it won’t peel off or fall off like leatherette on a cheap textile base. (note: By the way, in previous models HyperX Cloud, Cloud II and Cloud Core, a similar leatherette material was used as a material, but of a simpler class. Proper selection of the thickness of the base, binder layer and high-quality stitching with allowances for deformation effectively solved the problem of wear on the working surface).

Inside the Revolver ear pads there is a special material with a memory effect: it remembers everything you said or heard, takes the shape of your head and retains it under the influence of heat and load. After you remove the headset and it “cools down”, the cells are open the structure will be filled with air again and restore its original shape. With such material, the headset fits perfectly on your head, does not load it with excessive pressure and does not “remember” the only correct position on you forever, ensuring a comfortable fit and tight contact every time you put on the headphones.

And finally, the most interesting thing is the sound emitters. Previous HyeprX Clouds were quite good in all respects, but some users complained about the unbalanced sound panorama. New 50mm drivers with optimized frequency response and a new resonator sound better and much more neutral.

A nice bonus: the headset is completely devoid of all kinds of LEDs, meaningless decorations, built-in sound cards with surround sound emulation and controllable backlights. That is, you only pay for a reliable design and high quality sound. By the way, about the sound...

Playing audio

So, the most important thing. On past HyperX Cloud some reviewers and users complained about the bass: they say that there is too much of it and it is “boomy”, it clogs the entire stage and frankly interferes everywhere except in films. In HyperX Cloud Revolver, engineers took this feature into account and completely redesigned the design of the sound emitters. Firstly, the speakers themselves have changed: the resistance from 60 Ohms was reduced to 30 - now laptop audio cards, a PS4 gamepad or a regular smartphone can handle them without any problems (you can read from the guys from soundpal on their blog). Yes, purely theoretically, the “purity” of the sound may decrease somewhat, but this is a question of the target audience and usage scenarios. In this case, we are studying non-studio headphones for several tens (or even hundreds) of thousands of rubles for connoisseurs of oxygen-free copper. Secondly, the frequency response was corrected: the number and pumping of low frequencies decreased, and the middle and high frequency ranges received improved detail. So even those users who were satisfied with everything in previous models will be able to appreciate how much sharper and more balanced the sound has become.

Games and movies

Perhaps the explosions now sound less convincing and don’t shake the spine. But now the headset is suitable not only for listening to explosions and second-rate rap. ;) From the point of view of game audio, the special effects are still pleasant to the ear and do not feel like a dull “audio confirmation” of what is happening on the screen. At the same time, HyperX Cloud Revolver conveys the direction of sound much better than its predecessor and handles details more delicately.

Music

Music... oh, everything is always complicated with it. Let's just say: there are headphones in the lower price range. Sometimes there are models that play surprisingly well, but you won’t find any miracles there. There is an average price range - here “plays well” - this is the norm, but there are also deviations, both for the better and for the worse. Well, there is an upper price range, beyond which the confrontation between lifeless transistors and warm lamps begins, a marvelous habitat network cables for 100,500 dollars and other perversions.

So here it is. In terms of reproduction of “ordinary” music, which most fully utilizes the entire spectrum of frequencies: rock, jazz, their modern derivatives - everything is wonderful. The sound is close to hi-end headphones, which is not what you expect from this kind of product. Especially if you take into account the fact that this is a gaming series of headsets with a corresponding imprint on the sound panorama.

The guitars play cleanly, the vocals (both high and low) sound pleasant, the drums are separated and do not merge into one rattling mess, the wind instruments are very juicy and rich in overtones, and low frequencies you will have enough, unless, of course, you live somewhere in the Bronx or Harlem area.

Just don’t think that the frequency response has now failed and there is no bass in the headphones. It’s just that in the previous model there were a little too many of them - now the balance is almost perfect, and hard rock sounds three-dimensional, and jazz compositions do not look flat, and opera vocals are conveyed well.

In general, with good music and a good signal source, you get a picture that is more typical for headphones costing 15-20 thousand rubles, rather than for a universal headset. Perhaps the sound is not so “clean”, but in terms of sound characteristics and balance, it is definitely better than many, many options.

Microphone

Don’t be confused by the thick boom of the microphone; it is flexible and holds its shape well, and it won’t break or fray from frequent use, as sometimes happens with thin “corrugated” microphone arms. The pickup is far from studio-quality and it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to record a hit on it at home, but no one is demanding that. The voice is recorded clearly and cleanly, spitting and breathing are reliably filtered special insert, external noise is cut off by a well-thought-out design.

For Skype and all sorts of RaidCalls, TeamSpeaks and other gaming systems voice communication fits almost perfectly. The voice is recognizable, no garbage is created on the air, what else is needed for happiness? It is correct that this entire system does not pick up interference. It’s probably funny to you now, but I have one headset in which, when the microphone is turned off, you can hear either some kind of radio with a lot of interference, or some kind of TV channel. It’s very difficult to figure out what exactly is starting to play in your interlocutor’s mind, but the very fact of such… gifts on the air is not encouraging. The situation is even worse with “internal” shielding: let’s say your microphone is turned off (with a button / switch / simply torn off from the headphones), and you are listening to music. But your interlocutor hears it. Quiet, with interference, but he hears. How can you sell such headphones for 5-10 thousand rubles? And this problem is not uncommon.

Of course, HyperX Cloud Revolver does not suffer from this. When the microphone is turned off, there is deathly silence on air. Yes, even if you just remain silent, no sounds or interference are transmitted. Pass!

Let's sum it up

The engineers were faced with the task of creating a high-quality and reliable headset: ensuring good sound, “versatility” of use, developing a convenient microphone and making sure that the rating in the store was not full of one-star comments with the caption “broke after 2-3-5-N months of home use "

A clear hit on target. The headset turned out to be very light. You can spend the whole day wearing it without any ear, neck, or cranial fatigue. The skin under the ear pads does not sweat, there is sufficient air circulation, and the finishing material absorbs and removes excess moisture. The headphones fit perfectly on completely different heads (thanks to the successful attachment of the speaker cups to the headband), they sound good, and the microphone knows its job.

Pleasant sound, minimalistic design, in which no money was wasted on useless things like backlights, competent design and almost complete absence of competitors. Models with a similar set of characteristics are either more expensive or inferior in sound quality/assembly/materials/convenience.

If anyone is interested in numbers and exact performance characteristics, here they are:

One of best devices for office telephone installation - desktop IP telephone. However, when dealing with a large flow of calls, many people prefer to use headsets.

Today we’ll take a closer look at the following questions:

Is it really impossible to do without headsets? Will headsets help save money on operator jobs? What is the difference between cheap and expensive models? Which headset should you choose?

Why a headset and not a regular phone?

Many employees spend most of their working day talking on the phone. These are call center operators, sales specialists, consultants, etc. It is inconvenient for them to use regular phones, because at the same time as talking, they often have to do something on the computer, pressing the handset to their shoulder with their head. Very quickly the neck begins to become stiff, and by the middle of the day the discomfort becomes simply unbearable. Employees' productivity drops sharply - they try to end conversations early and take frequent smoking breaks.

This problem is solved by using telephone headsets.

In addition to taking care of health, headsets increase productivity and quality of work - both hands of the employee are completely free. This allows during telephone conversation fully work with documents, enter detailed data into CRM, generate order forms or send commercial proposals. The headset makes it possible to solve many problems directly during a call, thereby reducing the time for post-call processing.

There are a huge number of headsets on the market with a wide range of prices, from 100 to 20,000 rubles. Which one to choose?

How not to make a mistake with your choice

One of the very first instincts when choosing a headset is to save money. Well, really, a headset is a headband, two headphones and a microphone. What could cost more than several hundred rubles? Well, if you make only a few calls a day, spend no more than half an hour in the headset, you don’t care about the sound quality, background hiss and crackles - then yes, you can save money by buying a cheap headset.

However, in practice, cheap headsets (priced up to ~1000 rubles) are practically unsuitable for serious work with calls.

The low quality of electronics and case materials makes them unreliable and fragile - failures will occur one after another. The foam of the ear pads wears out quickly. Thin wires quickly become unusable (especially if they fall on the floor under the wheel of an office chair). They sit uncomfortably on the ears, causing discomfort.

And the situation with such headsets is very bad in terms of communication quality. Noises, crackles, voice interruptions, sound distortions are constant companions of headsets. Low quality. Therefore, using cheap headsets will lead to guaranteed disappointment.

But what to do? Is it possible to get all the benefits of hands-free service by providing operators with reliable, high-quality communications at a reasonable price?

Yes, you can. The secret is simple - you need to choose high-quality headsets!

Differences between a quality headset

What distinguishes a professional headset from a “regular” one? First of all, the materials and technologies used.

A good headset mount is made of high quality plastic and metal parts, and the ear pads are made of polyurethane or leather. Wires with strong braiding and insulation from interference are used. All this increases the reliability and durability of the device.

In constant use, a professional headset can serve for several years without problems or breakdowns, maintaining the strength of the structure and the integrity of the ear pads.

Professional headsets are also ergonomically designed and lightweight, allowing them to be used throughout the workday without discomfort.

And, perhaps, the most important thing is high quality microphone(in some models - up to three microphones!) and noise reduction technologies that guarantee voice transmission without distortion.

This is especially important when employees are in a common room where there is someone talking, walking and making noise. You don't want your customers to hear all these extraneous sounds? Noise-canceling technologies in good microphones remove up to 90% of such noise.

The cost of high-quality headsets starts from 2,000 rubles, which is comparable to the cost of junior models of IP phones. And this price is completely justified. The materials and technologies used in good headsets are quite comparable to desktop devices. However, the benefits of good headsets for employees who work a lot with calls will be even greater.

Which models are both high quality and relatively inexpensive?

Leaders in the production of professional headsets are Jabra, Sennheiser and Plantronics.

We recommend that you pay attention to the optimal quality, in our opinion, model of the professional headset Sennheiser SC 260 USB CTRL. This is a wideband stereo headset designed for professional use in call centers and offices.

The SC 260 USB CTRL is based on patented Circleflex technology: easy adjustment of the headphones using a double headband with numbered positions. The control panel built into the wire allows you to adjust the volume, temporarily mute the microphone, answer the call and end the call. Noise canceling microphone ensures speech intelligibility.

The headband design is reinforced with metal tape. The microphone holder's swivel design allows it to be mounted on either the right or left side.

If you are looking for budget solution, but still want to get all the main advantages of professional headsets, then pay attention to the JABRA UC VOICE 150 model.

Rugged design, a comfortable fit on the head without putting pressure on the ears, and a noise-cancelling microphone are the key elements that will allow your employees to enjoy the convenience of using the headset, and your customers to enjoy excellent call quality. And all this at one of the lowest prices in its segment.

Now everything is clear!

So, let's summarize the conclusions:

Headsets are convenient, comfortable and increase work efficiency.

Cheap headsets costing 100 - 500 rubles are not recommended for working with clients.

Professional headsets are distinguished by their reliable design and high sound quality.

Such headsets cost money and you won’t be able to avoid expenses completely.

The price of a good headset is comparable to the cost of an IP phone.

If you just need to equip several workstations in the office, then simple IP phones are suitable for this. But if you need to organize a system to handle a large flow of calls, investing in professional headsets is the best solution.

Headsets are not a way to significantly reduce costs, so you should not consider them as a means of reducing the cost of installing telephones in workplaces. Trying to save money will lead to disastrous results.

What headsets do you use?

The use of a wireless headset is required when you need to talk on the phone, but need your hands free

Despite the fact that the data transmission format called “blue tooth”, or Bluetooth, was developed in 1990, it still remains the most popular and is used in all models of smartphones, mobile phones, laptops or even televisions. Among the main advantages this standard wireless communication refers to stability and almost complete absence of distortion during transmission even audio information from the source directly to the headphones.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION!

At the dawn of the format’s formation, it did not guarantee high speed transmission of information, but the gradual development and improvement of the version has led to the fact that the modern protocol even allows the transmission of media content.

The range when using Bluetooth is 10-20 meters, depending on the power of the transmitter itself generating the signal. This is often enough to pair a mobile phone and wireless headphones or headsets.

The operating principle of the protocol is to use special radio waves passing in the IMS range. This allows you to increase the frequency of channel changes to achieve increased safety in your application. wireless transmission data. Multiple frequency changes prevent other devices with Bluetooth from affecting signal reception/transmission. This protocol has its advantages and disadvantages, which should be taken into account if you want to buy a Bluetooth headset for your phone.

Despite the disadvantages, the advantages prevail, and the ability to completely free your hands when talking on a mobile phone is the determining criterion when choosing a wireless device.

Wireless Bluetooth headphones for your phone: how to choose

Most users choose a wireless headset based on its appearance. This parameter is essential, but not the main one, since an amazing technical potential can be hidden under a nondescript appearance, and a bright, unusually shaped device will produce mediocre sound. There are several criteria by which you should select wireless headsets.

The operating time of the device will depend on the battery capacity

Working hours

Autonomy can be considered one of the determining parameters when choosing a wireless device, since it will be very unpleasant when the headset turns off at the most crucial moment of an important conversation. The choice of battery capacity will depend on the frequency of use of the device. If you plan to make multiple calls throughout the day, then it is better to choose powerful batteries.

IMPORTANT!

The average operating time of most modern headsets ranges from 4 to 9 hours when talking or listening to music. Devices charge in 1.5-2 hours. There are models on the market that have built-in solar panels, but their cost will be several times higher than usual.

Modern monophonic headsets are an example of minimalism and the height of ergonomics

Ergonomics

The next factor that is taken into account when choosing the best Bluetooth headphones is ergonomics. This includes:

  • weight. For long-term use, it is recommended to choose the lightest models so that your ears do not get tired;
  • earphone type. They come in three varieties: in the form of earbuds that are inserted into the auricle, overhead ones that are held in the ears by means of a bow, and plug-in ones designed to be inserted inside the ear canal;
  • temple size. If you plan to use a headset with an overhead earpiece, you should first measure it on your own head, especially if the person wears glasses, so that the device does not create inconvenience.

Version 5.0 has been finalized, but so far there are no wireless devices on the market that support this protocol

Bluetooth version

The rating of the best wireless headphones for phones includes models that have exclusively the most modern versions of the protocol. Currently, the optimal devices are those that support the 3.0 format.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION!

The latest version of the Bluetooth protocol is 5.0, which has already been finalized. But wireless headsets that support this format do not yet exist.

Upgrading the version, as reviews from competent specialized publications show, affects the efficiency of battery consumption. For high-quality transmission of voice information or music, you should choose devices that support version no lower than 2.1.

Other selection options

There are many additional options that a modern wireless headset. All of them improve the quality and comfort of using the gadget:

FOR YOUR INFORMATION!

Depending on the cost of the model and manufacturer, this may be a full-fledged call to a subscriber from address book or simply pick up the phone when there is an incoming call.

Additional selection criteria include the degree of protection of the headset from moisture. This will be useful for lovers of an active lifestyle and sports. The waterproof casing prevents moisture or sweat from penetrating inside. Also useful is the microphone mute function, which allows you to hide your speech from the interlocutor during a conversation. Some advanced models are equipped with the ability to automatically adjust the volume depending on the external noise level. There are even headsets for motorcyclists that remove sound vibrations in the larynx when talking.

The presence of moisture insulation will ensure the safety of the device when exposed to rain

Basic types of wireless headsets

There are two main types of devices for wireless communication support, which differ in their purpose and functionality.

Wireless Bluetooth Headphones

A stereo headset is a headphone that can be in-ear (in-ear) or full-fledged with ear pads. The choice of a specific type will depend on the subjective preferences of the user and the degree of comfort desired. Full-fledged ones have the maximum degree of noise reduction provided by the ear pads.

Full-fledged headphones provide the highest quality sound and comfort, but not everyone likes big “ears” on their heads

In-canal, which are inserted into the ear canal, will optimal choice for athletes, as they provide compactness and fit securely in the ear. The most weak link are false “ears” that cannot be worn for more than 3-4 hours, since constant pressure on the auricle leads to painful sensations.

The on-ear type puts too much pressure on the ear, which can lead to pain during prolonged use.

When choosing wireless headphones, if, in addition to talking on the phone, you plan to use them to listen to music content, you should pay attention to support for codecs that provide better sound transmission:

  1. SBC. A format that is as close as possible to the usual MP3, but is built on a slightly different principle - reducing the time it takes to calculate the output signal. The result is that all frequencies above 14 kHz are cut off, which can affect playback quality even at high bitrates.
  2. LDAC. The codec that is used in Sony Bluetooth headsets, as it is developed by this company. This format produces high-quality sound that is comparable to wired headphones, but the downside is that the devices are limited to only one brand.
  3. aptX HD. Codec used in the bulk of high-quality headsets. The resulting signal is as close as possible to Hi-Res sound with 4:1 compression and a bitrate of 576 kbps. Audio frequencies up to 48 kHz are supported.
  4. ACC. The use of more complex computational algorithms allows you to achieve better sound quality than MP produces. The main thing to unlock the potential of this codec is that both devices support it.

Regardless of the characteristics of wireless headphones, when choosing specific device The final factor will be the sound quality, which is determined by listening directly in the store.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION!

The opinion that using an equalizer will help improve sound quality is wrong. A low-quality codec cannot be made to sound perfect. The maximum that tuning gives is a change in the character of the sound.

A headset on one ear allows you to maintain control over your surroundings, which is very convenient for drivers while driving

Bluetooth headset for phone on one ear

The second type of wireless headsets are monophonic headsets, which are an earpiece with a microphone attached to one ear. The main area of application of this variety is talking on the phone, since the presence of only one playback channel will not allow you to fully listen to music. The main advantages include compactness and low weight (10-12 g), which allows you to use the gadget throughout the day without discomfort. The absence of stereo headphones frees up the other ear. Therefore, a person can perceive external noises and not lose attention, which is very important for drivers.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION!

All controls for a monophonic headset are located directly on the body of the device, which is very convenient.
