Samsung laptop design and ergonomics
At first glance, it is difficult to distinguish the R560 from most earlier versions of Samsung laptops - the same shape, the same glossy display cover, the same matte plastic on the ends and bottom. Indeed, the difference is mainly in the configuration, but this difference is noticeable.
The front edge of the case is varnished in burgundy color, which smoothly turns into black.
Another noticeable detail is the familiar Samsung laptop touchpad, it is now surrounded by a plastic frame with a chrome surface. Also, a chrome insert is installed above the keyboard unit.
It seems that these innovations are nothing special, but the design of the laptop has noticeably “freshened up”, and this has been required for a long time.
After all, all the “glossy” Samsung laptops released over the last year and a half, even with different screen diagonals, were similar, like twin brothers. In general, Samsung is actively promoting the new Crystal-Look design concept.
The build quality of the laptop is good - nothing is loose, there are no gaps in the battery mount, the joints between the body panels are small and uniform.
However, when you try to twist and squeeze, the laptop readily creaks due to the insufficient thickness of the case panels, but the case is sufficiently rigid and does not bend when twisted.
According to company representatives, the glossy finish of this model is made of a completely new material that is less sensitive to mechanical stress.
Coverage is valid scratches less than in earlier models, but it collects a variety of prints just as quickly. Therefore, the included cloth for cleaning the display is more often used to clean the entire case.
On the front panel there is a slot for memory cards (7-in-1) and seven icons indicating system status and activity (three indicators for Lock keys, hard disk access, activity network devices and diet).
Most of the rear wall is occupied by the battery, to the left of which there is an RJ-11 connector, and to the right - two USB, RJ-45 and a socket for connecting an external power source.
The left panel contains one USB connector, a VGA port, a ventilation grille with huge cells, an HDMI port, a pair of standard 3.5 mm audio jacks and a slot for ExpressCard/54 expansion cards.
On right side- drive tray optical disks and a Kensigton security lock lug. The laptop can be equipped with a TV tuner, but since the configuration tested does not have one, a plug is installed in place of the antenna connector.
On the bottom there is access to two compartments - memory modules and hard drive. Despite the fact that the laptop is “armed to the teeth” and its energy appetite and, therefore, heat generation should be quite high.
The number of ventilation holes on the bottom is minimal, and they are concentrated mainly on the cover of the memory module compartment.
Keyboards of all Samsung laptops, and R560 including, coated with a thin layer of positively charged silver ions - proprietary Silver Nano technology performs an antibacterial function.
A very useful feature, especially considering studies that claim that keyboards mobile phones and laptops, due to the high surface temperature, are real incubators for bacteria.
Installed in the laptop full size keyboard with a letter key width of 18.5 mm.
The keystrokes are soft and quiet, but the moment of actuation is unclear, and when working with the keyboard, you have to press the keys all the way to be sure.
The Cyrillic and Latin characters are printed in light purple and white, respectively - this is traditional for Samsung laptops.
The touch panel has average dimensions - 70x44 mm, the size of the manipulator keys is 35x10 mm. As mentioned above, the pointing pad is surrounded by a tactile edge that makes it easy to find the touchpad in the dark.

The display is quite contrasty and clear, but that's where the positives end. Vertical viewing angles are small, and when deviating from the right viewing angle, the colors quickly fade and invert, the matrix turns a little yellow, and when exposed to direct sunlight, it goes blind.
There are eight brightness levels. The minimum level is so low that it is not enough to work even in absolute darkness, and the maximum level is insufficient not only to work outdoors on a sunny day, but also sometimes indoors would like more brightness.
However, the manufacturer does not hide the low brightness of the matrix - the declared brightness is only 185 cd/m2.
Laptop audio subsystem
The laptop under test has one of the most popular chipset audio codecs among manufacturers - Realtek ALC262, which has the following declared characteristics: four channels (according to the 2+2 formula) HD audio, S/PDIF, the ability to work with 24-bit/192 kHz audio.
The signal-to-noise ratio of the ADC is 90 dB, the DAC is 100 dB. With more detailed characteristics can be found on the manufacturer's website. The codec seems to be simple, but it is also used in more expensive multimedia models, for example, ASUS W2W and Toshiba Qosmio G40.
The first start of the melody is shock and quiet horror. Noises at idle; when listening to a melody, you get the feeling that an old gramophone is playing. Even the speaker of a mobile phone, let alone a laptop, can’t sound that bad.
Of course, Samsung laptops have never been distinguished by the standard sound quality of their built-in acoustics, but connecting headphones did not have any positive effect.
Perhaps the default settings are to blame? That’s right - the Samsung EDS (Enhanced Digital Sound) tab is available in the sound settings.
After the checkbox that activated various sound options was removed, the sound of the built-in acoustics became much better - on par with all Samsung laptops.
When testing the audio path, it was decided to carry out measurements with the Samsung EDS (speaker music mode) system activated and without it.
The audio path was tested in the popular RightMark Audio Analyzer 6.0.6 test package. (hereinafter referred to as RMAA) using the Creative E-MU 0202 USB audio interface. Default equalizer settings.

As measurements have shown, as well as our own observations, various software sound optimizers actually only worsen the overall sound picture. And this applies not only to laptops, but also to portable players and music phones.
The overall rating is "good" - not too bad for a laptop, but lovers of high-quality sound should shell out for an external sound interface.
Laptop wireless interfaces
Instead of the usual Intel WiFi Link 4965, the tested laptop has an Intel WiFi Link 5100 module - this module is required in the Centrino 2 platform. The Samsung R560 is also equipped with a Broadcom 2045 Bluetooth module.
To configure wireless connections can be used as standard means OS and the proprietary Samsung Easy Network Manager utility.
Noise level and heat dissipation
It's time to remember that the laptop is built on the Centrino 2 platform, which uses processors with a lower TDP than its predecessors, which in turn means less heat and, therefore, less noise from the cooling system.
So, everything in order. The temperature of the exhaust air is 51.7 degrees Celsius - nothing supernatural.
The working surface temperature ranges from 25.1 to 32.4 degrees, with the hottest point - 32.4 degrees - located on the touch panel.
The keyboard temperature is 27.4-30.2 degrees - cooler at the right edge, hotter at the left. The bottom temperature ranges from 25.3 to 35.8 degrees in the CPU area. The temperature range of the video card is from 40 to 65 degrees.
Summary - we didn’t notice any particular difference from laptops on the old platform. All measurements were carried out at a temperature environment+21 degrees Celsius.
Now - about the noise made by the laptop. During idle time, the noise generated by the cooling system does not exceed 34.1 dB; when prolonged high loads on the processor occur, the fan slightly increases the rotation speed, and the noise is 35.7 dB.
And only under high and long-term loads on the CPU and video subsystem, the fan rarely and briefly (up to 15 seconds) spins up to maximum speed, and the noise level is 40.7 dB.
Such a jump occurs extremely rarely - for example, when running the 3DMark Vantage test package, only two such jumps were recorded, each lasting no more than 8 seconds, after which the noise level returned to 35.0-35.7 dB.
In a word - bravo! It's hard to find such a powerful and quiet laptop. All noise level measurements were taken at a distance of 20 cm from the center of the front edge of the laptop.
Due to the small number of models already tested in the PC Mark Vantage package, a laptop of another class was chosen as an opponent - ASUS Lamborghini VX3, the results of which are presented only for comparison purposes.

Power supply and battery life
Samsung laptops always produced excellent results during battery testing. But the R560 is built on the Centrino 2 platform, the use of which, according to the statement Intel, increases battery life.
And, apparently, this statement is not so far from the truth. When tested in Battery Eater Pro 2.7 in classic mode, the laptop lasted 179 minutes. Three hours of battery life under high load is a very good result.
And if you consider that only a six-cell battery with a capacity of 5200 mAh is used, then overall it’s excellent! By the way, the battery full charge time is 138 minutes.
The advantages of the Samsung R560 include a good package, including a recovery disk, good quality assemblies, fresh design, HDMI port, high performance, low level noise, relatively low heating, long battery life and relatively low cost.
Having come to terms with the mediocre quality of the built-in sound, you can give it a badge of honor. But there are a few more “buts” that do not allow this: the matrix is not bright enough with small viewing angles, the glossy surface of the case is too easily soiled, there are only three USB ports, the right edge of the keyboard bends a little when pressed.

Design and ergonomics
At first glance, it is difficult to distinguish the R560 from most earlier versions of Samsung laptops - the same shape, the same glossy display cover, the same matte plastic on the ends and bottom. Indeed, the difference is mainly in the configuration, but this difference is noticeable.The front edge of the case is varnished in burgundy color, which smoothly turns into black. This color combination is not new; it is used, for example, in the design of the display cover of the Toshiba Satellite X200 model. Another noticeable detail is the familiar touchpad on Samsung laptops, but now it is surrounded by a plastic frame with a chrome surface. Also, a chrome insert is installed above the keyboard unit.
It seems that these innovations are nothing special, but the design of the laptop has noticeably “freshened up”, and this has been required for a long time. After all, all the “glossy” Samsung laptops released over the last year and a half, even with different screen diagonals, were similar, like twin brothers. In general, Samsung is actively promoting the new Crystal-Look design concept.
The build quality of the laptop is good - nothing is loose, there are no gaps in the battery mount, the joints between the body panels are small and uniform. However, when you try to twist and squeeze, the laptop readily creaks due to the insufficient thickness of the case panels, but the case is sufficiently rigid and does not bend when twisted. According to company representatives, the glossy finish of this model is made of a completely new material that is less sensitive to mechanical stress. The coating actually scratches less than in earlier models, but it collects a variety of prints just as quickly. Therefore, the included cloth for cleaning the display is more often used to clean the entire case.
On the front panel there is a slot for memory cards (7-in-1) and seven icons indicating the status and activity of the system (three indicators for Lock keys, hard disk access, network device activity and power mode).
Most of the rear wall is occupied by the battery, to the left of which there is an RJ-11 connector, and to the right - two USB, RJ-45 and a socket for connecting an external power source.
The left panel contains one USB connector, a VGA port, a ventilation grille with huge cells, an HDMI port, a pair of standard 3.5 mm audio jacks and a slot for ExpressCard/54 expansion cards.
On the right side is the optical drive tray and Kensigton security lock tab. The laptop can be equipped with a TV tuner, but since the configuration tested does not have one, a plug is installed in place of the antenna connector.
On the bottom there is access to two compartments - memory modules and hard drive. Despite the fact that the laptop is “armed to the teeth” and its energy appetite and, therefore, heat generation should be quite high, the number of ventilation holes on the bottom is minimal, and they are concentrated mainly on the lid of the memory module compartment. The keyboards of all Samsung laptops, including the R560, are coated with a thin layer of positively charged silver ions - proprietary Silver Nano technology performs an antibacterial function. A very useful feature, especially considering studies that claim that the keyboards of mobile phones and laptops, due to the high surface temperature, are real incubators for bacteria. The laptop has a full-size keyboard with letter keys 18.5 mm wide. The keystrokes are soft and quiet, but the moment of actuation is unclear, and when working with the keyboard, you have to press the keys all the way to be sure. The Cyrillic and Latin characters are printed in light purple and white, respectively - this is traditional for Samsung laptops. Among the shortcomings, it is worth noting a slight deflection of the right side of the keyboard when there is strong pressure on the keys.
The touch panel has average dimensions - 70x44 mm, the size of the manipulator keys is 35x10 mm. As mentioned above, the pointing pad is surrounded by a tactile edge that makes it easy to find the touchpad in the dark.
Above the keyboard unit there is a pair of speakers and a power button. On the top edge of the display there is a window for a fixed 1.3 MP web camera
Display
The laptop is equipped with a wide-format “glossy” Samsung LTN154P4 matrix with WSXGA+ resolution (1680x1050). You can get acquainted with the characteristics of the matrix on the manufacturer’s website. The display is quite contrasty and clear, but that's where the positives end. Vertical viewing angles are small, and when deviating from the right viewing angle, the colors quickly fade and invert, the matrix turns a little yellow, and when exposed to direct sunlight, it goes blind. There are eight brightness levels. The minimum level is so low that it is not enough to work even in absolute darkness, and the maximum level is insufficient not only to work outdoors on a sunny day, but also sometimes indoors would like more brightness. However, the manufacturer does not hide the low brightness of the matrix - the declared brightness is only 185 cd/m2.Sound subsystem
The laptop under test has one of the most popular chipset audio codecs among manufacturers - Realtek ALC262, which has the following declared characteristics: four channels (according to the 2+2 formula) HD audio, S/PDIF, the ability to work with 24-bit/192 kHz audio. The signal-to-noise ratio of the ADC is 90 dB, the DAC is 100 dB. More detailed specifications can be found on the manufacturer's website. The codec seems to be simple, but it is also used in more expensive multimedia models, for example, ASUS W2W and Toshiba Qosmio G40. The first start of the melody is shock and quiet horror. Noises at idle; when listening to a melody, you get the feeling that an old gramophone is playing. Even the speaker of a mobile phone, let alone a laptop, can’t sound that bad. Of course, Samsung laptops have never been distinguished by the standard sound quality of their built-in acoustics, but connecting headphones did not have any positive effect. Perhaps the default settings are to blame? That’s right - the Samsung EDS (Enhanced Digital Sound) tab is available in the sound settings.After unchecking the box that enabled various sound options, the sound of the built-in speakers became much better - on par with all Samsung laptops. When testing the audio path, it was decided to carry out measurements with activated Samsung system EDS (speaker music mode) and without it. The audio path was tested in the popular RightMark Audio Analyzer 6.0.6 test package. (hereinafter referred to as RMAA) using the Creative E-MU 0202 USB audio interface. Default equalizer settings. As measurements have shown, as well as our own observations, various software sound optimizers actually only worsen the overall sound picture. And this applies not only to laptops, but also to portable players and music phones. The overall rating is "good" - not too bad for a laptop, but lovers of high-quality sound should shell out for an external sound interface.
Wireless interfaces
Instead of the usual Intel WiFi Link 4965, the tested laptop has an Intel WiFi Link 5100 module - this module is required in the Centrino 2 platform. The Samsung R560 is also equipped with a Broadcom 2045 Bluetooth module. Both standard OS tools and Samsung's proprietary Easy Network Manager utility can be used to configure wireless connections.Noise level and heat dissipation
It's time to remember that the laptop is built on the Centrino 2 platform, which uses processors with a lower TDP than its predecessors, which in turn means less heat and, therefore, less noise from the cooling system. So, everything in order. The temperature of the exhaust air is 51.7 degrees Celsius - nothing supernatural. The working surface temperature ranges from 25.1 to 32.4 degrees, with the hottest point - 32.4 degrees - located at touchpad. The keyboard temperature is 27.4-30.2 degrees - cooler at the right edge, hotter at the left. The bottom temperature ranges from 25.3 to 35.8 degrees in the CPU area. The temperature range of the video card is from 40 to 65 degrees. Summary - we didn’t notice any particular difference from laptops on the old platform. All measurements were carried out at an ambient temperature of +21 degrees Celsius.Now - about the noise made by the laptop. During idle time, the noise generated by the cooling system does not exceed 34.1 dB; when prolonged high loads on the processor occur, the fan slightly increases the rotation speed, and the noise is 35.7 dB. And only under high and long-term loads on the CPU and video subsystem, the fan rarely and briefly (up to 15 seconds) spins up to maximum speed, and the noise level is 40.7 dB. Such a jump occurs extremely rarely - for example, when running the 3DMark Vantage test package, only two such jumps were recorded, each lasting no more than 8 seconds, after which the noise level returned to 35.0-35.7 dB. In a word - bravo! It's hard to find such a powerful and quiet laptop. All noise level measurements were taken at a distance of 20 cm from the center of the front edge of the laptop.

The new Samsung R560 - Aura P8400 Madril is suitable for absolutely any application. It doesn't matter whether it's simple office work, or resource-intensive multimedia applications, or games - this laptop will allow you to do whatever you want. On this moment There are two versions of the R560 model on the market: Aura P7350 Maloz and the already mentioned Samsung R560 - Aura P8400 Madril.
These two powerful laptops very similar, the differences between them are not visible at first glance. But anyone who takes a closer look will quickly discover two fundamental differences. The first, obvious difference follows from their names - R560 - Aura P7350 Maloz has a slightly weaker processor. Don't let the word "weak" fool you, though, because this is still a P7350. two nuclear processor from 2GHz, 1066 MHz FSB and 3 MB Level 2 cache. The new models have higher clock speeds and better power savings than their predecessors.
The second difference is the presence of a built-in Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate). The retail price of these two models differs by 120 Euro. Bluetooth is used to wirelessly connect to a laptop, such as a cell phone, to transfer music, videos or pictures. Of course, a card reader can also perform this function, and laptops of this class always have a built-in reader, so the importance of Bluetooth should not be overestimated.

Samsung always stands firmly on the table. And it doesn't matter whether there's a battery inside or not, all six rubber shock absorbers on the underside of the case keep the laptop in place.
CONNECTORS

Concerning sound capabilities, Samsung only has analog headphone output(green) and microphone(pink). If this is not enough for you, you can connect an external sound card via PCI-Express connection.
A very useful interface is multi memory card slot. With it you can read and write memory cards such as SD, XD, MMC (MultiMediaCard), MMC Plus and SDHC. Memory cards for digital cameras and cell phones fall under these formats. If your card does not fit into the slot, there are adapters for cards.

The power button is located off the keyboard, making it easy to find. The keyboard has many multifunction keys. For example, pressing FN and F4 switches the laptop screen to the projector. Thanks to the presence of two FN keys, it is possible to use the multifunction keys with one hand.
