Routers under the D-Link brand are among the most popular in Russia. Their main advantages are low price, reliability, sufficient provision high speed Internet access.

Routers of the D-Link DIR series have become especially popular in the Russian Federation: 620, 2640U, 320, 615, 300, equipped Wi-Fi module. In turn, the most popular wired device is the D-Link DIR 2500U. How is the D-Link DIR router configured depending on the modification? Are there noticeable differences in working with devices of different series?

It can be noted that, regardless of which specific modification the router released by D-Link belongs to, the device is configured using similar algorithms. At the same time, setting the necessary options when working with almost any D-Link series modem is a fairly simple procedure. However, there are specific features for each device. And therefore, we are exploring them, studying the specifics of working with each device of the marked series.

Router D-Link 620

Let's look at how to configure the D-Link 620 router. In this guide, we will connect the Internet, which is accessed via an Ethernet channel. First of all, we connect the appropriate cable to the appropriate port on the router.

The next step is to configure the software part of the connection interface on the PC. To do this, you need to enter the “Control Panel” of the operating room. Windows systems, then select “ Network connections" Then we find the network card (or select the one that is used to connect to the Internet), right-click and select “Properties”. Next, left-click on the “TCP/IP Protocol” item. Select “Properties”. We set the settings to “automatic” in all points.

The next step is to connect the PC’s network card and one of the free ports of the router using an Ethernet cable ( this type cable is typical when connecting to the Internet via network card).

Next, open a window in any browser, for example, Internet Explorer, Opera or Google Chrome- not important, the functionality of the required interface does not depend on the type of program used. Enter the following command into the address bar - 192.168.0.1, press Enter. After this, the user is taken to the router management window. You will be required to enter a username and password. In most cases, when setting up a D-Link router, you must enter admin in both fields. This is a universal login and password programmed at the factory for devices of the type in question.

After entering the router management area, select the tab called “Network”. Next, click on “Connections”, then on the WAN connection icon. On the page that will load after clicking on WAN, you will need to make sure that the boxes for obtaining a DNS address and IP are checked. In general, you don't need to change anything on this page. Most modern Russian providers do not require any adjustment this setting D-Link router. Rostelecom, for example, is among them.

Next, return to the “Network” and “Connection” tab. Click “Add”. After this, you will need to enter the settings that must be provided by the provider operating in a particular city (moreover, they may differ for houses located in different parts of the locality). After entering the required values, click “Save”.

Wi-Fi setup specifics

As a rule, if you are setting up a D-Link router, WiFi can also be activated. In order to use wireless module device, you must select the “Network” tab again, then “Wi-Fi”. In the window that opens, enter the network name - any convenient for the user, in Latin letters. You can also set the maximum number of devices (“clients”) simultaneously connected to the router. For example, if a person uses three devices - say, a PC, a laptop and a smartphone, then you can enter the number 3.

Next, select the “Security Settings” tab. We install authentication using the WPA2/PSK mixed standard (mixed type of security) - it is considered one of the most reliable. We choose TKIP+AES encryption, since this option is considered by many IT experts to be optimal from the point of view of network protection. After that, enter the password. Its minimum length is 8 characters. However, IT specialists recommend entering a longer password. It should also be, if possible, complex - so that it is difficult to guess. Using a password, you can control access to a Wi-Fi network, sharing it only with those people who have the right to use the Internet to which the owner of the router is connected.

Note that Wi-Fi setup, the main nuances of which we noted, is generally carried out according to the same principles also when working with other routers of the series in question.

After all the settings, click “System”, then “Save and reboot”. This completes the setup of the D-Link 620 router. In a few minutes you can start using the Internet. If something doesn't work, it is advisable to contact the provider's support service.

As a rule, if the connection to the network was successful, then once the router settings are fixed, they should ensure the proper operation of the entire system subsequently. At the same time, in some cases, one or another type of technological upgrade may occur on the Internet provider’s side, which may predetermine the need to adjust the operation of the router. In this case, the user will likely have to communicate with the service provider to determine the most optimal device settings.

Setting up the D-Link 2500U device

Let's now look at how to configure the D-Link 2500U router, another popular device. From the point of view of working with Windows software interfaces, the algorithm of actions is the same - you need to make sure that in the network card settings there are checkboxes opposite the items about obtaining a DNS address and IP automatically.

Just as in the case of the previous router, we connect all the wires, and then enter 192.168.1.1 into the browser line. The username and password will be admin. In most cases, the menu of a router of this brand is in English. To start setting up your Internet connection, click the WAN tab. Select the Add button, after which we get to the settings page itself. Here, as in the previous case, we will need data from the provider. The values of both VPI and VCI can vary, thus not only between different cities, but also between areas of the same settlement. After the user has entered necessary settings, you can click Next.

On the page that opens, select the correct type network protocol, also consulting with your provider. For many Russian providers of Internet access services, the PPP over Ethernet mode is typical, regarding Encapsulation Mode ("encapsulation format") - the LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING option. Click Next.

The next window, of course, will also require knowledge of data that can only be provided by the provider - this is the login and password. The remaining options on the page, as a rule, do not need to be adjusted (unless the provider's support service advises otherwise). Click Next.

Setting up a D-Link router of the series in question usually does not require adjusting the items on the page that opens, but it doesn’t hurt to consult with your provider about this issue. If technical support specialists do not give any recommendations, click Next. After moving to the next page - Apply (“apply settings”). After loading the next interface, click the Finish button and wait until the device reboots. After a few minutes you can try using the Internet. If something doesn’t work out, call technical support.

Despite the fact that this router is not equipped with a Wi-Fi module, many experts recognize it as a reliable and easy-to-use device. At the same time, as is the case with many other devices from D-Link, if the technology for providing Internet access on the part of the provider changes, the user may need to find out new settings directly from the communication service provider.

Working with the D-Link 2640U modem

Let's now study how to configure the D-Link 2640U router. The first steps in working with this device will be the same as in the case of previous devices - install through the “Control Panel” operating system Windows automatic obtaining a DNS address and IP.

Next, as when setting up previous routers, we enter the modem settings panel through the browser. The address will look like this - 192.168.1.1. The login and password will be the same - admin. The router configuration interface in this case will probably be in Russian. Select “Network” and then “Connections”. Click the “Add” button.

The most likely “connection type” is PPPoE. Connection in the “Bridge” format is much less commonly used.

Next, we specify the VPI and VCI settings - we, as in previous cases, will find them out from the provider. Similarly, we ask the service provider for a login and password (by the way, they are often indicated in the subscription agreement - you can try to find them there). It is recommended to activate the Keep Alive option. Regarding indicators for LCP, it is also recommended to find out their optimal values from the provider. But, as a rule, it is optimal to set the number 15 in the “interval” option, and 2 in the “gaps” option. Also, activate IGMP. Click the “Save” button.

Now let's move on to working with another important function, which includes setting up a D-link router - WiFi. To do this, press the Wi-Fi button, then “basic settings”. We write the desired name of the network, then set the encryption standard - just like in the case of the D-Link 620 modem, this is WPA2-PSK, enter the password for the network. Save the settings. Then click “System”. Next is the “Save and Reload” item. After a few minutes we try to use the Internet.

Setting up a D-Link 320 and 300 modem

Let's study how to configure the D-Link 320 router. It is noteworthy that the model with index 300 is configured in almost the same way. First steps - as usual, connect the wires, in Windows settings We set the DNS address and IP to be automatically obtained. Open the browser and enter 192.168.0.1 in the address bar. The login and password, as in previous cases, are the same - admin, we get to the web interface of the router control panel. As a rule, you are immediately prompted to change the factory default password to a custom one. If desired, an appropriate replacement can be made.

Next, select the “Network” menu item, then “Connections”. Click “Add”. The main settings window will open. There we choose desired type connections (usually PPPoE). In the “Setting up PPP” item, enter the username and password, which, as in previous cases, can be requested from the provider or, alternatively, found in the subscription agreement. The MTU value will also need to be checked with your network access provider; in many cases this figure is 1492. In general, these are all the settings that need to be made. We save the parameters.

Next we need to configure Wi-Fi. Select the appropriate item in the menu. Enter the desired name wireless network, setting up security. As in previous cases, select the WPA2-PSK encryption standard and enter the password. Click “Change”. Then select “System”, then “Save”. As we noted above, setting up the D-Link 300 router is performed using almost the same algorithms. This device and D-Link 320 are actually devices from the same line.

Setting up a D-Link 615 modem

Let's look at how the D-Link 615 router is configured. First, we do everything as when working with previous modems: we connect the wires, set the automatic acquisition of the DNS address and IP in Windows interfaces. Next, go to the browser and enter 192.168.0.1 in the address bar. Enter admin in the “login” and “password” fields. The system may offer to change the relevant data - if desired, we will carry out the replacement.

The distinctive specificity that characterizes this router released by D-link is that setting up a wireless connection is desirable first of all. To do this, you need to press the SETUP button in start menu device control panel. Next, select Wireless Settings. After - Manual Wireless Connection Setup.

Next, it is important to set the correct wireless connection parameters. So, regarding the PROTECTED SETUP item, it is advisable to uncheck the Enable option. At the same time, you should make sure that the checkbox next to the Enable Wireless and Always options is checked. In the Network Name section, enter the name for the network. We set the mixed type for the 802.11 communication protocol. Regarding security settings, Security Mode, it is optimal to set the WPA-Personal parameter. In the Cipher Type item, select AES. Next, enter the password (Pre-Shared Key) for the wireless network. After checking that all parameters are correct, save the settings by clicking the “Save” button.

Having configured the wireless network, you can move on to working with options related to connecting to the Internet. Press the SETUP button, then Internet, then Manual Internet Connection Setup. In the menu that opens, we have to indicate the communication protocol used (most likely it will be PPPoE), login and password (we ask the provider, look in the subscription agreement). You can also configure an additional setting by clicking on Clone MAC Address. The Connect Mode Select item should be set to Always On. The recommended MTU value should be obtained from your provider; most likely, it will be 1472. After checking that the settings are correct, click Save Settings, after which the router will save the settings and reboot. After a few minutes, you can try to start using the Internet.

Features of setting up D-Link modems

If we have at our disposal a router issued by D-Link, setting up this device is usually carried out within a very simple algorithms, generally similar for all device models. What features can be highlighted regarding the configuration of the types of devices we have considered?

First of all, we note that information from the provider will be no less useful for us, along with knowledge of the router configuration algorithm - and this main feature working with devices. Step-by-step setup D-Link router in any modification requires the appropriate data. If they are not at hand, then connecting to the Internet will be problematic, since the spread of indicators that determine the technological specifics of connecting to the network can be very large in practice, and it is not easy to guess the right one. Knowing the specifics of the standards used by the provider is an extremely important aspect; without it, it will be difficult to correctly configure a D-Link router. Beeline, Rostelecom, other large suppliers, as well as various operators may be characterized by noticeable differences in technological approaches. But, as a rule, the provider’s support service is open to communication with the user. Her specialist usually always tells you the necessary settings.

What other features does a router released under the D-Link brand have? Setting up devices within the series we reviewed, as we found out, at the very first stages of working with the devices requires entering a login and password. They are usually standard and sound like admin. But it may well turn out that the user will have at his disposal a device with changed login and password settings. Which he may not even know. But it's not a problem.

Reset

It is enough to perform a hardware “reset” of all settings of the router. To do this, press the RESET button, which is located on the back of the case. That is, in the same place as the connectors for connecting cables. Before pressing it, be sure to turn off the power to the device. After pressing, you should wait about a minute before working with the device again. After the user has reset the settings of the D-Link router, the factory login and password - admin - should work.

Please note that when you return to factory settings using the RESET button, all settings are canceled, including, in particular, those responsible for access to the wireless network. Therefore, if, for example, in the process of restoring working options, the user installs New Password on Wi-Fi, then he may need to communicate it to people who have used the network before, knowing only the previous one. Also, if, for example, devices such as a TV with Smart TV support or a set-top box were connected to the device via Wi-Fi, then the corresponding settings in them will also need to be updated if the password is set in the router.

Saving settings

The devices of the series in question have useful function saving settings (with the possibility of their subsequent restoration in case of failures). To do this, you need to set the correct settings via the router management web interface and make sure that the Internet works with them. You can then save these settings. To do this, in the main menu of the router control panel, select the TOOLS button, then SYSTEM. To save the settings to a file on your computer disk, click Save Configuration, and then select the desired location in file system. It is also useful to make a copy of the saved file on another medium, such as a flash drive. In order to, in turn, restore the settings, then, having entered the same area of the router control panel, you should click the “Browse” button (if the operating system version is Russian), and then specify the settings file that was previously written to disk or to a flash drive. Afterwards, click Restore Configuration Settings. Then you need to reboot the router by clicking the Reboot button. Also, through this interface, you can restore the factory settings by pressing the Restore Device button - the effect will be the same as when pressing the RESET button on the device body.

Reboot required

The peculiarity of the devices in the series under consideration is that when changing the settings, the device must be rebooted every time. That is, if, for example, some important file is downloaded from the Internet, and a loss of connection is undesirable, it is better not to change the router settings, but to wait until necessary information will load. Also, it may turn out that some other person is connected to the network via Wi-Fi, and a forced Internet shutdown may also be undesirable for him. Therefore, we wait until the router is free from use, and only after that we make the necessary adjustments in the settings.

Setting up the D-link DIR-615 has not yet been described in as much detail as this time. In this publication we will look at how to configure a fairly common router from D-link DIR-615. In the article I will refer, as an example, to the D-link DIR-615/A. But even if you have a router of a different brand, it doesn’t matter, since in many ways the settings are identical for everyone. Therefore, this manual is applicable to most D-link models. I will try to present everything in detail and in accessible language.

I won’t describe the features of the router itself for a long time; if necessary, you can read about DIR-615/A if you follow the link located a little higher. I will only note that this model copes well with its functions at home, or in not too large offices. With its help, uninterrupted Internet is provided to computers, tablets, and phones via a wireless connection.

In terms of setting up the D-link DIR-615, it is quite easy to do. Provided that your Internet provider uses the Dynamic IP connection method, then you just need to connect and turn on the router, and you will have access to the Internet. You just need to put a secret code on Wi-Fi and change the name, if necessary. The only thing that doesn’t suit me is that in almost all editions the settings of the D-link parameters, that is, the control panel, are changed (visually). Therefore, your router settings may look different from what is shown in this post. Although this is fixable, you just need to reflash it.

Setting up D-link DIR-615

We proceed according to the following scheme:

  1. We connect the router and enter the D-link DIR-615 settings page.
  2. Setting up an Internet connection on the router
  3. We set up a wireless network and change the password combination.

Now let's look at each of the stages in more detail.

Connect D-link DIR-615 and go to settings

Turn on your router by first connecting it to a power source. If there are no lights in the foreground, the power button on the back may be turned off. In case the setting D-link DIR-615 will be done via a cable, find the power cord and connect the access point to the computer (the cable is sold as part of the router). We connect one side of the cord to LAN black connector (to the first of four), and connect the other to network adapter laptop or computer. The Internet cable should be inserted into WAN connector, which is painted yellow.

If there is no cord available or a computer with network card, you can make settings using a wireless network. In this case, even a phone or tablet will do.

Connecting the router to a wireless network for setup

Make an Internet connection under a common name"DIR-615"

There may be protection on it. In this case, use the password indicated at the bottom of the router

Then you should open the router control panel. But first, I recommend resetting all existing settings so that if they are set, they will not fail. Thus, we will configure our router “from scratch.”

Reset settings on D-link DIR-615

Resetting the settings is not at all difficult. To do this, take a sharp object and use it to press the button. RESET, which is slightly recessed into the system case, and wait a little. Then stop pressing and wait for the router to reboot.

Log in to any Internet login program and navigate to the Internet address 192.168.0.1. A window will pop up asking for your login and secret code. If you have not changed this data, then dial admin both lines and the control panel page of your router opens.

It may be that the settings there will be on English language, which can easily be changed to a more suitable and understandable one (Russian, Ukrainian).

A window may also pop up instructing you to change the initial password used to log into the D-link control panel. Then enter any cipher you came up with and repeat the same on the next line. And be sure to remember, or better yet, write it down, since you will need to enter it every time you enter the router settings.

I recommend that you immediately, before setting up, download new software to your D-link. You can read in detail how to do this in this article . But you can configure it further without firmware, if, for example, it will be difficult for you to do this.

After entering the password, we went directly to the settings, now we can configure the router.

The sequence of the Internet setup process on the D-link DIR-615 router

  1. First of all, it is necessary find out what connection technology your provider uses. Active IP address, fixed, PPPoE (practices Dom.ru, and other Internet providers), L2TP (uses Beeline). In my articles I talked about how to find out the connection technology. It is possible to find out this information on the provider’s main website, or even call the company.

Provided that your Internet connection is made using the widely used Dynamic IP method, the router should distribute the signal as soon as a wire from the company that provides the Internet is connected to it. Then you will just need to make the wireless network settings (we’ll look at how to do this later). If you have a static IP address, then you will need to configure it.

  1. Find the tab StartClick'n'Connect. Double-check your internet cable connection and select Further.
  2. Find the required connection from the list that appears. If, for example, your connection is PPPoE, and your Internet provider also provides IP in addition to this, then we choose PPPoE + Static IP. Provided that the IP address is not provided, then put the selection icon opposite PPPoE + Dynamic IP. We do the same if the connection is L2TP.
  3. Next, enter the IP address data if it is provided to you (otherwise this window will not appear). And press the button Further.
  1. Then the “Addresses of local resources of the provider” window may open. If you don’t know what this is, or you simply don’t want to enter additional addresses, then click Further. A window will pop up asking for the connection name and username, and to enter and confirm a password. This data is provided by your Internet service provider. In order to deposit more settings, go to the Details tab

Then a survey of Internet connections and the reality of connecting to Yandex selection will be carried out. But that's if you want. Still, these settings can be changed.

The settings were considered using the example of PPPoE for the D-link DIR-615 router. Your settings may vary.

If you set up an access point, but as a result there is no Internet, “no Internet access” is displayed, or there is no access to pages, then this problem is related to the settings from the provider company. Double-check, maybe you indicated the type of connection incorrectly, or some other data.

Therefore, connecting PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP and Dynamic IP is more complicated than using the Static IP connection method.

Very important! Provided that you previously accessed the Internet using high-speed data exchange, now you, in fact, do not need it. This Internet connection will be carried out by your router and only distributed over the wire and wireless network.

Change settings from the provider using the same Click’n’Connect, or by going to NetWAN, while selecting and changing the required connection.

Provided that everything is in order and the Internet connection through the router is available, then we proceed to setting the wireless network parameters.

A clear example of setting up Wi-Fi and changing the password combination on D-link DIR-615

Now we just need to change the name of the wireless network and come up with a different secret code to secure the Wi-Fi connection.

Stand on Wi-Fi - Basic settings. Here you can change the name of our wireless connection. In line SSID enter the name of the network - Internet, and select Apply.

Next, open the menu WiFiSecurity Settings, and in the line "PSK encryption key" Enter the code; you will then use it each time to connect to the Wi-Fi network. The secret password must contain at least 8 characters. Remember, or write it somewhere so you don’t forget later

The parameter settings you have made must be saved. System - Save. This may be the final stage of setting up the D-link DIR-615 router. If no settings

If you don't want to do this anymore, then reboot it. System - Reboot.

Now the Wi-Fi network is configured. In addition, you may need to look at a more detailed article on setting up Wi-Fi.

It is also possible to change the admin password, which must be used to enter the router settings. To do this you need to use the tab System - Administrator password.

Enter the code you created twice and select the button Apply. Be sure to save the steps you have taken.

Remember or make a note secret code, so that you don’t have to reset all the settings again, since without a password, logging into the router’s control panel will be unavailable.

In this guide we will look at detailed setup router D-Link DIR-320/NRU (rev. B1), which, compared to the DIR-320 at the end of 2011, changed its web interface and added support for Wi-Fi standard 802.11n. The improvements did not end there, now Dlink-Dir 320 has learned to work with 3G modems right out of the box without any re-flashing...

In this guide, we will look at the detailed setup of the D-Link DIR-320/NRU router (rev. B1), which, compared to the DIR-320 at the end of 2011, changed its web interface and added support for Wi-Fi standard 802.11n. The improvements did not end there; now Dlink-Dir 320 has learned to work with 3G modems right out of the box without any re-flashing.
It should be noted that at the end of 2011, D-Link updated the web interface in all its other routers for home and small office. Instead of black and orange (see Fig. 1), web interface D-Link's has become poorer in color terms: now the menu items are aquamarine, and the background is regular white (see Fig. 2).

Rice. 1 Previous web interface of “Delinkov”

You can see how to configure a D-Link router with the previous firmware (in orange colors) at this link.

Rice. 2 New web interface

The color on the box of D-Link routers has also changed; now the box has also become white with sea green on the sides, as well as black on the top and bottom (see Fig. 3):

In these instructions for setting up the DIR-320/NRU, we will look in detail at how to configure this router in DHCP mode, as well as in PPTP (VPN) client mode. Our router setup guide D-Link Dir-320 NRU can be used for other models from the Dlinkov line, which have a similar web interface and functionality:
. D-Link DIR-300 (ver. B5)
. D-Link DIR-615 (ver. E4)
. D-Link DIR-655 (ver. B1)
. and other “Long” models that we might not have mentioned.
Well... Let's assume that you have in your hands one of the D-Links with a new web interface, you took it out of the cardboard box along with the power adapter and network cable. On the front side of the router you will find LED indicators, which during operation indicate the “behavior” of the router in this moment time (about the operation of its interfaces). On the rear panel, to the right of the antenna, you will find 5 network connectors: 4 of them labeled LAN are needed for connecting internal cables from home PCs, and the lone connector labeled INTERNET is used to connect network cable from the Internet provider (this interface in routers is usually called WAN). To the right of the WAN interface there is a USB connector for connecting a 3G modem from the provider wireless internet, and then there is a power connector and a RESET button recessed into the case to reset the router settings if necessary.
You can connect up to 4 PCs or laptops to the 4 LAN ports of the DIR-320 via a network cable. By the way, one of these blue cables (a regular patch cord) is already included with the router, so you can use it to perform the setup. If you need to connect more than 4 PCs to the router via cable, then you can solve the lack of port capacity using an unmanaged network switch (switch), which you connect to one of the LAN ports of the router. As a result, from one port you will get several more (depending on the capacity of the switch you buy).
We have reviewed the basic information regarding the capabilities of our router, now we can move on to setting it up. But first we need to connect the router to a computer or laptop, after which we will have access to the web interface of our router.

Connecting the D-Link DIR-320/NRU router in Windows 7 and XP
Before setting up our D-Link DIR-320, you need to complete a number of preparatory steps - find an agreement from your Internet provider (you may need information about IP parameters and connection information with the provider from there); Next, use a blue network cable to connect any LAN interface of the router to the network card on the PC or laptop from which you will perform the setup, and connect the power adapter to your router. As for the cable from the provider, it must be connected to the INTERNET (WAN) interface. If the Internet at your home is provided using ADSL or DOXIS technology, then you should connect the network cable coming from the modem to the WAN connector of the router.
Now you should switch the TCP/IP settings on your PC to DHCP client mode (automatically obtaining IP addresses). Below we will look at how to do this using Windows XP and Windows 7 as examples.
Connecting the D-Link DIR-320/NRU router in Windows XP:
Start - Control Panel - Network Connections - Connection via local network— Properties — Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) - further see fig. 4

Connecting the D-Link DIR-320/NRU router in Windows 7:
Start - type View network - select at the top in the search results - View network connections - Local area connection - Properties - Internet Protocol version 4 - then see fig. 5

By default, all D-Links issue IP addresses from the range 192.168.0.1/24 to the internal network. Therefore, after 10-20 seconds, your PC or laptop should itself receive an IP address from the router. It will look something like 192.168.0.101 or 192.168.0.102. In Windows XP, you can track the receipt of an IP address from the router by opening the Local Area Connections status. (see Fig. 6)

The inscription that the network card is assigned DHCP means that the router has successfully issued an internal IP address to the computer via the LAN interface. If this does not happen or an IP address appears like 169.***.***.***, then problems with the operation of the DHCP client on your computer are possible. Most often this can be caused by the operation of firewalls (firewalls), but there are other reasons... In this case, we can advise you to enter the necessary IP addresses in the network card settings manually. To do this, it will be enough to specify the following IP parameters on your PC or laptop:
. IP - 192.168.0.101
. Subnet mask - 255.255.255.0
. Default gateway - 192.168.0.1
. DNS - 192.168.0.1
We will assume that you have connected the router to system unit computer. Let's proceed directly to setting up our router.

Setting up the D-Link DIR-320/NRU router (hardware rev. B1)
We will configure the D-Link DIR-320 via the web interface. To do this, you need to use any computer browser (Opera, Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Chrome) in address bar go to the address: http://192.168.0.1 (usually all D-Links have this address by default). You will see the router's welcome message on your computer screen (see Figure 7)

To log into the D-Link web interface, you will need to enter your username and password, and then click on Login. Default Username is admin, Password is admin. After entering your credentials, you will see a pop-up message from the router (see Fig. 8)

This message forces the DIR-320 to change the default password, which will be used to log into the router in the future. All you have to do is click OK and set a new password in the next window (see Fig. 9)

Here you need to enter a new Password and its Confirmation, after which all that remains is to click on the Save button. Next, the router will prompt you to log in again, but with a new password (see Fig. 10). Well, there is nothing left to do but enter your credentials again...

Enter your Username and Password, then click on Login. Next you will be taken to the main menu of the D-Link DIR-320 (B1) router, where you will see Device Information (see Fig. 11)

This is what the new web interface of D-Link looks like. The author of this manual did not particularly like the interface in terms of appearance and ease of use, but the new firmware has more functionality. Important: now, to save the configuration after any change in settings (!), you must click the Save button in the upper right corner each time.

Firmware update for D-Link DIR-320/NRU router
Now we recommend making sure that the Dir-320/nru router has latest version firmware! For inexperienced users, let us explain: firmware is the internal software of the router. New firmware versions usually fix errors and sometimes add additional functionality. You can find out the current firmware version directly in the main menu (see Fig. 11). You will find the Firmware Version in the Device Information field. In our particular case, we are dealing with version 1.2.94.
Now you need to make sure whether there are any firmware updates available on the manufacturer’s website. To do this, follow the link above to go to ftp server manufacturer and look at firmware updates for DIR-320/NRU (see Fig. 12). We see on the site only one file with the same version that is already installed in our router (judging by the file name). This means that there are no firmware updates available at this time. But we will still download it to our computer and transfer it to the PC from which we are setting up our router to show how you can update the software of your router within the framework of this guide.

In the absence of new versions, in this particular case we will install the same version to show the essence of the flashing process. You will set yourself more new version, as soon as it appears on the manufacturer’s website. We recommend visiting Dlinka's ftp server once every 3 months and checking for updates!
So, let's move on to the procedure for updating the firmware in the D-Link router. This can be done in section System - Software Update (see Fig. 13)

You need to tell the router where the firmware file is located. To do this, click on the Select file button and Windows Explorer get to the file with the firmware for DIR-320/NRU, click on the Open button, and then on Update.
After this, the router will begin updating its firmware; at this moment you just have to wait for the process to complete.
Attention!!! During the next 3 minutes, do not under any circumstances turn off the power to the wireless router or interrupt the flashing process with any other actions!
In the process of updating software You will see an operation progress indicator on the screen (see Fig. 14)

After a while the router will flood new firmware into its depths, will reboot and offer to re-authorize (see Fig. 10). Please note that after flashing the router, it will reset all its previous settings. Enter your login and password (admin and admin), then click on Login again. The router will again ask you to change the default password, but we have already gone through all this in Fig. 8-10.
If everything happened as described above, then you can accept our congratulations - you have successfully updated the firmware of your D-Link DIR-320/NRU! If the router did not display the authorization window, and repeated attempts to access 192.168.0.1 5 minutes after the start of the firmware update did not bring success, then an emergency most likely happened to the router. Restart it through a power interruption and if there is no response, contact service center manufacturer!
Now it’s time to make sure that the router is updated with the firmware that we uploaded to it. This information will be indicated in the main menu of the D-Link DIR-320/NRU (see Fig. 15)

Here we see that version 1.2.94 is installed with a build time of August 3, 2011. Before this, we had the build dated May 13, 2011 (see Fig. 11). The firmware update is complete, now let's move on to the actual setup of our D-Link DIR-320/NRU.

Setting up an Internet connection in D-Link DIR-320/NRU
Now it's time to configure the router's connection to the Internet provider. In D-Link DIR-320 NRU, this can be done in Connections - WAN (see Fig. 16)

As we already warned above, in this guide we will show how to configure the D-Link DIR-320 NRU router using the DHCP and PPTP VPN protocols. If you have access to the Internet using a different protocol, then you will need to contact technical support for clarification on the setup.

First, we will configure the DIR-320 NRU in DHCP mode
To do this, you need to click on the WAN interface line (Fig. 16), then its window will open in front of you detailed settings called Network/Connections (see Fig. 17)

In DHCP mode (automatically obtaining IP parameters from the provider), there are no special difficulties with setting up D-Link DIR-320/NRU should not occur. To do this, in the Connection type field, you must leave the option in the IPoE position.
In the MAC field you can enter your value for the physical address of the router (via the WAN interface). This can be very useful when the provider has implemented the binding of the MAC address to the IP address of clients on the network. Since every network device has its own unique MAC address, this option allows you to avoid calls to the provider when replacing network equipment connected over the last mile (for example, replacing equipment from a network card to a router). You can set a MAC address in the router that is identical to the MAC address of your computer on which you were working before installing the router. If you want to use a router with a “non-native” MAC address in the provider’s network, then fill out this option. If you want to register the MAC address of the router, you will have to call your provider and tell him the MAC address, which can be found on the bottom of the router (six pairs of alphanumeric letters).
Next, leave the checkboxes on Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain a DNS server address automatically. This will force the router to automatically pick up settings from the ISP's DHCP server.
We won’t change any more options here; in DHCP mode everything will work as is 😉
All that remains is to click on the Save button.
And then don’t forget to click on the Save button in the next window in Fig. 18 so that after a reboot the router does not “forget” the settings.

Now is the time to check the functionality of the settings. This can be done in Status - Network Statistics (see Fig. 19)

Here in the WAN field you can see information that the router’s DHCP client successfully received the necessary IP parameters from the provider. In fact, you can already work on the Internet from a computer that is connected to the LAN interface of the DIR-320/NRU router.

Now let's configure the DIR-320 NRU router in PPTP VPN mode
The VPN protocol is often used by residential providers to provide Internet access. Configuring the D-Link DIR-320 NRU router in PPTP mode is performed in the already familiar section Connections (see Fig. 20). To connect via PPTP or L2TP, you need to create a new interface here. (Note: first, we still need to configure the router to work via the WAN interface with the ipoe connection type. If your provider does not implement a DHCP scheme on the local network, then you will probably have to first configure the ipoe WAN in Static IP mode).

In this menu we will need to create another interface for connecting via PPTP. To do this, you need to click on the Add button, after which a menu for setting up a new interface will open on the screen (see Fig. 21).

To configure the router to work over a VPN connection, you need to set the Connection type option to PPTP. (Note: if your ISP provides L2TP access, then this protocol selected in the same menu).
Next, let's look at the remaining necessary options for configuring the DIR-320/NRU in PPTP mode [top-to-bottom]:
wanPPTPSNameType - allows you to specify the method for specifying the address VPN servers: as a domain name or as an IP address. If the provider recommends setting the server address in the form of a domain name, then select the URL option; if in the form of an IP address, then select the IP option. (Tip: look at your contract with your provider and find how it is recommended to indicate the VPN server address there. You can also contact technical support for clarification);
Server address - the VPN server address mentioned above is indicated here. Either as a domain name or as an IP - depending on the wanPPTPSNameType option;
PPP Username - in this option, enter the login for authorization with the VPN server. You can find it in your agreement with your provider.
Password is the password for connecting to the provider’s VPN server (see your contract).
Password confirmation - here you will need to re-enter the password for authentication on the VPN server to avoid typing errors;
Encryption - here you can activate encryption of data transmitted via VPN. Typically, providers do not use VPN tunnel encryption, so we leave the option - No encryption.
Authentication algorithm - here you can select the type of authentication that the provider’s VPN server supports. Behind additional information You can contact technical support. But you can also select the AUTO option, then the router itself will try to select a compatible authentication option.
You don't have to touch any other options in this menu. After clicking the Save button, the tunnel to the provider’s VPN server should be successfully installed.

You can check whether the VPN session is up in the Connections menu (see Fig. 22). In order for traffic to go through the VPN tunnel, be sure to check the Default Gateway label next to the PPTP connection and save the settings using the button in the upper right corner!

The inscription that the PPTP type is in the Connected state indicates successful actions on your part. If the Connected inscription does not appear, then somewhere in the previous stages a mistake was made...

Configuring routing for access to local resources
The next step when configuring D-Link routers in PPTP VPN mode is usually filling out the routing table. This procedure is necessary for simultaneous access to local resources of the provider’s network with an established VPN connection. Actually, if you are not very interested in local resources, then you can skip this stage. For those who plan to use local services such as FTP or DC++ in the future, they will have to configure routing. You can do this in DIR-320/NRU in the Additional - Routing section (see Fig. 23)

This menu is a table for entering static routes. You can find out the static routes that are needed in your specific case in technical support your provider.
To create a new local route in D-Link DIR-320/NRU you need to click on the Add button, then a window will appear for creating a new routing rule (see Fig. 24).

Here, in the Destination network field, you should specify the destination area of this route.
In the Destination network mask field, specify the subnet mask for the specific route.
In the Gateway field, you should indicate the address of your local gateway (you can find it out from your contract or you could see it in the state of the local network connection on the computer that was connected to the provider’s cable before installing the router).
You can put one in the Metrics field. This value specifies the priority for this particular routing rule.
In the Through interface field, you can leave the option, then the D-Link DIR-320/NRU router will determine on which interface it is more appropriate to use this route.
To create a rule, all you have to do is click the Save button.
In this simple way, you should enter all the necessary rules into the routing table. As a result, local traffic will go exactly in the directions that you specified in your rules.
You can see in Fig. 25 (just don’t forget that the local gateway address is individual in each case!

After entering all the necessary routes, all that remains is to save the router parameters by clicking the Save button. At this point, the routing setup in the D-Link DIR-320/NRU router can be considered complete.
Settings Wi-Fi connections in D-Link DIR-320/NRU
The D-Link DIR-320/NRU router, unlike its predecessor DIR-320, supports more speed standard Wi-Fi connection, which allows you to transfer data over a wireless network at speeds of up to 150 Mbit/s when using appropriate Wi-Fi equipment with client side(adapter will do!!!D-Link DWA-140!!!). Wireless setup Wi-Fi networks in the new D-Link's DIR series is carried out in the Wi-Fi section - General settings(see Fig. 26)

Here you can completely turn off the Wi-Fi module in your router. The router will then change from wireless to wired. Next we will go to the Basic settings item, where you can set the name of the network and select the standard wireless communication(see Fig. 27):

Hide access point - disables the broadcast of the network identifier (SSID), this allows you to hide your network from devices running Windows OS, acting as a security tool. However, in this case you will have to create a profile to connect to the wireless network manually.
SSID - name of the wireless network (network identifier). Under this name the network will be visible in wireless Wi-Fi clients.
Country - all Russians can leave the Russian Federation option.
Channel - forced selection of a channel for wireless communication. We do not recommend dealing with channel number 6, since most Wi-Fi equipment operates on this channel by default (few users change it). Ideally, we recommend choosing channel 1 or channel 12 to minimize the likelihood of interference with neighboring networks.
Wireless Mode - Here you can select 802.11g or 802.11n wireless mode, or maybe even the legacy 802.11b or a combination of both. In mixed operating mode (802.11 B/G/N mixed), keep in mind that the overall network speed when connecting diverse clients will drop to the level of the slowest client.
Just below you can set the Maximum number of clients that will connect to the router.
Next, you just have to click on Change and you can proceed to setting up encryption on the network.
Wireless network encryption is configured in Security Settings (see Figure 28)

In the Network Authentication option, you can select an encryption algorithm for the wireless network. We recommend choosing the most universal option WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK mixed - this will ensure support for most modern Wi-Fi equipment.
In the PSK encryption key field, you set the password for your wireless Wi-Fi network. We recommend using a password here that is 8 to 10 characters long, consisting of uppercase and lowercase letters, special characters and numbers. This minimizes the likelihood of password guessing by attackers.
In the WPA encryption option, you can select the algorithm for WPA encryption. TKIP is a less secure option than AES, but some wireless clients may not work with AES. We recommend setting the TKIP+AES option, then you will ensure compatibility with most Wi-Fi clients.
The WPA key renewal period can be left as default.
Next, all you have to do is click on the Change button.
I would like to say a few more words about one more option in Additional settings wireless network (see Figure 29)

Here the TX power option is responsible for the radiation of the wireless antenna. You can experimentally lower it to a level where it will be enough to cover an apartment/room, and the network will not look much outside the apartment. This will reduce the likelihood of your wireless network being hacked by your hacker neighbors :) And it will have a positive effect on your health, especially if you quit smoking 😉
This is the setting wireless wifi networks in D-Link DIR-320/NRU can be considered complete. To use Wi-Fi at home, the manipulations discussed above will be sufficient for you.
Now you can turn on your laptop and connect it to the Wi-Fi network.

Port forwarding for DC and torrent in D-Link DIR-320 NRU
Setting up port forwarding (port forwarding or Port Forwarding) must be done if you plan to use home network programs and devices that require unsolicited access to them from the provider’s local network or the external Internet. For example, this may be required when accessing a home IP VEB camera or when working with file-sharing services such as torrent or DC++. The principle of port forwarding is as follows: You independently tell the DIR-320/NRU router what type of unsolicited traffic from outside the router should be forwarded to a specific IP address of the home network.
Let's look at port forwarding in the D-Link DIR-320 NRU for DC and Utorrent:
You can configure Port Forwarding in the D-Link router in Firewall - Virtual Servers (see Fig. 30). New rules are created after clicking the Add button.

In this menu of the Dlink router you can create the necessary rules for port forwarding. Moreover, these rules can be created both on the basis ready-made templates, and for certain traffic.

Let's look below at how to forward ports in the D-Link DIR-320NRU router for the DC++ file sharing program (see Fig. 31):

In the DC connection settings, you will need to activate the Firewall connection mode with manual port forwarding. To share files within the provider’s network, in the External / WAN IP field, enter the intranet IP address that is issued to you by the provider under the contract. If you intend to work with DC++ on the external Internet, then in the External / WAN IP field you will need to enter your dedicated / external IP address (for more than detailed information contact your provider).
In the Ports: TCP and UDP field, you need to enter the values of the ports on which you plan further operation of your DC client. We recommend that you select port values that are easy to remember, but that are not occupied by the system.
Then we will return to the port forwarding menu in our D-Link DIR-320nru (see Fig. 30), click on the Add button to create a new rule (see Fig. 32):

Since our redirect rule does not fall under any template, we leave the Custom option.
Next, in the Name field, we indicate the name of our first forwarding rule (invent it as you wish).
Leave the Interface option in the WAN position.
In the Protocol field, set the TCP/UDP option, since the DC client uses both types of traffic. In all lines with ports we will indicate the same value - 11111, which corresponds to the value of the ports in our DC client. Let’s explain a little here - the router according to this rule transfers TCP and UDP traffic from an external port to an internal one. The router’s capabilities allow you to forward several ports at once in one rule (for example, from 11111 to 11115), but in our case this is not required, so the start and end ports in our example are the same.
In the Internal IP field, you must specify the value of the internal IP address of the computer on your local network to which the router needs to redirect traffic. You can find out the internal IP address in the local network connection state on this computer (see Fig. 6). Its value must exactly match the value in our router's port forwarding rule.
Next, click on Edit, after which the router saves the rule in its memory.
Now let's look at port forwarding for Utorrent in the D-Link DIR-320/NRU. Let's open the Utorrent settings for connection parameters and put them in the following form (see Fig. 33):

Routers under the D-Link brand are among the most popular in Russia. Their main advantages are low price, reliability, and provision of sufficiently high speed Internet access.

Routers of the D-Link DIR series have become especially popular in the Russian Federation: 620, 2640U, 320, 615, 300, equipped with a Wi-Fi module.

To do this, you need to enter the “Control Panel” of the Windows operating system, then select “Network Connections”. Then we find the network card (or select the one that is used to connect to the Internet), right-click and select “Properties”. Next, left-click on the “TCP/IP Protocol” item. Select “Properties”. We set the settings to “automatic” in all points.

The next step is to connect the PC’s network card and one of the free ports of the router using an Ethernet cable (this type of cable is typical when connecting to the Internet via a network card).

Next, open the window of any browser, for example, Internet Explorer, Opera or Google Chrome - it doesn’t matter, the functionality of the required interface does not depend on the type of program used.

Most modern Russian providers do not require that this setting of the D-Link router be adjusted in any way.

In order to use the device’s wireless module, you must again select the “Network” tab, then “Wi-Fi”.

Note that setting up Wi-Fi, the main nuances of which we noted, is generally carried out according to the same principles when working with other routers of the series in question.

The values of both VPI and VCI can thus vary not only between different cities, but also between areas of the same locality. After the user has entered the necessary settings, you can click Next.

On the page that opens, you should select the correct type of network protocol, also after consulting with your provider.

The first steps in working with this device will be the same as in the case of previous devices - we set up the automatic acquisition of a DNS address and IP through the “Control Panel” of the Windows operating system.

First steps - as usual, connect the wires, set the Windows settings to automatically obtain a DNS address and IP.

There we select the desired connection type (usually PPPoE).

Enter the desired wireless network name and configure security. As in previous cases, select the WPA2-PSK encryption standard and enter the password. Click “Change”. Then select “System”, then “Save”. As we noted above, setting up the D-Link 300 router is performed using almost the same algorithms. This device and the D-Link 320 are actually devices from the same line.

Setting up a D-Link 615 modem

Let's look at how to configure the D-Link 615 router. First, we do everything as when working with previous modems: we connect the wires, set up automatic acquisition of the DNS address and IP in the Windows interfaces.

To do this, you need to press the SETUP button in the start menu of the device control panel.

If we have at our disposal a router manufactured by D-Link, the configuration of this device, as a rule, is performed within the framework of very simple algorithms, which are generally similar for all device models. What features can be highlighted regarding the configuration of the types of devices we have considered?

First of all, we note that information from the provider will be no less useful for us, along with knowledge of the router configuration algorithm - and this is the main feature of working with devices. Step-by-step setup of a D-Link router in any modification requires the appropriate data.

Therefore, if, for example, in the process of restoring working options, the user sets a new Wi-Fi password, then he may need to tell it to people who used the network before, knowing only the previous one. Also, if, for example, devices such as a TV with Smart TV support or a set-top box were connected to the device via Wi-Fi, then the corresponding settings in them will also need to be updated if the password is set in the router.

Saving settings

The devices in the series under consideration have a useful function for saving settings (with the possibility of later restoring them in case of failures). To do this, you need to set the correct settings via the router management web interface and make sure that the Internet works with them. You can then save these settings. To do this, in the main menu of the router control panel, select the TOOLS button, then SYSTEM. To save the settings to a file on your computer's disk, click Save Configuration and then select the desired location in the file system.

That is, if, for example, some important file is downloaded from the Internet, and a loss of connection is undesirable, it is better not to change the router settings, but to wait until the necessary information is downloaded. Also, it may turn out that some other person is connected to the network via Wi-Fi, and a forced Internet shutdown may also be undesirable for him. Therefore, we wait until the router is free from use, and only after that we make the necessary adjustments in the settings.

The question of how to connect the D-Link DIR-300 router interests thousands of users, and this is no coincidence - after all, it has rightfully earned the title of the most popular wifi router on Russian market. This is explained not only by its affordable price and easy setup, but also by the fact that many providers have rented and continue to rent it to their clients as the main connection device. Therefore, even several years after its release, it remains one of the most popular routers and is still sold in various modifications. And today we will learn how to connect and configure the D-Link DIR-300 router and its twin brother with USB port- Dir-300 NRU.

How to connect a D-Link DIR-300 router to a computer?

By and large, connecting D-Link routers is no different from models from other manufacturers that we have already reviewed in other articles. But the difficulty is that the interface of the administrator section of different routers differs greatly depending on the company and firmware version, which can cause difficulties for novice users.

These instructions for connecting and configuring the D-Link DIR-300 router are universal for all models with firmware revision B6 and B7.

In total we will need to take three steps

  1. Connect the D-Link DIR-300 router to your computer
  2. Set up an Internet connection
  3. Set up WiFi and set a password for D-Link

First, let's do the most standard steps that are necessary to configure the router out of the box.

  • We connect the router to an electrical outlet and turn it on.
  • Next, insert the patch cord into the LAN connector and connect it to the computer’s network card.
  • Insert the Internet cable from the provider, which was previously inserted into the network connector of the PC, into the “Internet” socket

Now let’s go to the section on the computer that is located in the chain: “Start - Control Panel - Network and Internet - Network and Sharing Center shared access- Change adapter settings"

Here we find “Local Area Connection” - this is the setting of the computer’s network card. Click on it right click mouse and go to the “Properties” menu. If there are any settings from the provider here, then we write them off and save them. Then we set the computer to automatically obtain an IP address and DNS servers.

How to configure the D-Link DIR-300 router?

After that, launch the browser and enter it in the address bar in order to get to the router’s web interface.

When we first log in, we will be asked to enter a login-password pair - by default “admin/admin”. This is standard data not only when connecting to a D-Link Dir router, but also for the vast majority of other models.

Internet connection and WiFi on the D-Link DIR-300 router

We get to the main page personal account D-Link. We need to open the “Advanced Settings” section - the link to it is in the lower right corner.

Here, first, we will configure the connection of the D-Link router to the Internet. Open the “Network” tab, “WAN” section. We select our connection type - it is specified in the contract with the provider, find it and look at it, or find out from technical support. After this, we enter all the data provided in the contract and required for the connection.

My type is PPPoE, which only requires a login and password for authorization. We leave the remaining fields by default unless the provider requires otherwise.

Next, setting up the D-Link DIR-300 router continues by entering data for the local wireless network, that is, for those computers that will access the Internet through it. First of all, let's make sure that WiFi is turned on - you can do this either directly on home page admin panel in the “WiFi” block - just switch the slider.

Or go to “Basic Settings” and activate the “Enable Wireless” checkbox.
